Ben Franklin is a wonderful and special crafts store. I absolutely love coming here! They have a great selection of items, especially fabric. It is insane how many fabric options there are. It is not even comparable to the other chain stores in the area. They also have a good selection of sewing notions and sewing patterns. And wow they have a ton of puzzles!! It's so fun coming in here and seeing all the great things they have to offer. The lady cutting my fabric was very kind and gave me lots of good recommendations for my sewing project. They have everything my kids have ever needed for the various school projects, be it craft wire, tri-fold board, foam tapes, construction paper, frames, etc. People who work there are some of the nicest and knowledgeable people I've come across at a store. I went to get some pop tape for a project. Not only was I shown the exact place to find it in, but also the one that would work best for my needs. I don't go into a lot of craft stores, but my wife dragged me along last week and I was impressed. The store is nice and bright, well organized, and had plenty of helpful employees. It's definitely a bit pricey, I was expecting it to be cheaper (maybe because we'd just been to the dollar store and a lot of the products seem to be similar), but I would expect the quality is better here. We were very happy with our visit and I recommend this place to anyone looking for crafting supplies. read more

I wanted to dry-mount a print as a gift and Michael in the Frame Dept. was so friendly and personable! He agreed that the dry-mount was a great idea. The print was finished within a couple hours and when I picked it up Michael was so friendly. I've been to this location twice. In addition to every craft hobby tool and supply you could need, you can also take various arts and crafts classes. I signed up for a crochet class that will meet one night for three weeks. The class registration of $56 included class instruction and a manual, plus a 10% off coupon for purchases at the store. A list of just three items (crochet hook and 2 skeins of different colored yarn) was required as a separate purchase, but those totaled to $10. The item list was handed out upon registration. The staff at the facility had great things to say about the instructor and helped me pick out the items I would need for the class. Who knew that there were so many things to learn about yarn and crochet hooks? No worries though, the staff here are very knowledgeable and will get you started without breaking the bank. I've attended my first crochet class. The instructor arrived early, had all of the necessary supplies needed to teach the class, and was very knowledgeable, patient and proficient at teaching crochet techniques. In addition, she offered her contact details and provided information about ways for us to get help and practice outside of class. I was highly impressed and I will definitely return to this location for supplies and future classes. By the way, free parking is available on the side lot. read more

Bad return policy, will never buy there again. I've been a customer for the last 21 years and lately due to covid, I've been buying there almost everyday. For the past twenty one years I've been shopping there and never returned except on one occassion. I was trying to return a rotary cutter, bought less than a month ago, that never worked since the day I bought it. Since, I am a committed person, I tried to make it work, but it never did since day one. The person I spoke to said that I can not return it since it is badly used. I hadn't grabbed a basket and had my hands full as I was looking at small charms, so not even thinking about it, I put them in my pocket until I could find a basket. This man must've been following me around the store since I got there and jumped out of nowhere to accuse me of stealing from them. After attempting to explain the situation, during which this man talked over me and said he wouldn't believe what someone that looks like me had to say about it, I was told that I couldn't purchase my items and needed to leave, and never come back. Guess my scrub privileges at this place got me a long way! The whole interaction was incredibly embarrassing and he literally escorted me out of the store like a stray rat. Been going to the M competitor store near my house for years. It has steadily declined so I made the trip to the Redmond Ben Franklin. The frame department was actually staffed and I was able to get good, reasonably priced services. We finally decided to get a few special art pieces framed, and came here to have it done. Best decision ever. Yes, good framing is expensive. But what makes it so worth it is when the framers are true artists, and really care about making your item look great. If I had said "I just want a plain black frame," they would have done that. But we wanted their input, and it was a real joy working with them on frames that have truly elevated the art within them. I will without a doubt return here when I need something else framed thoughtfully and beautifully. read more

She was very condescending and rude! I went to Ben Franklin for stretching a quilt (that I bought from Asia). The woman who "helped" us was super obnoxious. She asked where it was from and after mentioning that it was from Bangladesh she said interesting and began commenting on how crooked the lines on the quilt were. And how she had to have two more people to get this stretched and yet it wouldn't come out nice. All the while making weird faces. I guess my skin color made things all the more interesting for her. She measured the quilt at least 8/10 different times (it's a 3' by 5' quilt for gods sake!). When I asked if I can get it framed after stretching, she didn't even let me complete my sentence and started throwing framing jargons at me. It took me at least 20mins to get an estimate while it shouldn't take more than 10mins. At last she gave me a hefty 350$ quote and kept saying that it's not the final cost and it could potentially cost me more. No thanks, I'll take my business elsewhere. (I did, and paid 130$ for the same work). I want to give this review a 0 star, but Yelp wouldn't let me! read more

You'd be hard-pressed NOT to find anything you're looking for here for any crafts project. Seriously, they have anything you could ever imagine - and then some. If you sign up for their e-mail communications, you'll get the occasional 40% off coupon, as well as notices to their store-wide events and sales. Note that they often have craft events for kids which are free or really, really cheap. The kids love it. This kind of makes up for their pricey costs on most items, most of the year. Kind of. This is a super place to find gifts for kids, and if you bring yours here, it will really inspire their creativity. My mom is a master knitter who sent me a gorgeous sweater in the mail. It somehow got a tad damaged in transit. The nice ladies at this store, in the knitting department, mended it for free. It took them 5 minutes or so, but I'll never forget how nice that was! I'm not a big fan of Michael's, and the Joann's stores are all falling by the wayside. I'd only go to Ben Franklin for any project needs. read more

Ben Franklin has some interesting items that I haven't seen at other arts and crafts stores. Their bead/charm selection is out of this world. I even bought a bag of charms so that I could turn them into earrings. Their button selection is not bad as well. They carry JHB buttons which I don't see at Jo Ann's or Michael's. read more

Lived in Redmond for the better part of 25 years and I can't think of any other place I would rather go for my crafting needs.

