Karrie has a fine art degree, is a beautiful fine artist, and the care with which she handles every single piece that comes through her door for framing is astounding. I have seen her take old pieces, water damaged pieces, tapestries that have faded or started to fray, and use all manner of stitching, stretching, retouching, restorative methods to make every treasured piece beautiful again. And she is cheaper than the other chain stores, who I wouldn't trust with such pieces. Extremely well-organized, clean, and interesting to browse--she showcases local and emerging artists in the gallery portion, she has a monthly show to introduce these artists or new works by local legends, and her staff is knowledgeable and personable as well. The effort and artistry they ALL put into their craft is simply wondrous. And as another reviewer said, they archive your records and can match anything they've done for you in the past, and they are really not "boutique" priced. I've had tiny jobs, children's art, and fine art pieces done and they have been durable and beautiful for well over a decade--some closer to two decades. Another thing: she will come to your home for a modest fee, assess your walls and decor, and will do installations of pieces that are huge--I mean massive; like 30 feet tall. When she came to my home one time to assess my color and where I wanted to hang, she noticed a super old and super heavy mirror I had hung in the nursery and said, "uh, I'm going to just fix that right now." She fastened it in my lathe and plaster so that it would never come crashing down. Indeed, it survived on the wall through an earthquake. I would not trust anyone else. This is the best frame store in Seattle. I had a huge project framing over 32 (so far) family photos. I started the project using other frame stores before finding this gem. I found that experience frustrating at times because I had a certain vision in mind, and felt the staff at the other places lacked the desire to help with that vision. I did the groupons trying to minimize costs because framing can be quite expensive. Fast forward to discovering Baas Framing. I felt the staff here get it. They understand what you are trying to achieve and make incredibly helpful recommendations to get there. Their prices are even better than any other place I've used, even the places that offer groupons. I now will not go anywhere else. I live in Everett and travel by bus to come here... that's how much I enjoy working with these folks. read more

This a great framing studio with fantastic personal service, great care of fine art work, original photographs and kindness to the not so fine. Karrie and her framers have done a number of projects for me (and my friends and family) over the years and have cared well for everything, included climate damaged museum quality work. She always listens, gives appropriate suggestions and knows her frames, mats, glass, and is an artist herself. I love the selection of materials she has across all price ranges. I seem to have a knack for spying the gems, and if I don't want to spend as much, she directs me to something with similar design elements, listening to what I am looking for to enhance the presentation of the piece. I purchased a shadow box frame for a photo and memorabilia for my brother's 70th birthday. The shadow box was a major success!!!!!!!! It was an awesome present; I'm not sure when I've seen my brother more emotional. The party a few days later was supposed to be no presents, but my brother Dick brought the shadow box show off. The artistic approach and technical know-how impressed us. We bought a painting overseas which was cracked by the time we came back. We were not sure how much it would be to touch up, but by the time they had stretched the painting, we didn't need the touch up services. As the painting was unusual, we were not sure what kind of frame would work and needed help. I don't think I'm alone in thinking that independent boutique-like businesses are going to be more expensive than chain stores. Today I had two photos that needed to be framed and one fine etching that was a companion to another etching framed several years before. Through Groupon I bought a screaming framing deal to a well-known chain of framing stores so I started there first. The framing of two pre-matted 5x7 photos ended up running $265.34 so with discount rang the cash register at slightly north of $200. Did I mention that these were simple, slim profile frames? Translation: nothing special. I raised my eyebrows and ponied up. Now for the etching which did require some special treatment. I brought in another framed etching by the same artist and asked them to match the mat color and frame exactly - the chain store couldn't do it. I turned the etching over and voila, it was framed by Baas. I jumped in my car and made the 5 minute drive over. As soon as I walked in the front door I had one of those "I could have had a V-8 moments" - it's just one of those places that makes you feel great - friendly people, immediate attention and a warm overall ambience. They seem entirely genuine in their enthusiasm for whatever you've brought them to frame. They're helpful and consultative. In my case, I asked them to duplicate framing they had done years before. Now for what was truly impressive: they pulled up the work order from 4 years prior and got those specs to make sure the frame, mat and dimensions are going to match exactly. On par, their prices were significantly less than the chain store I went to earlier in the day. They are even faster, 10 days vs. 2 weeks. So, if you're in Seattle, shop local and go to a store that truly appreciates your business. Baas is definitely worth the trip! read more
