We need more of these small independently owned market/grocery stores in every town across the US. Certainly Safeway, Albertsons and so many other large chains have fit the needs for grocery shopping, but in smaller towns this type of establishment should exist and thrive. What a delightful market this is, a must stop during any road trip up this way. You can get nearly anything you'd ever need from toothpaste, milk, cheese, chips, detergent, on and on... they even have two gas pumps. They sell ice too. There's a small cafe serving incredibly good things, including hand made sandwiches (we had a 'Rocketman' and an 'Architect'... being an Architect I loved being so honored!). Both sandwiches were utterly fresh, delicious and tasty. They have several specialty type sandwiches, as were these two, or you may customize one. They sell coffees and other drinks too. There's a bar type set up and a cozy back area for sitting to eat, plus some outdoor places too. The store is simple, rustic but ever so comfortable, organized and clean. The people working here are upbeat and friendly and you feel so welcomed, and utterly pleased you came in to get something. Great place for a drink, snack or basic groceries and product. I'm up near Fort Ross a few times a year and Fort Ross Store is my go-to for lunch. They have a simple but decent sandwich menu along with a wide array of drinks and snacks for the road. In addition to a few inside tables, they also offer some outdoor seating with ocean views. Their portions are generous and a simple veggie sandwich is stacked with fresh produce. Once in a while they also offer some hearty Mac n Cheese. If you're up that way in the morning, there's also some breakfast sandwiches and various coffees. Staff is very nice and food is made quick. It's a popular and convenient stop along the coast just north of Fort Ross State Park, before you hit Timber Cove and Salt Point. I always make a point to stop here when traveling this lovely stretch of Hwy 1. read more

Fort Ross Store & Deli make great sandwiches, and their customer service is great too. We had a wedding event just up the road and needed 45 sandwiches to go, prepared for a Sunday afternoon in April. We emailed a couple weeks ahead, with final details ironed out the week of. We coordinated with Kelsey, the store general manager. We had 3 types of sandwiches made, paid for over the phone, and sent an event coordinator to pick them up. They sent brown bags containing condiments for the sandwiches since we asked for them dry. Every sandwich was clearly labeled with its type. I would do this again, and you should too. read more

Overall, this hit the spot we split this sandwich and had a bowl of the soup with a pint of cider that was only seven dollars. The sandwich was 15. The soup was six dollars heck of a deal for food and any options since there isn't a store for quite some time on Highway one highly recommend definitely stopping in even the gas is just over five dollars a gallon read more

Delicious sandwiches, kind staff, has a nice vibe. We stopped here on our way back from Sea Ranch. There were a bunch of folks hanging out in the parking lot, seemed like a meeting place for travelers and locals. They have a ton of seating options. I highly recommend the BLT with the bacon jam and the Reuben. Lots of local ingredients. Only challenge is it can be quite slow (it's a tiny place) and while we were there we heard them run out of multiple ingredients. read more

This place is great. A few aisles of groceries, good beer selection, firewood, great sandwiches, with espresso and beers on tap. Small indoor dining space and some tables around the back. The gas pumps are the oldest I've seen in a while, with the numbers on little spinning wheels. Porta-potties for customers, so that's not amazing, but adequate. We stopped here for lunch and were pleasantly surprised at the huge selection of items they had. The staff were all very friendly! They have premade sandwiches or you can have your own made. I had the Vegan Vibe and it was delicious! They give you a buzzer that goes off when your sandwich is ready and you simply drop the buzzer off in the basket afterwards. They have an indoor and outdoor area. The indoor area has two arcade games and is very family friendly. The outdoor area has a patio area that is relaxing. This place also has an espresso bar, plenty of groceries, beer and wine, bbq supplies, ice, and so much more! Great place but... We stopped at the Fort Ross Store to grab a sandwich and beer then continue on our way. It was about 2:00 p.m. and not busy. There were two other people in front of us that had ordered. It took almost 30 minutes for each of us to get our sandwiches. They were good but it appeared the store could only make one toasted sandwich at a time. We noticed it took just as long for one of the people to get a cold sandwich. I would hate to see what things were like at noon time. My wife made the comment that the store should invest in a couple of George Foreman Grills and make paninis. This review is long overdue, a fleeting memory from our summer road trip that saw our family put nearly 9000 more miles on the truck, with a camper trailer pulled behind. Our first stop was Salt Point State Park, A beautiful natural area off the beaten path, if you don't count Highway 1 along this desolate street of coastline. Despite our plans to travel this summer, my eldest son needed to take a math placement test online during our stay in the area. If you have traveled the stretch of coast line, you know that Internet can be hit or miss, let alone cell service. On our final leg of the journey, we noticed the Fort Ross store, and her sign that said free Wi-Fi. I went inside to pick up a couple of sodas and snacks, and ask the proprietor about it, explaining my son's predicament. The gentleman behind the counter welcomed us to return anytime we wanted, said we could sit out on the patio or inside so my son could take the test. A couple of days later, we woke up early and drove through the fog a couple miles south of our campsite back to the store. I ordered up a cup of coffee and got something for the kid. Has he settled into his spot just off the patio behind the store, I wandered around a little bit taking in the sights. The store has a little deli, call drinks, hot coffee, and all the usual stuff you might expect to find at a convenient store along the side of the road. You can pump gas here as well, and considering how desolate this store is, prices were actually not all that bad. We squatted on their land for a good two hours while my son toy all the way on his exam. I pass the time talking to some day laborers who were bundling firewood for the owner. Interesting guys, with lots of stories. On our way out of the area, we stopped in again to grab a few items and express our thanks. Really nice people who welcomed us and helped my industrious kid meet his educational goals during our summer vacation. Above and beyond, and worth your patronage! read more

