I really liked Forthright. We had reservations early in the morning which included cocktails. We were on vacation after all. I wasn't feeling the mimosas, so just asked for coffee with khalua. Our waitress was really cool and brought me coffe w/a shot of khalua so I could control the alcohol myself. Little did she know that she was dealing with a professional. LOL. But she didn't pass judgement on me, just kept them coming. LOL! The food was really good. I ordered the steak and eggs special w/potatoes and hollandaise sauce. OMG...the steak was cooked perfectly and had great seasoning. Even though I ordered my eggs scrambled well done, they were still a little too wet for me. But the potatoes were really good. They were nice and salty, which is what I liked. They went perfectly with the steak and eggs. Usually I have to add salt to them. I was pretty impressed with the hollandaise sauce. Don't understand why this place has a 4 rating. Don't think i would ever come back again. One of the worst brunch restaurants in Austin, primarily due to bad seating mechanism and unfriendly service. We had a party of 3 and was told 40mins waiting, while we were seeing there were multiple empty tables inside and outside. We ordered coffee for our wait. We waited 20mins for coffee and went to check. The hostess told us - "we will bring your coffee to you when it's ready. " "We have waited for 20mins." "We have 100 people waiting for their coffee." Don't think they value customer experience. We waited for close to 1 hr for our table, while those empty tables continued to be empty. They kept on telling us "we will let you know when your table is ready". "But they are so many empty tables." "We need to sort out the waiting list." "How much longer do we need to wait?" "We will let you know." We had a party of 3. There were two 4-seat table outside which were never seated throughout our whole waiting time. Drinks were underwhelming and full and food is mediocre. I ordered toaster with poached eggs - eggs were overcooked and there is no garlic spread on the toast. Definitely not worth the long wait. Overpriced as well. I visited Forthright a while ago for coffee and a pastry and enjoyed the experience. I meant to come back sooner to try their breakfast but since I'm not a morning person, these events are a bit difficult to coordinate. This morning however I'm glad I climbed out of bed early, as it turned out to be the best breakfast experience I've had in Austin! My husband and I kicked off the day with a latte and a chai. Both were excellent, among the best in the city. Their food menu proved to be a challenge, mostly because every single item listed seemed delicious. We went for the avocado on toast with two poached eggs, and the buttermilk waffles. I expected good food. Forthright still managed to exceed my expectations. I declare Forthright's waffle to be the best in Austin! Topped with fresh fruits, served with real maple syrup and salted caramel butter, their waffle is what every other waffle in the city aspires to be when it grows up. It is, in my humble opinion, perfect. I wouldn't change a single thing. The toast was covered in a mountain of fresh mashed avocado, topped with two poached eggs, chili flakes and nuts. The whole thing was great, from the bread to the runny yolk. Forthright also has location and a nice view going for it. At the heart of downtown and accessible from Cesar Chavez and Brazos, it's right by the river and it features a large patio. The place is nicely decorated and the staff is professional and friendly. We definitely ordered too much... the waffle assortment appetizer is NOT small, but no complaints here. We tried the waffles, drip coffee, breakfast sandwich, and burger at the recommendation of our server. All were incredible, and perfectly cooked. Service was very attentive and super friendly! I adore the vibe of this place: bright, airy, and simplistic. The food presentation is fantastic and service is warm and friendly. To start things off, I think I've found my new favorite breakfast drink: the Golden Milk Latte (steamed mik with turmeric-- SO good) made with the in-house cashew milk. My avocado toast was pretty good; the toast was grainy and flavorful, I'm pretty sure I ate an entire avocado and poached eggs topped it off. I felt that it was lacking some flavor though (perhaps the eggs/avocado could use more spice). I also tried the Quinoa Brulee, essentially a porridge with a bit of brown sugar sauce, walnuts, and caramelized bananas. Definitely simple but satisfying, although I would have liked it to be a bit more creamy. Another note: our food arrived before our drinks since the food was ready pretty quickly. Our server was incredibly apologetic about it and gave us one of the lattes for free, so I didn't find it to be a huge deal. Amazing service and environment! Perfect downtown brunch. I had the wild mushroom toast, and it was delicious and devoured. I'm a picky matcha drinker, and they have the best matcha I've had at a restaurant. And they have oatmilk! My hubby had the the pastrami hash and raved about it! I was attending a Armstrong McCall hair show and had arrived very early on Monday morning and couldn't find anything open downtown. So, I went to my trusty Yelp app and found this little gem. Amazing food. It is a pretty small little place and enjoying siting with strangers is a plus. There are several tables but there are some tables with benches that are almost family style. In better weather seating outside is available. The food was stunning and the flavors classic. I had a breakfast bowl and the portion was perfect for a light breakfast. I enjoyed watching the business men and women from the offices located in the building come in for pastries, coffee, and to go orders. It's a little difficult to locate in an office building without great signage but trust me it's worth the trouble. 5.0! Finally had brunch at Forthright a few weeks ago and I was blown away. The eggs benedict sub the pork belly out for fried chicken was ridiculous. The chef came out from the kitchen and shared with us that he tried out a new way of cooking the chicken - sous vide - and it was so tender, perfectly cooked and went very well with the eggs and muffin. I'll preface this is more about the service than food, although the food looks better than it is. Service: The hostess was great, short wait and we got sat at the end of the bar. Nice spot and decor, modern and chill vibe. Menus are accessed by QR code although that code is only available outside at the door and host table. None at the table which doesn't really make sense but ok. Ordered coffee and then ordered the avocado toast and American breakfast ( should've been called cold breakfast). Coffees came out 10min but the food took forever. Forever meaning that a group next to us sat down 10min later, ordered, ate, paid and was about to leave...then our food came out. We had to ask the waitress to check when to be honest, she could see our status since she walked by us about a dozen times. A simple, "hey sorry we're slammed and your order is next" or "sorry it's taking so long". She wasn't super helpful or nice about it. When the food did come out it was cold af. I mean how tf do you have cold poached eggs and cold bacon? The plating is definitely IG worthy and if it was warm it'd probably taste awesome. Sadly they lose a lot of points. Nothing wrong with the service or their outdoor seating. The issue was just the pork belly hash. When I think of hash I think of a small cubed sweet potato and the sweetness coming from that. But they put a very generous amount of "spicy" maple syrup on the whole dish of huge potatoes and Brussels sprouts. Huge miss for me. I wanted savory meat and potatoes but got a very overly sweet dish instead. Wife said her pork belly Benedict was rubbery and under seasoned.
