We came here because 1) it was later in the day and, 2) it was the weekend and most places were closed. It was all good because this place was really tasty. It is a type of BBQ that is somewhat smoky but it's very clean, meaning not much fat or skin on the ribs, not rustic. The onion rings we ordered, along with the ribs, were good. We also had a pulled pork sandwich which was good also. Since everything was tasty, we ordered a brisket egg roll, and it was the best we had, along with the in-house ranch sauce. Stopped for lunch on my way to Cashiers. Service was excellent. The place is not fancy, but it is very clean and open. The young man who waited on me at the counter was friendly and helpful. He recommended the brisket and mac. He was right. It was heavenly. It has a little twang to it, was moist and cheesy, and included unique spices and shredded brisket. Nick's is a must try when in the Sylva area. The spot is small, the people are friendly and the food is delicious! For lunch, we had the nachos, and the tacos with a side of mac and cheese. I had my nachos loaded and going back, I would ask for some of the loaded part to be on the side as there was a lot of "sauce." We decided to order dinner to go and we ordered ribs, hush puppies and coleslaw. The ribs were absolutely perfect-didn't even need sauce. The coleslaw was nice and light and not too heavy. Nice little local bbq joint in Sylva, NC. Wasn't real busy when we showed up at lunch, but that changed right after we ordered! Not Worth the Hype or the Price We tried Big Nick's BBQ in Sylva, NC after hearing the brisket was their best seller. Sadly, it didn't live up to the promise. The brisket was dry, lacked smoke flavor, and came in tiny portions -- just two slices per serving. Sides were small and served in cardboard boxes, and we were charged extra for onion rings without any notice. The counter-service setup included a tip prompt (15-25%) even though no one served us. Plus, they added a $1 fee for using a credit card. Our total came to $40 for two mediocre meals. Disappointing food, surprise charges, and poor value. We won't be back. read more

I am a BIG fan of Mac n Cheese and a simple menu! During our road trip we stopped at Big Nick's for BBQ. We got two platters with brisket as the protein and two sides each; onion rings, baked beans, waffle fries and brisket Mac n cheese. I thought the brisket Mac n cheese was going to be over bearing but it was not. It had the right amount of brisket to go with the Mac n cheese. Baked beans were interesting as they had multiple color beans; I've never seen this. Delicious. Everything in our platter was delicious and tasty. Food is fresh and quality of food is great. The location is small, not tiny but big enough to seat a couple of families. If the weather is great there are benches with umbrellas right outside with a view. Customer service was great. The brisket had a nice bark and a good snap. The Turkey was tender with a smoke that did not overwhelm the meat. The huspuppies were fried to perfection. For me though, the true star of the meal was the baked beans. I mean these were the best baked beans stretching from NC to TX I have ever had to this day. My son and I stopped in for lunch during our visit to Western Carolina University this past weekend. The staff here was super helpful and polite. My son wasn't sure about the sides he wanted so the cashier allowed him to sample the brisket mac and cheese and he loved it. We also ordered the chicken tenders and they were huge. My son could only eat 2 of 3 and fries. I ordered the wings which were big and juicy, and packed with flavor, onion rings and hush puppies. The hush puppies were filled with corn which was delightful. I had never had that before but it's now my favorite. We both had sweet tea which wasn't too sweet. I was happy about that. My husband and I are on vacation and came across this wonderful BBQ place. It must be a staple for all the locals because it was very busy for lunch. BIG NICK'S STEPPED UP BIG TIME!! We had to find last minute catering the morning of our wedding in Whittier, NC due to Hurricane Helene taking power out at our original caterer. Our venue owner got Big Nick's on the phone despite poor cell service and they graciously agreed to make us food very last minute. We cannot begin to thank their team enough for enduring the insane weather and conditions to help make our day special. THE BRISKET WAS INSANE. The WINGS are some of the best we've had...they smoke them and then flash fry them so you've got these smoky wings with a thin crispy bite and some excellent seasoning- a bit of heat also. I previously left a 5-star review for this restaurant, and it stands for the food's taste. However, the service gets one star now. On two occasions my delivery order was incorrect. After the first incident, I was contacted via text and given a $10 Toast credit. However, that credit was never actually applied to my account so I was never able to access it to use. Then yesterday another delivery order was missing an entire item. I reported it the same way, but it was ignored. Like another restaurant in the same area, I'll simply have to avoid delivery orders from now on, which sucks since I am almost 100% housebound due to disability. Big Nicks BBQ is a good BBQ place. It is a simple small old style restaurant with a small seating area. The smell from outside was a pleasing and inviting smoke. We are 2 entrees for diner. The pork BBQ had a great flavor and was well seasoned. I would highly recommend getting some of the pork BBQ. They had 3 sauce options on the table. The slaw was good but had a slight celery taste. The fries were hot and crispy. The Briskes Mac was super thick and flavorful. Overall, the sides were good but for my taste, not nearly as good as the pork BBQ itself.
