You can do it yourself right there or leave it and they'll do it for you. Great work and reasonably priced. They also have great art supplies, cards, and gifts. read more

They have great art supplies, coloring supplies, candles, pens, stickers anything you can imagine related to art or gifts. I even compared some of the prices for gift items to Amazon and they were similar in price if not the same. Usually in small on businesses like these everything cost quite a bit more. I come here every holiday to buy a card to send and usually end up picking up some knickknacks as well. read more

This has always been one of my favorite stores in West Seattle! They have such a fun assortment of gifts, as well as a great selection of art supplies and frames. It's a good place to get candles, greeting cards, Christmas ornaments, stickers, journals, books and all sorts of other fun things. In March I took in a large collaged photography piece to get a custom frame. It was easy to talk through and get advise on the most budget-conscious options. I was very happy when I picked up the final product. A few months later, one of the screws holding the wire in the back of the frame randomly pulled loose and the frame fell. The frame itself didn't look damaged and, being such a large piece and a bit of a long drive to the shop, I just screwed the wire back into a different spot and rehung it. A few months after that, the screw pulled out again and the frame fell, this time causing the bottom edge to start coming away from the frame. I brought it back into the shop and they agreed to reframe the piece with no additional charge. When I came to pick up the reframed piece, two of the pictures in the collage had glaring orange smudges. The photos were all black and white, so it was very obvious. When I pointed it out, multiple employees told me that it had been there when I brought it in and they thought it was part of the picture. I was shocked and frustrated by the gaslighting of being told the pictures in this piece that I had created ten years ago (but only recently gotten framed) and looked at every day had always been this way. They suggested it looked like a reflection or a campfire. No. I came back a few days later to talk with the manager. Luckily, when I first brought the framed piece home in March, I proudly took a picture and posted it on Facebook. I was able to see that the portion with orange smudges had NOT been there originally. When starting the conversation with the manager, she told me the smudges looked like part of the picture. I showed her the photo I had taken of the original framing and she was understandably baffled. She told me that nothing they do at the shop would cause this to happen. I couldn't explain it either, but this was not the condition of my art work when I brought it in. I ended up having to go to one of the only shops in Seattle that still print black and white film (Moonphoto in Ballard) and have the two pictures with smudges reprinted. When I emailed the manager and explained the cost as well as the many many extra trips I had to make to the shop in West Seattle from my home in Kent (because I thought this was a reputable place to go), she offered to refund me the cost of the reprinted pictures. She also, again, told me that their shop had not damaged the original pictures. Even after photo proof that my art piece didn't look like that before. I was livid, hence this long review. I took the new prints in and they replaced the damaged ones. The new prints don't really match (because the original place I went to develop them ten years ago isn't in business anymore) and were glued to the top instead of layered in like they had been originally. I couldn't argue anymore and didn't trust them to make it right anyway, so I took it home. It's the kind of thing where other people may or may not notice, but I will always see it and it will be a constant reminder of this experience. Trips from Kent to West Seattle because of damage to the frame and photos that were not my fault: 4 extra trips, 38 miles round trip, 152 miles traveled and 4+ hours of my time. Trips from Kent to Ballard for reprinting the photos: 2 trips, 54 miles round trip, 108 miles traveled and 2+ hours of my time. Plus, if it falls off the wall again, I can't take it back to this place because I'm afraid they will ruin more of the photos. So I will have to pay out of pocket somewhere else. I love the shop, but I will never get something framed here again. My personal one of a kind art piece is messed up now. I will have to make a whole new one for it to be right. And they never took responsibility for what happened because they couldn't explain it, even though I had photo evidence of the original. Edit in response to the owner: There is picture evidence here of the original in March - no spots. When I brought it back to your shop, it was exactly the same, paper still glued to the back. The fact that you and your staff are trying to gaslight me into believing those spots were already there just because you can't explain what happened is intensely frustrating. After ten years of hanging unframed, those spots didn't just appear out of nowhere in the last seven months since being framed. The piece was in good condition when I dropped it off and something happened while in your care. I realize it wasn't intentional and no one knows exactly what happened, but that doesn't mean it isn't your responsibility. read more

They do carry a great selection of frames, from traditional, classic to eclectic options. Be aware it is expensive to have framing done and I did not choose the least expensive frame styles. They do beautiful work and we are pleased with the results. I can't speak to anything about the rest of the store, but their framing department is great. read more

