I will say, it's not mind-blowing, but the food is consistent, the beer is good, and the atmosphere is level (ie not super welcoming, not unwelcoming, but neutral). The service is typically good - not overly friendly, but quick, respectful, and good. I've had their wings, burgers, sandwiches, and appetizers. Located in the heart of downtown with indoor and outdoor seating it's a large beautiful bar and restaurant. They have live music on certain nights and play music in the background on other days. The atmosphere is very relaxing and laid back. Staff is friendly and on point with their service. We got 3 different plates. My wife got the breakfast burrito, thank God she asked for the Chile de Árbol sauce on the side because it was spicy! I loved the spice as it did not linger. She got it with a side of perfectly fried sweet potato fries. My daughter got the Fish and Chips with a side of fries. The fish was golden fried on outside and soft and flaky on inside. It was huge and hung of the plate. I kept picking at it and stealing some bites. I got the Elote pasta. I must admit that at 1st bite I did not like it, seemed bland. After a little S&P love and mixing it up, it all came together. Not sure why it's called Elote(corn) pasta, as there was no corn on it, unless the sauce is made with corn. Anyway, the sauce was perfect and the scallions, tomatoes & fresh grated Parmesan was what put it all together. It was definitely the favorite dish as my wife and daughter kept stealing from me.......oh and let me not forget the tender perfectly seasoned blackened chicken. Every bite was flavorful. I've been a couple of times now and would highly recommend. It's a big space with bar and plenty of table seating as well, plus an area upstairs with standing tables and cordoned off space to the side for large private party. Service was fast, and the prices, while high, are comparable to other places. For the price, however, you're mostly getting some excellent quality plates. I recommend the dirty south burger, which I've had before, but this time I got the hot Winston chicken. I enjoyed the gochujang slaw on the side as well, but I like it as an included side. If I paid the full $5 for extra side, I wouldn't have been quite as pleased perhaps. Lace got the aforementioned burger, which I'm pleased to say is still delicious (I'll probably go back to it next time), and the fries are above average quality, too! Pours of draft beer seem to be in a smaller than average glass, but then they are keeping their beverage prices down this way. read more

A brewery located in downtown Winston Salem! My family and I came here on a weekend at around 1:30pm. It wasn't crowded at all, but we were told it would be about a 15-20 minute wait to be seated so the kitchen could catch up on orders. When we were seated, I ordered the spicy buffalo chicken wrap with a few modifications (no buffalo sauce and sub out ranch dressing for Caesar). They easily accommodated that for me. It also came with a side so I got the mac & cheese. Everything was delicious, but the food took a bit long to come out (at least 30 minutes). It helped that the restaurant had lots of TV screens for entertainment and the server made sure our drinks were always topped off. This is a great place to go for bar food and drinks. My favorite thing is the chef typically changes things up and will make a sandwich of the day so be on the lookout for that special menu when you visit. read more

"Remember that place in Winston where we got that plate of fish & chips that was SOOO good? What was the name?....Foothills Brewing!" That was it! We HAD to make the drive. We hit there and almost all of the dining room was empty but the hostess said that we could be seated but would have to wait about 20 minutes to be served because there was one group of about 15-20 people. The wait staff didn't feel that way however. Multiple people came over and helped us almost immediately with minimal wait. We both got the FULL ale battered fish & chips and split a coleslaw, although I don't remember it looking like that. Good spot to meet with friends - room for improvement with service. I wanted to give this a 4, it's in a great location on 4th street, when I went there was trivia, but the service just missed the mark a bit. I came on a Thursday with some friends and trivia was starting at 7pm in the back room. We were seated up front but the mic and sound system were set up well so we could still participate. Our server seemed a little frenzied and not the most personable (not rude, just not as friendly as I would hope/expect). We split a giant pretzel and ordered some beer and cocktails. I got the spicy margarita and enjoyed that. My friends left a little sooner than I did, and I arrived somewhat late, but our server brought our checks out literally before I even received my food! I stayed to finish trivia and when my waiter came over to check on me he started to ask if I wanted another drink and then abruptly said "Oh you're closed out!" I actually did want another round but didn't want to go through the hassle of starting another tab.. Trivia was super fun though, the cuban sandwich I had was robust and hearty but lacking in seasoning, plus the meat was just a little dry. It needed a dipping sauce or something. I think this a decent place in a great location. If they fine tune their flavors a bit and work on service, it would get another star from me! read more

