She told him he needed to do a shot of whiskey. I tried to explain that he was drinking for the first time, and needed something mixed. She kept pressuring him about the shot, so he eventually agreed. He ended up throwing up in the bathroom shortly thereafter. The arcade games are really cool and fun to play. Frequented this arcade bar almost since its opening in 2017. My dad and I used to go regularly for father-daughter bonding time, as we are both avid pinball fans! We shared my very first alcoholic drink in this bar when I turned 21. In the past two years, it's become more of a music venue, and some of the games were removed to make way for a stage, but I didn't mind. Always had a great time here with friends and family! Unfortunately, just found out today that this bar is now closed. Sad to hear, but I'm so glad I got to make many happy memories here! I've been to some establishments with arcade games, and was really excited to find this in Winston Salem. Unfortunately, the experience was wholly disappointing and I can't say I would recommend it.' We arrived to find an unexpected $10/person cover charge because some guy was playing EDM music inside. The quality of the music was mediocre (not that I mind the genre, just didn't think his skill was there.) It was also extremely loud and we were left to yell in the ears of my party to hear each other. It was dimly lit with a cloud hovering from the many people using vape products inside. The floors were sticky in places. I was especially disappointed with the bathrooms, which had wet floors, locks which barely worked, and a toilet that didn't flush. As for arcades - Bring quarters, or small bills to exchange in the machine in the back. The games took real quarters and not tokens which I appreciated, though prices were not clearly marked. We encountered more machines than I would expect which were either not working at all, or would take quarters without granting credit and no way to return them back to you. The selection was a bit slim, but a decent starting place I suppose. I've certainly been to better arcade bars. As for the bar - I didn't like it. To be clear, we only ordered one drink, but that was enough to dissuade me. I ordered their special "pop rocks" drink, which in fact had nerds dumped on top and not pop rocks, and was mostly a glass of cheap (Popov) vodka with a splash of Blue Curaco. It wasn't good and was a waste of $10. I want to like the concept, but nothing about this experience makes me want to recommend it or come back to try again, when there are better options out there. read more

This place truly takes "quarters" for game play. The prices to play arcade games are NOT inflated. Typical arcade that I remember , some machines not working or not willing to take your quarter despite multiple attempts on both coin slots. For GenX , take 5 bucks and step back in time for a bit. We had a great time playing video games and pinball and would return. My husband and I stopped in during a date night and really enjoyed all the games available to play. The night we were there they (inexplicably) had a band getting ready to play. They might have been amazing, but it just felt off and we cut our time shorter than expected and headed out once they got started. We would definitely go back, and even take our kids, I would just avoid any time they have a band playing. The bartender and other staff were very kind and helpful. Side note: Parking is kind of a situation here, so definitely plan on driving around a while to look for a spot. read more

This place frustrates me. I want to love it, but unfortunately the execution does not match the concept. The concept is awesome: fill a place with a bunch of the old arcade machines from my childhood. They even charge the same prices from the 80's/90's, so grab those unused quarters! Sadly, half the games in there don't work and will eat your quarters, leaving you feeling silly and worthless. Now, I experienced a good amount of games that were broken or ate my quarters during my childhood, so this is kind of an authentic vintage experience, but that's one part of the experience I don't need to relive. They also have a bar and some retro gaming-inspired cocktail options, but honestly none of them really looked too appealing to me. A lot of them include like sweet tart and pop rock candies, and that's not my thing. When Lace and I stopped in this past weekend, they were also blasting music, so we couldn't hear the games. Not a huge deal, but not my preference. Also, a lot of people in there without masks on, so precautions were not well enforced. I came here once before the pandemic with my older daughter and I recall having a fun time playing Ninja Turtles and Street Fighter, Mario and Pac-Man, and showing my daughter these games for the first time. Sadly, a ton of these games were broken, and I recall the Mario pinball machine being broken last time too. So am I to understand that machine remained unfixed for over a year? I sure hope not! I'd like to try to come again, but I'd sooner skip it if that's how the execution of the concept is going to be. read more