This place is super fun. There is a ton of small gifts and books! It's not just art and framing supplies actually! If you need small gifts for someone this is a nice place to visit. They have stuff like pouches, candles, novelty socks etc. It's almost like a variety store? They also sell stationery and paper stock and you can even buy individual colored envelopes. This lovely store is a framing, gift and art store. Just wandering around is fun with lots of items to look at. We visited recently to find a frame and mat for an old, family drawing. We browsed through the mats and frames leisurely to find what we wanted. Daniel offered his assistance but did not interfere. We eventually asked him for an opinion, and he made a couple suggestions. His idea worked perfectly and it looks just right in our home. On the way out, we bought a birthday card from the wide selection of unique cards along with a small gift. Before writing here I attempted to address my concern with a staff member. I was flat out dismissed. I'd like the owner and staff to take steps to understand that what happened to me is a micro-aggression (I implore you to do your research on this term if it's new to you) and like all micro-aggressions may seem casual but are part of the constant messaging I and other black and brown people receive that we don't belong in this predominately white neighborhood. It takes a toll. I believe this is how the business can continue to, "... value ALL of [their] customers and have a great reputation in [their] community for doing so." I live a block or two away from this shop. I have always wanted to come in and yesterday I finally went in for the first time ever and I was sooo happy with their products! Their many social justice oriented products made me feel like I was back in college. As I was shopping I felt like I was being watched throughout the store. As a brown woman, this isn't something new but it's annoying every time. I decided to end my trip short and started heading towards the front to pay. As I was going to the front of the store I saw their stuffed animal section. I have many nephews so anytime I am at a store I always love to check out what they have. A stuffed octopus caught my eye, and I grabbed it to better look at it before purchasing it for my nephew. While I was there a staff member (a tall bigger built white woman with short hair) started helping a customer ( a small petite white woman) look for a gift. The customer asked if they had any turtles and the staff member said yes and grabbed the octopus that I LITERALLY had in my hands, so that she could show the shopper the stuffed turtles underneath it. I was in shock. The staff member did not even LOOK in my direction to acknowledge me! I stood there, as I continued to be ignored, waiting because I STILL planned to PURCHASE this octopus for my nephew. Then, this staff member PUT THE ITEM ON THE TOP SHELF WHERE I WAS UNABLE TO REACH IT. Then she left, as though I wasn't there at all. I was so angry I decided to pay for my item (a Tupac card) and leave! While being rung up I kept debating with myself whether or not to mention anything. The incident felt more than coincidental, but I also didn't want to be THAT person. As the cashier checked me out I built up the courage to share what I experienced to bring attention to this unacceptable customer service. I told her how this was my first time being here and I was really excited and I loved all their products but I was really disappointed by her coworker and SHE LAUGHED!! There was NO apology. NO acknowledgment. NO questions to ask WHICH coworker it was. Nothing. This young lady clearly did not care and thought it was funny. I am very disappointed in this store and it's employees. What makes me most disappointed is that THEY SELL SOCIAL JUSTICE PRODUCTS to somehow show that they are "woke". They LITERALLY have stickers that say "racism sucks" or something around those lines, WHILE having employees like this. I hope the owner takes time during this BLM movement to educated it's employees on micro aggressions. read more

I stopped in for some journals and painting supplies - I wasn't sure what to expect but it was a nice shop with reasonable prices, laid out and organized well (I have a broken ankle so that matters to me), and parking in the back, albeit a paid lot. I miss stores like these- art stores that also have fun impulse buys and random cool stuff. Tons of selection including things for kids and school. Lots of serious artist stuff too. Prepare to pay a slight premium for having everything under the same roof, the toy store across the street has some of the same items for a little less. I spend at least $500/year, likely more, at this place because it's convenient. Not because it's anything special. Today I needed to use the restroom while shopping and was told I had to use another business, despite my desperate need. I was refused three times, and told to "go to Chipotle", which was not even open. This policy, of sending customers to other businesses because they don't want to allow restroom use is unacceptable. As much as I want to support local business, this policy will send me to Target and other big box stores and online shopping. read more

Don't be fooled by the name of this store. A little less than half of it is related to the store name while the rest may be called Weird & Witty Stuff Artists Like. This is a really great art supply store if you paint or make cards. There is a decent selection of professional paints, brushes, canvases, and painting instruction books. There is a small assortment of beautiful, handmade papers in vibrant colors. The rest of their art supplies are kits for children to make jewelry and the like, a couple Buddha boards, some ink & pencil. They do custom framing, but I haven't used that service with them. They offer some art for sale in a very limited supply that look like they are multiple copies in the beach, local or tourist themes, with nothing original. The other side of the store, and still part of the art selection side, is a shop that isn't art or framing related but rather delves into a retail space for the artist type. It includes odd & interesting non-fiction books like photography of small toys and humor telling one how to be a man, journals & calendars featuring Star Wars and birds, lovely cards with barbed statements, magnets featuring pics of '60's housewives asking for another drink, and socks in bright, cheerful colors & patterns with antagonistic sayings. They also have a shelf where they sell goods from Archie McPhee. In the front of the store, they have it stocked right now with traditional Christmas goods such as candles, party poppers and linens. I thoroughly enjoy visiting NW. I buy art supplies here, books that are in my humor zone, and a stellar, glittery wall calendar with birds & gardens for a gift. I know I'll be back. The parking in the area is terrible. There's street parking but it's always full. There are pay lots nearby. read more