They do have a side room if you have a much larger party but it's possible a reservation would be needed. The service was friendly and the food itself was great. They have a decent amount of beers on top along with other drinks. Honestly not much to complain about with this restaurant. Why not five stars? I received a surprise change of $0.75 because I ordered a side of ranch with my fries. The service was excellent. Micki , our waiter, was very courteous and helpful in offering lunch options. He suggested substituting tofu in the buffalo chicken wrap, it was delicious. The beers were good; we chose the stout since unfortunately they were out of the pumpkin ale. Liked the ambience, clean and nicely laid out. Music was at a good level where you can hear it but not so loud that it drowns out conversation. Very convenient to the Marriott Courtyard, next door. Just found out from the manager that this is a repurposed building. It used to be a car dealership. That's so cool, instead of tearing down and rebuilding they capture the essence of the history. I decided to update my review since it was a few years ago that I wrote it. We came in to listen to jazz and drink some local beer. We sat down and around four different servers saw us and ignored us. I asked my wife if we have to order from the bar. She shrugged and said she asked. One of the aforementioned servers told her something and my wife came back to the table. She told me the server said someone would be around to us "eventually"....lol. I was very vocal in my laughing at the ridiculous statement. Eventually a server came to the table and we ordered the beers and my wife wanted a dessert. Foothills Brewery (Downtown Winston-Salem) I've waited a few days to post this review because I so wanted it to be good. Foothills makes some of my favorite beers, and this experience will not change my feelings for Jade, nor Hopyum. They are both excellent. We haven't been to the downtown restaurant in quite some time. I was just not impressed by their food overall. But visiting family wanted to go, so we gave it another try on the Friday night before Christmas. It was a rainy night, and when we arrived about 6:00pm, there was no one there. We were seated right away and our server took and delivered drink orders. By 7 or so, the crowd wandered in. Our visiting family members decided to split the Reuben sandwich. The kitchen cut the sandwich in half and served two plates with fries. It looked good, and they said it tasted good. Carolyn and I decided to split the Pub Melt burger. They also cut the sandwich, and served each half with fries. The menu called for grilled onions and cheese. Now, I've had many a patty melt and was looking for a nice, messy burger with tasty grilled onions and lotsa cheese. yum. What we got was your basic burger, served on sourdough bread, with lettuce and tomato, a cold slice of cheese, and a tiny amount of grilled onions. I thought we were served the wrong sandwich! I alerted our server, who said it didn't look right and headed for the kitchen. She returns with the manager who apologized and said our order was being remade. The new order arrived and, walla, the same thing. The manager checked by and I said this didn't look or taste like any "melt" I had ever had. He said: "yeah, when I came here I was surprised they put lettuce and tomato on a melt." Oh well, we ate the second sandwich, but it was not at all what we had hoped for. I guess it was an ok burger, but it was no melt! The hand cut fries, crispy, were very good, and another Hopyum saved the day. This place has such potential. A cool, downtown location. Great beer. Decent atmosphere (although a bit noisy). But the food just doesn't do it for me. Read the menu carefully, and ask questions. The chef has his own idea of how things should be and ut probably won't match your expectations. read more

Stopped in here on Valentine's Day between morning coffee and lunch. Had to check it out as a craft beer fan, especially since it is Winston Salem's first brewery. Love the beer they make, love the little tasting and presentation they give. Food and service were ok. It wasn't too busy but it took a while for every order to come out. The fried mushroom app was tasty and well made, but again, took a long time before it came. One bonus is that it opens at 11am so it was a fun spot to celebrate with a little day drinking on Valentine's Day. Most bars, breweries, wineries, lounges seem to open up later in the day...typically. Overall, a fun atmosphere with great beers. read more

We stopped by Foothills a few weeks ago as it has been atop our list of breweries in the Winston area to try. We stopped by about 8ish on a Monday and were seated immediately which was great! I ordered a Thousand Smiles Golden Ale to start and we got a Bavarian Pretzel to start and it might be one of the best fresh pretzels I have had. Perfectly soft and salted combined with the beer cheese was top notch. Honey-cinnamon spread was a nice addition as well. For the main dish I went with a Torch Pilsner to drink (a bottled favorite of mine for a while, even better fresh on tap) along with the Dirty South burger. This had pimento cheese, fried pickles, bacon and tomato atop a perfectly cooked patty. All of the toppings were a perfect combination flavor wise. Only thing I would change is going for regular pickles over the fried pickles. All of mine were a tad on the soggy side and I think regular pickle slices would have sufficed. All in all still a damn good burger! I ordered the Mac and cheese as a side and it was delicious as well; Creamy, cheesey goodness in a bowl. My girlfriend got the Winston Hot Chicken Sandwich and it was very tasty as well. The chicken was fried crispy and the hot sauce was the perfect enjoyable spice level. Definitely recommend all to give them a try, if not for the beers they brew, for the tasty food they make as well! read more

