I got this old frame from a thrift store but I had absolutely no clue how to hang it up. I've only ever ever used command strips LOL but I've never had to hang something so heavy! We came here last weekend and they suggested that we come another time and bring the frame so they would know what to recommend. I am from out of town, and after trying to find parking in Seattle for a few days I instinctively parked a street over where I saw an open spot, figuring I wouldn't find anything closer. Then I walked over and found to my surprise that they have a very large parking lot available. What a win! Inside there was a fairly large open area that seemed a bit light on choices and inventory of frames. I did find what I needed though, and the gentleman working there was very helpful. If you are just looking for regular picture frames you may find a better selection at Michael's, but if you are looking for custom framing this will definitely be the place for you as it is what they specialize in. The photo was placed on a piece of foam and done well, ready sooner than they had promised. However, when I went to measure the space at home to hang the piece, I found that the hangers placed by the shop were not aligned, one of them at least an inch lower than the other. The attendant apologized briefly but not profusely, as was to be expected, fixed the problem, and cheerily handed it to me as though all was well. At the least I would expect more chagrin and sympathy for my having had to drive back with the piece and for a rather egregious mistake. read more

I really like this shop. They did a great job with my puzzle and i went back with my Gustav Klimt tapestry to be framed. They provide suggestions, help you choose and very informative. I received a phone call a day ago -right around when my tapestry should have been ready- informing me it will not be ready for another 22 weeks so due to supply. But honestly what is not a supply issue or back ordered in 2021 due to pandemic. I was just appreciative to Frame Central for the message and curtesy call setting my expectAtion aligned with reality. I went in was greeted by amazing customer service that basically narrowed down what my confused brain was trying to say. I was so happy with my first piece that I brought every other art piece i owned to them. I even brought pieces in that I was too afraid to get framed since I was scared how people would manipulate them. Had a piece framed here last month. Price was a little high (I've since learned that they price to expect a coupon. Shame on me!), but that's not my gripe. 2' X 3' piece with glass in the most basic frame, about $320. They never called me when the work was complete. I finally called them after three weeks or so and they said that my "voice-mail didn't work." Bit of a weak excuse -- cell phones both having reliable voice-mail and a call log -- but even giving them that possibility of an error, they sure didn't 1) try more than once or 2) care whatsoever about the situation. Even that would not spur a negative Yelp review. What got me is after I framed it today. Stupid gob of dumb dust framed under the glass. All-in-all, I'm glad I took pieces to different framers before I committed a big framing job; move on, folks, many better, cheaper, and more service-oriented framers out there! read more

Good luck trying to use a Groupon there! The first time, they told me that they had already applied a 20% discount since I was a new customer, so I can use the Groupon next time. OK. This time they said that the Groupon doesn't apply to any work that they have to ship out. That' makes sense, but the "fine print" of their Groupon says nothing about that. The employee says that their marketing department is not very good about that. I called Groupon, and explained that Frame Central isn't honoring the deal. Groupon agreed that I met all of the terms of the deal, apologized for the trouble with the merchant, and issued a refund. No longer a Frame Central customer. read more

I had a great experience here yesterday. I always want to support local small businesses, so I always hold my breath and hope I'll have a good experience when I go in for the first time. I took in several pieces of my kids' art. The pieces had subject matter painted to the edges of the paper, odd paper sizes, glitter -- all the elements of a framer's purgatory. Scott helped me figure out how to mat and frame them with materials that looked great but were not terribly expensive. There were some really expensive frame options that looked incredible and were out of my price range for this project, but he didn't pressure me to go with those, even though he could tell how much I liked them. Instead we found items that looked "just really really good". He gave honest opinions, which I appreciated because I needed help seeing how the different frames brought out different elements of the art. I was intending to do the assembly at home, but since he had to make several odd-size cuts of matting and glass and they would be extra tricky to put together at home, he quickly did it on the spot without even charging me. One of the pieces was a tiny piece of embroidery, just shy of a standard frame size. It needed some dark mat but we didn't want the mat to detract or overpower the tiny artwork. Despite the fact that this was a 9-year-old's Saturday project, Scott took it seriously enough to suggest we reverse-bevel the mat so that the white edge would not detract, so the fabric and mat would seem to be almost one field. It was brilliant and it made a huge difference. He wasn't just going through the motions. He was evaluating and preparing this little piece as though it was going to hang in his own home. In addition to that, while I was staring at the options and he was off helping other customers, he was careful to keep checking back with me to see how I was doing. Really, this kind of a place can be -- for me -- full of pressure to upgrade and anxiety about my doubts around my aesthetic choices, but instead I felt very well served and I came away with three pieces gorgeously framed at a price I could afford. read more

