Wanted to have one of their specials, a $6 1/2 burger every Monday. Great buy but because I wanted it to go, they would not honor that pricing. There was no caveat to the contrary about where it had to be eaten. So I left with the admonition that I would never be back. Not the waitstaff's fault. She was embarrassed I think. We spent Christmas Eve at fox fire and had a wonderful time. The food was delicious and our server was great. She was able to suggestion changes to certain dishes and was very attentive. The menu has something for everyone and I can't wait to go back to try more. read more

The overall experience was okay. They were very friendly and came to check on us often. Our waitress was really nice but a tad unfamiliar with the specials even though there were only two that day. We started with the calamari which had two different sauces. One sauce was really strong and overpowering so it would have been nicer to have it on the side rather than sit all the food in it and make it unavoidable for anyone that didn't care for it. My boyfriend ordered the steak and while it had a good flavor it was extremely salty. He's a huge steak fan and he only ate half because there was just way too much salt. I had the chicken and ribs. The ribs were tender but under-flavored and the sauce tasted as though it had way too much of something in it. The chicken was EXTREMELY over seasoned with whatever rub they used to make it. It was completely inedible. I didn't eat any of the chicken and half of the ribs. We chose Brussel Sprouts and the sweet potato mash for sides. The potatoes had no real flavor and the sprouts were just okay. Over this was just an okay experience and at the end we barely ate our food and told them to keep the rest. Perhaps it was an off night /meal but I don't think we will be back. read more

Feel like we hit a home run with our stay this week in Geneva, Illinois. Couldn't believe the food. Foxfire was some of the best food I've had and the service was outstanding. Wanted to eat out on their patio because of the nice weather and the hostess found someone to wait on us since there was no one out there eating. While the tables and chairs were more casual, the ambiance was wonderful with lights strung overhead and music playing. Our server was terrific with strong recommendations that were on point. We started with the Mexican Shrimp Cocktail which is more like a shrimp ceviche and excellent! Then we had the Filet Diane and the Scallops on Asparagus risotto which melted in your mouth. Then because it was my birthday, they gave us a complementary dessert. We elected the Bourbon Banana Cake with Toffee Caramel frosting. It was decadent and delicious. $$$$ (Dressy, but not formal) I went here on a date with my wife recently. The decor, ambience and atmosphere were wonderful! Really a spectacular interior and very cool, exposed, trendy kitchen. We were dressed up, ready to fork over $100+ for two, so my expectations were high. The waiter was decent but definitely could have checked on us more often. I still tipped him well. He was friendly and helpful when he did show up. We ordered the crab cakes for an appetizer. They were not that great. Not bad, but NOTHING to write home about. I've had better crab cakes at very casual seafood joints. My wife got shrimp scampi and she said it was good and I got the FoxFire medallions w/ Garlic Mashed Potatoes. The mashed potatoes = same story as the crab cakes. Not that great. Not bad. Not good. Was expecting much, much better though. The steak... was AMAZING. Cooked perfectly medium-rare. Absolutely spectacular steak. The demi-glaze, bleu cheese and cranberry style was unique, original and perfectly executed. Besides the lackluster sides and apps, this place is DEFINITELY the go-to steak spot in the Geneva area, no question about that. I will be back! GET THE MEDALLIONS! read more

GREAT waitress. And that's where it ends. Never had a prime 38.00 new York strip and would have to put a seasoned crust on it to give it flavor. We came in dinner for four. And ordered my steak medium .with risotto. The steak came out below rare. The risotto was perfect. Sent the steak back by the time they brought it back the whole table was done with dinner and was ordering desert. At that point I just asked to wrap it to go. Definitely disappointed. Most highline restaurants would at least comp the desert we spent over 300.00 on dinner for four, and my 40.00 steak went home in a box. Never going back. read more

My wife and I where very pleased with this restaurant . I had the ribeye and my wife had the ribs. The food was perfectly cooked to our liking. The wait staff was also very good. Water glasses where always filled and the drinks where also taken care of promptly. Kurt the owner also came around to make sure everything was prepared well . My wife and I went here for our anniversary. we went early since we didn't have an appointment which the host ensured we should have since 2 servers called off but it was 5 PM, so we agreed to sitting at a high top. We both order the french onion soup which was delicious. Then for the main course I ordered the Philadelphia steak and my wife ordered the double lobster tail. my wife's food was cold when it came to the table. the server was vary apologetic, but they didn't even offer our a free desert when my wife and I had to eat our main course separately since mine would have been cold by the time her's came back. the steak was cook perfect and was good but not for the price. $130 for two people that couldn't even eat together. Bring your wallet, but its worth it. My wife and I usually have Foxfire as an anniversary dinner. New England Clam Chowder and horseradish crusted steaks are the best. Truthfully, I'm shocked at the low ratings this place got from some. read more

