I should have written this up months ago, but better late than never... Last Christmas season, I had a photograph and store bought frame and matte as I was planning on a DIY photo for my Dad. I then learned that I would need a custom matte cut for the photo's size and was pressed for time. I called up Framer vs Framer and talked to Lori. She said "Sure, come on in!" Even though it was past her closing time and she was swamped with orders. I arrived and moments later she had a perfectly cut matte for me. She also saw that my frame could easily be improved, and offered up a wire hanger with a new backing and attachments, moments later the photo was looking great and ready for wrapping! This year my mother passed away. Receiving the beloved heirlooms from her home was bittersweet. I love the pretty things that have been handed down for generations, but losing my mother was a high price to pay. Upon receipt, a couple of the items had been damaged in shipping. I took two of them to Framer vs Framer. A marriage certificate of my fifth-greatgrandparents. My grandmother's college degree and honor roll pin. These are priceless treasures and I am honored to now call them my own. When I turned the items in, I was given a date four weeks later. That felt like an eternity, but for what I wanted it was reasonable. The desk person told me they were quite backed up, and I understood and agreed. After four weeks had passed, I telephoned to ask if my items were ready for pickup. No, they are running behind. They will call me. Alright, I don't like it, but I will wait. These things happen. Lots of people are short staffed these days. I get it. Another four weeks goes by and again I telephone. This time I spoke to a different person who was very rude to me. She told me "WE will call YOU when it's ready. We have people who have been waiting for their orders since June." [It is now December 16 and I turned in my order October 20] If that is true, why didn't you tell me that when I turned in my order? At least it would have been honest. I can deal with late but honest. The employee continued, "We don't even have your frames in yet. We ordered them, but they haven't come in." Oh, alright. Lots of people are experiencing a supply chain issue. I don't like her attitude, but whatever. Interestingly, I received a phone call from the company about two hours later, telling me my order was ready. Wow. Really? Maybe there's a miscommunication amongst staff, but the way that woman spoke to me was unacceptable. The work is fine as far as I can tell, but I will never ever return or recommend Framer vs Framer. This is unfortunate. I regularly choose small businesses over big box stores. I could have taken my money to anybody. I've used them before and had satisfactory results. I would have been disappointed if the order had taken another four weeks, but I'm a reasonable person if the clerks are at least courteous. I think most folks are. read more

UPDATE: The owner left me a long voicemail berating me for writing a "very, very, very, very hurtful review." She also said that instead of writing a review, I should have called her and talked with her. First, the review was 100% factual, and you can see in her response that she did not dispute any facts. Second, I find it ironic that the point of my review is that she never communicated with me during the process. She never called to me there was a delay with the frame I selected and paid for. She never called me when they were 2 weeks over the estimated completion date. She never called me to tell me that the frame I selected and paid for was unavailable because the vendor went bankrupt and a new frame needed to be used. Even when I called to get a status update and later when they called a week later to tell me it was done, nothing was mentioned. Yet, she berated me for not calling her to speak to her, rather than writing a review. In addition, from her response, she implies I said she doesn't care. I never said she doesn't care. I said she doesn't communicate, doesn't give status updates, and takes away decisions from the customer. She didn't apologize for any of those things in her Yelp response or the voicemail, so I don't see that she thinks she has to improve or change. read more

I've had a number of things framed here over the years - old movie posters, antique prints, not to mention a cheeky surfer girl lithograph from Hawaii. Lori, the owner, not only has a fantastic eye for how to draw out the best in every piece, she has a good ear for hearing where a customer plans to hang a piece and tailoring her suggestions accordingly. There's a board selection of frames, and work is always ready in a reasonable time frame, and by the date it is promised. There's a bit of downside, of course - it can get spendy to frame an item, even though Lori is good about working with customers and generous with discounts. But that is true of most custom work, and if custom is what you need from a frame, you will get good work here. read more

I had two things framed here a couple years ago and the quality was top-notch. Don't be thrown off by the early 80's signage!

I went in to have a photo postcard framed for a smallish guest bathroom. I told her i was on a budget so she said she woul use scrap wood. The total (remeber this is a postcard) still came to nearly $40! I will not be going back. Michaels in Bellevue uses all new wood does it faster and better and cheaper and with no attitude! read more

Lori is an artist. She did the most spectacular job with three pieces I brought to her. I look forward to having her frame my own art for an exhibit. Coming in here with my young son the owner and her daughter were so kind to him and there are dogs! What's not to love? As far as cost I feel very strongly that you get what you pay for. The owner is so sweet here! I didn't end up buying anything this trip but I will be coming back for framing work in the future. I stopped in this shopping center to go to the bank and saw a sign outside advertising $1 artwork. I saw something and went inside to pay, but only had my debit card. Lori did an outstanding job on both a movie poster and an original art piece. She brought very creative ideas to what I wanted to have and the finished projects are inline with what she designed. I had heard that the overall quality of Michaels framing was not that great and that the work was sent out to Oregon and given the rarity of this print, I wanted to make sure it was done locally. I heard about this shop from a couple of other folks and decided to give them a try. Their selection of frames is overwhelming, but really good. I was able to narrow the search pretty easily and worked with Lori on getting a good match for the frame and mat-- we landed on an Aquamarine/black double mat-- she was a little more into the white, but I decided to go with black to bring more attention into the print vs the mat-- she did a great job with it. It wasn't cheap, but neither is the quality of work. If I need a custom job again, I will certainly go to this shop to get the work done. read more

We recently moved to Kirkland and the glass in one of our larger frames was broken during the move. Before opting to purchase a new frame we called Framer vs Framer to ask how much a new piece of glass would cost. It was less that $20.00 so we decided to go for it. The woman on the phone (the owner) said we could walk in anytime and she would have it ready for us in 20 minutes or less. My husband and I went the same day and she must have expected us because she already had the glass ready and even upgraded us to a better quality of glass (one with UV protection so the pictures didn't get discolored or damaged). While she was getting the glass my husband noticed a "check in on Facebook for a discount" sticker on her counter. It was old and probably there from the previous owners but when my husband asked for the discount anyway she didn't hesitate to give us a percentage off. I can't remember exactly what we paid but it was something like $13.00 which was cheaper than going out and buying a new frame (especially since this one was part of a set). It was a great experience and I'll definitely be going back here for any additional framing needs (well that and to visit with her friendly dogs)! read more
