Went with a group of friends for a celebratory dinner, having made reservations in advance (although it wasn't too busy inside on a Thursday). The service overall was lovely, everyone was kind, sociable and helpful. For my meal we started off with the focaccia which was incredible, it was soft with delicious whipped butter and radishes on the side. One could easily get this as a solo appetizer, or share amongst 2-3 max. The mushroom stew is probably the most popular item on the menu and for good reason. It was thick, full of mushrooms and topped with a lovely poached egg and delicious dollops of ricotta. It packed a punch of flavor, albeit quite salty, and was quite hearty! The hominy polenta was a relatively small dish, once again topped with a poached egg, with delicious pieces of thick bacon bits and roasted brussels. It was good but nothing particularly outstanding. The apple cake for dessert was delicious, with the hazelnut being a lovely addition. It was warming with the spices, and a filling end to the meal. read more

Pros: Hospitality and service! Warm welcome by host with wonderful touches to help us celebrate the occasion that was noted in the rez's details. Efficient folks all through the dining experience. That, coupled with the follow up email thanking us for dining, shows how much the establishment pays attention to details and customer service. That alone makes this a spot worthy for a return visit. Food also falls in the pros category. The orders of pig parts, we had the ears and snout, were full of flavor, complete with a satisfying crunch and full of delicioussss fat. I mean, why else get random pig parts, right? Some of the dishes we had were full of flavor as well and we will get again, like the mushroom stew and lamb neck. However, although the short rib was not as expected it was decent but not on my list to get again. After all, the goal of trying foraged was to have unusual items and tastes I can't get anywhere else. Note the foods are all small plates so there's a prix fixe for three or five dishes to share. Pig parts are separate but worth it. Oh, and there are wine pairings which were really small pours, (I guess to match small plates?) but I don't want small pours of delicious wine, so wouldn't really recommend the pairings but if it's strictly and solely for the combos, then do you. Cons: Noise levels. Yikes! I know it was a busy night but it was super loud. The poor server was yelling at us and we were yelling back. Not usually a problem if we can communicate but being directly under someone yelling over me was a little uncomfortable. I get why it was happening but still, in a post pandemic world, it made things awkward. The proximity of tables. While most servers were super skilled at being graceful (kudos to them, their grace and balance!) an elbow did check here and there as they leaned in to serve an item or pick up a dish, with a little back end bump because the tables were so tight that they could not walk between them and had to reach over and around. Not the worst thing to happen but definitely a duck/dodge sitch on top of the yelling. So, overall? We will go back but biggest downside was the closeness of the tables. I get that the restaurant wants the most people in as possible (hey, make that money, I'm not mad at you!) especially on busy nights but when there's very little space, in this post pandemic world we're navigating, the closeness is not comfortable for us. Note that most diners seem unconcerned about the closeness so I realize this is a personal preference. So, why go back? The food, customer service and wonderful team of workers. However, we'll try for a less busy night and if they are fortunate to be packed this way on a typically less busy week night, we will not stay unless more space is added between tables. read more

Service is great. Ambiance good. The problem with the restaurant was 2 items we ordered used some form of pork/bacon to give flavor/salt to their dishes. We had a fish dish there during restaurant week and it was decent, but had pork bits at the bottom and ruined a good dish, in addition, their veggie soup had pork in it and did not need this. It was also overpriced. I would highly recommend Woodberry Kitchen over this place. Also charged $11 for bread and that should've just come with a meal. Restaurant week is supposed to be a time when we are introduced to restaurants at a reasonable price. read more

Beet salad with goat cheese was spot on yummy!! Mushroom stew was creamy, tart, and so tasty!! Chicken leg was just a thigh but perfectly cooked with a sweet purée and veggies! Monk fish was perfectly cooked with a creamy decadent sauce!! Pumpkin cheesecake was spiced well, smooth and again creamy with delicate whipped cream! Wines were yummy as well!! We were force charged 25% tip even though the service was terrible and we weren't 6 people. Fees and tips added up to 106$ on top of the bill pretty ridiculous. Don't get me wrong the food was delicious, I just don't like being forced to pay that much extra for bad service. read more

