Went here a year ago or so and totally forgot to leave a review. We popped in for happy hour and had a couple cocktails and some meatballs. Decor had all the making of a fancy lounge. Loved it. I've read other reviews and find it disheartening that the only response from the manager for complaints is "come again". I didn't like my hamburger or cesar salad but decided not to complain. I hate to do this, but it has to be done...I am trying to be extra patient these days as most restaurants are struggling to come back from covid related shut downs and from a shortage of qualified staff. We are loyal patrons of this restaurant, so I waited until we had a third consecutive disappointing experience before revising this review. Each of these instances occurred within the last month. The reservation system is frustrating. 3x now, we have made reservations specifically requesting indoor, standard seating. 3x now we have been redirected to whatever seating is available, but it's never what we initially requested. Not the end of the world, but not what we had in mind when we made our plans. 3x now, service has started off being great, then is non-existent. Plenty of bus staff helping to bring out food, but our actual server is MIA after our order is taken. We have to wave someone over just to get water. This last time, our deep dish pizza was our only entree (shared by my husband and I, and we had an appetizer and salads) and it took a very long time to arrive at our table (understandable as it is an item that takes a long time to bake) but when it did arrive, it was stone cold in the middle and lukewarm on the outer edges. The cheese was not even melted. We ended up asking for the check and re-baking it at home. Our server never asked if we wanted more drinks, which is a money maker for these places and would have made the exceedingly long wait more tolerable. On our Thanksgiving dinner, two of the turkey plates were served without stuffing/dressing. When they were sent back for completion, they arrived with the burnt, dried dregs of dressing, in tiny little piles. Clearly, they had run out. The turkey was dry and tasteless and overcooked. Also very disappointing was that Fortun's did not offer a single vegetarian entree or even a side dish other than salad. We had one person in our party who has Crohn's and could not eat any meat products. I called ahead to discuss this with the manager, and she said they could make her a larger portion of the risotto that comes with the swordfish, as a main dish. Great, except the risotto was not cooked - the rice was so crunchy it couldn't be chewed. Some of the premium spirits they used to have are now not available (Russian Jewel vodka being the best one!) which is sad because they used to make an awesome martini here. We have tried all of the desserts and they are not good. They are along the lines of a Vegas buffet quality. We used to get awesome desserts here. The staff is very nice, it just seems like they are going through something that I hope they can work out. We want to return to having Fortun's be one of our regular spots. read more

I have mixed feelings about this place. The food is actually quite good but the ambiance and staff leave much to be desired. The hostess staff in particular could use some work. They are less than accommodating and can come across as standoffish. As an example, I asked for a seating accommodation for someone that had recently had surgery and the hostess suggested I rearrange the table/seat myself (all while she stood there doing nothing). Service can be slow but they're also fairly busy so I'm sensitive to that. I would go back because of the good food but less likely to recommend it to others because of the hostess/wait staff. There are many different seating areas at Fortuns - out front or outside with high tables or low tables, inside near the bar or the opposite side there is a rotisserie and pizza oven. I love sitting in the center at the high tables especially when the sky light is open. There are plenty of televisions for the sports enthusiasts, a wonderful happy hour menu from 3-7, and prepared sauces for purchase in a refrigerated display next to the hostess station. The French onion soup, clam chowder, and chicken pot pie are warming. The Thai chicken salad with mango is loaded with vegetables and light on noodles. The Rigatoni with Italian sausage is amazing, you can not go wrong with the Pizza Di Parma, or the coconut cream pie! You may recall this location as desert sage but, the remodel reveals an airy, bright, and open space. The bar area used to feel like a cave and now you can look out the windows at a gorgeous mountainscape. Located next to the Crab Pot and Casa Mendoza is right behind if the wait is too long! read more

The patio is very nice with lots of heaters so it is a pleasant place to dine. The inside is a little loud. They have their own parking lot and that is convenient since finding parking in Old Town can be a challenge. The food is good and the service was great. A good evening. read more

Made a reservation for four people in regular seating. Three hours before the reservation they called and told me we were getting seated outside. Poorly run business. They advertise that they are open for takeaway. Spent time selecting an options from the menu for 2 people, call to place order and they say "oh we're not taking orders over the phone we're busy". Also they have deceptive pricing. Note that a fee for nothing of 4% will be added to your bill. They should just honestly and transparently price their menu items. read more

