Fork Lore was able to accommodate our large family after my COVID minimony! We hosted a goodbye breakfast with 20 people and no restaurant would take us in. First time for us, eating in their small outside area. Waitress seemed overworked, very nice, but it took a long time to get anything. I got a wedge salad, not bad, but not quite as good as the version sold by 131 Main right across the street, then a chicken/peppers/onions dish with roasted carrots and cauliflower. The chicken was very thin and dry (perhaps only part of a breast going by its size), with the topping pleasant, if not exceptional. The carrots were very good, but the broccoli very plain. Her dish was fish and not bad, with a very good salad appetizer. The prices seem excessive for the quantity and quality served. Not a huge menu, and we have no real incentive to go back, especially with the many other options in the area. read more

We made reservations for dinner to celebrate my birthday. The restaurant was previously Roux which we really liked. We had been told that they were going to build a new restaurant at the far end of the lobby. We got there and the old restaurant was dark, and seating for Fork Lore was in the bar area. My wife had received an email with their "special", but they had run out by 6:00 pm on Sunday. Our second choice was out also. It took forever to get our drinks and even longer for the meal. My wife's 3rd choice was jerk chicken which was tough and her baby carrots were mushy. My beef tenderloin was okay but the roasted potatoes were like leftovers. Best part of the meal was a double shot of Angel's Envy for $25. Maybe it was because it was a Sunday, but they were under-staffed and the meal was mediocre at best. Sometimes inconveniences turn into blessings. We were visiting Asheville for the first time this weekend and I just did not have time to do my research to ensure I knew the best restaurants to hit while in town. After finding out the 30% occupancy rule that had been put in place the week before we knew getting in anywhere like that in Asheville would be difficult. We settled on just eating at the restaurant in our hotel the first night, but never dreamed we would be getting a fine dining experience. All four of us in our party were absolutely blown away with the limited but excellent choices and all of our meals were prepared perfectly and were so delicious. The service was wonderful as well. The bartender makes excellent cocktails. I have zero complaints! We had planned on doing breakfast somewhere else but ended up eating breakfast here both days as well and it was equally as wonderful experience! I highly recommend giving this place a try whether you are a local or just in town visiting! read more

What a pleasant place for breakfast/brunch. I had some family in town recently and all 8 of us wanted some Sunday brunch without a wait. One of my cousins looked on Open Table and saw that Roux had availability for all of us to sit and eat at the time that was necessary. I arrived after my party had been seated. The restaurant is inside of the Hilton hotel in Biltmore park and let me say, it looks like a hotel breakfast bar at its' finest. The moment we arrived, coffee was served and there was ample seating available. Not a very busy restaurant. Not only did they have a massive breakfast bar with anything from your traditional scrambled eggs to fresh omelets and a variety of breakfast meats but, they also have a full menu. I chose to hold off on the buffet because I never eat my weight in food so, I chose to have the chicken and waffles with Sriracha butter and maple syrup. I thought made the best choice ever! When it arrived, the waffle was good, there wasn't enough butter, and the chicken was a little rubbery. The flavors were all there just not enough! I also tasted the bacon and biscuits which were great! It's hard to screw up bacon and biscuits from a can. Overall, the food and coffee was A-OK but the fact that there is no wait for a big breakfast is nice. A solid 3 stars for me! read more

