I highly recommend coming to Forma! The sweet croissant pastries have a delicious caramelized sugar coating on the bottom which gives them a great crunch. I swear the first time I had their almond croissant, it was the best one I ever had that I had to go again a few days later! The mexican chocolate croissant and the flan strawberry jam croissant were also incredible! Best bakery in the Bay Area! read more

Tried Forma Bakery over the weekend and was disappointed. The croissant and sliced bread loaf were overbaked to the point of tasting burnt, and neither had much flavor. For the price, I think Acme's sourdough offers far better quality and taste, and even Costco's croissants are a better value. Unfortunately, this felt like a waste of both time and money. read more

Expensive but hands down the best pastries in the area. Try the vegan and savory pastries

One of my favorite bakeries around. Forms not only delivers on excellent pastries and breads, but the coffee is amazing. The baristas know what they are doing, and I love the horchata latte is my favorite. Just like other local bakeries, you have to get there early to be sure the full Menu is available but it's worth it. Also the vegan options are just as tasty, flaky and buttery as non vegan options. Great little spot to grab something special. read more

Wow. We were walking through Oakland, and decided to stop by Forma. The line was kinda long, but no more than a 5 minute wait. Tons of vegan versions of the pastries, which I was impressed by, but they honestly did not look good in comparison to the normal pastries. I got the berry kouign amann, and this was absolutely amazing. The best kouign amann I've ever had, and that's including B Patissierie among many others. Just the perfect crisp, flakiness, and sticky sugariness. The berry jam inside was barely sweet, but added a lovely tartness to the pastry. Just amazing. Please stop by and try their kouign amann. I'll be back to try a bunch more other stuff! read more

Great place! I got a chocolate croissant, chocolate almond croissant, flan+strawberry pastry, and bread with blue corn. All the pastries were crisp and delicious! I can see the resemblance to Fournée (but I do prefer Fournee's chocolate almond). Crust of the bread was so good but sadly I felt the bread was underbaked. Still would recommend and return to this bakery! Staff were friendly and efficient read more

I have been wanting to try this bakery for a while and it was so worth the wait. The line was long but moved very quickly. I ordered the french onion croissant, flan croissant, and tres leches iced coffee. Everything was spectacular, 10/10. My favorite was the flan croissant, such a brilliant idea and the execution was perfect - that's a must order! I'm not a big coffee drinker but the tres leches is the best coffee I've ever had and went perfectly with the pastries. I highly recommend this spot as its definitely one of the best bakeries I've tried in Oakland! read more

Forma Bakery is an exciting new addition to Telegraph Avenue! The croissants and cookies are delicious and ( given their ingredients) surprisingly reasonably priced! The bakery is only opened from 8 am to 2:30 Wednesdays- Sundays! read more

I visited this bakery twice this week and sampled their croissant selection. I tried their regular croissant, chocolate croissant, ham and cheese croissant, and their flan croissant. The flan croissant was definitely the standout--delicious overall, though I wish they had been more generous with the flan filling in the center. Everything else in my sampling was whatever, nothing particularly memorable. If you're craving truly exceptional croissants, I'd recommend heading to Starter Bakery on College instead. Their croissants are significantly better than what you'll find here. read more

I've been coming here since they opened, and pretty regularly at that. I do realize prices have increased on ingredients, everyone is feeling it, but the pastries are smaller and the filling is scant. When I stopped by this weekend for a couple of pastries I really noticed it. $11 for two croissants isn't exactly inexpensive...and I can't really justify it if I can eat one in a couple of bites and barely find the filling. Such a bummer because I really enjoyed Forma when they initially opened. I do still enjoy the cookies, so maybe I'll just come for those. read more

This is such a fantastic bakery and coffee shop on Temescal. By far, the best bakery in the neighborhood. I have tried many different pastries and their coffee and can vouch for both! Their pastries have a Mexican influence and especially enjoy their croissants which are super flaky and their sugar cookies with the sprinkles (my favorite pastries they have honestly). The staff is very friendly and service is quick. There are some benches outside to enjoy on on a nice day. This place is a hidden gem and I am a regular here. read more

I enjoyed their pastries and sourdough but they're pricey. The concha was $4.95/each and most of the bread loaves around $12. While both were tasty, I'll probably go to Latin bakeries more regularly for pastry and bread; Forma if I'm in the area. read more

Delicious baked goods. Be prepared for a bit of a line on the weekends, but it moves quickly and is worth the wait!