After our wonderful experience less than 2 years ago, our return visit was terrible. Our server was actually bad, because she did not follow through with promises. If you say you will get more bread, do not make us ask for more 10 minutes later. If every one has empty water glasses at the start of the meal; do not ask if any one needs water refills. Service rated 1 star on this visit. Most of the food we had was mediocre, or downright awful. Appetizers - shrimp cocktail was ok mussels were awful. Overcooked, too small, and a waste of money. the sauce the mussels came in was outstanding, and we ate it on the bread as a makeshift appetizer. This was when we were brought bread refills Entrees - Signature rib dinners were not so special. Dry, overcooked ribs, with a peculiar bbq sauce poured on top. Presentation was poor. Cajun ribeye sandwich had no flavor and the meat was tough. Cajun to me means spicy. Not here. French onion soup had the perfect mix of bread and cheese. It is unfortunate, however, because the soup was so salty it was inedible. The au gratin potatoes, which I loved before, tasted like fish. Something was definitely off this evening. When a restaurant charges high end prices, say 30 to 40 dollars for entrees, one expects attentive service as well as a high level of quality of the food. Sadly, we received poor food, with even worse service. There are better alternatives in the tri cities that we will exhaust before we return here. This restaurant seems to be resting on its past reputation. No effort seemed to be made to create a superior dish, properly cooked, seasoned, and presented. The sandwich was actually served on a plate, with zero garnishments. It takes effort to keep a good restaurant running well, and we did not see much effort being exerted. read more

Hello, We wanted to let you know what a wonderful meal and service we had last evening (7/31/15) at Fox Fire. This was our first visit and we happened on your restaurant by chance. My husband and I were out for a beautiful convertible weather drive and he was looking for a new dinner location on "Open Table" and your location had great reviews so we thought we'd try. The restaurant impressed us as we walked in with the set up and decor, your host was so friendly and pleasant.....service was so welcoming and attentive....the gentleman bringing the water even asked if we were enjoying our meal....great staff! I am assuming the gentleman that came around to the table to ask if we like our meal was the owner? He was such a nice and friendly man we appreciated him checking in on us. Oh wait, I didn't even talk about the food! Spectacular!!! I had Prime Rib and it was perfect.....my husband loved his Steak Salad....we had "Lunatic" wine and it's a new favorite now! Thank you for all of the hard work....it sure pays off. We will be back again soon! This was an amazing location! read more

Made reservations here to celebrate our 43rd wedding anniversary on January 27, so sorry we did. We were seated right away, but waited for our waitress for 10 minutes to come by and take our drink order then she was gone again for another 10. The restaurant was not busy and they had other waitresses working. We ordered the Ribeye steak and a dish to share the augratin potatoes. The steaks were excellent but the potatoes were greasy and lumped with a glob of chedder on top. The waitress came by just before we finished our meal so I did get to order my coffee, that was all the service we received my husband never got a chance to order another beer with his dinner. I was extremely disappointed with our service and would not recommend this to anyone. read more

Where do I begin. Great atmosphere and the service is impeccable. We meet up with family and they are always accommodating, friendly, and food is grand. The prime rib is one of my favorites. Drink selection is unlimited. filet skewers for appetizer are delicious. Servers, management, bartenders and staff are visible available and welcoming. Thank you for making this place our favorite. On other note, we had dinner plans at another restaurant and had been treated poorly, we called and told us they could accommodate us and that they would make up for it. Boy did they. Foxfire has dropped the ball on quality of food and service. Last night my wife ordered an apple martini which was basically straight vodka. The bread rolls tasted like they were from 2 nights before. The onion soup which is typically very good barely had any cheese. We could barely hear what the waitress was saying. Both of our main entree; one of which was a special was just average. In summary for the money a big disappointment. Next time if you are seeking a very good meal and overall experience in this price point, go to Wildfire on 3rd street. read more

They had an opportunity to overwhelm me and my friends at dinner the other night, but their attempt failed!!! Even though we had made reservations in advance, we knew that Saturday nights get very busy...we arrive on time yet we still had to wait for a table. 10-15 minutes later we were seated. Put in our drink orders and settled in, trying to have a conversation in what was a very loud and distractingly noisy dining room. After a bit we put in our food orders and tried to make a good time of things. I was starting to fidget as things appeared to be taking quite a long time since we last saw our waitress. About an hour and ten minutes later she came to our table and apologized for the delay and informed us that our food should be ready in the next few (5-10) minutes. Finally!!! As the food was being brought out, my entree was not there. The waitress said she could bring out part of it so that we can all start eating, as she put it..."some food to start is better than none" Mind you we all ordered off the menu so there was no special order that needed preparation. My meal arrived minus the salmon, which they would bring out when it was cooked. Besides the slow and awkward service and a very pricey menu selection, the food we came for was nothing very special. I might have given them 2 Stars if I didn't have to slice the cooked salmon and add it atop of my Mediterranean Salad. Underwhelmed! read more

