Angry Erik is a delightful brewery in North Jersey that stands out for a few reasons: 1. Viking themed. Fun Viking flourishes all around the taproom like a giant flag behind the bar. 2. One of the northern most breweries in the state. 3. While NJ breweries legally can't have kitchens and serve cooked food, this brewery has by far the most amount of snacks on offer out of any NJ brewery I've been to. Peanuts, pretzels, jerky, tortilla chips and salsa, etc. and even an indoor s'mores kit complete with a portable flame for roasting your marshmallows right at your seat. 4. Huge menu given the size of its taproom. I counted 18 beers on tap + a variety of hard seltzers. Some of the beers are absolutely bonkers (exhibit A, your Honor: a mushroom and rosemary saison). My girlfriend and I each had a flight and a full pour and enjoyed what we had. As a beer nerd, I appreciate how well organized the menu is: all beers have a detailed description and are presented in order from light to dark. Like many breweries these days, they charge a 3.75% credit card fee, which is disclosed on the menu. Overall a really nice place with some interesting and enjoyable beers. We live in South Jersey so nowhere close, but if we're ever in the area again we would come back. read more

Angry Erik Brewing - Breweries Near Me - Newton, New Jersey

A great brewery in the middle of nowhere. Super service and a nice space to enjoy inside. The variety of offerings is larger than expected and the Viking theme of the place is fun too. You are not going to find more than some packaged goods here for food, and I am going to copy my comments on that from a review I did elsewhere... (The only thing I am not sure about for Erik is the tour. Maybe that is no longer a hard requirement?) The more breweries in NJ I visit the more I am starting to understand the unusual challenges they have so don't unfairly compare an experience here to one in a different state. In general, to the best of my knowledge, they cannot serve food, only packaged goods. Why? The lobby effort from restaurants to keep them out of the food business. They need to do tours. Yes, I tease you not and patrons need to take a tour once a year to drink there. That's why the spaces are open, that's the tour. They can only host 25 events a year. Yes, NJ doesn't want event people bringing in too much food. Oh, and they cannot call food trucks onto the property either. Advertise? Well, there are restrictions on that too. What a mess. read more

NEWTON: we thank a local attending the Pupstock Festival for letting us know about Angry Erik Brewing! Angry Erik is a family friendly craft brewery with a Viking/Medieval ambiance and leashed dogs are allowed inside! There is a big indoor tasting room with an amazing bar shaped as a dragon ship! There is also a great outdoor patio and plenty of grass! There is an amazing selection of beers, snacks for purchase, and you can bring your own food. Loved spending time with @theycallmeauggiedoggie! read more

Solid brewery with some great beers on tap. Have been here twice, once after riding the Paulinskill Rail trail and once after a local apple picking trip was a bust. All beers are really good and I love the fact that they'll can any of the ones you tried and loved to take home while you wait. No food other than snacks, but they have several menus on hand whereby local restaurants will deliver directly to your table. We ordered pizza and it showed up in 30 minutes. I was happy both times I went to see a robust outdoor crowd since COVID has made it hard for any business to stay above water. Praying the colder weather doesn't impact business. Friendly staff and awesome little spot that I'll surely return to. read more

Angry Erik Brewing - Sampler menu - Breweries Near Me - Newton, New Jersey

Very cool spot! Went to see my favorite local band duo today with my son. This place is great. It's spacious, has a very friendly staff and excellent beers. I had the Golden Latte Stout and the Hop the Fence IPA, both were very very good. They have outdoor and indoor seating and had a Japanese food truck in the parking lot. They have other snacks inside but no meals. They only serve two drinks, beer and water so if you want something else, bring it. You can also bring food. There were several people inside with bags of cheese and crackers and fruit. One table had a whole spread out, maybe it was someone's birthday. Outside there is a fire pit going and plenty of room to sit and chat. I will go back here, it is a really cool spot to have a cold beer and hang out read more

Stopped in on a rainy day looking for something to do. Lots of space at the bar and lots of tables. Great beer selection and some bar snacks on the menu. They have great merchandise as well. ( Which we brought some). Great place friendly staff. Will definitely be coming back next time in the area. read more

Angry Erik Brewing - a large flag hanging from the ceiling - Breweries Near Me - Newton, New Jersey

Bottom line: cozy hometown brewery with fair variety of beers (not just 10 hazy IPAs). Gluten line: not even a cider guys? :( come on. Maybe some clarity fern/equivalent to make some gluten reduced at least? Long line: the location is tucked away a bit in what I'm guessing qualifies as an industrial area likely per NJ laws. The space is split into two parts, first a small bar area and then the brewery in the back with benches and some board games. Had a sampler which was fairly priced and hung out in the back. The tour is short and sweet as they should be. I enjoyed all of the beers in my sampler (see pictures). Overall very welcoming and friendly staff. Only wished I lived closer. Will return if in the area. read more

Great beer choices. Nice atmosphere. Friendly, helpful staff. Love the Dainty Viking & Hop and Awe!