I have visited this store many times but after my last visit I will no longer return. During the current circumstances everyone had to stand in a long line to enter the store. I found what I was looking for and stood in another long line to pay and to find out they couldn't break a $100 bill. This is on a busy Saturday afternoon and during the Holidays. I was very annoyed of the fact. I couldn't make my purchase and had to get change and return to two long lines. I would expect an expensive store in the middle of the West Seattle Junction to be more accomadating. read more

Whenever I'm in need of a special gift for a special someone, I come here. They have a number of themed display stands with a focus on a range of items including unicorns, wine, cats, children, holidays, etc. Plus you'll find cards and wrap to finish off your gift. After trying for literally months to find a specific type of shadow box and having no luck at Aaron Brothers, Michael's, and other similar stores, I found this place on Yelp. I made the trek to West Seattle from my south-end home and was delighted by the huge variety of stuff -- from paints and canvas to all variety of art supplies and, yes, my much-sought shadow box. I thought the price was a little high but, heck, they HAD what I wanted. It can be difficult to find parking on California Avenue but there's a complimentary lot (3 hours maximum) behind the store, and a back door that faces the parking lot. Why only three stars? As other Yelpers have mentioned service can be, well, surly. The cashier chatted pleasantly with the fellow ahead of me and even dug around to find him a discount coupon for his purchase - which was well over $100 - so I was quite surprised when I reached the register and got the cold shoulder. Maybe it's because I was spending less than $20, maybe it's because I'm not a regular, but there's really no excuse. I'll probably go back, but only when I need that special item I can't find anywhere else. It's too bad. If I'd been shown a little courtesy, I might have made Northwest Art & Frame my first stop instead of my last. read more

It's extremely expensive and racist. I've been kicked out of the store twice by employees because of being accused of shop lifting. I was followed by multiple employees (who were white,) demanding me to put my backpack in the front of the store or i would have to leave the store. I left after seeing more than 10 white people with bags and backpacks left alone and not being harrassed. The other time, I was followed an harassed by two employees telling me and my black friend to empty our pockets. I'm never going back there again, i would give it 0 stars if I could. read more

How's it hanging? Stopped into this store in West Seattle to get some hardware to "re-hang" some art that I've had hanging for a while. But, they were just hanging on nails, which I realized had resulted in cutting/breaking many of the strands of stainless steel and my artwork was at risk of falling off the wall! This place is great though I do wish they had a bit more selection for office supplies. Needed some binder clips and couldn't find any here. Seemed logical for them to have and maybe they do carry them but were just out at the moment. I didn't ask about it so it doesn't effect my review. I mostly buy stickers, paint, brushes, markers, and drawing pads from here but occasionally I'll grab a small gift item (as they have quite a few unique items) or one of the wonderful cards they carry. I've never had anything framed here but what I CAN say about the framing department is that a very nice gentleman helped me figure out what I could use to hang posters with (actually art while I'm working on it but poster material is the closest in thickness to what I use) despite not having that item in stock. I always appreciate places that have no issue sending me somewhere else because they lack something. For that reason, I always come back to those that solve my issue even when they don't have the tools themselves to do so. All in all, I definitely recommend this place. Yes, they have my Voluspa candles and lotsa of cutesy greetings cards, among other nice little treasures but unfortunately the past 3 times I've gone in, I have experienced poor customer service. Ladies at the cash register, I'm sorry I interrupted your personal conversation but I really needed your help locating proper stationary. And yeah, these things happen sometimes, but it also happened the two other times that I had stopped in. And with all the rudeness, my request was still not delivered. When a coworker of mine heard I moved out to West Seattle, the first thing he asked was, "Have you been to that art frame store at the Junction?" I said no, I had not, and he continued to ask me about it every couple of weeks or so until I finally stopped in last weekend. I wish I'd gone there sooner, because it has TONS of cute girly things - which is the "other fun stuff" part of their name, I guess. You don't realize just how big this store is until you walk in, but it's HUGE and goes way back, too. As you come in, the left side is more of a girly gift shop, and the right side is dedicated to art supplies. There's also a framing counter back there where the frame magic happens, although I didn't go over there. The gift-shop side is overflowing with cute greeting cards, boxed notecards and stationery, handbags, soaps and candles, and silly novelty knick-knacks. Whether it's a 3D articulated cat puzzle, a scorpion embedded in a hunk of lucite, or an Anne Taintor magnet you're after, they've got it. Surprisingly, they also had a pretty big selection of Papyrus stationery. I had thought that only Papyrus sold their store brand cards, but they had a big display of boxed cards and blank books. There isn't really a Papyrus near me, so I happily bought a box of their cards that I'd been meaning to get anyway - convenient! Other reviewers mentioned snooty service, but I didn't find this to be the case. When I was ready to buy, there was a line of about three of us, and we sort of shuffled around awkwardly because there wasn't really a good place to stand in line. Another salesperson saw this, came to the register, and beckoned me over to ring me up. She was friendly and asked if I'd found what I was looking for, so maybe service has improved since other reviewers went there. I didn't look too hard at their art supplies, but they seem to have an extensive selection of paints, canvases, paper, and the like. They also have prints for sale and ready-made frames. If you're looking for art supplies or just browsing for a fun and wacky gift, Northwest Art & Frame has plenty to keep you busy. read more

