Been wanting to try pie here since my last Brooklyn visit based on reviews and recommendations, so I was excited to try it out. I got a lemon pie and a black bottom oatmeal with chocolate ganache (can't remember their names exactly). Took them to go -- very tasty! Very sweet, but great with coffee or tea to help balance the sugar. I was surprised their pies and slices weren't on display right up front where you order since they are the stars of the show. Luckily one of the employees described the available pies, which I appreciated because they specialize in creative, non-traditional pies. None were the much talked about salted caramel apple or the apparently legendary matcha pie, but I guess that what will get me to come back again, and I got to try two slices that I might not have otherwise. The shop is small but with several tables. Very casual and plain (I might honestly go so far as to say a bit scruffy), catering more to carryout business I suppose. A cute little cafe at the corner of the block where you can grab a sweet treat and perhaps read a book or do your work. I needed to kill some time and this was a great spot to do so. It's not too loud inside and they have some interesting pie flavors. I went with their chamomile buttermilk since they said they would be taking it off the menu and it wasn't too sweet. Rather, it was a bit tangy. I don't know if I could really taste the chamomile however. I always like the crust of a pie more and I enjoyed this one! Upon coming into the shop it wasn't very welcoming.. The ambiance in the store was gloomy and the vibe wasn't very pleasant. However i didn't judge since people maybe go here for work purposes! The pies were sitting out uncovered and dry looking. I didn't want to try the pie for that reason and the menu was a little confusing to find. I ordered a coffee to my liking with half & half and hazelnut. The cashier taking me order assured me they had Splenda.. but it wasn't Splenda. I finally took a sip of my coffee and it was horrible. The coffee tasted burnt and it was a strong taste of burnt. I tried to bare it for a third sip but i had to throw it away. Overall i was disappointed and i wouldn't recommend this place. Came here for the first time at 5pm on a Tuesday. Very lack luster customer service. We tried all the pies they had and the only one we really liked was the apple pie. My brother and I traveled from a healthy distance just to try this pie. I had been watching their social media posts for years - they do a great job of advertising their goods there. I never made the jump to come to the store because their pies are really expensive and I didn't think it'd actually be worth what they charge. First - when we got into the store the other guests stopped to stare at us as we entered. The vibe was so weird - it was like we had walked into a library and disturbed their peace. The woman at the counter was sweeping the floor when we entered. She said hello without looking up from her sweeping. I was excited and let her know it was our first time there - she didn't respond, just kept sweeping without looking up. Behind her was a table with a few pies cut into slices - no labels or anything. I asked her "what do you have?" because I couldn't tell what was what. She pointed to the chalkboard above without stopping her sweeping or even looking at us. Again - really weird vibes. We weren't sure if she was just tired, but she was giving bored Cinderella. My brother just let her know to please give us once slice of each pie. She finally stopped sweeping and prepared our order. She asked us if we needed utensils, but then failed to put them in our bag. We took our pies to go and tried them in the car. The salty honey made me gag. I had to spit it out. Not my thing - it tasted like salty corn syrup. My brother thought it was ok. My brother really hated the chocolate chess pie - he went as far as to say that he thinks this is how that pie from The Help tasted.. enough said. The lemon chess was ok. The taste was there but was very loose and didn't hold its shape. It was almost like pudding. The apple pie tasted really good and was the best of the bunch, but also nothing really special about it. The Salted Caramel Apple was the one I was most looking forward to, but it was actually my least favorite. The other slices of pie I enjoyed. The apple cranberry was amazing - loved the crust & crunchy topping - plus the filling had juicy whole cranberries and wasn't too sweet. The legendary matcha custard pie was also delicious. I think most of their pies are custard pies - and only the apple pies are actually traditional pies? The custard pie just tasted like larger versions of egg tarts or cheesecake tarts. (similar to pumpkin pie texture). I don't know why but for some reason in my head I was expecting textured fillings when I heard it's a pie shop. I like the match one but the salted honey was insanely sweet. Will need to come back to try the apple pie but I thought their custard pies were delicious but nothing special. One of the only places in the city with an actually good pi day deal, 3 slices for $14. Tried the lavender honey, chocolate chess, and brown butter apple streusel. Unfortunately, all of the pies were too sweet. The crusts were also borderline stale. The crust bottoms soaked up all the moisture of the fillings, so they were soggy and difficult to break apart. The lavender honey had a faint taste of lavender which I preferred as it wasn't overwhelming. Chocolate chess was dense and reminded my of chocolate pudding cups. I liked the crumble on the brown butter apple streusel, but I wanted more spices and brown butter flavor with the pie. They have rotating slices daily. I was advised to call in to check on the offerings for the day. Normally, they're $6 a slice. The matcha custard and coffee custard, the ones I wanted to try weren't available as slices that day. This review is for the salty honey slice, so that the owners never stop making it. DELICIOUS! I do agree that the custard slices here are a bit sweet but I think this is by design; when you cut back on the sugar in a custard it becomes a bit eggy and you don't want that to be the dominant flavor. I think the other flavors in the pies here are strong enough that the bakers could experiment with less sugar, but again that's just a matter of preference. What I can say with 100% certainty is that it's the best pie anywhere near here and that's enough for me to happily give them 5 stars. Service is also extremely friendly and the space is open. The pies are really great, that's for sure. Whether it's an apple-based pie slice, or one of the chess pies, or Salty Honey, etc., these pies do not disappoint. I most recently tried the Lavender Honey (just for something different) and it was amazingly good. You can definitely have favorites here but it's always good to try something new because it might end up becoming a new favorite. I've been in here a few times on weekdays and if you don't want to get pie there is usually something else good to eat for breakfast/lunch/snack, whether it's a scone or something savory. I'm sure the earlier you come is the better, but so far I've always been able to find something. And the staff is really nice and if you get coffee to stay, they offer free refills. (They brew Variety Coffee, which is decent) Sitting inside there is a nice peaceful vibe - I usually like to come in if I'm working on writing on my laptop but I see a lot of people come in with a friend or two to eat & chat.
