i'm on the hunt for the best sourdough in the east bay. unfortunately, the blue corn and rye sourdough loaf i got at forma was both $12 (albeit for a large loaf) and definitely burnt on the top. but the ham and cheese croissant was perfectly laminated and buttery. i got there on a sunday afternoon, but the line moved pretty quickly. it's a nice spot to eat a pastry and people watch. read more

Dear sweet holy Jesus. These are the greatest croissants I've ever had. I get there at 8 AM on Saturday just so I don't have to wait in the line but even then sometime people have gotten there before me. I will happily wait in line but I have to tie my dog up outside- although they are dog friendly she is not line friendly- and seeing her sadly stare at me while I wait is the worst. So I try to get there first. If you see us, she is the big brown dog looking depressed early Saturday morning. Also, the country loaf is phenomenal. I have tried a variety of the croissants and they have all been extraordinary. I love this place. read more

The croissants and the bread are top notch and very, very similar to what you would get at Fournée. The croissants are similar in presentation, taste, and even use the same butter. The chocolate croissants also hit the same: the chocolate is the right amount and it's even throughout, not too thick nor too thin. The prices are comparable, but slightly higher at Forma, for what I think is comparable quality. Maybe Fournée would rank slightly higher in my book, but if I had to do a blind taste I'd probably fail it. Anyway, I'm comparing the two so much because Fournée is imo the best bakery in the bay at what they do, so this is meant as high praise. Among the non-viennoiseries you'll find Mexican-inspired conchas and wedding cookies. From my limited experience of Mexican pastries I'd say these are authentic but not traditional. They have vegan pastries which are also great. This selection is what sets apart the two bakeries the most. Bread came in later (some problem with the oven?) but now that they are operational their country bread is easily the best you can get in the Temescal/Piedmont/Rockridge area. They do half loaves if you ask nicely. read more

I had the Iced Horchata Latte that had a really good cinnamon creamy flavor, and the strawberry jam & flan pastry, which had crunchy laminated layers that contrasted beautifully with rich creamy center & tart strawberry jam. aesthetic: 4/5 food: 6/5 service: 5/5 tldr: run, don't walk, to forma!! i am ECSTATIC to have discovered and say i've become a regular at forma, the bay's yummiest vegan bakery!! for the fall menu, i got the mylk bread loaf, persimmon and chocolate pistachio croissants, and the savoury kale scone. my non-vegan friends tried them and we agreed they were all equally heavenly, appearance and taste-wise. the croissants are not overly buttery + sweet -- i could easily eat two in a sitting because they're that perfectly indulgent. the workers are so nice and patient with helping me decide what to order at each visit, and they pour such beautiful latte art too. that is always a mood booster and a plus when everything comes in to-go style :') the olla latte is a must-try, and their alternative mylk options are free of charge. i'm so happy to have this amazing french-mexican-inspired bakery in the bay -- i love the unique fusion twists on their croissant and pastry goodies, and i'm excited to see what their upcoming offerings are. you 10000% gotta add forma bakery to your next bakery crawl!! read more

The bakery has a super cute, modern minimalist aesthetic with some outdoor seating. The workers are very sweet, and although there was a line, it moved rather quickly. I tried the chocolate croissant, almond croissant, and blueberry cream cheese danish. The almond croissant had a great texture, and the blueberry danish was flavorful. However, I wish the chocolate in the croissant was more melted. It was just a bar of chocolate but the croissant itself was still good. Forma has consistently been my go-to for bread and baked goods over the past year. The bread is a fantastic combination of super crusty exterior and soft insides, and they sell half-loaves, which is excellent for us single people. I especially like their bread with blue corn masa. I enjoy their Earl Grey passionfruit morning bun--just enough passionfruit, their jalapeño cheddar rolls, and their Mexican wedding cookies. The owner's father is incredibly nice, too. read more

The sourdough rye loaf is phenomenal-it's as good if not better than my favorite in the city from Jane's. Crispy exterior, soft but not underbaked inside, and a true sour punch. I have been here three times now and have gotten a different croissant every time. However, I have tried to go here a total of 5 times and twice now they have been closed. On the door sign it says open Wednesday-Sunday, but I tried to go last Wednesday at 10 and they were closed. Another time they had closed early I guess, not sure which day it was. Their google maps business page says they are open on Mondays which is also wrong, so they should change that. Regular croissant: 9/10 Almond croissant: 10/10 Chocolate almond croissant: 10/10 The regular croissant was very good to me but not quite perfect, but the two sweet croissants had a great filling to pastry ratio. However, I got a drip coffee from here one of the times I went and 1. it was a bit too fruity/ had added flavor notes I didn't quite like and 2. the lid snapped on but still spilled all over when I walked back home. Not sure about the mechanics of the cup and lid but that was disappointing. read more

And the rest of the pastries were from vegan baked goods: chocolate concha, croissants: chocolate and chocolate pistachio. All were tasty. The store was inviting and service was friendly. Amazing vegan pastries! About half their offerings are vegan. I went Saturday around 1:00 PM; most items were still in stock and there was no wait. I got a pistachio croissant (v) and a vanilla concha (v). The croissant texture was the best I've had from a vegan croissant and the filling was exceptional! Noticed the bright blue Forma Bakery sign while eating lunch across the street at Cholita Linda and after reading the reviews on Yelp I knew I had to check it out. The display case on the counter featured the pastries that were available. I really wanted to try the croissant with flan and strawberry jam, but it was sold out. I purchased a chocolate croissant and it did not disappoint. While not quite at the same level as the croissants in Paris, Forma Bakery makes a very good chocolate croissant. I liked the flavor of the croissant itself and it had two good size channels of chocolate inside. I would totally buy it again. I also purchased a sugar cookie. I wasn't as impressed by the cookie and will stick with the croissant. read more
