My mom, the best person with technology ever, was confused as to why she couldn't post her review…read moreof Lisa on Yelp. So, she printed it out and gave it to me to "figure out." Right there where it usually says "Post," says "Sign Up and Post." I think we just learned where I get my stellar powers of observation. Yelp has a big rule about writing reviews of things you haven't personally experienced and/or for other people who are so tech savvy they can't find the sign up button, but I am able to reconcile this rule with one fact: I lived, for 16 years, in the house where Lisa's work was held. Instead of writing out what my mother wrote, I'm going to write what *I* felt about it. And I give this an emphatic five stars. When Lisa was painting our bamboo forest mural, I'd wish she stopped halfway through right up until the very end. When we visited Hawai'i, the majestic bamboo forests that would lead you onto a beach with clear blue water is like something out of a dream. Instead of nightmares, I'd dream about that - and walking down the hallway or entering the foyer from the front door, I was constantly staring into this half finished bamboo forest with a blueish background so beautiful that you could hear the waves crashing gently onto the sand. At the very end, she filled in the forest with more trees that were as wonderful as the last she painted. My ocean was...gone, in a sense, but it felt like if I just peeled back the incredibly realistic looking bamboo, it would be there again. We have a few of her portraitures hanging up in the house. It's as if the person is looking back at you. Her work is fantastic. Let her do her thing and you absolutely will not be disappointed...even if halfway through you want her to stop.

I branched out of my comfort zone and did some different techniques, including sponges, and I'm so happy with how they turned out! One negative review made her sound pushy and intrusive, but that wasn't our experience at all! She let us do our own thing and then was happy to give us advice when we asked. Also, when I was in the back washing my hands, she showed me some of the other customers recently finished pieces and spoke about then so lovingly, "They all have a story!" she gushed. I got the impression that she loves this studio, her customers, and the art that gets created here. Finally, the studio is a lovely space! Lots of windows, art work on the walls, painted pottery examples all around, and free parking in the back!

This gallery is located in Pacific Place so right before you go to Din Tai Fung or take the sky bridge to Nordstrom, you can check it out. It is relatively small so it won't take long to see what it offers. A majority of the art is from black/African descended artists. Plus the art featured ranges from paintings to photography to structural pieces. So one can see variation while they visit just in case they have a preferred style. As it is a gallery, you can purchase some of the art that is hanging. Prices range from the double digits to the triple digits so you can find something in your price range. There are a few pieces with prices in the thousands too. In addition to big pieces, when I visited the store they were also selling artisan made bracelets and jewelry with beads and note cards. So you can get a souvenir as well. I know pre-COVID this also was a space for shows and poetry readings, especially those based on the art shown. So I think this could be a place to keep in your thoughts post-COVID for things to do.

We really liked his style but the color scheme wasn't what we wanted. Eric was approachable, friendly, and very helpful. After telling him what we were looking for, he texted the artist and sent us pictures later that night of additional work that the artist had in his Utah studio. We really liked them and Eric arranged to have them framed and shipped to Seattle so we could see in person. The pictures were there and we ended up falling in love with two of then. We bought one on the spot. We couldn't be happier with the work and we really appreciated Eric's demeanor through the process. We have never bought "real art" before and Eric made it stress free and fun. He was super helpful and will definitely go back to his gallery next time we want some artwork.

I would have loved to own any piece on display, but the new owners are taking the place in a different direction. Yes, you can still find the iconic bronze Georgia Gerber sculptures and kinetic works from Andrew Carson (who doesn't love them!), but the remaining items are nothing near the quality that the original owners kept on-hand. Lackluster, run-of-the-mill landscape paintings and overpriced wood boxes (the quality of which are surprisingly low in comparison to so many others on the market) now take up space where truly unique pieces used to be displayed. The lovely salesperson I spoke to said they are discontinuing several of the artists I specifically would go there to view. As someone who actively tries to find value in all forms of art, I'm really, really disappointed. Gallery Mack was once a rare gem. Maybe this is just a time of growing pains for the new owners while they figure out the direction they want to go in; I hope so!
