After attending the car show at the Dash stadium we decided to go get some coffee. Since we were near downtown, what better place than this cozy spot that sits attached between a book store and a brewery. The perfect place to get a book to read and relax. You can also order food from Foothills Brewery. There is a small area with comfortable couches and also a bigger room with more seats and tables that is also rented out for private events. There are hot and cold drinks available like specialty coffee or teas. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They make your order fresh and quickly. They also have some large sweet delicious cookies that can be warmed up upon request. Also some biscuit sandwiches. This is a really cool laid back indie vibe. Outdoor seating also available as well as a private parking lot I. The rear. check them out, I guarantee you won't be disappointed!

I decided to come to this coffee shop so I could get some work done here and try a new place! Pros: I loved that it was attached to a cute bookstore so you can buy a coffee/pastry and walk around and look around or vice versa- buy a book and sit at the coffee shop with it! It was not busy when I went and it was pretty quiet, which was nice environment to get some work done. It was clean and they had plenty of seating. Cons: The latte was slightly sweeter for my liking Would I come back? Yes and I think it would be fun to also try one of their cocktails too as it looked like they had a good bar selection too.

What a great coffee/tea/bookstore! Friendly staff & nice selection of sweet treats - even got my own pot of tea. Perfect spot to meet up with friends or just have a quiet space to read and enjoy the very cool atmosphere.

    Coffee flight: superb!

What a fun place! You can relax, work, or meet up with friends to enjoy some coffee or cocktails depending on the time of day. Very large indoor area with plenty of space, and a large outdoor area as well. No need to worry about finding room in here. Couches, chairs, little nooks out of the way, and even a large bookstore adjoining this unique spot. The best part, there is free public parking in the back. The sign for "private parking" is still up in the lot, but after asking inside, they confirmed that parking is free and the sign was never taken down. So if you go, ignore the sign and park all day for free in downtown Winston Salem. The coffee and tea were outstanding. The flight my wife had on this Valentine's Day was superb. Each little taste had unique flavors with a lot of love put in. Thank you for the great service. We will definitely be back .

Footnote is a great little coffee shop and book store downtown. But many ppl don't know that there is an event space there as well..... I've been to business lunches, Christmas parties, team building events and multi course dinners there and every time has been a wonderful experience. There are two spaces so you can utilize one or both and they can be casual or upscale depending on the event because the rooms have that urban exposed brick old building vibe that can be a pretty neutral but co background to your event. My last time there was a multi course beer and brunch event hosted by Foothills next door (this is who you would connect with to rent the space and get catering options). Food was fun, beer local and great energy to the event.... Plan to go again next year. Check them out for coffee, books or an event you are planning.

Still loving all things footnotes a year later. My go to is the iced London fog and I can't recommend the blueberry lemon cookie more.

Totchoes! (Nachos, but with tatertots) On the it's cheddar, but they'll swap beer cheese if you ask.

Of primary importance, you should know Footnote has the best Reuben sandwiches I've ever had, anywhere. No sliced deli corned beef here, they use big honking slabs of meat. It's so good. But more than that, the full Foothills menu is available at Footnote (they share a kitchen) as long as there's not an event going on that would block access and overly extend the staff. And the specials link too, like half price fish and chips Tuesdays (best fried fish I've had in the area too, including from seafood restaurants). And the Shanewich, whatever Chef Shane dreams up on a given day... Chef know better than I do what I want to eat most days. Today I wanted totchoes, which are nachos with a tater tot base. (I miss Dirty Fries' Winston location!) And here's the pro tip: they will swap out the cheddar stated in the menu for beer cheese if you ask. Footnote is a great neighbor for Bookmarks -- we're separated by only a glass wall, and you can bring your coffee or cocktail on in and browse and sip, or bring a beverage to an author event. Just be tidy about it, and please keep alcohol out of the kids' section.

Coffee, cocktails and a book store - what more could you want! Recently stopped by Footnote on a food tour and got the chance to try their homemade lemonade and cold foam vanilla latte. Their lemonade was slightly tart and not too sweet. I would absolutely go back and order this on a hot summer day. The fan favorite was the vanilla cold foam latte which we all devoured instantly! Can't wait to go back and grab a good book + coffee.

My first time here!! I came to meet a photographer and decided to order a cortado. It's been a long time since I've had a great cortado. Nathan was super sweet and greeted me with a smile upon entering. When I asked if they were versed in cortados Nathan told me that one the very skilled baristas Nathan could make it best! Let me tell you!!. I know a great cortado when I get one. I ordered a cortado with oat milk. This baby was super silky, not too much milk froth and no bitters from the espresso. You can tell this came from a well roasted bean and poured by a skilled barista. No sweeteners needed. I definitely will come back for another cortado! The space was very large. Plenty of seating and nice natural light. Connected to the bookstore. They also have great outside seating. Love the vibe and the espresso.