We've been wanting to come here for some time, finally the time was right, following a nice hike in the area. Located in a small office park it is easily passed by. The quick tour offered by one of the employees was informative, quick, and entertaining. We enjoyed our flight so much we picked up a growler for later. What made this such an enjoyable stop was the other customers who chatted us up. We got some good dinner recommendations. We look forward to our return and finding Angry Eric at our local spots. read more

Excellent for the area. Wrong Choice for fast Talking Server, though. Come on! Sussex County, not Brooklyn. read more

Angry Erik is the northernmost brewery in New Jersey, and it is also the only one in Sussex County. I heard about them when visiting others, and I knew I would have to make it all the way up there in order to say that I will have visited every brewery in the state. It is fun driving to it because the area is hilly, more rural, and so different from the rest of New Jersey. I really had a lot of fun there. The other customers and bartenders were all extremely nice and welcoming. I have to say that an older crowd was there on the day I went, but still friendly. Apparently there will be moving to a newer, larger location soon. The beers tend to be a little non-conventional and have lots of spice to them. The real beer snobs might not be happy, but I enjoyed them myself. The Viking theme is cool. I like how it plays out in the names of the beers and even the tap handles. 4 stars instead of 5 because I did not have the chance to go on a tour. I usually enjoy meeting the owner and getting to learn about how they got started. However, I had exceptional service from the bartender in ordering my flight. read more

Cool little brewery, the staff is very friendly. Eric and Heide were very nice, Heide does the brewing. The beers were very good, my favorite was the dark side of the leaf, a pumpkin spice stout. I like the whole viking theme they have going on as well. They are apparently expanding to a bigger location in a year so it will be exciting to see what the future growth will bring. read more

What a delightful find riding the Pauliskill Rail trail. Brand new facility, an impressive array of brews. The Tsunami IPA and the Bwlgian Dubbel were both tasty, balanced and showing skill. A congenial crowd, if only there was food. Come on NJ! Change those archaic laws. read more

Brand spanking new brewery that just opened this February! The brewery is so new, that their not even selling bottles yet, but soon! However, the bar is open for pints, growler fills and tastings. They got a cool little setup; nothing fancy or too complicated, but it works. When you walk in, they have a bar amd some high tables. Plus they got additional seating in the back, which is right in the actual brewery. The staff are totally cool and highly knowledgeable on beer and beer making. My brother and I are getting into home brewing and the guy working at the bar gave us a lot of useful tips. I had a few beers while stopping in to get my growler filled. The "Hop The Fence IPA" was my favorite; not too hoppy, yet not under hopped. The "3-ball Porter" was another good one; not to overbearing like some porters can be. The "Paulinskill Pale Ale" was also pretty good. I didn't get to try their Stout; maybe next time! They offer a "VIP Growler club" program, for forty dollars a year gets you a dollar off pints and two dollar off growler fills, so if you live in the area it's totally worth it to take advantage of it. Next time I'm in the area, I know where I'm stopping by to get a drink. read more

Excellent beer! Wish it were closer to us. Sampled about 5 varieties and all were very good. Have only found it for sale in the liquor factory in Jefferson so far but still looking for a store closer to Randolph. Oh, and we enjoyed the food tent from Sparta as well. Will be back. read more

Good atmosphere, nice space. For an established brewery it' is unusual that they don't include the International Bitter Units (IBU's) of their brews in the descriptions. It would have been helpful. And 3/4 of the beers listed were IPA's which is great if you like ipa's. read more

Refreshing beers and fun environment after a two hour hike. Brought lunch with me and sat at the bar, chatted with the friendly bartenders who were very informative about their beer menu. Would absolutely recommend to anyone in the area! read more

Very chill and laid back place. Staff was very helpful and friendly. No TV or anything downstairs but did not make it upstairs.

What a great place with great people! Even with a packed house, the service was on point! Though I have been on many tours of many breweries, I enjoyed this one. It has a great feel where the locals are all friendly, and the beer is interesting and delicious! Will have to stop in here again (or at their new location as they are moving) next time I am in town! -Big Mike read more

We have been here twice. Once pre-Covid and then again over the weekend. Their beer is consistent and tasty. I haven't tasted anything I didn't like. I love the decor inside and the beautiful bar! But they have a great outdoor set up with tables and tents. They are doing a great job keeping everything clean and making their customers feel safe! We will definitely be back! read more

I had forgotten about this new brewery..until we drove past it on the way to run an errand. It's a Sunday. It's noon. Do we go back? Of course! This is a great little brewery. If getting to talk directly to the brewers is your thing, you're in luck. Our server behind the bar was also very informative and able to answer any of our questions. They had 8 of their beers on tap for tasting or pints as well as growler and grunt fills. They do not bottle their beers as of yet but they are on tap at a number of local bars (and you can purchase half barrels and sixtels plus a keg deposit for your next party). The man and I each bought a sampler of 4 beers ($6 for 4 samples) and mixed it up so that we got to taste all 8. Overall they were very good, though some were more memorable than others (ahem, the H2Ale...so good). We were given a brief tour of the small facility by one of the brewers which was a great opportunity to ask questions. We bought a grunt (32 oz) of their Viva Verde (Jalapeño IPA) to take back with us and our server made sure to add slices of jalapeños with seeds to give the beer a spicy kick). I really enjoyed my first visit here and I can't wait to see what the future holds for them! read more

