This place is the only Irish Pub in the area, though there is one in Mocksville, and the one in Greensboro just recently closed. This is very much a neighborhood pub, and if you are not a regular, nobody knows your name or probably cares to. This place opened in 2006 in a down town area that was more than a little rough, but it took off, building a faithful following. COVID hit the spot hard, and the original owner closed the place in 2021. It reopened in 3022 under new management and seemed headed in the right direction. But recently things have turned very messy, with unpaid wages and vendor invoices, The State has several investigations going on at present, and survival seems a long shot. I have eaten here a handful of times and found the food and service to be rather good. The Fish and Chips (comes in small or large), the Celtic Chili, the Corned Beef and Cabbage, the Reuben, and the Bangers and Mash were are worth a shot. I don't sense these spot will be open much longer. A shame really. read more

Back here after awhile bringing a friend who wanted to experience Irish food . Fish and chips and bangers and mash specifically. Unfortunately it didn't live up to expectations. Service was really slow, even though our server was really nice. No real atmosphere even though it got busier as the evening went by. Big blow when we were told they didn't have bangers to go with the mash. Disappointing. We went with the fish and chips and got a side of the garlic mashed potatoes. Also tried the scotch eggs. The eggs were actually really good and nice and hot. Served with a Dijon mustard they were probably the best part of the evening. Nice crunchy coating of breadcrumbs and sausage. Good app. The fish and chips were ok. Lots more batter than actual fish inside. Very greasy. Chips were not the steak fries thick cut like they use to do awhile back. We asked for curry sauce several times before we actually got it. As this is a must anytime you have fish and chips. They should just serve it with it. The mashed potatoes were awesome. Very rich and buttery. We ordered another side as it was the best thing on our table. We also had a round of vodka sodas. Standard good bar drink. This was quite the surprise for delicious food!!! My husband and I had been out and about all evening and were looking for a bite to eat close by. We stopped by here and had some great Irish influenced food. We both got the shepherds pie and it was perfection. Warm, cheesy and tender...been craving it since! The mac and cheese is "famous" for a reason because it is top notch. Service was ok, it's more of a bar scene so not expecting too much! Ambiance is very Irish bar like. I've been to Finnigan's many, many times, and it's always good food and great to see the faces I know. The staff are super friendly I came in for dinner with a couple of guys. The special was open faced Irish flag meatloaf with Smithwicks gravy. So good. I've had the gravy on other things and it's magic. I also had sweet potato fires on the side, as usual. We were waited on by Rachel, very friendly and smiley. Made us feel welcome and was always around. Between the atmosphere, food, and service, Finnigan's can't be beat. read more

Look, this is not a true Irish pub just an American sports bar. Service is average, food is average. The servers looks and attire lack class. If this is a franchise then they need a serious makeover. Gordon Ramsey should do a 30 minute show to spotlight the location. Other than that the owners should look in the mirror make it an authentic Irish pub. We decided to try out the Irish pub and I was so excited for corn beef and cabbage and draft beer after not having been here in decades. We had two hours before a concert to have dinner and ales. From when we walked in, it felt off. It wasn't busy. They were out of fries so we ordered hot chips. The main issue was that we ordered and, after 50 minutes, everyone around us who ordered after us had food. Our server checked in at about 30 minutes to ask if we had ordered. We had. Then she returned to say they were waiting on one thing. Then returned again to ask if we had the Reuben and fish and chips. I ordered corn beef and cabbage. At 50 minutes another employee came by and we let them know we had been waiting 50 minutes. He wanted to give us our food to go. Convenient when you're going to a concert downtown and that's the whole reason you're even there. Needless to say, we left. We won't be back. read more

I tried Finnigan's Wake years ago, and while I liked the classic pub decor and atmosphere, I was otherwise disappointed. Fortunately, both the food and service were much improved during a more recent visit. Our server was pleasant, and the kitchen seemed to have picked up speed. The Scotch eggs that my wife and I split were a touch overcooked, but the crisp breading was satisfying and the accompanying mustard was top-notch. I went with the bangers and mash as an entree, and it was delicious. The sausage had a firm bite, the gravy was rich, and the cabbage was as good as any I've had anywhere. The potatoes were definitely still somewhat chunky, but that didn't bother me. The "small" proved a decent-sized portion for one, which makes the "large" and its promise of leftovers for only a few dollars more a good value. Finnigan's Wake still isn't the best Irish eatery in the Triad, but it's one that I would no longer feel iffy about returning to. read more

