Thinking it was out of budget, we were simply looking for inspiration. Tristan greeted us, has continued to give us exceptional customer service, and provides regular updates on the sometimes painful wait times for furniture - not uncommon for any store. In fact, he was able to pull our dining off a truck that another store ordered in the area, saving us 2 months of wait time AND it will arrive in time for our guests who are visiting in a few weeks! Purchased a table through a decorator. On arrival there was a small chip I noticed as soon as delivery men left. Then with minimal use more chips/dents quickly appeared. They will not allow return of table. They allowed for a furniture repair man to come fix the chips. They said adding a stringer finish will void the warranty and just add a glass topper to the table. The repair man said the finish is very soft and only options to actually use the Dining table for more than Decoration piece is have a new professional finish applied (@ cost of $1000) or add glass topper. I went with my family hoping to find one or two pieces for my new home. After some browsing, I saw a piece I really liked, but quite honestly I felt largely ignored by the sales staff. There was one associate who did walk by and ask us if we were okay, and that was appreciated, but I happen to notice who gets greeted entering and exiting a store, particularly one that sells high end furniture. I'm a POC, and while others were greeted upon entering and exiting, we were not. These things matter, particularly given the social climate these days. The store was not busy and there were plenty of sales staff on this Saturday afternoon. It would have been so easy for the associate sitting at a desk near the entrance to simply show us the same courtesy everyone else received. I don't plan to go back. Four Hands Home is a really cool store with a slightly disturbing name. Whenever I hear it I think 'are there 4 severed human hands hidden somewhere in the store? Is this some macabre game? If I see one am I supposed to say something? Is there a prize involved? Or does some saber wielding freak leap out and slice my hands off? Should I keep my hands hidden in my pockets? Oh, look at that cool chest of drawers'. Thank god for my ADD or I'd focus on the dark side of things forever. We needed new stuff. Our old stuff was not cutting it. We didn't want to spend a ton of money but we wanted durable quality and a bit of style. An old friend who knows Austin like the back of her hand told us to check out Four Hands Home and like just about all of her other recommendations, this one was a winner. We were looking for bedroom furniture. Ours was worn out and didn't fit the new house. They had a large selection to choose from and lots of it had some environmental cred, like made from FSC certified wood or even reclaimed pallet wood. Lots of smaller furniture makers that I'd never heard of but whose stuff I really liked. The prices were pretty good too. Our sales person, Andreas, was what you hope all sales people are. Very knowledgeable and incredibly willing to print up price and information sheets on just about everything we liked so we could take them home and compare at our leisure and never once tried to get us to look at something we didn't want to or try to make a sale. He really was just there to help us shop. In fact he suggested we go home and think about it over the weekend before we bought anything. So we took the sheets home and compared them to all the other places we'd shopped and couldn't find anything we liked nearly as well so we went back on Monday and when we walked in we noticed that almost all the stuff we wanted was marked down! A lot! We made sure we weren't misunderstanding anything and Andreas said, no, it was a sale that was advertised. Then it hit us. Andreas did us a solid so suavely we didn't even notice. SAAAWEEEEEET!!! We saved a ton, which we immediately spent on other stuff we wanted but didn't think we could afford. Like a dresser for me that is probably not what I should have gotten but fits my personality perfectly. They delivered it in about 3 days and assembled the bed for us, which was nice because it was a bit more complicated than the beds I'm used to. Everything was exactly what we wanted, and the price was really great. Honestly, I don't care if they do sever a few random shoppers' hands. We're definitely going back for living room furniture as soon as I can find some armored gloves that go up to the elbow. read more

Here it is August and Four Hands has no idea still when the items will be available or even if they have them in their distribution center. The furniture is great, but know that if you need absolutely any customer service beyond buying the furniture, you'll be left wanting. I bought a bed from the 4 hands outlet and had no complaints whatsoever. In fact, I love the furniture, and got a steal on it at the warehouse sale they have every few months. I spent about $3500 on 2 beds, coffee table, end tables, a mirror, etc. One of the beds did not have slats and was damaged slightly, mostly cosmetic. When I went to four hands to try and buy the slats and support beam, they told me that because I didn't pay full price for the bed, they couldn't help me. One of the associates actually said the beds were made in Vietnam and they couldn't sell any parts. I don't have a problem with them being made somewhere else, but you're telling me that you can't get a replacement part for a bed you manufacture? I was treated like a second-class citizen just because I went looking for a deal in the warehouse. They repeatedly told me that the reason I got such a good deal was because I bought it at the warehouse and didn't pay full price. Well, I'm quite aware of that...I think thats a good thing! All I wanted to do was pay for the slats and the support beam that goes with this exact bed and I was willing to pay for the replacement parts. I know they have these parts available bc I asked them what happens if I paid full price for the bed and needed a replacement part or if one of the slats was broken in transit. They then said that as long as I paid full price, they could help. What bull***T! Horrible horrible customer service. While I like their furniture, it will take awhile before I ever step foot into their store again. That being said, Cierra at the warehouse outlet is fantastic. Just don't ask the main store for any help whatsoever. read more