Satisfied with my first time visiting Foothills. The dining room has plenty of seats and there's an event space upstairs. The back has a bar and a more brewery-like atmosphere. Foothills has your pub staples: burgers, sandwiches, etc. coupled with a rotating beer selection. Our server greeted us promptly after we were seated. My group needed some time to browse. She came back after a satisfactory period. The place wasn't busy and she can tell when a table's ready to order. My meal of choice was a Carolina Blonde with their "Shanewich" special. I chose to have the sandwich's contents prepared as a plate. I'm glad I did that, as I wasn't in the mood for eating a bun. Will gladly be back next time I'm in Winston-Salem. read more

Great experience at our visit to Foothills last week! We started off the meal by getting the ENORMOUS pretzel which comes with a cheese sauce and a cinnamon sugar butter. Both were delicious (personally not a mustard fan so I loved these two options!). I had their Hazyum beer which is my new favorite by Foothills and my husband got the beer snacks flight. I forgot to take pictures of our meals but I had the ranch house chicken sandwich which has a little kick to it, but the corn helps give a little sweetness to it too which I loved. My husband got the elote chicken pasta which is his go to. They do also have a kids menu, my daughter got the chicken tenders and fries which honestly I was super impressed with the quality of both. The chicken tenders have some house-made batter on them which give them the perfect crunch. The service was so fast and efficient and we loved the added surprise of a band playing around 5pm on a Sunday. Kept my daughter entertained! What a wonderful time finally visiting Foothills!!! We were able to get a spot at the bar and were immediately greeted by a kind bartender. He got us a sample and helped us choose what we wanted. I tried the Octoberfest and quite liked it. The menu has so many options! And in addition to the regular menu, they have daily specials. So much fun! The specials include a specially created sandwich by the chef which this Saturday was a poutine burger. My friends ordered it and it was incredible. A big ol' burger topped with fries, cheese curds, and gravy. Wow! I kept it simple with my go-to buffalo chicken wrap. To be honest, it was just okay. The chicken was a bit dry and it lacked flavor. But the tots were amazingly crispy and salty. I also really liked the ranch which I'm assuming was homemade. A heavy dill flavor but I liked it. I would 10/10 go again and try something different. Pilsner aren't the easiest beers to make and a former brewer said that it was a very clean Pilsner. So I'll take his word for it. I don't remember what I ordered... likely a few side dishes. We had this on our radar for a while now and decided this weekend we would check it out. We arrived about 3:30pm on a Sunday. Parking is a bit hard to find on West 4th Street but we circled the block and parked on a side street. It appears to be located in an older brick building with a lot of history. There are tables on the sidewalk in front. When you walk inside you first see the dining room. The area in the back is the bar which also has booths and tables. It was not very busy in the dining area and most of the tables and booths were open. We were initially taken to a booth in the dining are but my wife wanted to sit at a table in the bar area so the host took us there. The bar area was much busier with most tables taken and people seated at the bar. It felt a lot cozier there. We were seated at a tall table. We were promptly provided menus and had our drink orders taken. We saw they had a Bavarian pretzel appetizer with beer cheese and honey cinnamon spread. We ordered that when our drinks arrived. The pretzel arrived a short while later and looked awesome. It came with only a small container of beer cheese which we love. My wife said she would try the honey cinnamon spread which she knew I would not eat so I could enjoy the beer cheese. It all tasted good we just wish the beer cheese portion was bigger, definitely not enough for the size of the pretzel. We placed our orders and my wife chose the half pub salad and a bowl of chili. I ordered the Dirty South Burger with no tomato and fried pickles on the side because my wife wanted to try the pickles. I chose tots as my side. When our server refilled our waters, we asked for napkins and silverware. We did not have any while we ate the pretzel. Shortly after that our entrees arrived. Everything looked really good. The burger came with a small container of ketchup. I asked for more ketchup. My wife really enjoyed the salad. The burger was delicious. My wife kept commenting on how spicey the chili was. She shared some with me and I agreed, it was pretty spicy. the initial flavor is good but after a few seconds the bite kicks in and it just tastes too hot for our taste. The ketchup never came. We watched our server walk by several times and only stopped to refill water once. When we were finished, we had to grab our servers attention to get a to-go container for my leftovers because I never received more ketchup. We also had to ask for the check. Overall, the food was tasty, the atmosphere was cool and comfortable but the service was lacking. We feel some additional training in customer service and attentiveness would be helpful. read more
