I came in here for a 90 minute massage and sadly was very disappointed. The masseuse was kind, but unfortunately was unable to hit the proper spots to make the massage feel therapeutic. There were a few spots that felt good, but I would say maybe 10 minutes of the entire massage was enjoyable. I know it was late in the day so it very well could have been because the masseuse was tired. I thought the room was a bit too bright as well. I scheduled a last-minute two-hour massage with Elijah, and I cannot say enough good things about my experience. The space was in transition as they are getting ready to relocate, but neither he nor the owner allowed that to impede upon a sense of warmth and welcome they have created. He was attentive to my needs and provided the perfect balance of conversation to get me comfortable but quietude once I was able to relax so that I could get the most out of our session. Also a total bonus that he's familiar with Ayurveda, which I practice, so we had a common language to speak from. I loved the way the space smelled so much that I purchased some of the goods they carry (soy candle that smells divine and some palo santo wood to burn at my house). They were both excellent, with strong hands and deep knowledge of the body and how it functions. I recommend 1.5 hours to be able to address more than one area. We were in Austin for a long weekend and got a wild hair and decided to get massages. I personally do not need frou frou, I need theraputic, deep tissue or I am just throwing my money away. I have a really physical job and tend to be a mess. I told them what I was after and they had me make an appt with Eli. He was spot on the perfect person for what I needed. I was sore the next day in a good way, and could actually look over my shoulder... it had been a while. I wish I lived in the area, because I would be a regular for sure and I am a massage snot. My friend who wanted a more relaxing massage (rather than crazy deep tissue/theraputic) also loved her appt. They got me in with an hour's notice on a Sunday and saw both my friends the next day, it was beyond accomodating. This place is relaxing, has a nice variety in the talent pool, and is in no way pretentious. This was my first visit to Form Function and was really happy with it being in such a good location, easy street parking and a creative space. I loved that they support local artists and find it to be clean, warm and welcoming on the inside. My masseuse was HanChing and she was able to start with my focus spots and I will say really was able to focus on those spots. I've been to many places before that ask similar questions and then do what feels like the same routine... no focus on those spots. HanChing was much different! She was very aware of what spots needed extra attention and ensured pressure was comfortable. I was impressed by her professionalism and technique. Kenia is the best! She is so knowledgable and provides instant relief from the pain I've been experiencing. When I talk to her about my issues she knows why it's happening, where to apply pressure and gives me tips/exercises to do at home for relief. I highly recommend her! Also, relating to COVID-19, the place is kept clean and sanitized, they keep clients away from each other by having one wait outside while someone is being checked in or paying, and they check the temperatures of client and therapist before every massage. I went to Form & Function the first time because I had a burning knot in one of my shoulders. I chose them because they were close to my office (within walking distance) and they had immediate appointments available for 30 minute customized massages. The place itself is aesthetically pleasing with light colors and natural accents that calm you as soon as you walk in the doors. I selected an appointment with HanChing because it was the first available. She greeted me at the door with a warm smile. Once in the massage room, she asked all the question to determine exactly what I needed and my favorite part is that she broke down how much time she'd spend in each area and if that sounded like it would be a good plan. The massage itself was wonderful - perfect amount of pressure and exactly what we discussed beforehand. I left, walked back to my office, got online and made another appointment. I prefer the online scheduler so that I don't have to continually ask if they have openings on specific days and at specific times. This is a very convenient feature for me. At my second appointment, which I scheduled in advanced, I chose a 60 minute customized massage with HanChing and it was the same wonderful process and experience all over again. I had been going to the same place for almost a year, but the convenience of Form + Function's location and scheduling as well as HanChing's expert massage and the calm facility have convinced me to jump ship from my previous place. read more
