I am a designer and ordered the Stevie Sectional for a client of mine in Dallas. Before purchasing I took the client to the Austin showroom to ensure they liked the sectional before buying. Unfortunately, Four Hands shipped us a sectional that was NOTHING LIKE the showroom version. The sectional we received was understuffed, very uncomfrotable and missing several back pillows. I brought this up with Four Hands and they said the Stevie is "hit or miss". They didn't step up to fix things and didn't work with me on a solution. I'm so frustrated with this company - they lack quality and do not stand behind their products. read more

What a disgraceful company; DO NOT BUY FROM THEM. My husband and I purchased a bed from them and within two months the support beam underneath the bed completely snapped while we were reading in bed one night. Up until that point the bed had experienced very light use (we were traveling a lot at the time so sleeping elsewhere many nights). When I called customer service the agents were dismissive, rude, short, and entirely unwilling to help; they would not even provide a quote to replace the support beam. I ended up seeing online later that others had experienced the same issue with their bed and received the same lack of support; so this is not a one-off situation. This company should be ashamed of themselves for the terrible quality in furniture and customer service. I have always enjoyed investing in my home goods and reasoned that as long as the quality is there, the investment is well worth it, but I will never purchase from this brand again and will be advising all others to do the same for their own benefit. read more

Once I wrote the study and wrote the company's CEO, the company did everything possible to address and resolve the concern. I wanted the wood sample to match my bench. The company helped me and sent the wood once it became available, paid for the shipping, and followed up via email and calls. Thank you for helping me! I am now a fan of the company. Oh. My. God. I am in love with this place. I took a bunch of photos so be sure to take a look at the lovelies they have here. What brought me in was a chair I saw at one of the little shops off S. Congress and I had to have it. My friend said it looked like Four Hands and when I turned it upside down to look that's exactly where it came from. Sadly, it is discontinued recently (like within the last 6 months) and I can't find it anywhere. But one of the employees, named Tristan I believe, took me around showing me very similar items and telling me about the current sale they have on some of them. While inside I saw several beautiful things I loved, book cases, dining tables, dining chairs, couches, night stands, lights, lamps, clocks, mirrors, console tables, you name it. It's gorgeous in here. We chatted with Tristan for a while who said Four Hands sells to Restoration Hardware, Pottery Barn, etc. and several other retailers so the style is very similar. But their prices are FAR more reasonable. They won't ship it to you unless you are there in person or have been in recently in person - you can't call and order over the phone because since they distribute to so many other stores they can't compete with their prices unless it's show room bought in Austin... good to know. I'm still searching for those chairs but if I can't find them I can get my friend to get me one of the ones I saw there and have it shipped. Gorgeous, I wish we had one of these here but I'll know where to go in Austin for great stuff next time I'm in town! read more

Spent $3000 purchasing the Brooklyn Dining table from Four Hands who advertises that the table has blended woods and "materials' of natural quality" but what Four Hands DOESN'T tell you is, don't get it wet! The top is a piece of shit veneer, so when wet, water absorbs into the seems and the veneer warps and bubbles (see attached photo). Then, when you call Four Hands for warranty support, you get the proverbial finger. read more

I went into the showroom today in search of a bench for my living room and a king sized bed frame. I had the best experience with both Amy Vickers and Kenneth. They went above and beyond for me. They measured and gave very real opinions and were efficient and organized. Also, a shoutout to a new area of the showroom that is called the open box area. Some excellent pieces at a fraction of retail. Similar to the FH outlet but seemingly most items in a little better shape than what I've found at the outlet. I love shopping locally with FH and it's great to have such top notch service that match the quality of their products. All around excellent and fun day at Four Hands. read more