Incredible croissants With lots of options and several other pastries. All amazing. This absolutely filling a gap in this area. Breads look amazing but have not tried them yet. read more

I purchased various laminated pastries and a walnut sourdough bread. Good: everything looks beautiful, regular croissant is good, but not very flavorful. Bad: no flavor or super mild flavor in savory pastries. That is very hard to accomplish. The bread looked great, but surprisingly had no flavor. The nuts were very stale and bitter throughout the loaf. I will not be returning. Additionally, the place is pricey. read more

Their Vegan pastries are delicious and service was excellent very friendly and I would definitely come back when I'm in the area.

Our server was so rude today I felt the need to post. She was quite short and terse but whatever. We ordered 3 pastries, a sandwich, and a large bread. Everything was thrown in the bag haphazardly and the veggie sandwich was placed upside down in the bag. So the avocado and veggies were smeared all over the bag. To the owners, if you sell really long breads, purchase a sleeve or something to put it in. The pastries were decent (except for the lemon one which had an artificial taste resulting in a bad aftertaste.) We won't go back, based on today's experience. read more

Awesome new bakery from Jackson Schnetz, son of noted local restauranteur Tom Schnetz. Incredible croissants, great Mexican coffee and more. Come early, they close when they sell out. The best ingredients, made by pros who care about quality. read more

The bread is very flavorful and enjoyable. However, I was disappointed with the almond croissant. it's overly sweet by a couple of notches, which overwhelms the almond flavor. I hope they consider reducing the sugar a bit. read more

as far as quality goes, this place is great. cafe de olla and a pistachio croissant? yes. loaf of milk bread? absolutely! that said.. the outside blue color panel design of the shop is a downside. it gestures towards the whole foods on the corner, when this area could align more with the local library across the street. or the sweetness of their treats and the nice tile inside the shop. read more

Fin got to try this place, as they close at around 230p. By noon, they've run out of the tres leches latte so come early for that. There were still plenty of pastries left and the flan with strawberry jam was delightful. It was surprisingly sticky, crispy exterior, soft and airy interior, and merely heavenly. Flan inside a pastry is purely genius and I'm all for it :') read more

Plain normal (not plant based) croissant not worth the calories. Has a decent flakey texture but no flavor - not buttery enough

Amazing vegan pastries -- the passion fruit morning bun, pistachio chocolate croissant, and chocolate croissant are our favorites! The bread is also amazing -- high hydration and flavorful. Lovely addition to the neighborhood! read more

Light and airy deliciousness! Just amazing plant based options. Best vegan croissant I've ever had. There can be a wait but it is worth it. They do offer pre order 48 hours ahead a time. Make sure to check the hours and they do sell out so good idea to come on the earlier side. read more

i'm on the hunt for the best sourdough in the east bay. unfortunately, the blue corn and rye sourdough loaf i got at forma was both $12 (albeit for a large loaf) and definitely burnt on the top. but the ham and cheese croissant was perfectly laminated and buttery. i got there on a sunday afternoon, but the line moved pretty quickly. it's a nice spot to eat a pastry and people watch. read more

Dear sweet holy Jesus. These are the greatest croissants I've ever had. I get there at 8 AM on Saturday just so I don't have to wait in the line but even then sometime people have gotten there before me. I will happily wait in line but I have to tie my dog up outside- although they are dog friendly she is not line friendly- and seeing her sadly stare at me while I wait is the worst. So I try to get there first. If you see us, she is the big brown dog looking depressed early Saturday morning. Also, the country loaf is phenomenal. I have tried a variety of the croissants and they have all been extraordinary. I love this place. read more

I decided to review because Forma is new and needs pix and reviews! I had the Iced Horchata Latte that had a really good cinnamon creamy flavor, and the strawberry jam & flan pastry, which had crunchy laminated layers that contrasted beautifully with rich creamy center & tart strawberry jam. I gotta come back and try the other pastries as Im intrigued about vegan selection. Small bakery with no seating inside, but a set of tables and chairs outside. read more

