We rented the upstairs space for a corporate event. We had an open bar, a large charcuterie board, and a full catered meal with burger sliders, roasted brussel sprouts, Mac-n-cheese, crab stuffed mushrooms, and desserts brought in by Cheesecakes by Alex. We had 35 guests. The room had just the right amount of seating for groups of people to visit with each other comfortably. The restroom was conveniently upstairs. We had two bartenders taking GREAT CARE of us the entire time! I really cannot say enough about how wonderful our experience was at Joyner's Bar! I would recommend spending a few extra dollars and going to a bar that takes customer safety more seriously. In my experience, this wasn't a place where I felt safe. My husband was assaulted inside the bar, and the people responsible left before police arrived. To make matters worse, we were told the cameras only livestream and do not record, which was incredibly frustrating because it meant there was no recorded footage available to help identify the people involved. Everyone deserves to enjoy a night out without worrying about their safety. Based on our experience, I would choose a bar with better security measures and recorded surveillance instead. read more

Joyner's has a great selection of bourbons and whiskeys and that's exactly what I was in the mood for! My partner ordered a gin bevvy from their new cocktail menu and I chose the classic Boulevardier. Both drinks were made quickly and were perfectly crafted by the mixologist. My boulevardier was served on large cubes and was boozy and bitter, just like I like it. My partner's drink was light, refreshing, citrus forward, and served up. Now, where to sit and relax with your delicious cocktail? There's a quirky room located in the back (giving speakeasy vibes), large booths, a few small tables by the windows, and tables outside. We met some friends here for pre-dinner drinks and this was the perfect place! Pros: We got there around 5pm on a Saturday and got a pretty big booth to fit all of us! They had a great cocktail menu, but the bartenders were also very accommodating to other requests (like my dirty martini). I personally liked that there wasn't loud music at this bar during our visit so that it was still easy to talk to our friends. I've seen on their board outside that sometimes on weekdays they even have fun events happening, which I'd love to try someday. Cons: all of our drinks took a little longer to make, which didn't bother me because we were there for a while, but I'd make sure you take that into account if going with a bigger group or need to account for time. If you prefer outdoor seating there are a few spots out on the sidewalk. If you sit up front by the windows the music can be a little loud...but that's offset by the great people watching! It's definitely my vibe with all of the books and 1970s decor. The wait staff both times I have been have also been fantastic. One of my friends preferred a mocktail when we went so the bartender made one up and let her name it which was super cool. The drinks by themselves deserve the 5 stars I gave. The cold buttered rum has got to be my absolute favorite cocktail on the planet by far. Creamy and citrusy all in one. I have also tried their "mothers milk" cocktail and their spicy margarita and both are phenomenal. I love that these drinks are strong without compromising on taste. We've been twice and had terrible service both times. During this most recent visit, we were incorrectly charged for someone else's drinks. To the tune of $50. The bartender offered no apology and didn't say a word when she gave me the corrected bill. When I looked at my bank account later, I had four different charges pending. I understand everyone has an off night, but two strikes, you're out. We ordered food and the staff person seemed annoyed, saying we'd have to wait until they could go upstairs to prepare it. If they were short-staffed, a simple explanation would've sufficed rather than the poor customer service we got. I went to this bar on a recommendation from a waitress at another establishment. I love a good neighborhood bar with an upscale feel to it. We were greeted immediately upon sitting. We checked the bar menu, check that price of the Clase Azul reposado tequila (FYI $45 per shot) and settled on a Melon Hellion. They put tajin on the rim on my glass, TAJIN! Last night was my first time at Joyner's after a dinner date with some friends downtown. I can't attest to the parking situation because it was raining and the guys let us lady folk out at the front door so we wouldn't get soaked. The exterior of the space has fascinated me for years since it's on a corner lot but the actual shape of the building comes to a rounded point and makes a cool, cozy interior nook. I decided immediately upon entering that it was a speak-easy vibe