We went to our first Four Hands warehouse sale this past weekend. Their huge warehouse had all kinds of inventory on clearance, from couches and beds to oversized lamps and Oriental figurines. I felt a little like Ali Baba stepping into his cave of wonders! It seemed like half of Austin passed through at some point; it was that crowded. We found a lovely chocolate coloured leather couch that was going for an extremely good price. Claudette and Aaron came to help us. They were fantastic. Claudette talked about furniture details while Aaron scoured the place for the (missing) attached sofa legs. They worked with us, suggesting similar sofas for comparison until they were sure we were satisfied. Not all the employees were so helpful or well-informed, unfortunately. We talked to a couple and thought that customer service was sorely lacking before we fortunately encountered our ace helpers. Things we learned from Claudette, who was a font of knowledge: * Four Hands holds a warehouse sale once a season. * There are leather couches, and then there are leather couches. Apparently, our leather couch look-alike was featured in the Neiman Marcus catalog for $20,000. (this just boggles my mind!) * If you are interested in a piece of furniture, get a sold ticket written up for it immediately, even if you're not committed to buying. This is so no one else can claim it. * Alternately, if you are interested a piece of furniture that has "sold" on it, don't lose hope. Those "sold" signs can and do get pulled off should someone change their mind. * Get in queue for furniture pick-up with your vehicle as soon as possible. There WILL be a line. read more

The Funky Candelabras, besides being a really great band name, describes only one set of the many wonders you'll find at this Austin area staple. We caught them during one of the big sales that they run this time of year, and the place was awash with some very cool finds that had been slashed (but not burned), often to half price or more. I was reminded at least a little of the Steven Wright bit where he talks about robbing a department store with a pricing gun, but in this case, no one was lifting anything, thought I could have easily ended up with a number of items that would have felt like a steal. Loads of heavy-duty tables, chairs, sofas, bed frames and headboards treaded the line I noted in my review of the other location: refined, yet definitely accessible. Ultimately we decided to wait a little while longer, mostly due to space concerns, but you have to figure that this Four Hands location is doing a little something right by virtue of the almost tireless dedication they seem to bring to showing items that are unique and friendly. And who knows, play your cards right and maybe you'll just find a place for that neon green candelabra yet. read more

Headquartered here in Austin, this interior-design-oriented storehouse of globally-inspired home furnishings would likely arouse even an unenlightened design know-nothing like myself. Four Hands has four stores. Atlanta, Austin, Vegas and High Point, North Carolina (random...). The original locale can be found a bit off the beaten path on Woodward Street (near the convergence of IH-35 and Hwy 290). Beautiful, high-quality furniture of every shape and size. Deep dark woods. Gorgeous fabrics. Modern, contemporary, classy, exotic, new age, old age...a little of everything. I would especially suggest Four Hands if you're in the market for a dining room table, a living room chair, or a large bureau. But none of my rambling is important. What's important is that you attend one of their warehouse sales. Unbelievable. On a normal retail day, Four Hands is pricey for the average consumer. But on a warehouse sale day, it's anyone's game. Get there early and get there quick. Sit, lie or squat on your chosen piece. Don't get up until it's tagged SOLD. I've seen a few cat fights. I like shopping for art decorations. I especially like four hands because other store only has just modern design, four hands has culture in it. They imported arts from Thailand, Indonesia, India, China, France, etc. You can tell they are some exotic things from outside of US. We bought a huge tree root and a 5 feet tall golden vase. They are perfect in our high ceiling house. Also they have quarterly on sale from their storage next to highland mall. More convenient than driving to south. read more

love this place... it's kinda funny because every Austin home I enter, I can recognize Four Hands furniture. Some items can be a little pricier but you're getting hefty furniture (more house, than apartment), and it has a somewhat unique look. They love their reclaimed wood. Yes, this showroom has some beautiful stuff. Yes, the warehouse sale is the time to get it all at better prices. But . . . BUYER BEWARE, apparently those nice looking leather sofas are made from very poor grade leather. I bought a small L-shaped brown leather sofa there in 2004. It fit perfectly in my front living room, didn't get a lot of use, but looked great and was comfy. Then as if there were an expiration date it began to disintegrate. The chocolate brown leather began to peel! Turns out it is just a plastic-y coating over thin leather. My sofa looked like it had a bad sunburn that was blistering and peeling. Then the leather itself began to rip. Yes, rip. Actual holes, small at first, then they spread and spread. Every time you sit on the sofa it would tear a little more. I only weigh about 130, so my small frame can't possible do that much damage. The sofa was never in a room that received bright sunlight. It was kept clean and conditioned. We bought it when they had one of their sofa sales, still, for what we paid we expected it to last a LOT longer. I called recently and spoke to a manager who said they only warranty their sofas for a year, but we could buy new replacement cushions if they still carry that style. We'll be shopping elsewhere for a replacement sofa. read more