Tough decision about how many stars because we had a mixed experience, but the "buyer beware" aspect is more important. In 2007, we bought a dining table, a coffee table and an end table here, as well as 8 leather parson style dining room chairs (they look like what they're calling the "James Dining Chair" now). The tables are very solid and sturdy, and have stood up beautifully. Very good furniture for the money. The leather on the chairs is another story. It began ripping apart in the last year. The more heavily used ones are covered in small tears, but even the ones that are almost never used each have at least one tear in them. You wouldn't have guessed it when we bought them, they didn't look cheap. Ha, and in fact, they weren't cheap! They cost at least $150 apiece, if not more... too much for this to be happening now. I've learned my lesson about Four Hands leather.... and perhaps anything upholstered. read more

Just saw the the pictures Rita R. posted of her peeling leather couch and phew, glad I'm not the only one! My Four Hands leather couch started peeling after about three years and now, five years later it is a huge embarrassment in my living room. I have tried to get replacement cushions from the store, but was told they have no record of me buying it. Well, that's convenient isn't it? Then I was told to email them pictures and never heard back after numerous tries. Most of the furniture in my living room is from Four Hands and it is great, I'm very happy with what we got for the price we paid. The leather couches are garbage, plain and simple. Awesome products. Non-existent customer service. I've asked them 3 times to email me the specs on the furniture we bought (about $2000 worth), and it seems simple enough, but they have yet to send anything. I asked the day of the purchase, she acted like she was about to do it. I followed up the next day, she apologized and said she was just catching up on those kinds of things. Day 3, I emailed them and didn't receive a response. Again, I love what items they carry, but I would be wary of them if their customer service is so lacking - what if something goes wrong, and there's some issue, I imagine I'd be screwed w/ these people. :( Also sucks: if you take a store credit for some reason, the receipt says you only have 6 months to use it. :( what a scam.....why can't they just be fair/kind about it and let you use it when you want something? some reputation they're building. read more

We purchased a two-piece leather sectional from Four Hands about 6 years ago. It was a nice looking set but after a couple of years of relatively light use the cushions started to deform. Worse, the leather started creasing and the surface began flaking off. It now looks completely dilapidated and sheds leather flakes on the floor. I don't expect furniture to last forever but it shouldn't look trashed out this quickly either. Be very careful about the quality of Four Hands furniture. read more

I love this place (although I haven't bought anything from them as I am waiting for the once per quarter sale).. If you are tired of looking at the usual boring household furnishings, you must check this place out. They have 6 foot tall wooden statues from Thailand painted gold (just like the ones I saw at the Grand Palace in Bangkok). The have very unique lamps, interesting furniture, all kinds of stuff from other countries that will stand out amongst you neighbor's boring junk. They seem to specialize in BIG stuff for that wall or nook you don't know what to do with. The shopping atmosphere is outstanding. Lively music, very clean, etc. The only drawback I can see is the price.. Very expensive, so wait for the quarter-end sale. read more

We purchased the same "leather" sectional that the reviewer "rita" posted about with the exact same result. we barely used the sofa for the first couple years we owned it. when we moved and put it in a room that was used and within a year the stuff they called leather just started pealing off. I can't remember what we paid - but it was too much. I wouldn't trust anything they say. I just went online to see if anyone else has had issues and found these yelp reviews with the same problem. ours went to the dump. FYI - We also purchased a restoration hardware leather couch for about the same money that our kids have abused for about 6 years and it has held up just fine. read more

We absolutely love the 4 Hands warehouse sales. We've practically furnished our entire 3500 sq ft home from there. The wood tables (dining, coffee, etc.) and shelves are solid & heavy duty. She loves the lamps & chairs we got there as well. Some stuff are still pricey, but there are many great deals to be had. Beware!!! I used to be a huge fan of this store. My whole house is furnished with their stuff. However like many people, I have a "leather" couch that is peeling. I have been in contact with the quality assurance manager Ms Lawson, and was told that "the couch is a by-cast leather product that is a natural leather hide processed and bonded to a man-made surface covering and then coated with a thick layer of polyurethane. One of the characteristics of by-cast leather is the coating will eventually wear and flaking and peeling will occur. This is a normal characteristic after time on by-cast leather." Basically the couch is in warranty for a year and then too bad for you. I've had mine 5 years and have 2 cushions that have started peeling... Anyway, I am still battling this and would love to hear from anybody who's had this happen. The more people report the problem, the more inclined the store will have to do something. read more

