I just got one of the best massages I've ever had from Kenya at Form + Function and have to share that experience! Before we got started, she asked what we were wanting to achieve in this session rather than going with a standard approach. I told her I run quite a bit and do Camp Gladiator for cross training where my legs and upper back seem to suffer the most after the workouts. She focused on those areas and found knots and previous injuries' scar tissue that I had no clue were still impacting my overall muscular health. Kenya was very communicative throughout the session and asked if she was going too hard to make sure I was comfortable, or at least okay with not being comfortable for my own good. She did a combination of stretching and deep tissue massage to get me feeling 100X better than I did when I waked in. Beyond the masseuse, the facility was super clean and comfortable decorated in local Austin crafts and art. It wasn't over-the-top fancy and it wasn't east-side hipster - they found the perfect medium of comfortably clean and cost effective. I'm glad I chose this local business that also supports other locals. All in all, I can't recommend Kenya and Form + Function enough and I'll be going back regularly. read more

I was waiting a week to write a review and make sure I was still pain free and holy moly I found my new place! So often massages leave you temporarily pain free, but these guys are the real deal. I have chronic back pain and sit all day at work 8+ hours so my shoulders/back are always terribly tense, and they got out knots and twists I didn't even know I had! Studio and massage table very comfy as well. I have been recommending this place to all my friends- it feels like I went to a chiropractor, that's how good it was! Can't wait for my next visit! Coming in from Houston, I booked a last minute couple's massage for my husband and me. There's a sign on the door that states that to wait outside until your appointment time or come in when the door's unlocked. We were offered water, signed our liability papers, and escorted to our room. We were in two separate rooms, and we had a chance to discuss what our problems areas were. Kenia is amazinggg! My physical therapist suggested I get a deep tissue massage for an injury. When I met Kenia and tried to explain why I was in PT, I didn't have the exact medical terms and forgot to ask my physical therapist for details to give the massage therapist, but she knew exactly what I was talking about! I've had massages all around the world. Been to high end spas and had people come to my home. I can honestly say none of them compare to Melissa at Form and Function Massage. She gets into the heart of your trouble spots and really looks to help in the long term not just the short term. The space is airy, bright, clean, and relaxing and Melissa herself is so incredibly kind and relaxing. They offer all different lengths of appointments but I recommend as much time as you can! There is also an option to buy a package at a reduced rate from just hourly which makes taking care of yourself even easier. F&F was such a joy to find! Had a 60 minute massage with Abby and it was wonderful. She did great fascial work without making me cry :) Only complaint I have is that during my session, I could hear voices that were very loud in the reception area, but the music mostly drowned them out. Where do I even begin with Form + Function? I've had pain and major tension in my neck, shoulders, and down my back from a neck injury a few years ago. And with just two massages and cupping sessions here, a lot of my knots are dissolving. I've gone to Liz both times, and just booked a 5 session package with her because she is a freaking godsend. She really knows the body, understands exactly what you need, and will get into every knot. The difference I've experienced from other massage studios/spas is that you don't just get a nice massage and just leave feeling good, but I can feel my body truly healing. I was in Austin for a work conference, but on the last day, our hotel was evacuated early due to a major water pipe burst. My mom happened to be in town, too, so I called several places trying to get us both last minute massages on a Thursday morning. I'm glad the first few didn't have appointments available because Form + Function was great find! My mom has been getting massages around the world for over 30 years and is very particular. She has a frozen shoulder and also suffered a traumatic brain injury a few years ago. It can be challenging to find a massage therapist skilled enough to provide her with true relief without causing unintended pain or other issues. She was really impressed with Melissa and plans to drive 30 minutes round trip to go back later this week before leaving town. That says a lot coming from my mom! My massage was with Kenia and it was also very good. I'll be back in Austin in July. Not only will I make an appointment or two for myself during my short stay, but I also plan on recommending to my coworkers. Cute space albeit not spa-like. Great prices. After reading rave reviews I was surprisingly very disappointed in my experience at Form + Function. From the start, the environment felt very unprofessional. The person who checked me in was wearing her mask below her nose and she also ended up being the masseuse. When she entered the massage room, she kept the lights on and never sanitized her hands. The massage itself was far from relaxing and I walked out feeling worse than when I came in. Needless to say I won't be going back. read more

Ok I've had plenty of massages in my life but this was NEXT LEVEL. I don't think what I asked for from the massage therapist (Emily) was anything relaxing.. my whole body was in pain and i needed help. I booked an 120 min massage and she got to work with cupping as well (an add-on). I still have like 20 purple circles everywhere but she got out a knot in my shoulder nobody has ever taken the time to. She even could tell I tend clench my jaw and did some work around there. 10/10 love this place. Great price point as well. read more

