On a girls trip and stopped here on the drive. The pastries look amazing and the portions large. I had a golden chai which was perfect and a delicious ginger molasses cookie. Their scones are my go-to order, but you can't go wrong with any of their baked goods. They have indoor and covered patio seating, as well as tables spread out over their back lawn that stretches to the bluff and offers sweeping ocean views. I stopped at this cafe for breakfast while driving back home on a Hwy 1 weekend trip. This place has got the views of the ocean and is very pretty. You order at the counter and go pick a table. They'll serve your food at the table. We ordered the banana bread, bacon pie, ham breakfast sandwich and cappuccino. The ham breakfast sandwich was very good. The runny sunny side up egg along with the nicely toasted sandwich bread and ham tasted divine. Banana bread was nice, but had nuts only on the top edge. It would have been nice if there were nuts throughout the bread. The bacon pie was fine. The bets part of the cafe was hands down the amazing ocean view. There is Gualala Bluff trail along the side of the cafe. We walked for a bit there after finishing our breakfast and it was nice!! read more

Came with my wife here today - the man taking the order was wonderful, but one of the women was noticeably irritated we were there nearing close, watching the clock above the door and a clear look of frustration. Turning us down would not have offended me, I thought it was more of a grab and go place. Another customer came in several minutes after we ordered asking if they were open. The man had to turn him down, but the woman looked and sounded happy about the rejection, as if she had one less customer to worry about and she could head home. Great food but was honestly worried someone was going to spit in it or something if the chef shared the same attitude as the woman we encountered behind the counter. Trinks is a MUST TRY spot for those who are day-tripping or staying in the Southern Mendocino / Northern Sonoma Coastline. Their service is excellent, and the lady who took the order was very sweet. The food is amazing as well. I really enjoyed their well-known bacon pie, since the bacon was not too heavy in oil, and the spinach and the eggs inside complemented it. I tried the green smoothie and it was nice. It wasn't overly sweet, just the right amount of sugar and greens. I enjoy the oat bars, they had too. I was the right amount of sweetness and the fig paste and oat ratio was perfect. The ambiance was pretty calm, since I went there around 9 AM, just make sure you go here when it is early. I love how convenient it is since this restaurant is just adjacent to CA Highway 1! Gualala is a beautiful and remote gem that combines both stunning oceanic views and lush forests. read more

Ordered coffee with 1 pump of hazelnut, but unfortunately, my coffee tasted like it had multiple pumps. Way too sweet for my liking. Trink's is a bit of an established breakfast/lunch restaurant on the Southern Mendocino Coast. Food is 4/5, setting is 5/5, service (on the day I went) was 2/5 unfortunately. The counter and dining room clean up person were unfriendly to the point of having a poor attitude. We asked for a table to be wiped down and it seems to be a big irritation to the dining room staff. The counter staff was pretty surly & abrupt when we ordered. Surprising. I understand the staff has to deal with a lot of out of town tourists, but that's no excuse for the apathy from staff towards customers. NEVER EAT HERE. The owner of this establishment is an awful person. I have, unfortunately, visited this "restaurant" twice, and both have equally been horrible experiences. First time, i was greeted by the employees and they were very kind. I was enjoying my meal, until I hear AND see the owner SCREAMING at his child in front of customers. Many people had looks of concern due to the aggression this man showed to his child. If he treats his own kids this way, how does he treat his staff? Makes me wonder. And especially to do that in front of CUSTOMERS!!! I felt horrible for not stepping in. I made the mistake by visiting this establishment a second time, and again had seen the owner speaking aggressively, this time to an employee. This man seems unhinged, unprofessional, and a bad image for this restaurant (because the food is actually quite decent, thanks to the cooks). Trinks is located in Gualala and is one of the few eateries in town opened 7 days a week. The cafe is family run and you have the option to sit outdoors in an open grass area that overlooks the ocean. While the cafe does have a warm cozy feel, the breakfast items we ordered were underwhelming and seemed overpriced. I ordered the Big Boy Breakfast ($16) which included 2 slices of bacon, 2 eggs any styles, a piece of toast and seasoned potatoes. My husband ordered the BBLT and added fries ($19) The country potatoes that came with the Big Boy Breakfast were undercooked and over seasoned. The BBLT was okay although the fries which cost extra, were awful. There were maybe 8 fries in total and had a soggy texture to them, like they were microwaved. Not good. Service was friendly and orders are taken at the counter, they give you a buzzer and you collect your food when the buzzer goes off. Overall the visit was a little disappointing, but that may be due to stopping in when they opened first thing in the morning. Will have to order something different next time around or stop in for lunch instead. read more