They promptly mounted screws and laid out the process for hanging my piece - all at zero charge to me. I was happy to pay, but they refused. My first trip to Frame Central: I had four fashion prints from 1920's Vogue that I had bought on the Left Bank in Paris. I had a poster from the Corning Museum of Glass that has been following me around the country for almost a decade. I had a woodblock print done by a nine-year-old and a postcard-sized pointilist print from the Musee d'Orsay. I had a brand-new house with bare walls. Enter Frame Central. I drove over there with my stuff and threw myself on the mercy of the super duper nice lady working there. Since my paucity-of-funds-induced panic was evident, she told me that if you're looking to frame small art for cheap, you can go over to the "fall-off matt" area and pick out hunks of mattboard that are the extras left over from custom framing jobs. Buy a pre-made frame and they'll cut the matboard and put the whole thing together for $5! I got seven pieces framed for $125!! The best part was when I went to pick them up. She unwrapped them and I whooped and jumped up and down. Then I totally teared up. Everything looked so amazing! I turned to her and said "is it always like this??" She looked at me like one might look at a rabid but cute dog and said "well, we try.." The second trip was less emotional. I had two large Nikki McClure posters to frame. I picked out pre-made frames (they actually had to have the correct size of sent over from a different store which they did cheerfully), but I had to have them done from real matts. It was like $175 for the two but they do look beautiful. They get points off because my nice frugal friend was gone and in her place was a quiet waif who tried to suggest 80's two-tone matting that would have looked like M.C. Hammer meets Nikki McClure. Ugh. I steered her back to white-with-a-black-core and we were good to go. I'm giving them five stars because I actually cried the first time, but really its more like 4 and a half for the last visit being so eff-ing expensive. read more

I brought along a big poster tube filled with stuff I wanted to get pre-made frames for and found stuff for about half, which I was very pleased with. There are a ton of pre-made frames of all sizes, as well as frames to install mirrors in, and a small wall of clearance frames at the back. I actually picked two of the mirror frames (no glass or back included) since I had stuff that needed fancy looking frames, and had these mounted there. I spent about 40 minutes running around trying out premade frames myself (they didn't have a lot of table space I felt I could use myself, but plenty of room to lay big stuff out on the floor). Then I picked the mirror frames (hung high up on the wall) and got help. Amber was very helpful, went and got it right away and helped me think about matboard colors, all the while helping other people who needed to checkout/pickup, so I didn't feel neglected, I had enough time left to myself to ponder but also had input when I needed it. My stuff was ready in about 5 days (sooner than the week they'd estimated), and Amber remembered my name when I went in to pick it up. (I didn't remember hers, it was on the receipt!) Both pictures looked great (although I'm now second-guessing myself on the color I finally picked, maybe I should have gotten the other one! I'm very indecisive though.) She even helped me bring it out to the car. For ~$350 I got: 1 picture mounted in a fancy pre-made 24 x 36 mirror frame (no matboard) - $130 1 picture mounted in a fancy pre-made mirror frame w/ matboard - $100 1 premade 24x36 thick wood frame - $50 (this was super cheap, I thought) 2 premade 11 x 17 frames - about $20 each Yeah, a lot, but for framing, cheap! I can't say enough good things about this frame shop. They do excellent work. It is meticulous and exactly as you arrange for. I have been pleased with both of the jobs I have done there. Beyond that, I love how attentive they are. I have been helped by multiple people in the store and they all have the same approach. They care about you being happy with your project. Things that happened at Frame Central: 1) Creative suggestions for mats/frames and pricing of each option. 2) Repair of a compromised piece they did (my fault) free of charge. 3) A quick re-wiring, complimentary. 4) Helped me find discounts online, so that when all was said and done, I hadn't spent my entire month's income on framing. 5) Not only was their work impeccable but sometimes completed early. Frame Central is awesome! They've been incredibly helpful over the years. I probably frame 1-3 things there a year. I often get my frames elsewhere (IKEA) but have them cut the mats for me w/ their computerized machine. It's a cost effective compromise to frame a wide variety of posters. I did use them to frame a large Charles Peterson photograph that's 3' x 4'. Amazing work! The staff is helpful and they have a turntable and play records in the store. The frames are great and its a good location. A bit on the pricier side but not the worst in Seattle price wise. I've probably spent close to 500 at this place on art work of mine and posters and prints on off during the last year. All three times Autumn helped me. The last two times, she was really rude and brisk and would not help me with an issue I had with putting a screw in the frame. She refused to help me and Every time I asked a question she acted as if she was being inconvienenced. The first time I went there it was fine, because there was another sales associate there that helped me with framing issue and she rung me up. The other two times when I had Autumn help me was a nightmare and unpleasant experience. Overall she was just rude and acted like she hated being there and doing her job. Framing is expensive. I shop around a lot for the best prices I can get. As photographer and arts lover, I love and need good large frames, and I need a lot of them, and I need to keep the cost down. These guys at the Wallingford Frame Central have always been able to offer competitive pricing with high quality. And the advantage to the fact that they have multiple locations in the region is that if I need multiple frames of a certain kind and if they don't have enough on the shelf, they can get more for me from their other stores. They also allowed me to save money by framing my stuff myself, after having them cut a mat for me. They let me use their space to put my frame & art together, and they even gave me pointers and tips on how to do it when I got lost! Then recently I had some art framed for a family member and they were great at helping me pick the right matting and frame, while aiming for a tight budget. I can trust their visual opinion on what works, they have the experience and the eye for it. Their pre-fabricated frames are pretty competitive against the custom frames, and save you a lot of money if you don't have to have it custom framed. read more

There are so many customizable options for framing that they offer and it isn't even that expensive (compared to Aaron Brothers where you just get standard frames and have to pay a ridiculous amount for). On the plus side, they are pleasant and do good work. What I don't like is how cagey they are on their prices. They claim "discounts" on their coupons but never show you the before and after prices. I had something reframed (using the original frame) and I got a new mat (nothing special order), glass, reframing and backing for $80. I had thought that was the ORIGINAL price and was surprised at the cost. Ridiculous.