Depending on what your shopping for, this place is TOTALLY worth it. It has alllll the things for arts and crafts, DIYing, and framing. Need fabric? Got it. Paint? Got it. Sparkles? Definitely got it! Invitations? Got it! Faux plants? Got it! Stuff to make your own jewelry? Got that too! And if you like home decor that's one of a kind, this is THE place to make your own. The only down side can be the price tags :( But hey, you can walk across the street to J Mike's and grab a drink if you're bumming on how much you spent at Ben Franklin! Aside from just what the store has to offer product wise, it's a really well put together place. It's large and roomy but Ben Franklin certainly took advantage of the space with all that they have to sell. The staff is also really great! I own a seasonal business during the Summer months and the employees at Ben Franklin always know me by my purse (haha) because it's reflective and they always are sure to say "Hi cool purse girl!", which I always actually kind of appreciate. Aside from some of the prices I have zero complaints, and even with that being said, I would ABSOLUTELY suggest checking the place out if you are into any of these things. read more

I've used the Redmond location for framing for years, and they have always done a very high quality job on my custom orders and patiently work with me as I work through options. Never had any timing or pickup issues. Sadly, we are moving out of the area - and as we were doing so my husband broke the museum glass on an irreplaceable piece of original art 1 day before we leave. I called Ben Franklin and Jason and Michael were lifesavers. They took on my project on an emergency basis, getting their team to replace the glass on extremely short notice (less than an hour turnaround)! AND they took extra time packing it to help protect it on our journey. I'm sad we won't be able to use their services anymore, but you should! This craft store knows how to market to their clientele! Items were easy to find and the displays are updated with current crafting trends. Also, anytime I've asked for help finding an obscure tool, they always know where to direct me. A large portion of the store is dedicated to scrapbooking, so if that's your thing, you'll love this place. There's also a section for beading, knitting, school projects (dioramas and science kits) and a large selection of detailed coloring books (themes like Sherlock, GoT, Harry Potter). Sometimes they have tent sales (...you'll be able to tell by the large tents in front) and clearance item stands throughout the store. On a recent trip to Barcelona I found a couple of great water paintings that I needed framed. The problem was we were going to be doing a housewarming about 10 days after I stopped in at Ben Franklin, and we really wanted to be able to show off these pieces. I wish I could remember the name of the woman who assisted me in the framing department. She started with the stock frames first to see if there was a good match. We quickly agreed we needed a custom frame. First sample she grabbed was the absolute perfect match. And - they were ready in time for the housewarming. And they look absolutely amazing! Poor return policy! I bought a pair of Seahawks-colored earrings. Super cute, but after wearing them for one hour one of them fell open and 2 out of 3 beads got lost. The clasp was defective. I tried to return them (they were $10.00 and I had the receipt). They refused to give me a refund. It probably cost them a dollar to make. I had spent over $40 on that visit and was prepared to purchase more goods on this visit. I'm VERY disappointed in Ben Franklin. I will take my business elsewhere. read more

I wondered into the bead section for the first time the other day, and found some perfect charms for a art project I am doing: -Shark -Music theme -Chef hat -Even Marylin Monroe Each time I leave BF I feel inspired to attempt to make something new. If it's crafty, and you need it, Ben Franklin probably has it: departments for scrapbooking, stamping, beads, floral, framing, quilting, yarn, and on and on. The selections are generally quite good and well chosen, not simply the mass market brands. When I scrap booked, I loved Ben Franklin for the excellent quality papers and glues - you couldn't go wrong. The yarn department is less thrilling, though it has a decent array of basics (a wall of cascade 220) and all the tools you might need, but they allocate a lot of space to lower quality yarns and the department lacks the oomph of the local yarn shop. Points, though, for having the good old metal crochet hooks instead of the fancy wood hooks that don't work as well. There are lots of ideas on display and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. I wish they would update the store one of these days: it feels old and could use some updating and expanding. The checkout lines in particular are poorly laid out - it's a bit confusing where to line up, and not a lot of room when the store is busy. In spite of the shortcoming, it's a better than average all-purpose craft shop. read more

My new favorite craft store! I live in Renton and so it is a bit of a drive for me but so worth it because the craft stores nearby are not anything like Ben Franklin! There is a HUGE bead section and throughout the whole store they have craft ideas with info on how to make it and set up in a display that involves everything you would need to buy for it. This is so helpful! On top of all this, the employees are super friendly and answer all my questions! They also have tons of classes available with a great schedule list. I love this place!! It's not as large and overwhelming as some other craft stores but they have plenty of people to help you with whatever you are working on. They also always have a lot of project ideas with how to guides. The staff is always very eager and willing to help you find what you need or give ideas, which is wonderful for someone like me who needs it! This is the best Ben Franklin store I have ever been in. Ever! They have an awesome yarn collection. Not just Box Store acrylic stuff but Noro and Cascade as well. At least four aisles packed with lovely yarns in a variety of fibers. Yummy! A wall of knitting and crochet needles and accessories! Storage cases! Happiness! In addition to classes, they also have folks who meet here to just hang out and chat while working on their projects. That's cool :) Their bead section isn't a couple of packs of pony beads (as useful as those are), but an entire section of glass, crystal, gemstone and novelty beads. Beads by the string as well as ones sold individually in little cubbies....it's wonderful, and I don't know how to do anything with beads except extract them from the nose of a curious 3-year-old boy. While this might be annoying to some, it was cool to have clerks that asked if I needed assistance finding something whenever they came across me standing in an aisle, dazed. Even if you don't make things yourself, this is a very nifty place to walk around for a while just to feel crafty. Try it, it works! read more