The atmosphere was quiet, intimate, and aesthetically pleasing. The server was very attentive to our party of 6. We had reservations but the restaurant was basically empty when we arrived. A $10 payment in advance per person in required when making a reservation, but the money is refunded as long as all guests show up for the reservation. The portions are VERY small--the server recommended at least 2-3 courses per person which was an accurate assessment. The focaccia was one of the best breads I've ever tasted and the whipped butter paired excellently with the fluffy interior and crunchy exterior of the salty bread. The mushroom stew was hearty, seasoned well, and satisfying. The salad was disappointing--$15 seemer very overpriced for a very small bowl of essentially lettuce, lemon juice, and olive oil. The polenta was delicious--the different textures of the brussel sprouts, thick cut bacon, and polenta paired perfectly with one another. The cookie sandwich dessert was delicious, but avoid ordering if you are not a citrus fan, as the orange caramel is very overpowering. Though one would expect a farm to table, with plentiful "V"'s next to the listed menu names to offer vegan options, foraged. has none. Their "alternates" were the salads and a sole mushroom soup, where both instances result in the removal of a key ingredient (e.g. herb goat cheese) inorder to be vegan, and with no price concession offered for the difference. If I had added my missing ingredients to a dish, I would have been upcharged. No? I went with the now sparse mushrooms soup which was overall good but lemony; you could really missed the balancing creaminess of not having the ricotta and poached egg. Disappointing. read more

Foraged was absolutely amazing! The food was incredible, the service was great and the ambiance was wonderful. Our favorite dish was a tie between the mushroom stew and beef sirloin. The sauce that came with beef sirloin was so bright and flavorful, and nothing like we have had before with sirloin. The meat was supposed to be cooked to medium rare, but was slightly more chewy than we would like, but otherwise it was wonderful. The mushroom stew with the poached egg and the homemade ricotta was a savory delight. We enjoyed the simple but high quality tomato salad with watermelon. The pig snout was amazing with a great balance of different textures. The crab cake was good, but compared to the other items we ordered, was our least favorite. Out of the three drinks we ordered, the peach sorbet bubbles was my favorite and the fresh sorbet was an interesting touch between sips of the champagne. We ended the meal with the peach cobbler and the cantaloupe panna cotta which were both extremely vibrant and fruity. The Panna cotta was a more subtle desert, which was complimented very well with the desert wine. Even the complimentary cookies they gave us with the cheque were delicious. My second visit since about 4 years ago and a lot has changed (like the location) while also other things hold true. I called last min. on a Friday and at first there were no reservations available, but the host offered to seat us at the bar. After declining and ending the call, the host graciously called back when a table opened up, which was awesome. Our server made a point to ask about any allergies/dietary restrictions and was nice enough to mark each of the menus based upon allergens (gluten-free/dairy free). We had the mushroom stew and focaccia for appetizers and the scallops w/ corn & bacon and the catfish beurre blanc for dinner. Overall the flavors were delicious but plates and portions are very small. One of the servers were honest about this as we initially interpreted the "shared plates" ethos listed on the menu as things being family style, which they are not. They are meant to be shared but I'd still recommend getting one entree per person. A nice date night spot overall. read more