YES! YES! YES! You WILL find these sorts of things if and when you get the chance to go to the fantastic Warehouse Sales that happen at least twice a year. I have been to the ones in May and August to find: 1. A solid wood black king sized sleigh bed for $499 2. A vanity chair made of steel with a navy blue seat for $29 3. Tall Bar Stool Chairs made from solid wood, painted black with red cushions (gives me goose-bumps) ranging from $99-$129 per chair 4. Solid wood dining tables with a contemporary flare ranging from $199-$299 (again these are sale prices, hint, hint) 5. Brightly colored modern lamps ranging from $99-$299 6. Quality couches and love seats ranging from $499-$799 7. AMAZING, tall, sturdy, wooden, slender, dressers with multiple uses finished with either red, orange, or a yellow tinted paint for $99-$199 (my friends got the $99 red ones and they are to die for!) They have an Asian/Oriental look to them. Anything you find here will thoroughly embellish your home with a touch of artistic modernism that will REALLY stand out! The quality of these items far exceeds the prices you will pay. Every time I go to these sales, I see people with U-Hauls, large trucks, and extra hands, literally, because people know how good these sales are and they come prepared! So should you! If you are curious about what their items look like, check out the website. Four Hands carries a lot of imports, and the only way I could describe it would be furniture that is a mixture of the Pottery Barn/Pier One/Target/What you see in a Banana Republic/The Bombay Company, if that makes any sense. This is the sort of place that you must make a decision with for your purchases because if you have the mentality of, "oh it will be here when I get back," think again, it will not be. read more

I've hired Four Hands Home to do 2 rooms in my house: the guest room and living room. For both rooms, the design and execution were flawless. I gave Nealie and Shannon a short description of what I was looking for: leaning masculine, nothing overly designed or cluttered, and classic. (I wanted the design to last and not go out of style.) During the design process, they sent over a few options on the big things: sofa in the living room, bed for the guest room, etc. They never overwhelmed me with too many options which I very much appreciated. And they picked the smaller things themselves: nightstands in the guest room, coffee table in the living room, accessories, etc. When their design was complete, they sent over a PowerPoint, gave me a REASONABLE price and set a date to do the install. They organized the movers for me to bring in the new furniture and remove the old. I only had to pay the moving company's invoice. I left my house for the day and they came in and did the install. When I got home, I was blown away by their work. Both rooms looked incredible and were accessorized perfectly. Their attention to detail was also noteworthy; for example, since Four Hands does not offer linens, they sent me a link of what to buy and I came home to a made bed. They understood what I wanted and didn't stray from that or try to upsell me on anything I didn't want. We are doing my bedroom next and will likely end up doing the whole house over time. If you are looking for turnkey service, look no further than Nealie and her team. They're exceptional. read more

The furniture is very cool but overpriced like MOST furniture is these days... the return pollicy is brutally unfair, so be sure the piece fits in your space. If it doesn't work , you'll be sitting on thousands of dollars of "store credit" even if there is nothing in the store you want or need, and even if you return the item a few days after the purchase with the receipt! read more

I feel blessed to live in Austin, TX for many reasons including tacos, parks, music and Four Hands. I'm not really sure of the origin of the name Four Hands. I think it may have something to do with the size of horses by measuring however many hands it takes to get the length of the animal. Which in this case would make for a very small horse. Truthfully, it would be more miniature like a donkey or pony. Probably more like a My Little Pony, but regardless, Four Hands is a furniture store and does NOT sell children's toys, retro or otherwise. You're probably wondering if you can find your style of taste of furniture at Four Hands. The answer is yes, you can. I don't know anybody who has ever gone into this store and not fallen in love with something. The biggest problem is that most people then HAVE to have that something so be prepared to spend some money when you step foot in here. The founder of Four Hands also did the store Z Gallerie so if you like their stuff you will love Four Hands. The time to go and spend your money here of course is during their warehouse sale which they have several times a year (you can check the website or the easiest thing is to just get on their mailing list). Four Hands furniture comes from different parts of the world and many of the items are made from antiques re-fitted onto new furniture so you can get a really cool unique, old/new piece for your home. The prices I think are great, esp because many show rooms will buy the pieces and sell them at a much higher cost. You will love this place--promise!! read more

