    Carnitas chalupa
    Taylor W.

Just got back from visiting here for the first time. We loved it! The food is truly special (especially for this area, as stuff like this is pretty hard to come by here). Everything is made in house, with high-quality, authentic ingredients. The menu may seem intimidating for those unfamiliar with this kind of food, but it's very simple once you get a feel for it. We had a party of five including my wife, mother and I, who are all pretty adventurous diners, and another couple who are a little more picky. The three of us had a hard time deciding because it all looked so great! Really, I could throw a dart and hit anything on the menu and be happy. We went with the quesabiria, a chorizo torta, and the carnitas chalupa, and the chicharron starter. They were all so so so good. We loved them. The portions were huge too. So we had plenty. Also for you beverage lovers like me, there's self serve sodas, tea, and horchata. No alcohol however. Our picky friends went with a chorizo burrito, which he was very happy with. And chorizo tacos which the owner was so helpful (if a justifiably reluctant) to tailor to her American taste. He was kind to do so and she loved it. That brings me to my only nitpick, which is so small, is that the owner is almost too helpful. He was so friendly and proud of his food and culture. I loved it, but it felt like sometimes he could benefit from letting his food speak for itself. That said, it felt like he genuinely cared that we enjoy ourselves. I hope this place gets the attention it deserves because it's truly unique in our area and really is top quality, authentic, and most importantly, delicious. We will definitely be back.

Veggie Tacos with homemade corn tortillas, cactus, mushrooms, onions s, peppers, cilantro, zucchini, pineapple and Chili on the side but I put mine on top of my tacos and it was fabulous! Vegans will not be disappointed! Vegans and vegetarians rejoice!

Great food and service! It's a little small but the food is authentic and delicious. 85 characters is too much for me YELP!

I came here with a friend who had…read morevisited the previous location before they moved, and I can confidently say this experience delivered exactly what I needed. First, let's address the only downside: my burger was slightly overcooked. The server was very kind and attentive, but by the time she came back around to check on us, it felt a little late to send it back. I decided to remove the meat and enjoy the rest of the burger -- and surprisingly, it was still very good. My only hope for next time is that everything comes out cooked exactly as intended. Now for the positives -- because there are plenty. The wait time was excellent. We didn't have to wait for a table, and the food came out in a timely manner. That level of efficiency definitely adds to the overall experience. This restaurant is clearly operating at a high level. The location is great, the atmosphere is welcoming, and everything feels well-managed. You can tell there's pride behind what they're doing. We ordered The Goat Burger with Crispy Buttered Taters and started with the Fried Deviled Eggs. The fried deviled eggs were a standout. They had a salty base with a slight kick of heat, and the pickled onions brought in a sweet, tangy balance that elevated the dish. The salty-sweet combination worked beautifully together. A strong appetizer choice. As for The Goat Burger -- aside from being slightly overcooked -- the flavor was impressive. The patty was well seasoned, and the fried goat cheese paired with bacon created a rich, savory profile that complemented the crispy buttered taters perfectly. Everything worked cohesively on the plate. Even after removing the meat, the toppings and structure still delivered strong flavor. The food was absolutely worth the money. I left feeling full and satisfied without feeling overly heavy, which is always a plus. This is a place I will go back to again and again. I would confidently recommend it to others -- great location, good food, good people, and solid service. They also offer wine and beer for those who want to enjoy a drink with their meal. Overall, a very strong experience. I'm looking forward to coming back -- and next time, I'm hoping everything comes out cooked perfectly.

The layout of the restaurant is very homey with the Green velvet love seat by the door in the waiting area. It seems very casual with mostly family's and a few couples at the bar. When we arrived there was a short wait so we walked out to admire the Jackson County Courthouse on the hill across the street. After our brief walk our table was ready. We had my wife, son 2 daughters and the oldest one's boyfriend who goes to WCU. We started with the fried deviled egg and cheesy prosciutto croquettes for an appetizer. Big fan of the tomato jam and croquettes so much that I saved the remaining portion for my Gouda grits. They have a wide variety on the menu so everyone found a meal they would enjoy. My wife got the motherclucker chicken sammich with a salad, my youngest daughter got pasta Alfredo, my son got the Rueben, I ordered the fish tacos with Gouda grits and Karlea and Tristan got a basic burger and fries. Other than being messy, my fish tacos were tasty with the slaw and blueberry composite. My wife liked her chicken sammich even though it was at the edge of her threshold for spicy. Brody enjoyed his Rueben but the seasoned veggies were a bit bland. Forager seems like a Sylva staple that will stay on my shortlist. Cheers!

My wife & I had breakfast (served all day). All of our food was epic! The best Eggs Benedict & Belgian Waffles I have had anywhere. The bacon was crispy, yet not overcooked or burned. Our server was friendly & attentive without over doing it. The Ambience was top tier. The restrooms had been remodeled from single Men's Room / Women's Restroom to 3 Unisex single Restrooms located behind a privacy wall which had been added. The outside dining area which had been on a porch had been enclosed & remodeled to an interior decor with heat added. We can't say enough good things about this restaurant. There were about four or five parties in front of us when we arrived but we didn't have to wait too long. The hostess was great, immediately grabbing us drinks when she seated us. Diet Cokes were perfectly carbonated. Waitress showed up shortly after and we put our orders in. Husband and I both ordered the Mexican omelette and home fries. Daughter ordered short stack pancakes with egg whites and a side of cheese grits. We were all really hungry after a hike so food would have tasted good even if it wasn't. However, home fries were perfectly cooked and generous portion size. Pancakes were huge. Omelet wasn't super flavorful but still good. Service was excellent. Waitress was very attentive to refilling drinks and food came out quickly. Decor was a quirky mix of beach and mountains.

Everything about the restaurant was so special, amazing location for a sunset dinner, perched high above the Blue Ridge Mountains - amazing views. The best thing is if you stay at the Skyline Lodge, it's just steps away from your room and that comes in super handy when it's brunch time! We were fortunate enough to enjoy these two meals; dinner & brunch with our kids (who are foodies too) and they are now huge fans of Oak Steakhouse. They said it was the best steak they ever had, you can't go wrong with the Filet! The menu is not huge but really has all of the dishes you would want for an amazing dinner. Plenty of options, even if you don't eat steak. Amazing sides to accompany each dish and you must start with the bread, which is made in-house. I went with a dish I have not tried before and it did not disappoint, Venison Wellington while my wife tried the trout. I will let the photos do the talking. They also pour an amazing espresso martini by the way and to finish you have to try the chocolate cake, trust me! We also want to give a shot out to all of the staff and servers; their attention to detail and overall service was outstanding! Seems to be the case at all Indigo Road establishments, they really know hospitality. We cannot recommend Oak Steakhouse enough, even if you're not staying there but in the Highlands of NC make sure you give them a visit.

Our server was very friendly and (unprompted) comped our bread service after a lengthy delay. Once received, the bread was amazing and went nicely with my lettuce wedge salad. The entrees were excellent as well, with my wife loving her risotto and my steak frites being top notch with fork-tender beef and amazing truffle fries. The portions are generous so to-go bags are a common sight. Oak is not inexpensive, but clearly the value is there if you are looking for a proper steakhouse experience near Highlands.
