Breweries are not my thing as I'm not a beer drinker but this is a cute and so clean establishment that also serves a few different wines across the color board! Service was great and helpful in telling me what was what . They do serve a lot of beer and make their own beer too. Great seating inside but I loved their nicely laid out patio with lots of plants and colorful flowers. Such a nice place to hang out and catch up with people or work as some were doing. Part covered part open. This is a quaint spot I wish I'd discovered before! Near the new Salem bottleworks dining places and next to east of Texas, nice place to come for drinks pre dinner. A very interesting Czech Republic inspired brewery that is cozy and quaint and must to visit. You feel a little transported to a different country when you're here. At first I was wondering why they lay the foam on thick, but according to their website, they do it on purpose to add to aroma and flavor. I liked that! I enjoyed a delicious Octoberfest larger. They offered other Czech and Bavarian style largers too, which I want to try when I'm back. We sat inside by the window and it was just enjoyable. Staff was great too. read more

By far, the most "craft" of the breweries my husband and I tried while in town for the weekend! We had the pale ale and marzen and thoroughly enjoyed both styles. I love when you take that first sip and you can just taste the quality. The atmosphere was also classy but not snobby with both indoor and outdoor seating. Quite literally the cleanest, best tasting beer I've ever had. I've been here multiple times so shame on me for just now getting around to writing a review. Most recently stopped by on a Saturday afternoon, perfect thing to hit the spot on a hot day. This place pretty much embodies everything I think a local brewery should be. Everything is made in house so it's always super fresh, the staff are easygoing, friendly and clearly passionate about their product and craft. Focus is on a smaller high quality selection beer and I think it pays off. Walk-up ordering at the back of the place was easy and quick, and the bartender was pleasant. The menu with current selections provided a nice variety. My daughter ordered To Be An Echo, the black lager that she likened to a Guinness. I ordered the German cider and found it crisp with a subtle fruit lingering on the palate and light. Perfect for me after the brisket sandwich I had consumed earlier. The establishment seems on the smaller side but the outdoor seating adds enough additional spots. I found my time here to be low-key and pleasant. On a side note, the area's Moravian heritage is found in the 12° -The Reworking Czech-inspired pale lager. Pretty fantastic that one of the best breweries in NC is located in Winston Salem where my parents happen to live. One of the only places in the state that I know of that uses horizontal and open fermentation like they do in Germany and Austria. Not to mention superior ingredients. Needed help on the proper pronunciation but the staff knew it well. Among the best white wine I ever had. Full Transparency: I've had one beer at Lesser-Known, so this review is mostly about their space and service...and exactly one beer. I had their Helles Lager...poured directly from the brite-tank. True ti their name, Helles is a style I've never seen brewed in this area...at it was pitch-perfect DELICIOUS!! The space is cozy and veeeeeery original. Mostly outdoor seating, with a few tables in the main taproom and (cheers to the owners) two small tables in the brew house...so you can have a beer next to MUCH more beer!! The tap master was very knowledgeable about their beers. The vibe is laid back, friendly, and super local neighborhood chill. It's easy to say, Lesser-Known is love at first sip. the beer is very very good. the decor is kind of funky rustic industrial farmhouse. the servers were helpful, but I'd question some of the conventional wisdom of the place. serving off the tank is excellent, but limiting pours to full size is extremely limiting. I usually have 1 beer. if I can divide that into 4 2 oz pours to enjoy several flavors, even better. the server confidently informed me that one cannot properly experience the beer with only an ounce or two. as an experienced pro brewer and commercial beer judge, I'd have to disagree. offering smaller portions to allow us to try multiple offerings would vastly improve the experience. read more

This is a very new brewery here in town and definitely the smallest one. I have been there twice now and enjoy it mainly because it's in my neighborhood. The beer selection is definitely different from other breweries as you don't see the IPA and other popular beer styles. The select beers they have are really, really good though. The people are super friendly and the outdoor patio is definitely one of the better ones in town. I also think it's kind of cool that they cook hot dogs and even have a vegan hot dog to sell. If you're looking for a smaller, more intimate brewery then this might definitely be your place. It's on Broad Street in West Salem, which is One of my favorite areas. read more

Recently visited W-S for the first time, and was immediately charmed by the 'neighborhood' feel...where many of the residential areas are within a short walking distance of small, local restaurants, coffee, bars, etc. Naturally, we started hunting for the perfect neighborhood beer. After some trying, we found the perfect pour at Lesser Known. Their tank pour lager is served wIth a lovely thick head, and at perfect temperature. For non beer drinkers, they had a fabulous selection of wines I'd never heard of before, so of course we dove right in and tried several. Small but not cramped indoor space is complemented by a larger multi leveled outdoor space (where pups are welcome). Snacks always available, along with the periodic visiting food truck. read more

Lesser-Known is a great addition to Winston-Salem! It gives intimate neighborhood brewery without all the fluff. Their Czech style beers are so unique and I find them to just be so fresh, light, refreshing and crisp! The beer style is a great alternative to the heavy craft beers and IPAs you'll find at other breweries in the area. The interior is so relaxing and I really love the phone boxes on each table. Place your phone in the box and enjoy some conversation with your buddies! The owners are good people and have a great start up story I was happy they shared with me the night I went. Setting the scene in a neighborhood that needed some rejuvenation with historic roots this cool brewery see less nestled in the broad st old Salem neighborhood. Love the building and atmosphere. Good folks with a cool story brewing great beer. The two owners toured cities in nc and feel in love with the charm of Winston returning to open a new brewery I'm thankful for as a WS lover.
