Foragers Canteen - Shrimp and grits.....delish!! - Tacos Near Me - Sylva, North Carolina

I was there Saturday last week. It wasn't to busy when we arrived. Easy seating. Such a variety on the menu. It's a bit pricy for my taste buds. I couldn't adventure or try different things easily. Kids chicken fingers and watermelon (side of fruit) tender and juicy. I wasn't impressed with ckn & watermelon at that price. Make it a smaller plate, add a piece of toast, something. The value for the money isn't there. My salmon patty burger was good. The bun not so much. It was tough. I ended up eating with fork n knife and then wish I'd had ordered it on lettuce instead. I loved it! The topping/sauce was just right. I'll pick a different side next time too. Meal was to pricey to not be filling. Spending over $30for an adult and 6 yr old, no dessert is to to much. I wasn't willing to wait on dessert like we did the meal. The bathroom was so unique, clean, adorable. The lock on the doorknob not so much. Wish the slider stood out more being that it's so busy in there. I'll come again but I won't wait again. It's good yes but not quite that good just yet read more

Dinner with the girls for my 40th birthday and it was amazing! We were a little cold inside and there was no issue when we asked Caroline if we could move outside. The food was delicious, we had the Spanish hog salad, the shrimp and grits and the sidecar tacos. So many other good menu options we will definitely be back next time we are in town. Thanks for the great meal and atmosphere! read more

Such a cozy spot with food that was prepared with attention to detail. Loved it and the service!

We came up for long weekend in pigeon forge and decided to venture out. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich without bun and slaw. My hubby ordered burger and fries. It took over 40 minutes. My chicken was cold and his fries weren't that warm either. They said had fryer issues. Our server was nice and 20% was taken off. I felt mine should have been taken off. I didn't eat it all due to food temperature. read more

Stop searching! This place was hands down the best place we ate breakfast during our stay here! We wish we would have discovered it sooner! The menu had a good amount of variety for everyones taste buds! I personally had the new fiesta bowl & it did not disappoint. It had so much flavor, a bit of heat & the right amount of freshness from the pico! My boyfriend had the ham & cheese omelette. He loved how fluffy & cheesy it was! His only regret was not discovering the jam & butter bar sooner! The staff made you feel right at home and never let our glasses go empty! We will definitely come back again the next time we vacation here! read more

Food is excellent. We very much enjoyed everything. Staff is friendly and good. I had the shrimp and grits which were great. My wife had the Blacksmith salad which she said we phenomenal. read more

What a delightful find. The food was outstanding and Caroline, our server, was the Easter Sunday rock star. What a joy! Two thumbs up!

I had the candied bacon for the first time in my 70 yrs. let me tell you folks it's soooo awesome. Food is great,. Sure didn't expect it to be soooo good. It's small but the atmosphere is really nice. read more

We were in Dillsboro in June. The Foragers Canteen was where we ate the first night. The Chicken Piccata was by far the best I've ever eaten. Jessica was our waitress and she was fabulous. Very attentive and friendly! This place was so good we revisited it again during our 4 night visit. Yes, I had Chicken Piccata again and Jessica waited on us again. You will be in luck if the bartender makes banana peanut butter pudding for dessert. WOW!!! read more

I made a yelp account just to warn people about this place. My burger was severely undercooked; raw in several spots throughout. Fries were good though and the sweet tea was decent too.The service was excellent though except for one unnamed waitress. The other employees were incredibly sweet and had genuine smiles when approaching me and other customers. When I asked for another burger, there was no hesitation and the waitresses even apologized as if it were their fault! It wasn't until I received my next burger (well done) that I realized that their meat was just plain bad. The burger was listed as authentic beef meat but in reality it tasted like a black bean burger. So it's perfect if that's what you're in to but just a heads up. Also if you are on the Great Smoky Mountains train ride and have stopped in this town, be sure to tell them you are not, as this prompts them to pull out a specialized menu with limited options. Even when we asked the waitress if we could have the normal menu since we had over an hour before the train departed, we were denied for this reason alone when customers who had walked in after us were served before us and weren't on the train (I asked). Which is understandably not the waitress' fault but instead the restaurant's policy. This is a dumb policy. read more

Ok food, priced too high for the quality. Menu doesn't seem cohesive. Tried this place 4 times and was no more impressed after each visit. Only plus is they serve breakfast and not many places in town do. read more

The Foragers Canteen was an incredibly delicious treat! We enjoyed the chicken melt and the shrimp and grits and they were fantastic. The chicken sandwich tasted like elevated thanksgiving dinner in a bun and the shrimp and grits were the best we have ever had. The sauce on the shrimp was an delicious and I even used it to dip the side of (incredibly delicious) sprouts in. Our server Jessica was fantastic. She was so lovely and sweet and super helpful. We will definitely come back here! read more

Food and service is amazing! Forager's is a typical quirky NC eatery. The service is top notch and the biscuits were AMAZING, served with their homemade honey butter from the butter bar. I also tried their gouda cheese grits which I've never had before and they were fantastic! They were out of sausage, so I tried their thick cut bacon which was yummy and not too peppery. The coffee was nice as well, rich but not bitter. I'll definitely come back by on my way back home. read more

We were on time however our reservation had been given away, but quickly remedied when a party of six abruptly vacated their table. The food was great, but the service was horrible. We waited an unacceptable amount of time for our order to be taken, for our drinks, and for every course that followed. Very disappointed as out of town guests were with us and Forager's has always been one of our favorite restaurants in the area. read more