We stopped in here to look for postcards and see if they had any 4th of July decorations and sure enough they had a great supply of essential groceries, including small plates & napkins for the holiday. :-) They had a decent selection of helpful grocery items to choose from. Nice size space and even though it was about 4:45 on the 4th, they were open until 9. (I think that's what the clerk said) We actually overheard two EMT's (in line ahead of us) talking with the clerk about a recent accident on hywy 1 just hours before. Thankful no fatalities but scary stuff. The guy told us he'd only been working there for a few months and had already heard of 4 accidents in that time. There is actually no other place to eat dinner within 40min drive! This place went from a two to a ten under new management. Jeff and Nellie have transformed this old roadside store into a friendly modernized place. They have responded to the needs of the community extremely well. Unfortunately I hear that Jeff and Nellie will be moving on ( big mistake by out of state owners). I would honestly stay away from this place unless absolutely necessary. This area of the coast has no cell phone connection and I was lost. Unfortunately there is not much else around so I stopped at the only business I found open. I politely asked if I had passed a specific location and the gentlemen was nice enough to show me a map, where we could not find said location. I'm not exactly sure what triggered his reaction but he became aggressive all of sudden, saying he was not a tour guide, which I know he is not, but the map on the wall indicates they must get similar questions often. He then told me to "get the fuck out." I felt extremely unsafe and left, the lady tried to diffuse the situation by offering to let me use wifi but I no longer wanted to remain in this store. Had I been met with courteous and respectful treatment I may have stuck around and made a purchase. His behavior and level of aggression was completely uncalled for and out of order for the nature of our interaction. Our company has a crew which travels past this store several times at a weekly basis and I will advise them not to shop here. I have the feeling this individual is not used to dealing with POC and his behavior may be a result of implicit bias on his part. read more

They've really fixed the place up and broadened their selection, feature local wines and crafts, and is the local "go-to" place for avoiding a 90 min drive to town. An air of sadness fills this place where, for example, the pastry selection is a small array of those crummy prewrapped danishes you'd only eat if in dire straits, and there's a faint dusty coating on the packages of Pepperidge Farm cookies and Pop Tarts. You can have a sandwich made or maybe the chili is good, but I'll never know. It's a little grocery stocked with an ok selection of canned and packaged goods (they scream "Shelf Life!!" as you wander around getting the hang of the place). You can get some frozen hamburger meat, or chicken or steak, and an onion that hasn't sprouted just yet -that's one of the redeeming qualities of this market. And you can take that frozen hamburger meat across the street to the Fort Ross Lodge and cook it outdoors on the grill that comes with your room. You can slap on some cheddar from the store and toast up a plain old ordinary white bun and it can be the best burger you have ever eaten, even though you forgot to buy salt. read more

This is a typical general store with a deli and small fishing tackle shop combined, LOL! If you're looking for something fancy or flashy, this isn't the place. But if you need some drinks, snacks, Tylenol for your hangover or more fishing leaders and weights because you lost all six of the ones you casted out into the ocean to "hopefully" catch some Rockcod, then you're in the right place. They also have indoor and outdoor seating to enjoy your drinks, snacks or sandwhich that you bought from the deli.