with a public door. Dark wood, interesting art, ceiling high shelves in the back lined with an impressive (permanently affixed) book collection and knick knacks of interest...the downstairs bar floats in the middle of the room with seating around the perimeter in little groups of 2-4, and there are several round booths closer to the back before the space splits left for the restrooms and right to a super funky 70's themed living room/seating area. The upstairs was just as cool with another large, beautiful bar and lots of seating around the perimeter and near the windows of the rounded point end of the building. I also saw one or two charming, tiny fireplaces that were lit on this cold, rainy, winter evening. The bars were well stocked and there was a specialty menu. Our friends knew they liked the "Bourbon and Blood", while I opted for a glass of bubbles and my husband got a double Jameson. We situated ourselves at a vacant round booth near the back in the first floor and were pleasantly surprised when a DJ finished his set-up and started cranking out fun music. He started with classic 70's and moved into more modern upbeat/danceable stuff. We are old and we're ending our night there while the younger crowd looked like theirs was just beginning at 10:30. I loved the atmosphere, the bathroom was clean, and I would absolutely go back for a beverage with the husband or a girlfriend. Really really cool space. read more

I always love Joyner's. The bartenders are great. They did start to add a fee to each check which I don't like. They had a pretty good dj. Craft cocktails and an additional upstairs bar on the weekend. I got a mezcal drink which I usually don't like but when smokiness was balanced with the juice and egg froth. This place was awesome. Felt very much like a speakeasy with its interior, expose brick, decorations, and bartenders, except that it was at ground level and had large windows. As a veteran of the bar industry for 30 years, the bartenders here were top-notch. The cocktails are outstanding, and the people know their stuff. The servers were attentive, super nice, and extraordinarily knowledgeable about drinks and the recommendations. The upstairs, which was closed for most of the time that we were there, due to a heating and air issue, is absolutely beautiful. I highly recommend this place in every way. Cool little spot in the west end of 4th street. Very nice laid back vibe inside , kinda speakeasy ish. Decor very old timey. Nice bar in center . They make their own mixers and a nice little chemistry lab of things at the bar! I ordered the French 75 and my friends got the red blend and a glass of cava. He made my drink perfectly , except they don't have champagne flutes ! I suggest they get those ! Glasses are important in presentation! Loved my drink, great refreshing lemony gin and bubbly mix. The wines were nice too. Ordered the bread service, to help soak up the alcohol! Slices of Bobby boy bakery bread with rosemary olive oil, whipped honey butter and blackberry presents. Joyner's Bar transported me back in time to a place I've never been before! Dark hardwood floors, leather chairs and an air of sophistication and cool! I imagine this vibe was what people of the Great Gatsby era would have felt like (only the Elite of course). The most difficult decision was where we wanted to sit as each space had its own unique touch. We opted for two chairs by the window, optimal people watching. The bartender rocked it out! There must have been 30+ patrons and only one bartender visible and yet he remained poised, polished and prompt the entirety of our visit. I don't know what an authentic speak easy would actually look like, but this has to be close. They really put some effort in the buildout and decorations and it shows. I'd pay for a water just to walk around the place. We paid for drinks instead. They weren't cheap, but not awful for quality mixed drinks. I had a sazarec and my wife got a Black gin ricky. They were both tasty. A few other drinks on the menu looked pretty good so I'll definitely be back to try some more! With that said I didn't see much of a beer selection (they did have some cans and bottles) or much of a whiskey bourbon selection for straight pours. We are starting out our anniversary week with a few fun stops. After a great dinner we weren't ready to end the evening. A cocktail was the perfect cap on our evening. There's a short cocktail menu, which also includes beer and wine selections. But the bar is deeply stocked, and the bartenders are knowledgeable, so other cocktails can be had as well. Skeeter elected for a Southside made with Sipsmith gin. It was light, lemony and refreshing. I chose the Mexican Hot Chocolate with habanero infused tequila and a toasted gram cracker crusted marshmallow. It was rich and hearty with the perfect amount of heat.