This restaurant, in the Hilton, is fantastic for breakfast! They had locally sourced everything- bread, cheese, vegetables, as much as possible. The very European-style continental breakfast was satisfying with local cheese, organic fresh baked goods, and fruits! The hot buffet had southern favorites and made-to-order omelettes, pancakes, and waffles! Delicious but a little pricey for both. Delightful and unexpected. A caveat that I only came here for breakfast. Yes, it's located in the Bilmore Park Hilton lobby. Yes, it's kitted out exactly like thousands of other hotel lobby restaurants with overly fancy culinary-linked titles. If you're like me, you come to expect hotel breakfasts to be horrible and are quietly hoping that is is merely bad. But Roux is different. Their buffet superficially appears like other buffets - standard fare of pancakes, sausages, bacon, omelettes, roated potatoes, etc. But then you'll start to notice that this isn't standard defrosted service-pack fare. Little delightful differences shine through. "Hey, their coffee isn't bad. Actually, it's pretty good.", I said. "Hmmm... they're eggs are organic. And the ingredients look fresh. Hey, wow, the chef actually knows how to make an omelette. And what's that? He's nice and genuinely wishing me well?" "The roasted potatoes have some roasted singe on them. And there's fresh spice on them. What witchcraft is this?" And then there is the bacon. Now THIS is bacon. This could very well be the very best bacon I have ever had. Country thick. Perfectly cooked - crispy without being burned, still chewy without all the flavor/fat rendered off, and oh... I might need a moment alone with this bacon. Service from our waitress and hostess was fantastic. The cooks were whipping out ala carte dishes and omelettes quickly. Unfortunately, the busboys were milling around and waiting for goodness knows what. But the hostess stepped up and more than made up for what I hope was their lack of experience and not laziness. Those two ladies got cash tips in their hands because they more than made up for their not so motivated coworkers. Net-net, great service. The price - not too shabby. So, my wallet didn't get ravaged, service was great, food was pretty good, and the bacoooooooooooooonnmm[drool]omnonononom. A bit of advice, Roux still has the look and feel of a hotel breakfast buffet area, so I might not come here for a first date - but okay if you're a been married for awhile. Aah, Roux...the last restaurant in Biltmore Park at which I had not dined. This was a mistake. Being in the lobby of the Hilton, having a name like Roux, dim lighting, full bar, I expected a pretty expensive place serving up steaks and things I can only afford every once in a while. I was incorrect in this assumption. The AIR Passport brought us in here. Seriously, y'all, you're doing yourself a disservice if you don't have one of those things. Google it. But I digress. The place was pretty quiet, owing partly to it being a pretty miserable Saturday night, all cold and rainy. It livened up shortly after we sat down when a guy in the hotel lobby surprised his girlfriend with a surprise marriage proposal featuring her entire family and all of their friends. Even with that, though, the restaurant was prepared and handled all of them, along with us, with no problem. Our server, Autumn, was just fantastic. She was friendly, knew the menu top to bottom, despite having only been working there a short time. It is the prices that wowed us here. Our appetizer seemed like a steal. $5 for a hummus and olive plate? I'll bite. Absurdly awesome amount of delicious hummus and a great selection of 4 different types of olive. I'd have gladly paid $10 for it, but the menu had it listed at $5. Imagine my surprise when the bill came, and it turned out the menu was wrong. It was only $4! Entrees were both delicious. We had crab cakes for one (full of lump crab, delicious sides), and an open-faced meatloaf sandwich for the other. Pains me to admit that this meatloaf owns mine. Finished it off with bread pudding and a drink from the bar. Got out for what would have been $65 with tip, but ended up being about $50 with the AIR Passport (did I mention get one?). This place is interesting. The food was really good. I had the salmon, and the salmon was perfectly cooked and the honey mustard glaze was incredible. The mashed potatoes were insanely good. I could eat a whole bowl of those. The only downside is for the environment. It's located in the lobby of the Hilton and it honestly feels like you're eating in a hotel lobby. The decor is a little dated and it was very quiet, at least when we were there. It makes for a slightly uncomfortable dining experience. i only had breakfast here cuz i stayed in the hotel. the only good thing about the breakfast buffet is the omelet bar. the chef is personable and there is a good selection of ingredients. they seem to really want to play the "local and seasonal" game, but 99% of the buffet was still mass produced and heavily processed. i did really appreciate having a salad on the breakfast menu though. it was hearty and delicious. all egg dishes seemed a tad too oily. coffee had a weird taste. raspberry was moldy. read more

Went today for brunch. I had a groupon so it was a great deal. Simple menu, I think they had an all you can eat sort of option but thats not my thing so I didnt really pay it much mind. The staff was great - friendly and attentive. I ordered an garden vegetable egg white omlette and my daughter got the grilled portabello bennie. I asked for the goat cheese (from 3 graces dairy) on the side and when delivered, I was happy to see they got it right and it was a very generous (and, of course, delicious) portion. I got the home fries as a side and I didnt dig them much but, to be honest, I'm generally not a fan of them. My little miss seemed to dig them and her entire meal very much. It was a wonderful time. We were staying at this property and saw that the restaurant had good reviews and pretty reasonable priced food for a hotel restaurant. In interest of convenience (not that around the hotel wasn't convenient) it was cold and my kids were almost ready to go to bed, we decided to stick around. Service was pretty good, staff is friendly and warm. However, our food took a LONG time to cook and came in wrong. They took another LONG time to fix it and by the time it came, we were already full on the sides (they never took the sides back so we had to cope with cold sides). The waiter apologized, it wasn't really his fault, but instead of giving us compensation he just gave a dessert. We were not even in a mood to eat our dinner at the time, who thinks about dessert? They even suggested we could take our food and eat for breakfast in the morning (????). The steaks, after they arrived, were not even that great. I would probably give it another try, but, before doing that I will make sure there are not other better options around. read more