Fantastic craft brewery I visited 2-11-17. Scheduled a stay over trip and Drove up from Maryland / Delaware area on advice from a coworker and after having tried the Hop-N-Awe IPA in a 22oz bottle recently. Let's just say....it was well worth the 2-1/2 hour drive up Saturday and drive home Sunday in a messy snow storm. It's On the smaller side ...but felt very warm and inviting. Tried 2 samplers that were very diverse and delicious. They had something for anyone's style craft beer. Heidi the head brewer puts together a great range and styles with outstanding recipes. Was excited to hear they are brewing a Jalepeno flavored brew and currently have a bourbon soaked coming out soon. Went with the Hoparoo for my Pint and girlfriend enjoyed the Belgian What. Both were fantastic brews. Perfectly matched our styles we like. The freshness was outstanding . Ordered up a growler of the Hoparoo to take back to philly because it was so tasty. Had great conversations with patrons and staff....everyone was extremely friendly. In speaking to the head brewer Heidi I let her know that the Hop-N-Awe was easily one of the finest IPA's I've ever had . And I'm a big time beer snob so I've tried 1000's of craft beers. When I asked to buy a bottle I was told they had just sold out. I was crushed....As good as the Hoparoo is I was really looking forward to bringing back a bottle of that Hop-N-Awe. Heidi didn't hesitate for one second and offered me up a bottle from her own personal stash. This shows you how passionate and devoted the owners are to their craft and how much they care about making sure their customers have an enjoyable visit. Angry Erik's deserves 10 stars in my mind. Keep up the great work you do and I surely will be planning a return trip . Top notch brewery. read more

Not a huge brewery, but they make some pretty good beer. The space is a bit cramped with only two tables and the bar, but they are moving soon to a much larger space. They have about 6 - 8 on tap, though a few were mixes of two other beers, so there isn't a tremendous amount of choice, but the beer is good. The seasonal brews especially are very nice and unique. read more

Everything I look for in a small brewery: Great beer, nice location, and friendly staff. Beer selection is a nice mix of solidly brewed beer and creative recipes. Paulinskill Pale Ale is a great, refreshing beer. They nailed it--perfect after a hike! And the unique spices in the Three-Ball porter make for a tasty brew. Atmosphere: has that warehouse-y feel that I love in small breweries. Nice wood bar and tables around. Everyone having a good time. Brewery itself was very clean. No food, but they have menus sitting around to order stuff in from local places. Also, although the owners are dog lovers, they don't allow dogs inside. Not a big deal for me (I just won't bring pup next time), but good for others to know. Great to see such good beer being brewed in Sussex County!! Will be returning. read more

Great beer at a reasonable price. The owners are real nice people who love dogs. My favorite is Hop The Fence. Smooth IPA.

Yes, location is odd, but upon asking the owners why they chose it, it makes perfect sense. Every time we visit, we leave happy (and with a growler or 2). We have tried every beer that they have brewed since opening and I have loved each one. They have a BYO Food policy and indoor picnic benches that you can sit down and have a few pints and eat whatever you bring. It's a really awesome concept, something that Sussex county (especially the high point region) was missing. I am happy they are here and glad to see they are doing well! You can even get some of their beers at Salt and Mohawk house! Yay! AND the owners are super nice as well as the employees. love love love it! read more

What can I say about Angry Erik brewing? Well, the people who operate the brewery are great people. The atmosphere Angry Erik has created is very cool. The beer is awesome!! You can tell a LOT of heart, not to mention, blood, sweat & tears goes into making their beer. If you haven't been to Angry Erik, you're definitely missing out. Great beers. Good prices. But they need live music!! Pleassseee bring live music! Lots of locals want it!

Great brewery, i was very impressed with the beers they made, the two we tried were delicious! The place is kind of small though, there were no seats available so we had to stand. The place can seat about 20-30 people only. The only other annoying thing is you NEED to take a brewery tour in order to drink here, luckily its the smallest brew house I've ever stepped foot in besides someones kitchen so the tour takes about 5 minutes. Or just say you've been there before. I would absolutely come back if i was in the area, the beers were great, the bathroom was clean and the people nice. Can't wait to see them grow in the future read more

In spite of the industrial park setting, the owners brew beer that tastes as good as it gets, and they only opened in February, 2014! Millpond Drive is off State Route 94 between Lafayette and US Route 206. There isn't much signage from the front and with parking is in the back and alongside the building, a first timer would think the place closed. Entry is through the front, and warm and friendly staff helped describe available beers. Sample flights are reasonably priced as are glasses. Everyone seemed to have a growler to bring in for filling. Anyone purchasing beer for consumption must go on a tour of the brewery. I'm not a brewer, so the guide was informative and gave me background on the process. The Double IPA was my favorite, but not sure this is always on the menu. read more

Great little family brewery with the delicious standard beers. There weren't many seasonals when I was there in August, but I think they have a few coming out soon. Really liked the Summit Up IPA.