Besides it being affordable ($40/30 mins) it's really close (it's on East 6th) to my job so I can go right after work instead of sitting in traffic for an hour. Don't be late like me, but they did call to check in, and were accommodating when I said I was running a bit behind. JEN IS AMAZING. I had to do a shout out because she is a lifesaver. I'm naturally anxious and get knots on my back easily, but they were knocked out no problem by her. More than that, Jen's technique and personality helped me relax and calm down when I needed to badly. They offer a complimentary hot tea, the location is small but the the massage room and table are clean and well-styled. I was in town for a wedding recently and was in need of a massage. I am so glad I came across Form and Function and Elijah. I regularly receive massage treatments in New York City and have gotten massages all over the world on my travels. My session with Elijah was definitely one of the very best I have ever experienced in my lifetime. The space itself is very clean and the therapy rooms are equipped with high quality massage tables that are very comfortable. Elijah took his time at the beginning to get to know my background and problem spots. From there, he worked his magic going meticulously through my entire body and really concentrating on the areas that were particularly tight. The techniques he used made it clear he was well-versed in massage therapy. I felt incredibly refreshed immediately following the end of the massage. So much so that I booked Elijah for an appointment the following week as I just so happened to be in town again for a friend's bachelor party. My experience here was awesome. I have been dealing with some back and neck aches for years due to working a 9-5 job at a desk for about 7 years at this point. I lost a bunch of weight, started running, and started lifting weights; and I really began to feel the tightness more and more. It was also limiting my mobility, which is incredibly important. Kari, my therapist, really listened to and put together a massage that has made a significant improvement after just one 90 minute session. I found Form + Function Massage on Yelp. I was looking for a place that focused on the biomechanics of the musculoskeletal system rather than connecting with one's inner truth or something along those lines. "Form + Function" seemed to communicate what I was looking for, so I checked the reviews, and all of the ones I took seriously were five stars. I looked through the therapist bios and connected most with Kari's. I appreciate the wide ranges of focus here. Getting a massage requires a certain degree of trust and comfort, and there seems to be someone for everyone here. She was the ideal choice, so I booked an appointment with her. When I arrived, I parked on the street. The studio (parlor? spa?) is in one of those apartment/office buildings with street level shops. This particular one did not have prominent signage for the shops, so the entrance to Form + function was not immediately obvious. Don't worry though, it's there. Kari was the only person there at the time. I assume this is to encourage social distancing and make sanitization simpler. There is a lot of natural light in the waiting area as well as earth colors, which I liked. I had to fill out two forms, one with basic medical and emergency contact information as well as an acknowledgement of various parameters of what to expect from the massage. The other was a COVID release form. I was very comfortable signing the COVID release since the table is sanitized between clients, and Kari and I were both wearing masks the entire time. After exchanging pleasantries and filling out the required forms, we went back to the massage room. The room was dimly lit and had soft music playing. There were two empty hangers on a wall and a third with a white robe in the event you need to use the bathroom mid-massage. The table was quite large and extremely sturdy. It was your standard setup: flat with a fitted sheet, a top sheet, a quilted sheet and a hole for your face to go into when you lay face down. The table was long enough to accommodate me on my back comfortably without feeling like I was hanging off either side (I'm 6 feet tall). We briefly went over the work I wanted her to do. I told her about the areas that I knew about, but that she should feel free to use her expertise to figure out everything that needed work. After this, she told me to dress down to my level of comfort and to get under the sheet. After she left the room and shut the door, I did that. When Kari came back, she knocked to make sure I was under the sheet and covered. During the massage, Kari was very professional, easy-going, and down-to-earth. We talked about my fitness goals, her shared interest in fitness and health, shared nerdiness over math and engineering, etc. She let me take the lead for conversation and even let me know some muscular imbalances that I didn't realize I had as well as some ways to improve them. She was very communicative as well and conscious of my comfort with what she was doing. The massage was very relaxing even though we did a lot of trigger point work. Kari really used the right amount of pressure to induce the hurts-so-good sensation. Most importantly, she really did take her time to figure out what needed to be worked on and found some tightness and imbalances that I didn't know about. Once the massage was complete, Kari left the room, I got dressed, and went out to the front to pay. Today, where I had trouble relaxing my shoulders, now I am able to do so easily. There is still some tightness, but that goes to show you how much work they needed. I am also able to bend over completely at the waist without feeling any tightness or knots in my back. I've talked about the experience of the massage itself, but the most striking thing for me was the way I was cared for. The way Kari not only gave me a massage but used her diet and fitness experience to ensure that I was informed on how to have a well-functioning body showed me that she genuinely willed what was best for me rather than what she was obligated to provide. It was all genuinely useful to both confirm that I was on the right path in certain areas while also better informing me on how I can optimize and improve in other areas. I think she genuinely wants me to be better tomorrow than I am today. That's a special quality that can be hard to find these days. I have already scheduled another appointment for even longer. I got my hubby a massage for Father's Day this past weekend at Form and Function. We have been here many times and it's always amazing, this time was no exception! My husband Dustin, had Kari as his therapist and he couldn't say enough amazing things about her! (I started to get a little jealous in fact ;)) He said Kari was very knowledgeable, and also professional in that she allowed him to zone out and not have to carry on conversation while trying to relax. She hit all of the spots that he mentioned feeling achy in, and He felt loose and relaxed when he left. Also I should add that many precautions were taken to adhere to COVID-19 worries. Sanitation was adhered to strictly, and the therapist wore a mask. We will certainly be returning to Form and Function frequently! read more

I arrive and the atmosphere is just so zen and welcoming! I immediately fell in love. Sophia was my massage therapist for the evening. I went through a brief consultation of what was going on with my shoulder. I booked a 30 min session wishing I had booked it longer but I was on a time frame and sporadically made my appointment last minute. I had a little trouble booking online (user error), but I called the location and the problem was solved. She handled the call efficiently and professionally.