We ate the Thanksgiving buffet, receiving one of the last reservations available. I thought that might be a bad sign (late in the evening, staff worn out, food tired and stale) but I was soooo wrong. We were seated immediately, our staff couldn't have been more cheerful!!! Sunday Brunch: honestly it would be hard to prepare worse tasting buffet food. Bacon was so overdone it was close to ashes, the French toast was similar to garlic bread which was weird and tasted awful. The made to order waffles arrive stone cold and rubbery. What you get for your $20 is honestly a very bad representation of a Holiday Inn's continental breakfast. Even worse that the food was the service which means none. Want coffee? I've had breakfast here a couple times and the brunch on Sunday is out of this world! I ate dinner here last night and it seems to be a well kept secret of Asheville. It was not too busy and the service was amazing. Julie at the front desk was a great help and had friendly and welcoming smile. She directed us to Catie who got us taken care of and seated. The friendliness here at the Hilton is by far the best and I stayed at many Hiltons over the years. As far as the food goes it was very well prepared, tasteful and brought out in a timely manner. We had the 6oz tenderloin with the potato of the day and barbecue salmon. Both of which were very tasty and well prepared. We had the cream Brulé for dessert which was absolutely outstanding. I couldn't think of anything that was wrong with our meal so I'm giving giving it 4 stars. I would definitely go back for dinner and I know for sure I will be there again for the breakfast. Sure it's inside the Hilton in Biltmore Park, and it does seem a little strange for town dwellers like us to get in the car and drive to this local, but Roux really seems like a bonafide Asheville restaurant. Local foods? Yes. Delicious artistic culinary creations? Yes. Veg Friendly? Yes! They may need to deepen their repertoire for true vegetarians, but what they have is quite good. Wait staff provide excellent service, could use more polish vis-a-vis appearance. I mean, it is the Hilton and a bit more style is expected. The food is above average. Presentation is top notch. The food was great - Brian Rae on the omelette station was very nice and was willing to answer questions about the local foods The hostess was gracious and kind also - then why 3 stars? When my wife and I came the dinning area was scarce - apparently they just had a huge rush. Which is fine but now they didn't have a lot of people to tend to. Our sever - male is all I remember - didn't even care to get his name, spoke in weird phrases - I suppose trying to be hip. Which was fine at first - even made me smile a little - but then I never saw him again until he brought my wife's pancakes, then he didn't return until we asked another server for the bill. And that's when he made the comment "Here you be" then stood over us until my wife placed the card to pay, then said "have a happy" which again would have been fine had he actually spoke normal ever and showed us some sort of attention. Our waters never got refilled - even after requesting another server refill it. So I won't be back - no matter how good the food was the service was subpar - I expect more from a restaurant associated with a Hilton Hotel. read more

I'm was driving down to South Carolina, and wanted a nice place for lunch. The reviews were good, so I gave it a try. I like how the ingredients were advertised as local and they offer grass feed beef. I ordered one of their burgers, no bun on greens. I asked for it cooked medium and it was so over cooked. Very dry and overly salted. I was not impressed. I was there with my dad, and no other customers were in the restaurant. I couldn't believe they over cooked the food with just 2 of us there. First I would like to say that Jessa, our server, was great. She did seem a little neglectful at times until you realize she was running basically the whole dining room by herself. Given that, we quickly overlooked an empty glass here or there. To the food - I would say the food was good...not amazing like you can get at other local restaurants, but good. I agree with other reviewers that the environment is a downside. It is right smack in the hotel lobby which is off-putting. If you're staying at the hotel, it'd be good for a quick snack or take-out back up to your room, but there are better restaurants right outside your hotel door.