My last review was 2018. The Covid protocol at my business has kept me away from the my downtown WS office. I am just now starting to get back. Covid has killed off some good places, especially the coffee shops. Two near my office are now gone. The closest place for me to get a cup of coffee is Footnotes, which is a couple of blocks away. I am grateful that Footnotes is still in business. I have visited Footnotes several times now after getting back into the office. It reminds me how cool this place is. Now, if my boss is reading this review, I have only enjoyed the coffee and lattes. I will come back after hours to get the cocktails and Foothills beer. Plus, I still have plenty of vodka in my office. Coffee, lattes, and espressos are good. I believe they roast their own beans. The sausage biscuits hit the spot. Now to be fair with my review, there are better places to get a biscuit, but these are decent. I haven't had the lunch sandwiches yet but I will. I have had the craft cocktails and draft foothills beer in the past. I love Foothills beer and they have large select on draft. Great place to come and get a drink. Note, Footnotes is hidden down a small alley right off 4th street. Just follow the signs.

Lemon blueberry cookie, fat free vanilla latte, book from next door!
    Dot M.

I come here frequently because: A) it's a COFFEE shop B) it's directly next door to a BOOK store and C) it's very close to my husband's office so sometimes he can pop over and see me or I can get a parking lot kiss if I give him a heads up. Y'all may not participate in item "C" - that's just for me. I've had all manner of hot coffee and hot tea here and have always enjoyed my selections whether a seasonal offering or a longtime favorite. The baristas are helpful and friendly and it's a great place to sit a moment or meet a friend for a long chat. They do have some light fare and I *think* you can order from the Foothills brewery attached to Footnote (great menu!!). But I'm here for the sweets, I won't lie. The cookies are as big as your face and if you're dining in they'll warm them up for you. Ummm....yes, please! My kids love the chocolate chunk and I am a fan of their red velvet and lemon blueberry. When I have an extra minute, I'll pop next door and enjoy book heaven along with coffee heaven. Bonus - restrooms have always been clean! As a lady who drinks tons of water (and coffee) all day and subsequently pees ALL the time, I appreciate that.

I've came to Footnotes twice this week. Once was to do work and the other was for a post dinner drink. When I came to do work it wasn't too busy so there were lots of tables to sit at. I had the coffee flight which was very good and a nice way to try multiple drinks and still get caffeine to powder through the day. I also enjoyed an apple oatmeal cookie (I think it also had caramel) which was super soft and delicious. It didn't even need to be warmed. I came again on a Saturday night and even though there was a private event the staff was super nice, paid attention, and made sure everyone had great service. The cocktails are a great price for a craft cocktail bar. The staff was accommodating when I switched the gin to vodka in my drink. I will definitely come back to do work and/or grab drinks.

Stopped in for a coffee before a job interview and ended up coming back for a glass of wine afterwards! The service and atmosphere is friendly and comfortable. They have a selection of pastries and sandwiches as well as a full bar and various local beers on tap. You can sit inside or choose from one of the two patios. It's also conveniently connected to the cutest bookstore!

I recommend the dirty south burger, which I've had before, but this time I got the hot Winston chicken. I enjoyed the gochujang slaw on the side as well, but I like it as an included side. If I paid the full $5 for extra side, I wouldn't have been quite as pleased perhaps. Lace got the aforementioned burger, which I'm pleased to say is still delicious (I'll probably go back to it next time), and the fries are above average quality, too! Pours of draft beer seem to be in a smaller than average glass, but then they are keeping their beverage prices down this way.

However, the beer taste is noticeably off. I'm not sure what's affecting the flavor, but it does make me wonder whether the tap lines are being cleaned as regularly as they should be. We've tried them all, the hoppy IPAs, the lighter styles, some ciders and even the dark porters and the issue seems consistent across the board. Five friends who've joined us on different visits have said the same. At this point, I usually just order a margarita instead. Each beer or cider runs about $7, but the space itself is impressive: a large indoor area with plenty of picnic tables, additional seating outside, a dart wall, cornhole, and another beanbag toss game. Sometimes people will dance to the band but the seating is awkwardly close to wear the bands play. There is a restaurant beside Joymongers that will bring your food order to you, menus are placed at the brewery tables and when the bay doors are open, you can catch a truly beautiful sunset.

We have always wanted to try this place out seeing it many times off of the roadway and it looked interesting because it was a converted gas station. As we parked and approached campus gas we noted that there was plenty of outdoor seating, primarily wooden benches, tables and places to lounge around outside near the fire pit. There were people enjoying a drink and playing a lively game of cornhole. We strolled around then went inside to explore what the business had to offer in the way of drinks and maybe get something to eat. As it turned out, it was around 9 o'clock, and the lady that came out from the kitchen told me that the kitchen was closed for the evening so we weren't able to get any food at that time so we walked around inside and looked at the small things for sale and the decorations saw the nice high top bar and chairs and since things were winding down, we decided to leave instead of having something to drink. We didn't see a bartender or someone to serve us a drink anyway. So as it stands, we'll have to come back by some other time and check it out.