Although they didn't have hot sauce or even chilli flakes lol, chef did well in preparing "flavorful" and very well cooked food. The infusion of fresh herbs really gave it a taste. I had been waiting to try Foraged out EVER since it opened so i figured I owed it to myself before they relocated out of Hampden. Went with a buddy of mine who also had no been before so we couldn't wait! When we got seated, we were handed flutes off champagne to celebrate the move on the house--very classy move! We did 4 courses. Each of us started with the mushroom stew which was ALL that I had hoped. SO many mushrooms and great broth along with the poached egg and ricotta. I HAD to try the "crab cake" featuring Lion's Mane. Seasoned well not overly salty; the cake was a great substitution for crab meat at a fraction of the price. Sauce paired very well without taking away from the flavor of the Lion's Mane. For the entree, I went with the Catfish. Was cooked in a butter sauce featuring hominy, mushrooms, and spinach. Came out nice and hot and even with a butter sauce, the dish wasn't overly heavy. Prepared very well as I noticed was a theme throughout the meal. Shout out to the back of the house as well as the server who paced our meal out perfectly. We finished up splitting the paw paw pudding which was not overly sweet. Paw paw is similar to a mixture of banana and a mango available in the Mid-Atlantic Region. For a light but tasty desert, it was a great finisher. As the meal concluded we were offered a few chocolate chip cookies with the check. Once Foraged re-opens, I WILL be heading back. This meal was well done from start to finish. The prices are suitable to portion and quality of food. My stomach was happily full. Definitely check out Foraged when given the opportunity, especially if you love mushrooms like I do! read more

The experience started out well with the introduction of the amuse-bouches, however it quickly declined in quality. The service, which matched the casual environment of the restaurant was adequate, but the disorganization of the kitchen was clear. Firstly, the tomato's in the starting dish were most definitely over ripe, and the sauce was not blended well, having many pockets of various inconsistent flavors. Moving through the second and third courses were enjoyable (mushroom stew with poached egg, catfish with a beurre blanc-esque sauce) until the 4th was introduced. We were presented "sirloin". This dish was found a disappointment by the table. The "sirloin", which had a livery taste, was not well seasoned, and was a very dry and unappetizing course. Why on earth would a restaurant of clear prestige serve such an overcooked protein. It's important to note that after the second course was presented, we inquired about the previously ordered pig ear dish that had not yet arrived. We were assured that it would be presented sometime throughout our meal before the dessert. Mind you, we were informed this by a woman that was not our main server. Moving into the "5th" course we were expecting the pig ears. Instead, we were presented with a cantaloupe sorbet palette cleanser. We AGAIN inquired about the status of our pig ears and were told "i'm gonna have to go yell at someone." At this point, the disorganization was made plain, because moments later the desert arrived. We were informed that the pig ear dish would be taken off the bill, and that it would be presented AFTER our final desert. We were unable to appreciate the flavors of our 5th course as we were stressed by the uneasiness of the situation. After the pig ears arrived, we were very quickly presented our bill, and left the establishment. It just felt like we weren't respected, and were not wanted in this restaurant. Hands down the worst food I've eaten in Baltimore, and I'm including Burger King. Don't take my word for it. Go there... please. Walk in and think, "oohh, this is cozy and hip." I recommend rolling the dice with one of their cocktails. The one I ordered tasted like boiling water, rum, and honey. It was foul. As for food, you cannot miss. Anything you order will be served cold and will taste strange/gross. I ordered the mushroom stew, and man, if a bowl of raw, crunchy mushrooms with a raw egg served cold doesn't blow your hair back, I don't know what will. Maybe the duck and raw beans? You will wander what you're doing in there, but the restaurant is so intimate that you won't want to say anything to your dining partner through fear of being heard by the other diners. You wouldn't want anyone to think you're not super hip and down with "foraged" food. However, the pièce de résistance will be the check. Enjoy! read more

