Home made ice cream, artisanal pastries, and fresh brewed coffee plus friendly staff. Minus 1 star for opening late on a Saturday. Love this place nonetheless.

We were having lunch 2 doors down and saw this place and decided to give it a try since we wanted some ice cream. I ended up getting a sorbet. It was apricot honey. I tried this since it was something different than what I have had. It was nice and tasted exactly like apricots and honey! 1 scoop went a long way. The young lady who was working there was friendly and gave us suggestions on places to stop at in Fort Bragg. This was very nice of her!

On the inevitable drive back on Hwy 128 from Mendocino to the Bay Area, the timing of Boonville on your itinerary could be problematic if you started with a big breakfast in Mendocino. Jamie W. and I never feel famished enough to make a genuine dining stop in Boonville preferring to move on and have those hairpin turns behind us. Since we tried the Mosswood Market Cafe a couple of years ago, we noticed that Boonville has been booming as a tourist magnet with yuppified eateries lining the road. Even though we weren't that hungry, who doesn't have a little room for ice cream? Paysanne is a compact little shop which looks like a French country gift shop. They serve up various artisan ice cream from Three Twins and Straus Family Creamery in old-fashioned sundae goblets. There were probably a dozen flavors in all which you can sample to your heart's delight. Just ask the young San Francisco couple in front of us who attempted to do just that. It's just ice cream, you entitled morons. I ordered a $3.50 scoop of the Straus Raspberry (see photo), which was just the sweet refresher I needed before heading out on the open road. So take a break from your brakes, sit a spell in a bucolic small town, and lick up a scoop. ICE CREAM - 4 stars...good quality ice cream AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...the French countryside in the boonies SERVICE - 3 stars...she scoops with dexterity TOTAL - 4 stars...a worthwhile stop if you're not hungry enough for a meal

The lady that was working here was as sweet as the ice cream!! Cute little place, good ice cream, coffee, and they even have homemade meringues and caramels too! The place is pretty small but that's part of the appeal I think.

The ice cream is great, but I have typically stopped in for the coffee- I believe that their espresso-based drinks are the best in town.

We came in for breakfast on a Saturday morning and they were definitely busy with a line out the door. Despite the crowd, all the staff members were welcoming and kind. No one seemed flustered or made us feel rushed. We sat on the patio and enjoyed a piece of apple crumb bread (gf), loaded cheesy toast with avocado, a peluche (stuffed crispy roll), and our coffees. My mom and I each had a lavender latte with oat milk. These were awesome! Rich and smooth with a hint of lavender, not overly sweet at all. My dad had a mocha that was also very tasty. The loaded cheesy toast was delicious and the presentation was better than what you get at most boutique cafes in SF or LA. The almond pesto absolutely makes this dish and the spicy mayo drizzle on top is the perfect kick to complement the melty cheese and creamy avocado. The peluche was very good as well-- flaky, crispy outside with roasted potatoes, scrambled egg, and cheese in the middle. You never know if the food is going to meet your expectations when a kitchen is busy on a weekend morning, but it was all tasty and nicely presented. Apple crumble was also stellar! This is the kind of local coffee shop everyone hopes to have in their hometown. Will definitely be going back here with my parents whenever I'm in town for a visit! :)

The Cinnabang is a house specialty drink with espresso, sweetened condensed milk and cinnamon. (The Bangkok is apparently very similar, but without the cinnamon, which I enjoyed.) Now, I love blueberry muffins in general, but this one was next level! It was packed with fruit and, while I'd recommend at least one wet wipe or napkin, it's worth the mess. I had to check and, sure enough, they make them in house, like all of their baked goods. It was the perfect amount of sweetness and a generous portion, obviously still fresh. While I didn't catch the staff's names, they were all friendly, helpful and welcoming. The place felt warm and inviting, yet unpretentious. I hadn't been to downtown Cloverdale since my childhood, but this brief visit made me want to return soon! Charm and comfort food with reasonable prices too! Yes please! The whole block where Plank is located has boutiques and restaurants. Lots to see and explore and worth return visits.

The cheeses alone are worth the drive, especially their Laychee which happened to be studded with fresh blueberries when we visited. If you try only one thing, make it the seasonal Laychee. It's unforgettable. We also devoured their ultra creamy deviled eggs, sipped wine, and ordered a cheese board because, honestly, cheese was the only thing on our minds. Boonville sits about 115 miles north of San Francisco, tucked among vineyards, redwoods, and small-town farmland. This whole stretch feels like a little slice of heaven. Stepping onto the property, it reminded me of a European farmstead. What makes Pennyroyal so special is that everything you taste comes directly from this land: goats, sheep, gardens, vineyards, cheese, wine - all feeding into each other on the same 66-acre ecosystem. Nothing is outsourced. They're open daily, and you can grab a table overlooking the vineyards or wander over to meet the animals and the people behind your very happy stomach. If you're exploring California's North Coast, this place belongs on your list.

Great for kids, even the younger kids won't complain about the walk and the animals are exciting for them. Following the farm tour was the wine and cheese tasting, which was excellent of course. There are many great wineries in this area and the wine was good, but the specialty is on the cheese. The cheese was amazing! They offer a limited food menu (think heavy snacks or appetizers rather than a full meal) and the food was also excellent. Plenty of space for the kids to run around. At my next visit I'm bringing an ice cooler so that we can take cheese to-go for home enjoyment. Overall this is a delightful and kid-friendly wine and cheese tasting and I look forward to my next visit.

Absolutely Amazing!…read more The barista in the shop today was amazing. Immediately felt so warm and conversation was soft, which is so important because of a social role of a barista. I only saw more and more green flags as I looked at the menu and saw the bar. I told them about my experiences at other cafes I've stopped at and ordered a classic cortado. The milk sounded beautiful as it was being steamed and she was gentle when aerating it as well. Craft Coffee and espresso is my special interest, especially as a neurodivergent individual. The food science behind it and the role of a barista is my career. I'm by no means a master in my craft but Im educated and constantly looking for craft cafes across CA. I am doing a roadtrip from San Diego to Humboldt and was suggested by a trusted peer/coworker of mine to stop here. So my hopes were already high. It is the *best* cortado I've ever received by another person. The espresso was light and a little nutty and the milk was sweet. No overly dry foam or flat watery milk. It has a the perfect consistent velvety texture even as I'm sitting in my car right now typing this out. Some cafes taste great in the beginning but the foam separates or the espresso turns bitter too quickly once the crema dissipates. But this was wonderful the time and I got a savour it. Completely changed the last leg of my trip and my birthday. I was going to wait until I got home to leave a review but I couldn't. I will be stopping by here everytime I pass by and heavily suggesting my crew and my friends to if they ever are traveling down. Typing this out I realized I forgot my pumpkin loaf but I don't even feel upset because I absolutely loved this drink. I hope my barista sees this review because they were absolutely amazing and deserve this feedback!!!
