I suppose I should have written this review a year ago, but after what happened this week, I knew I had to finally share it. The first time I visited this restaurant last year, I was immediately impressed. The salsa was fantastic, and the quality and freshness of the ingredients in the spinach and mushroom quesadilla and chili rellenos really stood out to me. I went home and talked about the food so much that I was determined to bring my then-fiancé here so he could experience it for himself. We got married two months ago and for his birthday this week, the timing finally worked out--and, of course, everything was just as delicious as I remembered. The food was wonderful, but what really stood out was the service. Our waitress was fantastic, and the other staff members continuously checked on us, chatted with us, and made us feel genuinely welcome. There is a warmth and friendliness to this restaurant that you can feel almost immediately. It feels less like you are simply eating at a restaurant and more like you are being welcomed into a community. Then, in the middle of dinner, I realized I couldn't find my wedding ring. Because apparently, I enjoy adding a little excitement to an otherwise perfectly pleasant birthday dinner. At first, I assumed I had left it at home or perhaps accidentally dropped it down the drain. It had been a little loose, so I was worried but figured there had to be a reasonable explanation. I still couldn't find it and even called the restaurant back to see if someone had found it. The next morning, however, I suddenly remembered exactly what had happened: I had dropped some salsa on my wedding ring during dinner. When I wiped it off with a napkin, the ring must have slipped off and gone into the napkins. At this point, I had one thought, "Oh no, I know exactly where my wedding ring is and what I'm going to have to do to find it." I called the restaurant, and they had already looked for it the night before. When I came in that morning, they let me search the restaurant myself. When I couldn't find it, I asked if I could look through the trash. I came prepared--with gloves, waterproof shoes, a mask, and extra trash bags--because I was fully prepared to dig through it myself. Basically, I looked like I was preparing for a very low-budget episode of Dirty Jobs: Wedding Edition. (If you're wondering where my husband is in all this, I'm super stubborn and left him while he was in the middle of getting ready to come with me because I didn't want him to dig through trash on his birthday.) But George, the owner, and his daughter, Hilda, absolutely insisted that George would look for it instead. So we went out to the dumpster, and George climbed in and began going through massive bags of trash filled with everyone's discarded food, napkins, and everything else from the night's dinner service. He went through one bag. Then another. Then a third. By the third bag, we were getting close to accepting that the ring was simply gone. And then we saw it. MY WEDDING RING! After three enormous bags of restaurant garbage, my tiny wedding band was sitting there like it had been on a bender and was finally ready to come home. I was obviously thrilled to have my ring back, but honestly, that isn't even the part of this story that means the most to me. What I am most excited about is being able to tell people about the kind of people who own and work at this restaurant. This is what genuine customer service looks like. More than that, it is genuine kindness. There aren't many people who would willingly climb into a dumpster and dig through three enormous bags of garbage for someone else's tiny wedding band, especially when there was no guarantee we would ever find it. George and Hilda didn't have to do that. They could have simply let me look through the trash myself and wished me luck. Instead, they went completely out of their way to help me. In a world where it can sometimes feel like the internet is determined to convince us that people are terrible, experiences like this remind me that there are still so many good people who will help someone simply because they can. So yes, I am grateful to have my wedding ring back. But I am even more grateful to have a story about a restaurant owner who was willing to climb into a dumpster to help a customer find hers. I am incredibly grateful to George, Hilda, and everyone at this restaurant--not just for helping me find my ring, but for reminding me what a welcoming, caring community can look like. That is the kind of place this is. The food is delicious. The service is wonderful. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. And apparently, if you accidentally throw your wedding ring away with your napkin, they will literally help you retrieve it from the depths of the dumpster. I will absolutely continue coming here, and I will continue telling everyone I know to come here, too. I just may be a little more careful with my wedding ring next time. read more

The prices have gone up and the quality has gone down. Taco was stale and very little meat. Usually they are full. Hardly any cheese. The enchilada was ok. For the first time I did not feel we got our moneys worth. read more

The food here is the best because everything here is homemade, by this family run business. The chips and guacamole are delicious. I always order the BBQ Chicken Quesadilla because I miss it that much when I'm not there! My daughter and I sit on the outdoor patio for the cool breeze when the weather permits. What a really nice surprise Los Amigos is. The restaurant is large, clean, and well organized. Service is quick, friendly, and knowledgeable. We ordered two fajita quesadilla meals, and a burrito meal. We had three glasses of water. The food was really amazing. Just fantastic. The only reason I rated this restaurant four stars instead of five is that it is expensive (in my opinion). We had lunch. Three lunch specials with water and our bill was $50. That's a bit steep for casual Mexican food. read more

