The concept, service, management and unique factor are 5 stars - but the heavy, greasy feeling after eating 2 donuts (a plain jane with powder and a french toast) and our 7 year old ate one (loaded with chocolate glaze and sugarry toppings - lord know what she picked out!) left us literally nauseous. Tip - only eat ONE (they are greasy as hell) and do not overload on glazes/toppings. In future it's plain jane for me. They taste great - but less than 30 minutes later we felt so awful. We paced ourselves and enjoyed them through the course of the day, but they're best when fresh from the fryer. We tried some of the "busier" combinations, and they were all good, but we enjoyed the simpler donuts the most. We recommend the Coffee Cake, the OC Sand or the Pebble Beach, to name a few. Good stuff!!!! How can you go wron with Fresh HOT Donuts covered in all kinds of sweet, and crunchy goodies?? YOU CAN"T!! These things are so good!!! You gotta try them since you haven't had anything like them from a DD or other donut shop. We also had a Bagel sandwhich from there which was surprisingly good as well. Fractured Prune is pretty great! They have a huge list of toppings that you can choose from, then they fry up the donuts while you wait. They only make cake donuts, which aren't normally my thing, but these are worth it. As a few other people have stated, the owner makes the experience. We were in town for a wedding and it happened to be particularly rainy that day. I stopped by in the morning to pick up some donuts for a healthy breakfast, and the owner started chatting me up. When I told him I was attending an outdoor wedding later that day, he immediately offered up his establishment as a back up location for free! At first I was trying to figure out his angle, but after talking to him for a while I decided that he is just a nice guy... good way to get positive reviews too. This place is amazing! The food speaks for itself, but it also helps that the staff is friendly and fun. The manager (owner?) was visible and helping the workers, and when she offered me an iced chai instead of hot, she made it herself and brought it over to us. There are so many toppings available for your fresh, hot donut, and they are willing to customize the specialty donuts they have available as well. I wish there was a Fractured Prune near me! This is a fun donut shop that's different from the ordinary Dunkin Donuts. Here, you order the donuts with the toppings you choose and it's made fresh for you. It's a total carb/sugar overload but soooo good. They only serve hot donuts. My favorite toppings are peanut butter and chocolate chips and mint glaze with chocolate chips. There are at least 10 different glazes and 10 more toppings to choose from. Worth a try and a family tradition for me and my kids when we are at the beach in Delaware. The Ocean City Maryland location is also good but you can't sit down at a table there. read more

I have visited Rehoboth for several years and have wanted to try this place. This year we got up early and went to get breakfast. It's obviously a popular place. The line of customers was ongoing. They offer donuts with simple glazes and then they offer a line if specialty flavors-like Reese's Peanut Butter Cup. We ordered a half dozen regular glazed and a half dozen chocolate glazed for the "donut purists" that were with us. Then we ordered a dozen specialty. They write the names of the donuts in the lid so you know which donut is which. They are made fresh to order. I thought since they were a cake consistency that they would be heavy. That being said, it was a cloudy rainy blah day this past Thursday in Rehoboth, and me and the kids needed some quick grub. All my friends raved about the Fractured Prune locations here in DC, so we though hey - it's right there by the outlets, so why not. Kids + sugar = fun. We pull up at 1:45 and notice they close at 2 PM - they even turned the lights out in the dining room already. Oops. I sheepishly walk in with my kids, and the owners were more than happy to turn the lights on for us as we stood there arguing over how many doughnuts we wanted and which kind. We got a dozen to take home for later, mostly of the OC sand and French toast variety. The owners told us that the doughnuts would still be good tomorrow. We ate some banana pudding, rolo, and French toast doughnuts while we were there. They were hot hot hot (which is good), but a tad undercooked for my tastes. The next morning the boys woke up all excited to doughnuts for breakfast. They ripped open the box and you'd have thought that Santa forgot them on Christmas by the looks on their faces. The glazes had all disappeared and the doughnuts were all mushy. They weren't even edible and all got thrown out - which was a nice waste of $11. q-( o.o )-p In summary, I will not be going out of my way to go to the Fractured Prune - once you've had hot fresh Krispy Kreme glazed, everything else is inferior. This place is beach staple. Whenever I head to the beach I always stop here and get some donuts. The OC Sand is my favorite!! The doughnuts are freshly made to order, and there are a million toppings you can choose from. Be sure to get there when they first open. Especially in the summer as the wait can be long. My daughter has been hounding me to take her to Fractured Prune for some time now, but each time we're in the area we realize too late(regular hours end at 3 pm). Yesterday however we got there with what we thought was enough time to spare, however, sadly when we pulled into the parking lot the sign on the door said they closed at 2. Cue broken hearts(lol). We did however see someone standing inside by the counter, which raised our hopes that maybe they were open. We were about to get out of the car when the young lady that we had noticed, came out of the store carrying a box of donuts. As she was approaching the parking lot, I asked if they were closed and she came to my vehicle to explain that though they were closed, they did have these donuts left over(cinnamon sugar and honey glazed) and then proceeded to give them to me. I told her I couldn't accept them, as they were hers, and she explained that she had more inside. It's my assumption that she was an employee and saw our faces when we realized they were closed, and just wanted to make the day of a mother and daughter looking for an afternoon treat. She absolutely did! I will be back to Fractured Prune soon, as customer service is a big deal to me and a gesture like this has proven to me that theirs is TOP NOTCH! It encouraged me to patronize this business every time we're by the beach from now on. I truly appreciate the kindness, not to mention the delicious donuts we were given. Excellent target for an early morning walk or bike (they open at 7 during the season). Friendly staff, great flavors, and that early there isn't a line. A little less innovative in flavor than, say, voodoo in Portland, but that's because of their specific method. Still delicious and cheap. read more

Ambiance: Cute purple donut shack with black and white tiled floors bring the beach atmosphere to Coastal Hwy. I especially liked the history of its name, go Purnella! Service / Set-Up: The place is separated into 2 sections. The coffee shop and seating area and the donut ordering area. This allowed for a quick flow for what was nonstop traffic, at least while we were there. The staff was efficient and had service with a smile. Food: They only serve one type of donut, the original, but with various toppings -or- I should say dunks and toppings. We tried the Lemon and Ocean Beach. Both were really good especially when the donuts were made fresh at the time of our ordering them, what a difference. Cleanliness: clean bathrooms and wiped tables made eating in comfortable. My girlfriend and I went here to get some donuts after being recommended by a friend. The hot, made as you order donuts here are absolutely delicious and are probably the best donuts I've ever had. They were so good that I had to go back later during my vacation to get a second half dozen. We loved the great variety of donut flavors as well. The only reason they don't receive a fifth star is because their breakfast sandwiches are really bad. In addition to donuts on our first visit my girlfriend and I got bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches which consisted of precooked circular bacon patties that tasted microwaved and precooked egg patties like you'd get out of a fast food restaurant breakfast.