Caution! Hours can be possibly lost in this store due to how many different interesting and fun things they have. I usually come here for birthday cards but end up with additional stuff each trip, they have tons of cards and you should be able to find one for the occasion you are looking for. Northwest Art & Frame is super cool. They have a great selection of art and paper products, and awesome frames to make your place look great. They also do custom framing which we've done a few times now and do SUCH a great job! They're very helpful also. This was the first place I've ever had custom framing done so I wasn't sure what to expect. They make it easy though which is good because you want your art to shine right? They are more than happy to help you pick out exactly the right frame and matte, and are also mindful of how much you want to spend. Custom framing can be costly (though worth it), but they also have a great selection of stock frames in MANY different sizes (even funky ones), and will help you pick out a stock frame as a nice alternative. Kids love the store too. The art stuff is awesome, but they also have a fun selection of erasers that sits low for kids to peruse while you're doing your shopping. Good times had by all. read more

Yiikes this place smells!!! HOWEVER, aside from assaulting my olfactory senses, I must say I love the smattering of goods offered here! When we visited there were some older ladies, some little kids, and some young adults in the back framing area, so you can tell by their diverse clientele that there's something for everyone here. The most outstanding section to me was the giftwrap and craft area, where they had a huge range of ribbon (something I've struggled to find in Seattle) as well as a lot of plain/solid wrapping paper (can't stand the gaudy drugstore stuff). They also stock some curious gag gifts and tiny, miniature japanese food toys (ummm YES!). Definitely a good place to come for random fun gifts and/or gift wrapping needs! read more

Having to say goodbye to our dog was the most painful memory my husband and I ever want to experience in this life. In preparation of the inevitable, I asked a designer/artist friend to photograph my best friend so I could hang his picture in our living room. I was not entirely in a good space when I brought my photo to Northwest Art & Frame--my apologies for my curt behavior. That said, I cannot thank the staff enough for their care, quality, and efficiency. I now have my best friend presented beautifully in our living room, and his photo makes me smile so much. Knowing my best friend is no longer with us will always be painful, but in time this photo will heal my broken heart. read more

I wanted to give NW&F five stars... but... well... how to describe.... First, I went here primarily for art supplies. In some areas, it seemed a little lacking... but in others, HOLY CRAP. They have exotic imported paper like I've never even seen before (or felt)... and their art paper selection in general was enormous to select from. (Ditto on frames, hence the name.) What shocked me was that at least half of the store was more like a gift shop... and not cheap crap, but not outrageously priced stuff either. FANTASTIC assortment of handbags, totes, purses, etc.... fantastic selection on books (both informative, but also off-the-wall-funny-as-hell-stuff too. I especially loved the weird Japanese stickers... and the super creative selection of greeting cards. It was an unexpected delight! I guess I can't give it that final star because I still have to find some things I need at other places, but overall, it was worth the trip over the bridge. :) read more

This is my first non-food or drink oriented yelp review but had to say good things about this place. I brought in a few items that needed framing that I've had for a while and the people here really knew what they were doing and had a great eye for matching things up. One of them is a custom job (still waiting for that to get done) and the other two were standard. You can even save a few bucks by doing the framing yourself after they provide the materials. It was a great pleasure just getting to work with my hands again after a few months of new desk job. Again, really nice people that all seemed to get along really well. A really great store---------and I have been in tons of art supply, craft, gifty, framing places the world over-----this is the bomb! The place is huge and well stocked. The staff is intelligent and helpful............so, I have no clue why someone down the yelp line would say otherwise. Perhaps there was misunderstanding cuz it's a huge place and the customer service is so good and attentive that they may get stretched a little thin while actually doing their work., assisting with framing etc. Case in point, I was in kind of a hurry and I interrupted a sales transaction to ask where something was and not only did the staff lady happily tell me but another customer came over to show me as well!