Food was decent, prices fair but they charged a 4% credit card surcharge. When asked if the surcharge would be waived if we paid cash, the manager told us "no", that we would be charged the same credit card surcharge regardless of if we paid by cash or credit card. Made no sense to me or to anyone in my dinner party. We complained about paying a credit card service charge when not using a credit card and was basically told, "too bad, that's how it is." If it were my business and a customer complained about paying a credit card surcharge for paying cash, I would waive the surcharge. You have lost my business. A note: If you are going to charge a surcharge regardless, call it a food cost increase surcharge; we all understand that food prices have risen and you can't change menu prices every week. But don't call it a cc surcharge if paying by cash and certainly not 4%. You insult my intelligence. read more

Had high hopes, but was a big let down. Went here on a Tuesday night at 6:00. Waited 15 minutes to be seated at a table that was open when we arrived. Were excited to partake in the happy hour menu that was posted on the menu board and advertised outside the restaurant. Took the waitress a few minutes to come take our drink order, which wasn't her fault as it looked like she was one of two waiters taking care of the entire patio, which probably had upwards of 60 people on it.... only to be advised that happy hour only applies to certain parts of the restaurant...which apparently we were not in? This wasn't mentioned anywhere on the menu board outside the restaurant. Sensing a slow service, we put our food and drink orders in together right away. Drinks took about 15 minutes to arrive... but at least I got a child's sized beer for my $7 (see pic) Waitress came back about 30 minutes after we ordered to tell us their lettuce had been recalled and we couldn't get the salad we ordered. Shouldn't this have been discussed prior to dinner service so the wait staff could let people know that this was unavailable.. not sure what management is doing (other than standing at the hostess stand all night). Anyway, we switched our salad for macaroni and cheese and were assured it would be out in 10 minutes or so. 25 minutes later, now almost an hour into the process, we received our pepperoni pizza (which was actually pretty good), and our macaroni (which was a sad excuse for mac; see pic). Macaroni had half melted cheese on top and tasted of butter otherwise.. no rich, creamy sauce or bubbling cheese that you'd hope for. 1/10. We asked for the check right away, scarfed our food down and left. Overall a very disappointing experience for a nice looking restaurant with a good looking menu. Management has some work to do here, does not seem to be run very well at all. There were many other upset guests complaining of the same thing. read more

Had a great Easter Brunch today! The menu had a nice mix of breakfast items and lunch choices, along with some limited time specials. Holidays are not always the best experience at a restaurant, but today was perfect. We each had a glass of sparkling to start. My husband had the Pulled Pork Hash with poached eggs and I had Eggs Benedict and we enjoyed Bloody Mary's with the meal. Food was excellent, perfect portion size. Our server Matthew was terrific, checked in several times and the restaurant was busy. The manager also stopped by to make sure all was well. Please take the time to get the Whiskey Sour if you have an appreciation for egg whites in a cocktail it's phenomenal! Daniela has been my waitress here both times and she is very attentive! Great place for dinner, drinks and watching sports in the bar! Sat at the bar, it was our first time at Fortuns. We had the happy hour drinks and they were good. Lemon drops were $7 and Moscow mules were $8 and we ordered some happy hour food as well. The pork belly lollipops were good, the fried chicken sandwich was excellent and the pizza was good. The staff was friendly and the two bartenders (Kelly and Alex) were very fast and attentive! Only reason I gave 4 stars was the price of everything. It's expensive if you're not on happy hour prices. Usually I wouldn't leave this horrible of a review for a place we love but tonight was as unacceptable as it gets. We made a 4:15 reservation for their advertised three course meal served between 4-5. Took them 15 minutes of discussion to tell us yes they will serve that. We ordered at 4:30, got our salads at 5:15, dinner at 6:00 after our waitress, Laura, said "you haven't gotten your dinner yet?". Got the dinners at 6:20 over two hours since we arrived. Had a talk with the manager and he took off the bottle of wine we had and said our deserts would be right out. They brought out two of the same which was incorrect and the check. I said I'm not signing for anything until the correct dessert came. Laura stated the kitchen said there are no grapes. I ordered strawberries and cream. Grapes? . After 15 minutes I signed with no tip and my friend left $2. Laura said everyone is new but we're two weeks away from the start of their season and from a wine event their having and we have paid for five reservations that we will now be cancelling. read more