We went on a busy Friday night and we were able to get seated right away. We were placed at one of the tables in the bar that were high tops, and the vibe was definitely a little rowdy. On brand for an Irish pub, but we would choose to sit in the main dining room next time. I chose the fish and chips and also got the ginger berry jam cocktail. The cocktail was sweet and was pretty average for alcohol content. The fish and chips were a bit disappointing. The fries were a little underdone and the fish was pretty basic. The fried coating on the outside of the fish was lovely, but the inside seemed a little overdone. I also ended up having a stomach ache after dinner, which isn't typical for me. Entirely possible it was a coincidence. This is definitely a great place to grab drinks and socialize. I'll probably order something a little different next time. read more

My mom & I come here every February & July to celebrate my dad as Finnigan's was the very first place him & my mom ever experienced after I moved to NC. Irish pubs are always a staple - they're coY, filled with comfort food, and lots of great beer and Finnigan's Wake is no different! It's massive inside so it's great for a large party or if you want an easy place to grab lunch or dinner. It's been around for awhile but recently went through a menu revamp so there are so many more options to choose from. We recently went for St Pattys Day which had a limited menu. We tried the Reuben sandwich, scotch eggs, homemade chips, and spinach and artichoke dip. The entrees were really great. The sandwich was loaded with toppings and had a ton of flavor in the sauces and the shepherd's pie was super hot, and packed with veggies and lamb - YUM! We went there tonight I was craving fish and chips. I saw one post that said it was the best they ever had. Boy was I fooled. Ours was over fried and the fries were under fried. It is obviously many of its customers are regulars. The woman that came on at 6 behind the bar stood and talked to two of the customers. She never moved. Finnigan's is the definition of a staple in Winston-Salem! The community rallied in excitement when Finn's reopened after a short closure that broke the hearts of many. Finnigan's Wake is back with all the delicious recipes you know and love, and all the vibes are just right. Like many natives, I spent my early twenties frequenting Finnigan's, whether it was a trivia night, the epic St. Paddy's Day celebration, or just popping in for a yummy meal and maybe a Guinness. Finn's has one of the best patios, in my humble opinion. Nicely shaded and spacious. Dogs on leashes are welcome! I love their scotch eggs, as well as the spinach artichoke dip. This is a great place to get some Irish pub staples. I was super surprised how delicious their Celtic chili was! Tons of meat and absolutely bursting with flavor. I opted to add cheddar cheese and sour cream which was a nice touch. Pairs great with a black & tan! I really like a lighter beer with my food, so the black & tan gives you all the flavor of a Guinness but a bit lighter with the addition of a pale ale. Their entrees here are stunners. Don't let the fact that this is an Irish pub fool you - the food is a cut above. The Ron's fried chicken is a favorite of mine. The chicken is so unbelievably crispy, and a sizable portion at that. Pair it with cheesy mashed potatoes and gravy? There's simply nothing better! Highly recommend. They are also known for their Reuben's! I came in and the staff was great and the food was ok. After I spent my money and paid my bill I was informed that I had to leave because I used to date one of the staff member's mothers. I said not a word to no one at all paid my bill and tipped really well. I didnt even see the staff member in question. My fiancee and I were told we weren't welcomed anymore because of conflict when there wasnt any. I contacted the general manager and there was no resolustion. Finnigan's is a Winston-Salem legend. It makes the top list for recommendation for visitors! Irish drinking food that is rich and delicious ! I highly recommend the Buffalo Chicken Mac and Cheese ( Jason's Mac and Cheese) this is soooo rich and perfectly creamy, cheesy, spicy, with little crunchy pieces of bacon and fried chicken that just really set it apart ! Top notch fried pickles too! I love that they fry whole pickle spear. If you're feeling extra Irish the corned beef and mashed potatoes are outstanding! (insert heart eyes) or fried chicken and mashed potatoes if you're not a corned beef fan. The cabbage is slightly sweet and not my preference. They honestly have a great selection on the menu with something for everyone including salads, sandwiches, and other Irish classics like fish and chips, or Shepards pie. Keep in mind these are heavily rich dishes so ready yourself! Bring a group and try it all! Enjoy lots of drinks and the festive atmosphere. And maybe pack the tums just in case. read more

There was a 20 minute wait so we went to the bar for a beer before our dinner. Since this is a classic Irish pub, I decided to go with a full Irish experience. I had scotch eggs for an appetizer and the shepherd's pie for dinner. I was not surprised at all how good this was because I'd heard from many people.