*Wanted to love this place, but I wouldn't recommend it.* The sandwich, music, and seating were great, and we were ready to bring friends next time. But the customer service ruined it for us. The tall guy who took our order was kind and welcoming--great first impression. Unfortunately, the girl helping him close kept checking the clock, had a visibly irritated expression, and acted very dismissive. Went for a weekend get away to Gualala and stopped by Trinks for breakfast one morning. My husband and I both agreed that Trinks was the first place in a long while where we thought we wanted just about everything in the pastry case. It was such a good experience that we went all three days we were on our trip. The scones were the best scones I have had in my life. We tried several flavors including blueberry lemon, pumpkin cranberry, strawberry oat and strawberry cream cheese, all of them were unbelievable. The pumpkin was by far my favorite. The inside was moist and flavorful and outside was perfectly crunchy with an amazing sugar coating. In addition, we had the big boy breakfast, the griddle combo, mixed berry bread pudding, apple pie, an eggnog latte and a Carmel macchiato. Everything was delicious. The apple pie was so fresh and the thin apple slices were cooked but still crisp. I can't recommend this place enough and I will be thinking about their scones forever. read more

I stay at the hotel that is walking distance to Trinks, and I wish it was open earlier for coffee. Instead we go across the street to the bakery. I have been here a couple of times and while I like the location, I haven't had the best service. My last trip there was to get something for dessert to take back to the room. My husband and I were standing at the counter while two employees completely ignored us and carried on with their conversation. Finally, one of the two people looked up, and with items in my hand, told me they had just closed, even though the doors were open and we had been standing there a good 2-3 minutes. I guess it was too much for a final sale. Other people came in after us and I am sure they could not make a purchase either. Maybe close the doors when you are closed or let people know as they walk in. And certainly, don't ignore people as they are standing at the counter and carry on with your conversation. read more

We had two very different experiences on two visits here. Some of the items are very basic in flavor and presentation. The pancakes are large and fluffy but have very little flavor. The bacon was run-of-the-mill bacon. The potatoes had a flavor like seasoned salt, not terrible but not great. Our lattes were thin and the espresso tasted a little watered down. Really sad to give this place only two stars. The food (a hamburger that my wife ordered) was good and one can sit outside and enjoy an uninterrupted view of the Pacific Ocean. The building itself is unattractive and the path to the restrooms is extraordinarily long if one is sitting on the ocean-view patio. The problem came with the service. We ordered a burger and a chicken sandwich. I heard my wife order the chicken sandwich - very clearly. The burger came out and, unbidden, the server stated that the chicken sandwich would be "out shortly." We waited.And we waited. The server came back with some cutlery for my wife and reiterated that the chicken sandwich was "on the way." Next thing we know is that she comes out to inform us that we never ordered a chicken sandwich. Fine. Mistakes can happen. However, there was no apology. I was simply told I never ordered one. I went inside to ask for a plate so we could split the burger and informed the staff that a simple apology would have been appreciated. None came. Instead, all four staff members started talking at once informing me that we never ordered a chicken sandwich. Their voices became raised and the tone extremely hostile. When I finally said, that even if they thought I HAD NOT ordered it, an apology would have been in order. Finally, the cashier said: "OK, we're sorry you didn't order your chicken sandwich. Happy now?" Absolutely horrible service and disgraceful treatment from people working in the service industry. I work in the service industry. Everyone knows: if a client has been disappointed, the first thing one ought to do is just say "sorry," and make it right if it's possible. Appalling. Really. read more

What a lovely place to catch lunch after a walk through the redwoods! When we entered the restaurant, we were blown away by the prepared foods section. They have meat, soups and desserts ready to go, as well as a large beer and wine collection. The food itself was very tasty - I had the salmon flatbread and my partner had the BBLT (second B is bleu cheese). They were both delicious but the BBLT was heaven. I'm putting bleu cheese on all my BLT's now. They have a lovely outdoor area that overlooks the ocean and plenty of tables to sit down. Beware of the seagulls trying to catch a bite. **3.5 rating Trinks has a good selection of pastries & the location and scenery outside is stunning. However, the chai & other coffees are pretty watered down. Additionally, the regular food options are dry, lackluster with their seasoning, & $$$. My main go-to here would probably just be the veggie sandwich in order to keep it simple. The lemon meringue tarts and other pastries are fantastic though! And regardless of any complaints, Trinks is always going to be a classic stop whenever I'm in Gualala. read more

We have been going to Trink's for over a decade. It is ok and has it's ups and downs. Today we had lunch and it was disappointing. French fries were soggy (a sin in my book). Fried chicken sando was overcooked and dry while also being greasy. Salad had some wilted bits. Slaw had no flavor at all. The birria dip was tasty but the pot of red dipping grease on the plate was cray-cray - simply grease. My espresso shot was too sour to drink so they generously remade it twice but it only improved marginally. The barista didn't seem to have much understanding of how to adjust the grind to correct sourness. Oh well. The pastries look nice, as always. Service is lovely. Amazing local cafe, restaurant + little shop w/ refrigerated & pantry items. We stopped by for lunch to-go and we were absolutely thrilled with the quality of the food. The fried chicken wrap w/ fries & the breakfast sandwich were so fresh and delicious. Top notch "hand cut" French fries. While we waited for our food I browsed the shelves and fridges. Lots of lovely local products, high quality meat, soups, take & bake dishes and more! Unfortunately, our cooler was fully packed, so we had to hold off on snagging a container of pozole to go.