My wife and I stopped in the other night after working at Liberty Arts Cafe two doors down. It was quiet as could be expected on a weekday evening so I was able to appreciate the "reboot" vibe -- the old school video games (including Donkey Kong, my fav) + a couple of pinball machines + 80s music loud enough to hear but not too loud to talk. Grabbed a couple of comfy seats at the bar. Asked about a cocktail menu. None available which makes sense if this is an 80s reboot bar since cocktail culture really made its comeback in the 90s. My wife asked for something with ginger beer. They didn't have any but the bartender said she makes ginger syrup and offered a cocktail with that. Good job on her part. I ordered an Old Fashioned and asked what rye whiskey they had. NONE. That's a bit of a fail since now that the bourbon craze is cresting, rye is surging. I recommend at least keeping a bottle of old school Old Overholt and maybe another affordable rye like Rittenhouse and even a Knob Creek Rye would be fine for this kind of bar. Since my hand eye coordination isn't what it used to be, I skipped Donkey Kong and played a few games of pinball with my wife (not well). At first the 50 cent price tag stood out, but then I thought if I was playing games for a quarter in the 1980s, 50 cents is still a good bargain for a few minutes of fun. Cheap drinks and plenty of arcade games to pass the time. I stopped in to Reboot for an hour on a Friday night. The bar was nearly empty when I visited, but, when I walked by at a later time, the bar was about half full. Because of the pandemic, signs throughout the bar request that your drinks are only consumed while seated. The beer I ordered was only $5 which is much cheaper than I'm used to. I'd recommend Reboot as a place for games and drinks. read more

My favorite dive in Winston! Awesome staff. Sometimes you may find a food truck nearby. Drinks are cheap. Obviously plenty of arcade to massage the social environment and serve as a bridge or pass time of conversation with friends and strangers. Outdoor lounge seating serves for a smoke break and boisterous conversation if desired. Street view gives you an atmosphere for closeness to the city and the skyline and the location is conveniently near other drinking and eating establishments! Love it. Say hi to Kelly. I used to LOVE this bar, a couple years ago we would spend hours here but we haven't been in about 2 years and came in on a saturday night and wow, have things changed...No more drink menu? It's also 18 and up now, which is a little frustrating because it can get packed super fast. I will also say it was SUPER hot in there even on a mild night. We had sweat dripping down our faces after only being there for maybe 45 minutes. Most games are out of order or eat the quarters, and it just feels dirty and sticky in there. Not sure what happened but I really hope they can bring this place back to life, it has so much potential and I really used to enjoy coming here, now it's not even worth it. read more

Best barcade in the area! What's great about this place is that you can go with friends to have some drinks and some friendly competition, or you can go by yourself and get in a few games of pinball. I've been here a few times and I'm always pleased with the atmosphere. Everyone is friendly, people are pretty considerate about not hogging certain games, and the drink selection is decent. I tend to get the Stone IPA which will set you back about $6. There really isn't a better place to go for a chill weekend vibe (if you're also looking to play games!). As far as the games go, they've got all your classics. I'm actually pretty impressed with how many machines they're able to fit inside. From what I can tell, there may have been two or three pinball machines that were out of commission, but beyond that, everything worked! This past weekend, we stumbled upon Reboot in downtown Winston. This spot is a throwback to the 80's. Some really great music combined with a bar, pinball machines, skee ball and classic video games such as Pac Man, Frogger, Super Mario Bros, Donkey Kong, Rampage, Mortal Kombat, Tekken etc. The best thing is, most games are only 25-50 cents per play. They have an ATM on site and a machine that makes change. The bar has beer on draft, bottled beer and a menu of some pretty cool 80's inspired drinks. I had the Ecto cooler and it was really good! Add in the outside sidewalk seating and this is a pretty cool place to chill... And right across from Crafted if you get hungry for some tasty tacos! read more

Reboot Arcade Bar is a cool little place over in the Camel City that serves some booze and has classic arcade hits scattered about. This is not some kid-friendly redemption arcade like Dave & Buster's that uses dumb swiping cards -- you bring your cold hard cash with you! Good staff and most games are 25 cents and pinball is priced at 50c; just like Abari in Charlotte. A few of the games were dead or took my money, but don't hesitate to report to the employees about it -- they may refund ya. A tech actually let me calibrate the guns on one of the games after they were being wonky. Their pinball machines are bitchin'. The two I played (Jurassic Park and Metallica) had hot flippers. I also played Star Wars Trilogy and the Episode I Pod Racer, which was one of the more pristine Pod Racer machines I've played. Plus, they've got some classics and a couple fighting/beat-em-up games, so I can't complain too much. It's more of a high 3/low 4 on this one. The game selection is slightly better than Abari's but if they could tune a few games up, I'll be back next time I'm in Winston. read more

Love this place! I'm so glad winston has a fun, old school arcade complete with quickly named cocktails and vintage movies playing overhead. We needed something like this here in town and I can tell every time I go they are here to stay. Reboot has a very laid back vibe and I've had fun experiences every time I've visited. They have just about every type of old school arcade game you could think of! Check them out next time you're downtown looking for something fun and different to do. Space Invaders. Asteroids. Super Mario Bros. Tetris. It goes on and on... so many classic arcade games, and they are housed in the proper cabinet with the proper controls too.