Update everyone!! Their tres leches coffee is still super good and I TRIED THE CHOCOLATE ALMOND CROISSANT, IT WAS SOOOO GOOD. The only thing is that the past couple of times I came, they always had run out of a lot of their really good croissants, and they typically run out very early in the morning. They don't have a phone number either and they say if you want to order on their website, you have to preorder 2 days in advance to secure your pastry for 2 days later which is kind of inconvenient :(. I wish they could make more of their popular items more frequently or maybe getting a phone for the business so customers can at least call and see if the pastry is in stock or not. Besides that, no complaints their items are superrrr good. read more

The croissants and the bread are top notch and very, very similar to what you would get at Fournée. The croissants are similar in presentation, taste, and even use the same butter. The chocolate croissants also hit the same: the chocolate is the right amount and it's even throughout, not too thick nor too thin. The prices are comparable, but slightly higher at Forma, for what I think is comparable quality. Maybe Fournée would rank slightly higher in my book, but if I had to do a blind taste I'd probably fail it. Anyway, I'm comparing the two so much because Fournée is imo the best bakery in the bay at what they do, so this is meant as high praise. Among the non-viennoiseries you'll find Mexican-inspired conchas and wedding cookies. From my limited experience of Mexican pastries I'd say these are authentic but not traditional. They have vegan pastries which are also great. This selection is what sets apart the two bakeries the most. Bread came in later (some problem with the oven?) but now that they are operational their country bread is easily the best you can get in the Temescal/Piedmont/Rockridge area. They do half loaves if you ask nicely. read more

New bakery that I stumbled upon, and I'll likely become a regular! Minimalist shop and they've sold out of their popular flavors. I had the chocolate concha and it was light, fluffy, and not overwhelmingly sweet. Their lattes were also delicious and not overly priced. read more

Forma Bakery - Bakeries Near Me - Oakland, California

The bakery has a super cute, modern minimalist aesthetic with some outdoor seating. The workers are very sweet, and although there was a line, it moved rather quickly. I tried the chocolate croissant, almond croissant, and blueberry cream cheese danish. The almond croissant had a great texture, and the blueberry danish was flavorful. However, I wish the chocolate in the croissant was more melted. It was just a bar of chocolate but the croissant itself was still good. I'd love to try the other pastries earlier in the day, I think it would make a difference. read more

aesthetic: 4/5 food: 6/5 service: 5/5 tldr: run, don't walk, to forma!! i am ECSTATIC to have discovered and say i've become a regular at forma, the bay's yummiest vegan bakery!! for the fall menu, i got the mylk bread loaf, persimmon and chocolate pistachio croissants, and the savoury kale scone. my non-vegan friends tried them and we agreed they were all equally heavenly, appearance and taste-wise. the croissants are not overly buttery + sweet -- i could easily eat two in a sitting because they're that perfectly indulgent. the workers are so nice and patient with helping me decide what to order at each visit, and they pour such beautiful latte art too. that is always a mood booster and a plus when everything comes in to-go style :') the olla latte is a must-try, and their alternative mylk options are free of charge. i'm so happy to have this amazing french-mexican-inspired bakery in the bay -- i love the unique fusion twists on their croissant and pastry goodies, and i'm excited to see what their upcoming offerings are. you 10000% gotta add forma bakery to your next bakery crawl!! read more

Forma Bakery - 10 delicious vegan pastry choices. - Bakeries Near Me - Oakland, California

fabulous! we bought a lot so we could try many things and they were all delicious. I particularly loved the earl grey morning bun!

Forma has consistently been my go-to for bread and baked goods over the past year. The bread is a fantastic combination of super crusty exterior and soft insides, and they sell half-loaves, which is excellent for us single people. I especially like their bread with blue corn masa. I enjoy their Earl Grey passionfruit morning bun--just enough passionfruit, their jalapeño cheddar rolls, and their Mexican wedding cookies. The owner's father is incredibly nice, too. read more

This place is outstanding. Great selection, lots of vegan options, and they rotate in new things too.

Best place ever! If you love pastries and a good sandwich, this is the place. I can eat bread from here every single day.