My friend and I ate here today. The waitress was super sweet (and had the prettiest blue eyes). She answered all my questions and recommended the sweet potato tater tot's, the brussels sprouts and the veggie tacos. I am vegetarian and she was really helpful in helping me decide. These were delicious. She was super helpful and provided great service. We both thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. We will definitely be back! read more

There were many little issues with our experience here. First, I will say that the Sweet Tots were INCREDIBLE! However, when we came, they had fans everywhere because apparently the AC wasn't working and it was pretty hot in there. We moved a fan closer to our table because there weren't many people in. It took us a while to get our drinks and then we waited longer to order. We had kids with us, so it would have been great if that would have been considered. We waited at least 25 minutes for our food and I had ordered Tacos with shrimp. I ordered corn tortillas, so i kinda expected them to be soft corn tortillas, but admit that that assumption is my fault. However, the crispy corn tortillas were stale. Totally stale. I told our server and a few minutes later the chef brought out some replacement tortillas to the table and asked if I wanted to exchange them out myself. That was weird. He said they were "from a different batch". Turns out they were Also stale. When I told the server that, nothing was really done. Everyone else at my table was done with their food and so, we just quickly paid and left. It would have been nice to be comp'd for the stale taco dish or at least acknowledge the issue. Additionally, there was a section on the menu for bowls and two people in my party ordered the Caribbean Curry. It said on the menu that it comes with a salad and when we asked the server, she said it didn't. However, I just literally reconfirmed it says "Comes with Side Salad and bread" on their website menu. Long story long, we aren't from the area and did not enjoy our experience here. read more

Clean, friendly, great food! The outdoor seating by the river is very peaceful. And pups on leashes are welcome! I can't say enough about the service and the wait staff, either. They really seem to care about your experience here. My new favorite is a barbecue sandwich with blackberry barbecue sauce...and on Sundays...eggs Benedict! read more

When we walked in the smell was immediately amazing. There was a wait to sit inside so we decided to sit outside on the patio which was very nice. Our server was super kind and accommodating. They had an extent menu with many great selections. I ordered the chicken sandwich which was the best chicken sandwich I had ever had, it was so juicy and crispy, highly recommend. Great little hidden gem we found on our way back to Florida from Tennessee. I was a little put off but some of the guys (employees?) standing outside smoking near the door. Not sure if they were from FC or the brewery next door. ‍ The menu was pretty thorough and there was a decent amount of kids items to be found. Their veggie crumble is yummy and I opted for that instead of a typical protein. My son wasn't very hungry and had some fruit and toast. Our daughter LOVES hollandaise sauce so she ordered some and some potatoes. My husband got what he thought was a sandwich, turned out to be tacos. Ironically, when he ordered it, he gal asked what dressing he wanted. As she thought he wanted the salad version. He told her that he wanted the "sandwich," and she took the order. Why she didn't verify that he wanted the tacos(since it didn't come as a sandwich), I don't know. They have a small self-serve jelly/jam bar with apple butter, grape jelly, blueberry compote, whipped butter, and a maple pecan butter. All are home made except the grape and one other. I forgot which. Anyway, it was nice to have a few fresh options for our toast and biscuit. Overall the place is clean, save for a TON of flies in the otherwise spotless restrooms. There was only one other table when we got there. Then only one other as we were leaving. I'm hoping that's because they are so new and it wasn't a typically busy day. read more

Absolutely gobsmacked about those shrimp po boy tacos! Ordered 5 one sitting. No shame here. 3 chews and all 5 were gone. Lovely atmosphere. Even got to see the train come into town. Suddenly the train actually broke down! What a hoot. I got to go out the mid taco fest and help them fix the engine and they were on their way again. Thankful for the lovely staff that hand catches those shrimpy friends every morning for me to eat! Lots of young hip kids working there from the nearby college... wasn't into the blue haired girl sitting near me but hey only god can judge the sinners. Anyways I'll be visiting frequently as I got the job of train engineer this spring. read more

Ignore the description of this restaurant. This place is sooo much more (and better) than a taco restaurant. Came here only because it was a Monday night and apparently this town is closed on Monday nights... but what a find! I had the blueberry salmon (not a type-o, yes, I said; blueberry salmon), and it was fantastic (order it 'rare'). My coworker had the fillet, and she raved about it. I spend a lot of time on the road for my job, and most meal experiences are "okay" at the most. This place was a find!!! A real treat. If everyone knew about this place, you would t be able to get in for the lines, but as it is, it's the town's beat kept secret. Do yourself a favor - eat here, you won't regret it. read more

Ordered the Harvest Omelet and it was the fluffiest omelet I have ever had! Cooked perfectly and beyond delicious!

The food was terrible. Shrimp and grits were salted to the point of being inedible. I'm not sure how it's possible to over salt something that way. I would have sent it back but it wasn't worth the hassle after the very long wait (COVID), just ate the shrimp. The raspberry vin dressing tasted like it was simple syrup with raspberry flavoring and the salad was pitiful. Pulled pork was edible but not very good. Sauced mediocre. Family and I were patient and understanding with the two waitstaff serving (and bartending for) everyone inside and outside (totally unmanageable) but I get it - COVID. If they got it together maybe it'd be a good spot but it really needs work. Also not convinced it was all farm to table ingredients - just saying. looked cool though. read more
