We stopped by the other night while hitting up some other local breweries and making a stop at Staples to grab a heavily discounted phone charger for the car since they were going out of business. I loved everything about this place upon arrival. I love how most breweries buy or rent buildings that weren't being used. It was busy when we came in but not packed. There was a little party going on which I always love seeing people get together to celebrate whatever it is they are celebrating. The service was good and the beers we had were too. I've been waiting to try Fort Nonsense since they moved to their new location. This weekend, my wife and I had a chance to stop in with my stepson and his girlfriend. Since it was super hot out, we sat inside. There's plenty of seating and it's a fun atmosphere. We started with a flight to try different options, then each ordered our own glasses. My favorite was the Hazy IPA. Our servers were all very friendly and helpful explaining the beer choices. They don't serve food, but their website encourages customers to bring their own. So five stars for staff, location, service, variety of special nights (Mario Kart, trivia, bonsai bars, beer yoga, holiday events, D&D). One star off because the beer can be hit and miss at times, but they also have some pretty solid offers. It's become one of my regular beer spots sufficiently to have gotten one of their growlers for regular fills. I love what they've done with the place! The new space is a huuuuuge upgrade. The bar is modern and beautifully decorated. The ceiling is adorned in hanging lights, and there is plenty of seating both inside and out. There are so many beers on tap to try so a flight is a great option. Most people in the brewery were ordering flights which wasn't surprising. The PSL (pumpkin spice lager) is one of my favorites. I also really liked the chocolate peanut porter. Most of their beers are for sale in four packs if you want to take your favorite home. Fort Nonsense is BYOF but at the new location they do sell small snack boxes with things like pretzels and cheese and crackers. There is also a nice outdoor area with picnic tables. When you roll up the vibe is a little weird, since the new brewery is in a very quiet area that looks like an office park. However, once inside this is a real deal brewery and a fun place to kick back with some drinks and friends. read more

Offering three different price points for different sizes, my sister and I were able to enjoy a beer without being too full on it as we were going to grab dinner afterwards. They offer cold cans and growler fills for their beers. Didn't grab a growler but grabbed a 4 pack that I wanted to try on tap but wasn't available. I can see this place continuing to grow into something larger and seeing it clean up to be a fine establishment but for my Friday afternoon I was delighted to check this place out; felt safe and ordering was easy as they came to our table to take our orders. When I was a young and inexperienced drinker I was fine with something like Miller Lite. I'm no longer there and haven't been for 20 years so places like Fort Nonsense Brewing bring a joy to the tastebuds of this beer lover. I had wanted to come here since they opened over a year ago, but I simply never made it. A couple weeks ago, on a whom, I told Wifey to get dressed so we could go out. She raised her eyebrow (her best 'first off, don't tell me what to do' look), but she got dressed and we were in our way to some of the best beer in the area. Didn't know what to really expect, for instance I didn't bother to check about food (it's a BYOF place ), but we loved the place. Simple table set up, no reservations, servers who are really knowledgeable about the beer, and an amazing selection. I love that they rotate their selection (usually eight beers on tap) and I was happy to try everything they had. Not a big IPA fan, but even their IPA was delicious. Looking forward to my next visit in a couple days...this is a new go-to place. Just need to bring food this time! read more

I give this place 5-Stars because it's something different in the area and the beer is good and service is very friendly. New local brewery but not a lot of space to do what they do. The store front is a small house off Rt 10, almost looks like it used to be a Dry Cleaners but don't let that fool you. They got some awesome beer! They have a total of 8 on tap, #1 to 4 are their traditional brews and #5 to 8 are their crafted stuff that change with season. They had one that they infuse with ugly fruit (and they had the apparatus on the bar) which you can see when they were pouring. My other favorite was their coffee infused porter - I'm not a fan of dark beer but I would drink this one again. They have growler's to go also. Try a flight of 4. They don't have food but they let you bring your own... a brewery that's BYOF (Bring Your Own Food). There is very limited seating outdoors and still decently limited indoors so I would suggest going upon opening especially with the nice weather! We got to try it out on New Year's Eve . Very cute little brewery. Very clean, tastefully decorated. Very homey feel. We originally wanted to try the cranberry sour but it wasn't on tap so we ended up just buying two bottles to go . (12.00 each, not cheap) we did try an ipa , a tripel and a porter while we were there. Very pleased with them all. All very smooth. During my brewery tour up north, I heard that Fort Nonsense was one of the newer ones. I was tempted to go there when they first opened, but then I just went up there on Saturday. They have now been open for three months. Out of the 60 breweries that I have visited in NJ alone, they are the friendliest. Andrew and his wife Emily are young and full of ambition. They appreciate your business. This is definitely a great place to hang out on the weekends if you live in Morris Co. and just want to relax. Their saison won second prize at the Atlantic City Beerfest. Sounds like a Community Chest Monopoly card, but it's actually quite an accomplishment for a brand new brewery. It has a higher viscosity and goes down creamy and rich. The name Fort Nonsense is a tribute to a Revolutionary War era fort built in the area that was never used. I like their painting on the wall. What's a Randall? How do you feel about adulterating wheat beer with kumquat and mango? Happily neither one is required LOL, come to Fort Nonsense and try their ales, worth a visit. My buddy and I were fans of the pale ale, the amber ale, the plain porter and the IPA. Good clean flavors, yummy fresh beer. Neither of us cared much for the wheat beer nor the coffee porter. Alas no lagers at all. A Randall is a cylinder filled with fruit where they pump beer through to pick up a little extra flavor. The day we visited it was kumquat and mango in that cylinder. The result was just too sweet for us. Flight of four 5 ounce pours is $12, a 10 ounce pour is $5, and a 16 ounce pour is $6.50. Bring food! Tours not required, was not even offered to us. This five barrel brewery opened January 2018. Tucked in an old building right on the side of Route 10. Easy to find, just enuf parking. The tap room has benches, tables and chairs; nothing special but easy to pass some time there. During our visit we watched with considerable surprise as one of the brewers tried to color a vat of beer pink by blending up a few pounds of raw red beets and dumping them in. Can you taste those beets in there? Not my, ahem, cup of tea exactly. read more

