Molly has been doing my framing for almost 3 years now. She's creative and comes up with some great ideas for my photos and artwork.

Jon is also concerned about price of framing and will often suggest a less expensive frame that looks as nice as the more expensive one.

I called the shop earlier in the day to ask if they would accept a half down payment for the total cost of the frame job because most frame shops will work with you on that and this was the only way I could afford it. The guy I spoke to told me they had stopped doing it due to customers never showing up to pick up their framed items, but could potentially work with me as long as I made the full payment BEFORE picking it up which I was more than happy to do. I showed up in person later with my poster to go over the matting, frame choices etc. and it was a different guy who I didn't speak to over the phone. When I got my quote at the end, I was told they would not accept any down payment and needed the full payment before cutting the frames. While I understand the reason for this and that they want customers to commit to paying them, I wish they had some clarification on their website and/or I didn't get mixed information when I spoke to the man on the phone because I feel like it was a waste of my time to come in and go through choosing the matting/poster frame. Nonetheless the framing jobs are beautiful but not a fan of the mixed customer service I received, would have been happy to give them my business if they offered down payments.

I saw this business come up in online searches for custom picture frames, however I have been using…read moreanother online company, American Frame, for so long that I did bother considering them. An architect friend of mine mentioned to me that this company's prices are very reasonable compared to other online framing sites so I decided to give them a try. Overall, really good product and excellently cut mats (they are definitely doing this with an automated mat cutter because there was zero overlap in the cut - a good thing). My frames arrived in 5 days, and I guess this is because since they are made in Seattle, the shipping time was only 1 day. This means that they were able to get my frames out in 3 days. Granted they were metal frames so there was no complicated woodworking involved, but this is much faster than the 1-2 weeks that it takes a retail store. The one thing that I found not so hot was their selection of picture frames. It is not all that great. They have plenty of moldings types available for sale, but not as much as their online competitors and not nearly as much as you would find in a bricks-and-mortar frame shop. Having said this, what metal and wood frames they do sell, more than meets my mostly black and white photography needs. If you are framing something more elaborate and need ornate frames, you might want to look elsewhere. I am giving it 4 stars just because of the lack of selection. Otherwise, I am very happy. One thing I found useful is reading their "Framing Basics" page (http://www.pictureframeguys.com/basics.php). Although I knew most of this stuff from buying frames online in the past, I think they do a pretty good job explaining the process to anybody who is buying picture frames online for the first time.

I hate to give such a negative review to a store that has so much to love. I had read the negative…read morecomments before, but the employees I had previously interacted with were super kind and I bought some circular knitting needles on one's recommendation. I went in today planning to get some supplies for another project - my first since knitting 3 of the same basic triangle scarf. I had some wool already (some beautiful merino from "So Much Yarn" at Pike Place), but assumed I'd need some new needles or perhaps some different wool if I wanted to use my current needles. I went to the back and when I put my coffee down on a shelf to take out my yarn to show her, the employee (or the owner, perhaps) very testily told me NEVER to put coffee down near the yarn - especially cashmere. It made sense that they were cautious, but her attitude was very rude - as if I were an inconsiderate child who needed scolding. I moved my coffee to the garbage can lid where she indicated I could put it and I explained what I was there for and she said - well you already have yarn that you purchased somewhere else. We can sell you some yarn, but we don't have time to get an inexperienced knitter set up on a project with wool they didn't buy here. I was shocked, and said - gosh, I'm feeling pretty unwelcome. I wasn't expecting anyone to get me set up with anything. I already have a pattern and was expecting to buy some needles at least. She started to say how she's "happy to help" me, but I felt so humiliated, I just left. There are so many knitters in there sitting around and talking and I had honestly hoped to be one of them one day once I became a better knitter, but I'll never return. I have never been treated so rudely in a shop in my life.

Because Tricoter provides such a warm space for people to learn and gather, I find myself keep going back to find more projects. Not just a place where knitting supplies are sold, Tricoter is a genuine community space where people gather to share their love of knitting. I have gotten so spoiled that I am not sure I can go to any other yarn store.