Los Amigos is a wonderful surprise! A little ways away from Main Street, you'll walk in Los Amigos and feel right at home. We were warmly greeted as soon as we walked in and all of the servers we encountered were very welcoming. Now on to the food, it's absolutely delicious. The chips and salsa were perfect! I ordered the Pollo Fundido and my husband ordered the. Steak Burrito. Both were out of hand delicious. The lunch prices are good 7 days a week which is an added plus. We visited during lunch and were very happy and surprised that lunchtime deal were available. Los Amigos definitely has something good going. We're looking to coming back for dinner to enjoy some margaritas with our meal. read more

New Tables outside! Looks great!! Family owned Mexican restaurant located just east of downtown Waynesville. They have a robust Mexican food menu.!I ate the mixed quesadillas last night which had chicken and beef inside. The portions are huge! (Two 12" quesadillas). Hot sauce is medium to mild (for the Floridian tourists). The food is consistently good. It is mostly visited by locals, but more FL plates are showing up in the parking lot lately. They serve a mean margarita as well, all the way up to a 32 oz goblet! Overall, a great Mexican fix when you need one. Servers are like one large family. They all will take care of you. Great Mexican food in Waynesville, NC. They have a good menu, with a lot of choices. The salsa and chips are excellent, and if you like it a little hotter , ask for the hot salsa. Service is very good. The server will explain any items you may not be familiar with. They allowed substitutions. The server also brought the hot salsa, even though it wasn't on the menu. The ambiance is casual "Mexican", it is clean and tasteful. It is our go to Mexican restaurant in Waynesville. read more

Me my wife and kids went to have lunch. Wasn't good but we still wanted a desert for our 4 yr old. Bby doesn't eat she was in her car seat.We asked for a desert for our 4yr old and server gave my son the desert that had alcohol. We stopped and left to pay... we discussed the situation and lady was rude.. didn't apologize.. and said we should've said it was for our kid.. and we obviously wanted one desert for our kid... not to eat it in front of him.. very wrong with no brains.. Then my wife asked her if she serves kids with alcohol and front desk told her they ask if they want it with or with out.. the menu has kids meals.. in the desert it has four deserts and does not notify of any alcohol in it. We have lived in Waynesville for several years but just made it here for the first time. It's off the beaten path and probably not well known to tourists. Most of the crowd appeared to be local. Very good food at a decent price. Parking can be a bit tight but there is some parking available on the side street behind the restaurant. We will return. read more

Very friendly service - they had a strange, unorganized system though. Our initial waiter (a wonderful man who was absolutely hilarious) sat us and brought our drinks and then another guy got our food orders after the first guy disappeared and we'd been waiting for about 10 minutes. The good news was that even though we had to wait a bit here and there, we got free unlimited chips and salsa to snack on - the salsa wasn't spicy incase you were wondering. And it sure was good. About 10 minutes after placing our orders a different waitress brought us more chips and salsa and refilled our drinks. She made sure we had been taken care of - it was very nice to see they all had each others backs, but it was just a bit scattered. Nonetheless we got our food and it was quite yummy indeed. The three of us got the V2 with Mexican rice on the side. The rice was sooo good, but the ' chalupa' was more a tostada shell with beans cheese tomato lettuce and sour cream on top. The cheese enchilada was definately cheese though! They had real cheese in it and it was topped with enchilada sauce and a bit of cheese sprinkled on top to finish it off. It came in a thick corn tortilla - very different from what I'm used to. It was good, but not my favorite. The food was inexpensive - we paid about $10 a plate and left very full. Overall, I have to say that the servers were excellent and funny and even though the service wasn't on point and the food could have been a little better, the servers made this food run a wonderful experience. I noticed that the place was filled with regulars and would hug their waiters/ waitresses as they left. Los Amigos has that atmosphere that keeps people coming back. read more

