I came here on Wednesday around 8:15 with my son to get a drink out. I have been wanting to try it for a while so when he suggested going out for drinks I was at the car before the word came out of his mouth. The location is great, except for parking, but you can find it either on the street or garages around. The menu given to us by the bartender looked very interesting and I wanted to give myself a few moments to look over the choices so I ordered a Boilermaker at $6.00. Good cost and they used a decent bourbon. Next, I decided to step out a bit and got a Blackberry Smoke (Los Siete Mezcal, Montenegro, Ancho Reyes, Orgeat, Salted Blackberry Agave, Lime, Heat Tincture) per the menu. I came here around 4:50pm on a Friday afternoon with co workers. It was hot outside and hot inside as well, in my opinion. It was fairly busy inside. We came in the back way and sat at the bar. I ordered Barbados Sunset for my drink. I think we were all just doing one drink. Little did we know, it was their grand opening. Around 5pm, they had a ribbon cutting and the Mayor of Winston was present. There was a small speech and mini photo oop. It was nice! My drink was ready when we went back inside. Here are my takeaways: Environment Located in the heart of Innovation Quarter this space is huge. Great for large parties or if you just want to catch up with friends or a partner. It has a modern vibe, low lit casual and laid back quality to it. The space has an industrial feel to it - high ceilings, a section with a sofa and chairs in the back for a more lounge feel and a huge bar with plenty of seating. Service The bar staff was amazing and made sure we had everything we needed. They were knowledgeable of the drinks and the menu and made great suggestions. They were also very welcoming. Drinks There are so many options to choose from and explore it can be overwhelming and it's also great to come back often to try many of their selections. Very impressive. Moving back to the triad I was not looking forward to leaving the cocktail scene but I was quickly surprised by the many options WS had to offer. When I found out D+D was opening a location downtown, I was excited to try. I live near the GSO location and have never had a chance to check it out but was in Winston and stopped by for the grand opening with a friend. Wow! Amazing cocktails and beautiful atmosphere. The drink menu is huge with a section of specially crafted cocktails by bartenders at various locations. We started with the Birds and the Bees (part of the Classic menu section) and the Elvis Presley. YUM!!! The EP was like a dessert. We finished off by splitting a Hellfire Club and both agreed that this delicious drink is perhaps our new go to drink for the summer. I did not order a beer on this visit but was delighted to see such a wide array of options in this department, as well. The Winston location seems to be a lot more spacious than the GSO one, with a huge wrap around bar and other seating throughout the venue. The bar itself is located in a hopping part of WS, just steps away from popular restaurants and Incendiary Brewing, making it convenient and even more appealing. It's so spacious! And clean. I was there on 4th of July so I can't speak to what the normal crowd looks like but there is plenty of space to accommodate large groups of people. They also have outdoor seating. The staff was great. I was greeting and given a menu as soon as I sat down. They have a pretty wide variety of drinks. There is something on the menu for everyone and if not I'm sure they could make it up for you. This summer I have been obsessed with espresso martinis and they have one on the menu so I had to get it. It's called the anchored martini. It was light in color compared to how they normally turn out so I was a little worried that I wouldn't like it but it was one of the best I have had. They do not have food, just options for pretzels or peanuts. Luckily there are a few food places near by, in walking distance. Overall Great service, great atmosphere. As a regular at the Raleigh and Greensboro locations through the years, I was excited to see Dram and Draught expand into our neck of the woods. I've really been enjoying cocktail bars lately and Winston is chock full of good ones. I love the atmosphere here! The vibes are spot on for Innovation quarter. Whether you're looking for a sexy date night or a casual drink after work, Dram and Draught is a great spot. Unfortunately, I didn't love the two drinks I ordered. The anchored martini was their spin on an espresso martini but there was just way too much foam for me. The pretty blue eyes drink was VERY strong and I didn't love that one either. Brand new to the innovative quarter in downtown Winston, Dram and Draught , well known in Greensboro and Raleigh, has a spot in the midst of a lot of cool bars and restaurants. They are a bar only, no food. I went during their opening week, they were still doing some final touches aesthetically, but they have a full bar, lots of bourbon and whiskey. All the bells and whistles to make great cocktails. A fabulous selection of glasses, props to their glass buyer! Really great seating areas, high tops, bar area, couches, kinda private areas away from the bar, and they are adding sone patio too. The service we got was great, I recognized our bartender from another downtown bar, so struck up a conversation with him. He seemed happy transitioning to DD. All the staff were very approachable and helpful and our bartender was great to put up with all my little demands. They have 14 craft beers on tap, nice wine list, great sounding cocktails. I also love that their cocktail list shows you which glass your drink comes in, I wish every bar did this!! Drinks! couple of glasses of Prosecco, a mimosa, and my G&T, which I have to say was one of the best I've had in awhile. He was great about making my drink as pretty as possible, through me asking for limes, and rosemary and he added the juniper berries. It was the perfect drink. He also let me pick my glass! Enjoyed our Sunday afternoon there, I do wish they had some food, like charcuterie, always pairs well with drinks. I get that they are trying to be a bar primarily. As a Raleigh local, visiting the new Dram And Draught in downtown Winston was a treat. The space is definitely a statement, it's huge, beautiful with cozy spots for a sexy date and lots of bar seating. Their menu is diverse with cocktails created by bartenders at all their locations around NC. I ordered the Small Axe cocktail, a Mezcal drink described as exotic, smoky and refreshing. I thought the drink was fine, but it wasn't something that I enjoyed enough to want to order again. They do have a large variety of spirits and a great space, but with an average cocktail price of $14, I don't think I'll rush back for the quality I experienced. Besides just a lack of enthusiasm for the cocktail, I wasn't blown away by the service. I visited on a Tuesday evening and there were maybe four other parties in the large space. I wasn't offered any recommendations, asked what I prefer, etc. Something that would've been easily given how empty the space was and gone a long way. One other odd note, they charged my credit card and delivered me my receipt (I was just getting one drink) prior to them delivering/making my cocktail. It felt a little rushed and odd again given the emptiness of the bar. Overall, beautiful space, large selection but didn't feel particularly welcome by staff and the cocktail game could be picked up a notch. read more