I had heard a lot about this place and reckoned we would be a good fit. I finally stopped by last weekend for their warehouse sale. While it's true I saw a lot of things that were eye candy I still left the sale empty handed and i had intentions to get a new dining room table. Yes I saw a beautiful gong that I liked if I happened to have a spare $6K, but sadly I don't. Regular prices are waaay to expensive for me. Take advantage of their tent sales! We recently drove down to check this place out for a dining table, we have been searching everywhere for something catchy and made well, furniture here certainly is well made. Their tent sale was going on and we ended up finding a table that was originally$1,150 for $435 just because it was a showcase table ! The sales team does not pressure you into purchasing anything which was great! The guys in the warehouse are really nice they helped put everything in our truck and strapped it really well, how do I know it was well strapped? Uh because it made it from south Austin to cedar park ! Next on my list to find is an office desk and I'll be checking here first :) read more

My house is furnished almost entirely from this store. I've purchased pieces from the showroom and the warehouse and I am EXTREMELY happy with everything I've gotten from both. I've purchased a bed, dresser, leather couch, dining room chairs, lamps and may other occasional items from the warehouse sales. Only two of these items had minor issues or defects, but nothing that I would complain about. I got them at a total bargain, so I don't think it's even remotely fair to complain or take issue abut a defect. Obviously when you purchase an item at a WAREHOUSE sale, its just that a WAREHOUSE sale and you shouldn't expect that your buying an item for less then it's worth and receiving a 25year warranty! I think Four Hands is VERY upfront and open about their policies regarding items purchased from those sales, so I find it interesting that people feel they have a right to complain about it. It's a sale people, come on! I would also like to note that when I purchased my bed at the warehouse sale, one of the guys dropped it while trying to load it in my truck and the staff at Four Hands went above and beyond to make sure I was satisfied. I hadn't even gotten it loaded yet, it was from the sale, it was the last of that style in the sale and they STILL REPLACED my bed when their next shipment arrived 6 weeks later. I say this to acknowledge that when it is an error on their end, I find them nothing but HELPFUL. I have also purchased a desk, filing cabinet, side tables and pendent lights from the showroom, all of which I have NEVER had a problem with. The showroom staff are INCREDIBLY helpful and knowledgeable. I've worked with Theresa Yoder and Montana Lee, both of whom are amazing sales people! I will continue to purchase from Four Hands and I'm continually impressed with the variety and quality of furniture they provide to the Austin market. I would challenge anyone to find a showroom in Austin that has the variety, quality or professionalism found at Four Hands. Normally when I find something of that quality or style in the Austin area, it originally came from Four Hands!! read more

I've never written a review before, but I've had such a terrible experience, that I felt inclined to share. If I could have given 0 stars, I would have. I work in the client services industry, and if I lacked the customer service that I've experienced, I would be unemployed. Not only did we have to wait over 4 months for a table, we were consistently given the run around. At the end of the day, you get what you pay for. I recently went into Four Hands Home to get some ideas for redecorating my living room. I went in without any ideas on what I wanted and came out with a clear picture of exactly what I needed. The woman that assisted me was such a wonderful help and had such vision. Never have I gone into a furniture store before where the person was not only a salesman but also had such an eye for design! She showed me so many options and described in detail all the ways I could accessorize and setup up the room. And, as if that help wasn't enough, she even followed up the next day with an email breaking down all my options with pictures. Wonderful!! The furniture is unique, well constructed and truly adds beauty to your home. Tristan is a delight to work with and always so professional, knowledgeable and gives amazing customer service. We recently had to return a piece of furniture because it did not fit our needs for the space we planned to put it. I never expected such a seamless and simple return with no problems. I had an abysmal experience at their garage sale. Items that I had purchased outright, that were unique and one of a kind disappeared between when I paid for them, and when I could pick them up. The temp workers in accounting were downright rude, and the regulars showed no leadership to step in and preserve the customer relationship. It is a garage sale, but at the end of the day you are a retailer trying to keep your good name in Austin, Four Hands. I will NEVER do business with you again, nor will I tell people that I got any of my furniture from you. After complaining to the people in charge about the poor treatment, NO ONE was even slightly apologetic, their egos were too big. As I understand it, the ownership has changed recently... the culture definitely reflects this. This isn't about a few missing articles (and believe me, I heard many people complain about the same thing), but the image, and reputation that the company chooses to uphold. Once they left, I realized that they did some serious damage to my walls. Ugh. And their scotch guard recommendation guy was an odd one. I was in Four Hands a couple of weekends ago just to see what might be new and interesting. I have numerous pieces from this store and just dig em. The selections are eclectic exotic and really fit my taste in style. It seems like some other reviews here question the longevity or quality but my stuff looks great after years of (ab)use. I'm not a big fan of really contemporary design like you find at places such as BoConcept and Four Hands serves my more off-beat style. I bought the "It Takes an Hour" sideboard and two of the doors won't shut again after they're open. The bottom edge of the door comes out and I have to push it into place to be able to shut the door. I love the piece but this is rather annoying. I tried to email a photo and explanation to info@fourhandshome.com and it bounced back. Please advise what can be done for these doors. read more

At first we were happy with the comfort and styling but now we are going to haul it all to the dump. Every piece is peeling so bad that it is embarrassing to have people over.