Excited to experience this restaurant but besides the building itself, it EH. Hostess staff is blah and unfriendly. I was hopeful that once the server arrived that feeling would change but it didn't. Pizza was decent but the surcharge of 4% is stupid. It was explained to me that it is to cover their POS (point of sale) system and credit card fees. I'm sorry but after paying for the food, sales tax and this fee, I won't be returning. It's simply not that special. Very subpar. Great place to have dinner in the bar as a walk in; the owner is super nice and the chef is talented. Might be the nicest restaurant in Old Town La Quinta, especially if there's open seating on the rooftop deck. The deserts, cocktails, and assorted white fish specials with mashed potatoes in a burnaise sauce have been my go to this year! Might try the BBQ ribs next time! read more

We have been to Fortun's multiple times, which were very positive. Unfortunately this time, the food was substandard. The Burnt ends were 50% fat, more jello like than burnt ends. The Beef Stroganoff was similar... Service was great. So overall a disappointing visit - they have previously done much better! Hope they are listening! read more

Great food and service. Just did not like the additional 4% service fee at the bottom of the menu, if prices need to be 4% higher, add them to the price of the food when you print the menu. We don't know what happened here ., Food use to be top notch . Everything was good . We recommended many people here . On Monday 24th we had reservations with out brother in law and his fiancé. Terrible slow service . They waited an hour for 2 glasses of water . We asked 3 different people . Service was so slow. Pizza burnt .salad had too much dressing . Horrible. My husbands short ribs was a portion for a small child . One dab of mash potatoes. We use to split that meal !!! So disappointed with the food quality Also, now and the slow service. This is a difficult review to write, and I do so only because our attempts to have our recent experience addressed by the manager on site were rudely rebuffed. First, though the restaurant was at best half-full, we were given truly the worst table in the place, right by the kitchen. (Foreshadowing: this will turn out to be an interesting factor in the rest of our experience...) Our server was clearly new and was being shadowed by another server, which was great and appropriate. They were both quite nice, though after we placed our order (2 pizzas and a burger) the new server had to come back to verify one of the pizzas - better then than later, right? Well..... I was looking straight into the kitchen from my seat, and saw a burger placed under a heat lamp about 5 minutes after our order was placed. (uh-oh) About 15 minutes after that, our server arrived with ONE of the 2 pizzas we ordered, and the other server gave me the burger that had sat under the heat lamp for 20 minutes. Seriously?!? I said "nope, I watched that burger sit there for 20 minutes and I'm not going to accept it" - especially not for almost $20! They re-made my burger and fries in about 5 minutes and brought it out fresh and hot. The server explained that the other pizza had been "forgotten" (though it was unclear where the mistake happened) and would be out shortly. 15 minutes after THAT the second pizza finally appeared, just about the time the rest of us finished our food. The primary server never came back to ask how things were, nor apologize for the mistake. 15 minutes after that, I had to flag down another server to get our check, as our server was again MIA. To our shock, no accommodation was offered for any of the mis-steps. I complained to the server who'd been helpful, and that person addressed the issue with the manager. The manager eventually brought our check back, with a "Locals" discount of about $6.00. Seriously?!?! After a virtual comedy of errors and truly terrible service from our primary server?? In addition, the manager was wearing the type of clear plastic face shield that offers exactly zero true protection, despite the fact that every other employee was appropriately masked. The manager never addressed our issue directly - she only explained that she'd been busy with other tables and so couldn't come help us, though she indicated that she knew what was transpiring... Wow. By way of contrast, when we had a similar experience at another restaurant, the manager came over and comped the entire meal, apologizing for our experience and asking for us to give them another chance... We had no expectations of a comped meal, but maybe AT LEAST comp the $22 pizza that was forgotten and arrived 25 minutes late?!?! It's a shame, because the food (when it arrived) was tasty, and the restaurant's vibe is quite appealing. Bottom line: though we are locals and like the food, I can't see us returning until the place is being run by a professional who understands business and customer service. Every restaurant will have an off night or poor experience now and then - the key is taking ownership of the situation and addressing it appropriately. Fortun's failed miserably in this instance. Edited to add: Hard as it may be to believe, I initially left out the ugliest part of our experience. I subsequently reached out to the "Business Owner" who responded to my review to offer to share those details with her, since I'd hoped to save them the embarrassment. She did not reply, which tells me that she doesn't care, so here goes: Multiple servers told us that they'd been complaining to the manager about the way the restaurant was operating, but that she had failed to do anything to try to improve things. They said they felt "abandoned" by the manager, and that they were very sorry for the way our visit went, but that it seemed that they were powerless to make any changes. This all aligns nicely with the way the manager treated us, so it comes as no surprise in retrospect. As for the way we spoke to this manager, it's true that we told her she had written off a customer (us) for her lack of proper handling of the situation, and that we found her incompetent. That's what she is, and it's clearly not just our view, based on not only her own crew's comments but also on the other less-than-stellar reviews that have been posted. The really sad thing about all of this is that the business owner seems to have the same attitude. I guess to them it's worth writing off thousands of dollars of potential future business (from us) over a $22 pizza rather than to handle their failings professionally. Our first visit was good enough that everyone in our family said it was one of our new favorites in the area, and that's why we went back. The second visit was an unmitigated disaster. read more

