well cooked carnitas on a thin tortilla i've never had before, tasty
    Jay P.

My kid had to use the bathroom and there were signs all over that said "bathrooms for customers only". In hindsight we probably could have just ran in and used it but we were guilt-tripped into buying something. Normally we would steer clear of anywhere that had a sign that said "bakery, pizza, mexican" but the tacos we ordered were very good. We got 1 asada and 1 carnitas tacos and this would be my go-to taqueria if it was local, in certain locations in the bay area this would be a top stop for mexican food. Quality of the meat was good, wondering if the close proximity to so many ranches and farms have anything to do with it. The tortillas here are very thin, they reminded me of the wrapping you get with peking roast duck. I liked this a lot, wasn't as filling and the meat, onions, and cilantro have a sharper taste when not diluted by too much carbs. Inside is set up like a food court, there is gallery and shops upstairs and down, the pizza/mexican is directly in front of the door and the bakery is on the left. We didn't get to try anything but the tacos but did note the bakery is open at 6 am.

Top: Chips & Guacamole Bottom: Enchiladas Suizas (pollo)
    Jillian P.

They may look like a hole-in-the-wall (because they kind of are) but the food is delicious and exactly the comfort food I was craving. Ordered their enchiladas suizas with chicken and a side of chips and guacamole. Great flavors and super mild spice. Their side of refried beans was perhaps my favorite part of the meal. Loved using the chips to eat my main course; especially with those beans. The only reason they aren't getting a solid 5 stars is because of the stingy guacamole portion. It was literally a slice of avocado sitting in the small side container, and disappeared with the first chip... Will definitely return to try their carnitas (and order an extra serving of those refried beans).

The cheese is legit, but the sauce was bland and the crust texture was crunchy like Papa Murphy's. Definitely not the best pizza ever.

I noticed a queue outside of Franny's, so I just got into line and waited, not even knowing what I was waiting for! Let me tell you, this review is coming almost 2 years later because the baked good I discovered here was so delightful and so life changing that it has resulted in an insatiable obsession for me. I went up to the counter finally and, feeling overwhelmed by the selection and display case, asked the cashier what they would recommend. I ended up with a croissant, a cookie, and the cashier-recommended canneles. I didn't even eat the cannele until the following day, and it was pure bliss. Cute little pasty about 2in tall with a crispy, caramelized experiour and moist custardy 'cake' on the inside. I had never eaten anything like it. To this day, I search far and wide for canneles and will go to great lengths to secure them. They are a rare delight simply because of the artistry and precision and expensive tools/ingredients required to make them. Franny's has a special spot in my heart for introducing me to the magical little pastry, canneles. For that, Franny gets all the stars!

The kale and cabbage salad was innovative with a fermented garlic vinaigrette dressing with crispy kale (never had that before) and marcona almonds. It was a substantial salad for two and was delicious - not too much dressing, the dressing wasn't overpowering, the cabbage was crisp - it all worked really well. Because they didn't have gluten free pizza crusts, got the asparagus, green garlic and speck pizza toppings over polenta, which came out sizzling hot in a pan. It probably was great as a pizza, but not great over polenta. The pizza's looked large, so instead of getting a pizza that would only be half eaten, ordered the radiatorre pasta with pork ragu as the second entree. The pasta was fresh, substantial and delicious. The ragu was good, not too saucy, but a little bland. It could have benefited from some fresh basil and a little more... oomph. The local wines - barbera and granache - were not our favorites so we ordered a bottle of sangiovese. Fairly pricey - it all came out to over $200.