I've visited Four Hands twice, both during sales. The showroom is gorgeous: everything is impeccably laid out, including the lighting. During my second visit, I did end up buying a dining table for 40% off retail price, but it was still $1,200 after tax. (No matter how big the discount is, the ultimate price you pay is always the more important factor.) However, everything does seem of very high quality and not mass produced so that every household has the same furniture. I was looking for something that fit those two criteria, and I got just what I wanted. I'll just have to compensate for my big expenditure by cutting out other expenses in the near future. The staff still seemed kind and patient even though a steady stream of customers and window shoppers were flowing through the store. My thanks go out to them for making my first purchase as painless as possible. The verdict: I won't shop here often since the prices are still rather high, but if there's something that draws me (the moth) to the flame, I'll cave and shell out the cash. read more

Wait, make that ALL of the furniture in these areas. Customer service is excellent, and the Warehouse Sale is da bomb. Super cool stuff - super great buys. We had an issue with our leather sofa and chair awhile back...the seat cushions went flat like a tire on a bed of nails. We called, they replaced the cushions, no problem at all. Granted, we did have to wait awhile before new ones came in, but it was no biggie. I would suggest perusing the show room, then check out the sale sometime. You'll probably see me there... read more

Nice stuff, in primarily a designer-oriented showroom. They supply pieces to other furniture stores in town, so some lines may look familiar. Their selection is not crazy bachelor pad stuff like YLR; it is more sensible--largely sturdy black/mocha pieces. I hate to say it, but: not unlike Crate and Barrel. The distinguishing features are: - The accent items (rugs, lamps, objects) are very nice. - It is not Crate and Barrel. People will know your Ikea/C&B furniture from a well-thumbed catalog. Is that bad? No, but it is nice to have something less mainstream at a reasonable price. - And...the real reason I like Four Hands: they have warehouse sales a few times a year that are AMAZING. HUGE tents, with samples and other stuff never seen in the showroom; big discounts for tiny scratches. If you have a certain table or couch in mind, go on opening day and grab it. Larger discounts are added on later days of the sale. Know the dimensions of the spaces you want to fill, because things will be gone if you go home to measure. NB - If you are going south on I-35, beware missing the exit due to the new 35/71 interchange. It is a long way until you can make a U-turn. read more

I've bought and sold so many pieces from this place, it's sick. Great designs and solid craftsmanship- and I always get a great resale price. If I remember correctly, they find pieces in little villages throughout india, middle east, africa, asia, bring 'em back to Austin for measurements, pictures and get their 'factories' crankin' on replicas. All their furniture runs on the large size (and heavy) so not exactly designed for downtown lofts, but there certainly are some 'compact' pieces. Prices are on the high side, but based on the "character" aspect of their stuff, feel it's worth it. The real draw of this place is the warehouse sale which happens every few months - it's so popular, you'll start to see their furniture in other local furniture stores the next week (I mean of course, those stores that don't already use them as a supplier). read more

UPDATE- Two months since my last post and still no table. We received a call last month that it was shipped/in transit. Still nothing. I have increased the star rating by one... not because our client service has been any better, but because we were able to purchase a matching table for another room due to the fact that it was in the warehouse. We were able to pick it up that day. The ONLY reason i would buy from them ever again was if the furniture was substantially cheaper than another store and ONLY if it was in stock and able to pick up that day. Otherwise, they have NO IDEA when the furniture will actually get to you. BTW: Thomas Bina is owned by Four Hands. So if they blame the manufacturer (in our case, Thomas Bina), they are blaming themselves. You would think they would be upfront with this, but they are not. read more