Fortun's has vaulted past Enzo's on my Old Town dining favs. Free range chicken - amazing. Scottish salmon - also wonderful. Most of all their veggies are cooked properly so the sweetness comes through. Manager Deena and receptionist Maranda are just too wonderful and accommodating. The short ribs were a bit disappointing with little flavor but will try again as their kitchen is good and responsive to feedback. You will love Fortun's. read more

We have been going to Fortun's since they opened. While they remained open during Covid, I feel it was the beginning of their downward trend. Prices increased substantially, which was expected during the inflation period. However, the last straw was the addition of 4% "service charge" to each check. Had dinner here on my birthday and I was very eager to try the pizza. I ordered the pizza and our server mentioned that the pizza oven was not working so I proceeded to order the chicken pot pie which was okay but I had my heart set on the pizza. My husband ordered the beef stroganoff which he would not order again since it was too rich. This restaurant must be doing something right since it was crowded that evening. Lovely patio. Food portions were super small Vs the price, even for this area. I would say the quality/taste of the food was uneven at best. My wedge and pot pie were very good, but so small for $15 and $23 respectively. Meatballs were super spicy. 'Entree' salad was very small. I guess they can't respond to the truth. Looks like they are temporarily closed. Fortune's is one of our go-to places in the La Quinta area. Except for right after their opening, service has been quite good. It can be quite noisy in the bar area but they do have some pleasant covered outdoor seating. The pizzas are quite good while I particularly like the salmon (pictured.) I was tempted to knock off a star because they had dropped the teriyaki bits from the appetizer menu (presumably for the summer) leaving nothing that either my wife or I would like -- but I didn't. read more

Fortun's Kitchen, Oh how I love thee. Where to begin? Firstly, the frozen bar is amazing and the cocktails are so yummy so if you just want drinks it's great for that. However, the food is delish. Best pizza in the area, one of the only places you can find to do a proper Chicago style deep dish. Steaks are fabulous, great salads. They have changing specials so there is always something new. They work best with the bar height tables vs a typical backless swivel stool. Menu has a wide selection!! Starters include fried artichokes, wagyu meatballs and calamari but I like the 10-hour smoked brisket burnt ends that are full of flavor and paired with perfect corn bread and slaw ($19.95). Several salads ($13-$20) with an option to add salmon, chicken, steak or shrimp. Too hot for soup right now but they have chowder, French onion and soup of the day. Burgers and sandwiches from $20. Brick oven pizza from $20 look really good. Something for next time. Fine dining entrees from $28 including fennel sausage rigatoni, beef stroganoff, petrale sole, salmon and braised short ribs. I hope the owner reads this 3 of us went there after golf it was 255pm open signs on sidewalk front door open we walk in and they acted like we were intruding now we're the only ones there we go to the bar and bartender says they are not open yet and or ready to serve by this time it's 3pm I ask can we get drinks and food he said okay on drinks but not ready for food service now it's 315pm okay so now we want to move to a high top with chairs with backs we just came off golf course in heat and wanted comfortable chairs immediately the hostess said no no one was there to serve us and again it's 320pm we're the only ones there so at that point we said enough and went to enzos where we were treated like royalty read more

My family had Thanksgiving dinner here last evening. There was a full house, but we had a reservation so no problem. We showed up early and they were even kind enough to seat us early and at the table we requested on the patio. On account of laziness I won't get too specific about food, but the meal was very nice. I especially liked the French onion soup, my sweet potatoes and the chocolate/espresso cake. Our server Daniela was extremely busy, yet she never let on and we thoroughly enjoyed her and her service.