Don't know why people say this place is good. I eat Mexican all of the time and this place has the worst food in town. I like to give folks a fair shot so I always go back several times and start with the basics - chips, salsa, rice ,beans and enchiladas. All have been sub par. Very disappointing as I love my Mex fix. Didn't even want to try the pico de Gallo at $5.00. Just wanted you to know not to believe their ratings. We were looking for a Mexican restaurant that had vegetarian offerings for our dietary restrictions. We were very happy to discover that Los Amigos does! We took our family of four with a party of 11 tonight. We were welcomed at the door with a smile and greeting and quick service. Though small, there was a diner feel. The food was reasonable and PLENTIFUL! Large kids menu including American food offerings. I ordered a mixed drink and they made sure I liked it before leaving the table. Which was great! We impressed with the service--amazing! We were treated like family! The waiter (possibly the owner) got on his knees to interact with the children and had them laughing. When our friends son asked for a box for his leftover meat and beans, he took the box back and got him a scoop of fresh food to take home! I can't say enough--great food, great service, vegetarian offerings... We will recommend it to our friends in town this week and will probably visit again before we leave. We ordered the steak fajitas, chicken chimichanga, kids quesadilla, three tacos. And a Caribbean mist. With two sodas. Los Amigos lives up to its name--we were friends when we left! read more

Tried to go to Kornerstone and they were closed so decided on Los Amigos since it was right there. The food was way to expensive and not as described on menu. We ordered taco salad which was described with tomato, corn, and sour cream. It was just ground beef and lettuce. We also had a very small plate of nachos with beans and cheese plus 2 soft drinks. Our bill was $33. Would I recommend, nope. Would I come here again, nope. I gave it 2 stars because the restaurant and restrooms were nice and clean. read more

We were seated immediately on a Saturday night with no wait. The waiter came over and asked to take our order before we got a second to open the menus. He also never introduced himself. Someone else brought us chips and salsa which were very very good. We then ordered our drinks and he came back immediately to get our food order. The menu is like 8 pages long and we'd never been here so we asked for another minute. The food was absolutely delicious, I recommend the pollo chipotle if you like flavorful with a little spice! After we got our food and my boyfriend finished his plate, they asked if I wanted a box and I said I needed some more time and they came back again and asked if I wanted a box. Now this could be viewed as good service but unfortunately the vibes felt as if I were being rushed the entire time I was there. 3 different parties came in after us and all 3 of them left before we did. We joked that maybe this was the fast food joint of Mexican food? And just to give you a better picture, we were only there for 45 mins total from being seated to paying the check and getting into the car! OMG y'all, this place is off the chain delicious. It wasn't our 1st choice as hubby originally wanted wings. Went to the local bar because that's where the wings are kept here unless you want KFC or Zaxby's. Not that there's anything wrong with those, just not the wings he prefers. Anyway, local bar was a order at the bar & take it to your table kind of place that had the LOUDEST jukebox in all the existence of loud jukeboxes. I like my music loud, but this was like standing in front of a mega-speaker at a hard rock concert. And they seated us right beside the jukebox. So we left. Stumbled on Los Amigos & decided on Mexican instead of wings. Excellent decision. 1st off, we were promptly greeted & seated. Got our drink order & placed salsa & chips on the table. I have to be careful with salsa as I'm unlucky enough to have a sensitive tummy that doesn't do well with spicy foods. A tiny bit of heat is fine, but I usually have to ask for mild salsa. Not so here. The salsa is made in-house & has just enough of a bite to make it salsa without being overpoweringly hot for me. Hubby is a firm believer in "the hotter, the better", but said this was still, hands-down, the best salsa he's ever had. Even tried to get the recipe, but no luck there, although they did give him a small take home bowl of it. So, whoever is closest to your table takes your order, brings your food, refills drinks/chips/salsa (OMG that salsa). That said, I think we met everyone in the place. They were all friendly & bent over backwards to take care of their customers. I ordered chimichangas & hubby had a burrito Veracruz. We both wiped those plates out. It was absolutely the best Mexican food I've ever had in my life & I'm pretty dang old. If y'all are in the Waynesville, NC area & want Mexican food, please go here. I have loved Los Amigos for years. Always super clean and super fresh. Best Mexican cuisine in our area by far. My go to is Enchiladas Mexicanas! They are awesome! I ask for the verde sauce which is the perfect kick of spice. I sometimes buy a bottle to take home! And their salsa is my favorite. George Rios and his family provide the best service and go out of their way to make sure you are taken care of. You gotta make Los Amigos part of your dining routine! read more

A young man took our drink and dinner order but we were checked on by another gentleman, and a cute young lady also took care of us so they had a team effort.