We have been to foraged on several occasions love small plate, farm to table food, but after this experience we are never coming back. The service was incredibly slow. After our appetizers, it took 40 minutes for our main dishes to come out. What we got was an undercooked, tiny slice of duck breast, and two small end pieces of overcooked fish. The portions on our plate for the same dish were significantly smaller than what we had seen come out of the kitchen. We politely raised this with the waiter. We are not people to complain at restaurants and debated even saying anything but the portions were just incredibly small for the price. The chef then came out and said I heard you are being rude to my staff, without even asking us what our issues were. He then kicked us out of the restaurant. We left after paying for an overpriced and underwhelming meal. We limit how much we go out during COVID and this awful experience to get kicked out of an overpriced place and still feeling hungry is incredibly disappointing. I had an excellent time at Foraged; my biggest complaints were 1. They ran out of 3 things on the menu even though our reservation was relatively early in the evening (and unfortunately, we were very interested in 2/3 of those items); 2. Some of the dishes were overly salty. I came here with my boyfriend after seeing the fantastic reviews + interesting menu. We ended up ordering 3 items - their smoked white fish rillettes ($13), scallops ($17), and the braised beef coppa ($23). The white fish rillettes were an excellent way to start the meal - the rich creaminess of the fish was wonderfully offset by the crunchiness of the toast and the acidity of the pickles. My only complaint was that it was very salty. Scallops were good, but nothing to write home about. I'm always a sucker for seafood so don't regret ordering it, but it was probably the least memorable of the 3 dishes. The braised beef coppa was my favorite - the beef was very tender and flavorful, and the carrots were well cooked and delicious (which means a lot coming from me, as I normally hate carrots). Service was pleasant and attentive - no complaints there. The space is small and cozy, although as other diners have pointed out, I am not a fan of the glaring fluorescent lights. Don't waste your time or Money. The service is terrible, the restaurant mismanaged, are using paper napkins even though they change our silverware, and is way over priced for what you receive. I had a reservation for 2 at 7:15 yesterday in advance of a show at the Lyric theater. We got there early at 7. The restaurant was maybe half filled and we were able to be seated early. We immediately ordered. We were hungry. We put in: -fried oysters -focaccia I with pumpkin ricotta whip -duck -scallops Since they inform us it was small plates and needed 2-3 pp and we ordered what we were told were 2 larger items. Then we waited and waited. It was about 25 min since we had and we asked about the apps. We were told they were in process. We waited another 10 min. Asked again and asked if anything could just come out when ready. Our waitress informed us that she had courses the times to wait till we were finished with the bread (which we hadn't received any food yet almost 40 min in). Our appetizer small plates took an HOUR to get to us. At this point we were ravenous and ate a very thing quickly. The fried oysters were cold. The bread with the whip was not focaccia but sourdough. The sourdough had been on the grill but cold by the time it got to us. It was the size of a crostini with only 4 pieces. We were so hungry we were going to soup out the remaining ricotta whip (with the tinniest dollop of pumpkin purée). Our "entrees" continued to take another 20min. In the meantime 3 different waitresses came over and asked if we wanted more bread and We said absolutely. I leaned later on the bill they charged us for more bread.... $3 for the tiniest crostini sized pieces. When we finally got our "entrees" the scallops were laughable. It was literally 2 and they were the size of a quarter and maybe .4 inch thick. According to my friend the duck was good and was the size we expected. We immediately put in two more items before eating since this wasn't going to be enough and we STILL hadn't received the extra bread. The scallop texture was off. The dish tasted good but forgettable. Nothing I'd go back for or recommend is worth getting Bread took several more reminder and arrived an hour and 30 in. Just before the second set of "entree" tapas. The bread finally came out, warm and freshly grilled. We additionally ordered the mushroom risotto and the short rib. Both came out and were hot. They were Cooked properly and the sizes expected. The short rib was more of a sirloin which was a surprise. I don't think they're using descriptors as they should. The mushroom risotto was more mushrooms then risotto rice. I had ordered exclusively to help fill me up. At least i got more veggies?! The service was terrible. Our sever did not care once we put in our (first order). She did not fill water glasses or refill the bottle when it was empty. Every time we asked about our food during the first hour she pushed it off. She was rude. Her peers could see she neglected the table and help pick up the slack. When it comes to table wear. The pottery was beautiful. Changing out the silverware was a nice touch. However, it gave a major Juxtaposition against the thin paper napkins. Plating is the only thing I feel like stood out as a pleasure. All and all, not worth it even with how close to the theater. Don't go there is expecting a relaxing experience and to get out of there for 2 people with no alcohol for less than $140. Additional context, I've eaten all over the world. You can find amazing service and food at hole in the wall places. I eaten at some of the best restaurants as well where the entire experience of the guest is treasured. read more