I accidentally stumbled upon Fort Nonsense during their "soft opening" just because I was passing by. It's a relatively small taproom, as expected from a newly opened craft brewery. The people were friendly and welcoming, and tours were being conducted on what seemed like an hourly schedule. There's table seating and I don't believe there was any bar seating, but plenty of people were standing by the bar and hanging out. Given that they are new, I won't hold them to the standards that I would for larger, longer-standing breweries. They had 5 beers at the soft opening, all of which were worth trying. My friend and I each got a flight of 4, and they offered to let us try the one we didn't get in the flight. The amber made with dosakai (Indian melon) was unique and refreshing. I really enjoyed the IPA and the saison. The amber ale and tavern porter were okay. Overall, cute friendly place and I like the variety of beers they had to offer at their soft opening. I think this place is great, and has a lot of potential, and I am looking forward to returning in the future to see how they grow. read more

Great new local brewery! Hard to spot the sign as you cruise down Rte 10. It's in the plaza right at the bottom of the hill. I went here in the winter as it opened a couple times. Fun staff and warm feeling inside. The building itself is pretty small and a bit cramped when it gets busy. The bar is set up well it's just a skinny building. Another reviewer suggested they open up the area near the brew tanks- that would help a lot. Right now, it feels really cramped when everyone is there with friends. I liked the Benedict Arnold Traitor Res Ale. Great flavor and color. I like how all the beer names are related to the theme of the brewery here. Makes you feel like your back in Colonial Times. Final say, great local brewing with an even better theme. An asset to have in Randolph/Denville and really the only option east of Jersey Girl. Suggestions: open up some more space and let people spread out more. Put your location on your pint glasses! It's a great way to advertise your community too. So happy to have discovered this gem upon moving to Denville. The husband and I are self-proclaimed beer snobs so we weren't expecting much from the small spot. The brewery is in a small building along Rt 10 west that has been remodeled. The part where the beer is brewed is combined with the small bar and table area where guests sit and enjoy the beer. There are 4 beers always on tap and 4 that rotate. On the day we visited there were mostly IPAs. You can buy most of the beers in cans or, of course, bring your growler to have it filled. We found Fort Nonsense on Yelp and trekked out there one night after visiting Magnify 20 minutes away. Their location is great--they're right on the side of the highway, and parking is easy. Their physical space is also great. Their taproom is spacious, and there was plenty of seating on a Saturday night. The problem I had with Ft. Nonsense is that their beer is just mediocre. There are several breweries (Magnify, notably--and even Cricket Hill) within just a few miles that are considerably better. We ordered a flight, and tasted a few IPAs and a Stout. None of them was bad, but they were all unremarkable. It's discouraging that so many breweries have learned to mimic the appearance of DIPAs and NEIPAs without nailing the flavor. So Fort Nonsense's beer...tasted like beer. That said, the people were friendly and it wasn't super expensive. They're also open later--unlike Magnify which closes inexplicably early. read more

I felt that my initial experience was probably about a 3, however, it was their first week open and they are still learning what to expect as far as what to brew and quantity to have on hand. The + side:They are brand new, everything is clean and the guys behind the bar are super helpful and know their beer. They had a food truck outside, so you can grub along with your brew. The - side and space for improvement: They weren't prepared for the crowd, they ran out of a few of their popular beers by midweek of their opening. I'm an IPA guy and all they had were German beers and stouts on hand so I had to settle. They were good, but nothing I wanted to fill a growler and take home. Getting into the brewery is a bit confusing, maybe a better sign should be placed out front. The food truck parked in front of the sidewalk and I had to climb around it in the snow to get in. A lot of other breweries now have games or a "lost and found section" full of games depending on state law. Some music would have been great too! The tap room is pretty small with only a handful of tables, they could extend out into the brew room and just block off the tanks with rope? Even though my negative list outweighs my positive list, I have faith in this brewery to learn and make the necessary adjustments they need to. I will certainly be returning after giving them some time to settle to try some of their other brews. Maybe you can build on your IPA types available?