Had a small family reception in the private room last night and we were all very happy with everything. The food was wonderful, the dessert was outstanding and one thing for us ladies that was appreciated was how comfortable the temperature was. Our waitress was sweet and prompt and we would happily recommend this to anyone in need of private room to reserve. Also, on a side note- the staff handled a medical emergency extremely well. A female patron in the main dining area became unresponsive and suffered from breathing difficulties- the staff worked well together to clear the area, keep other patrons calm and took measures to prevent choking or injury. Emergency response and EMTS had no problem reaching the patient easily with their equipment. Well done. And the creme brulee was amazing. read more

Cool outside with some great music sometimes during the summer. The steaks are good and so are the sides. Kinda loud and a lot of action going on. Lunch time it's much quieter. Pretty pricy but higher end dinning with a large wine selection. It's something Geneva needs, a good steak house. I just don't like paying that much for food sometimes. read more

Is this one of only a few steakhouses in Geneva? I can only think of Wildwood as another. I guess I should try a filet & see how they do. Copied Craig R.'s menu and ordered the Halibut fritters appt & the artichoke and blackberry chicken which was outstanding. We were entertaining guests and they were quite impressed with the meal as was I. The staff here is always nice & plentny of parking in the back lot. For Geneva, this place is nice. It couldn't compete in the city, but then, dining in this neck of the woods can be "interesting," so all things considered, Foxfire was a pleasant dining experience. The menu was typical Chicago suburban steak fare, but you have myriad options of how your steak is prepared, which is a huge plus. And they do know their temperatures. Med-rare really is med-rare - very important. A decent wine selection and the cozy, woodsy fireplace made it comfortable. They were out of regular espresso so we opted for coffee and we just had no room left for dessert. read more

I'll go 3.5 on the stars. When this place first opened it was awful. If you haven't been there for a while, you should try it again. It has changed hands and the new management has made this place an option. We utilize it quote a bit for business meals. It's not too loud. There is something for everyone on the menu. I'm also leaning toward 3.5 stars. Let me start by saying on a beautiful Friday night the place was not very crowded, in a good way. Everyone was sweltering in the patio/beer garden across the street and we enjoyed people watching from the A/C. I thought our server was very attentive and verrry cute...my male counterpart wasn't a fan. We both got entrees which included house salad. Pass on the watery lettuce and teaspoon of dressing. Bread also left something to be desired. Crab stuffed tilapia was very (too) rich but the cajun seared tuna was delicious ly fresh and tasty, although quite curious as it was served with wasabi and soy on a bed of julienned cucumber?? The drinks were pricey as was the food, I'd go back if I was in the area, but nothing to write home about. read more

FoxFire offers a great local option for premium steaks in Geneva if you don't want to drive to Oakbrook, Schaumburg, or Chicago. We have eaten there several times, and dinenrs are good - but for an awesome dinner go on Thursday nights - Foxfire offers half price appetizers. The last two times we have gone, we have gone on Thurs - it lasts til 7 and we sat at the bar, had 4 or 5 appetizers and a bottle of wine for a great dinner at a really good price. The shrimp skewers are a favorite - with these unique spicy little red peppers and pineapple, very tasty. Mussels are also good - the only complaint there is they need to include more toast points. Also has a Cajun beef slider that was really nice. Mushroom caps and beef skewers were OK, but instead I would try the ahi tuna next time read more

FoxFire has always been a Geneva staple. Decided to go there for our anniversary and it was really just average. We got steaks and they were very bland. On the plus side, our waiter, Miguel, was very attentive and knowledgeable, and the wine was great. Food was just okay. Disappointed. read more

Horrible Experience - My husband and I Live here in Geneva and tried this place many years ago - we decided to give it another try over a weekend in September, The place wasn't that crowded but they sat us right in front of the kitchen anyway -We ordered a bottle of wine and Shrimp Cocktail which were both fantastic - Someone other that's our waitress brought us our wine and Shrimp about 20 minutes later our waitress came back to take our order we both ordered steaks which came with a side vegetable and a potatoe - Our meal came from someone other than our waitress and it was only the steaks no side and no potatoe and my husbands steak was raw - and our waitress was not to be found until it was time to bring the bill - she never cam and asked how the meal was - if we wanted coffee or dessert NOTHING ! When she finally came with the bill I explained to her that half the meal came and my husbands steak was raw she replied with " I'm sorry " I asked to speak to the owner who offered to give us a gift card for a return visit NO THANKS there's a reason why we haven't been in this place in years and there's a reason why we wont be back CUSTOMER SERVICE is a big deal and this place lacks that - with so many better choices in Geneva and St Charles We wont be back ! read more