I wanted to score these folks lower just because I have been giving out a lot of five stars lately, but I just couldn't do it. This place absolutely deserves five stars! It's a nice little place, comfortable and easy, the wait staff is incredibly good, attentive and well trained, and really personable. I will apologize in advance, it was her birthday and she didn't want me taking pictures of food so you will have to use your imaginations!! Anyway, the waitress told me that two or three of the plates is usually enough for a dinner and she was spot on. Between the two of us, we shared five plates and were comfortably full but managed to squeeze in a shared dessert too. I will tell you all the dishes we had but first a warning, they really do change the menu frequently to make sure they have fresh local ingredients. So the main point I want to make is that everything is prepared really well and I don't think there are any bad choices on the menu, these folks know what they're doing. The message is that this is a place that you want to eat at, don't worry about the sample menu, just dive in! We got the mushroom stew which I understand is a staple and is often on the menu with good reason. It was a real star. The beet salad was so good it would have been the star at any other meal but it was about 3rd or 4th in this one. The polenta dish was fantastic, and the fried oysters were amazing too with a fun presentation - each little fried oyster was presented in an oyster half shell and they were all in a dish full of what at first looked like crushed ice, but I think was rock salt or something to give that look. I tried the pork chin which was not my favorite but if you like pork belly it was very similar. When I go to a tapas place with someone, I often want to share tastes, but the tapas are so small that you only get one bite each and it's frustrating. I love mushrooms and I love a good crab cake, but this was like the world's worst version of both--overly seasoned, dry/rubbery, and I couldn't eat more than a few bites without losing my appetite. It was actually gross. We got 2 pig parts--one was lean and good (sorry don't remember which), and the jowl was bad. All fat, and even too much for the person I was with who enjoys eating fat. Everything was great but the portions are very small for how much you pay. I thought it was insane they charged $9 for a bottle of San Pelligrino and when they give you the option say "or baltimore water". I did appreciate that they gave us free fried oysters. I ordered the lions mane crabcake (very good but slightly salty) and the chicken (small but delicious). Thoroughly enjoyed my evening at Foraged. They have a great drinks menu with some really fun cocktails (the winter drink is a hot gin-based cocktail that seriously warned me up!). The food menu has a number of vegetarian/vegan options; the risotto was my favorite of the night. We shared three small plates and two entrees which was the right amount of food for two people. The ambience was lovely and the staff were extremely friendly and attentive. The best part -- there are little dinosaurs hidden around the restaurant! Stopped in for dinner at foraged recently and had an ok meal. The space is nice, the servers are friendly, and they change their menu almost daily to showcase whatever is fresh. But the food was underwhelming overall and it's not somewhere I'm dying to return to. Started with the fried oysters, which had good texture but taste and sauce were lacking. The skillet cornbread was ok, but taste again was a little off for me - almost fishy? The ricotta toast also is another dish I wouldn't re-order, can't quite remember what I didn't like exactly but it wasn't the creamy rich toast that I was expecting. Bone marrow had very little marrow, and had a bunch of toppings on it that distracted from any marrow flavor/richness. The pork belly was probably my favorite dish, crispy, fatty, and addicting. To round out the meal, I had the risotto, which was ok but too runny for me and the flavor again was missing something. Not a creamy, rich risotto that I wanted from a main dish. read more

Their menu changes constantly as it depends on what is in season and what they can get. They have small dishes so recommended that we order 2-3 each. We ordered cantaloupe salad, mushroom stew, pig parts (ears and jowl), duck, sourdough bread, and the cinnamon roll and ice cream for dessert. The cantaloupe salad was fresh and had a nice mixture of flavors with the cheese and jalapenos. The mushroom stew was creamy and had a poached egg on top - one of my favorites. I also really enjoyed the saltiness and crispiness of the pig ears. The jowl was too fatty for my liking but that's what a jowl is... The duck was nothing to write home about. The desserts were a little strange to me. The cinnamon roll was made with sourdough which the flavors didn't seem to go together. The ice cream had a gritty texture. read more
