This small tavern is a bit off the beaten path, between University and Reynolda Road. It's a dive bar (a REAL dive bar) with a reputation for good pub food, and a good beer selection. The parking lot is a combination of broken pavement and gravel - organized parking is not an option! I ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger and a starter of Cheesy Potato Skins. The order took a while, this is a bar first and foremost! Have a beer and chill. This was decent food but would benefit from more beer consumption! The burger was large, but was not well constructed, parts moving everywhere. Taste was just so/so! Cheesy Potato Skins were lightly cheesy, but more than a little greasy! The bacon on this item as well as the CB was precooked and left on the griddle for a bit - good set of your own teeth needed here! Probably no return here!

We were in the area and wanted to grab something to eat. My wife checked our bookmarks and mentioned this place. After walking in, we initially felt like we were outsiders. It seemed as if everyone in the place knew each other. Don't get me wrong, everyone was nice and welcoming. After we commented to the bartender, we learned they were going to be celebrating a birthday today and we ended up chatting with a few people. The inside was pretty small with the bar in the center as you walk in and the kitchen behind that. There is bar seating and a few tables around the bar. There is a also another room toward the back. After briefly checking out the inside, my wife and I grabbed two seats at the bar and asked for menus when our drink order was taken. Our drinks were provided promptly and our meal orders were taken. My wife ordered the club sandwich and I decided to try the Philly sandwich. We both ordered tater tots as our side. We did not see any beer on draft but they do have hard liquor and canned beer. A lot of people were drinking mixed drinks or Budweiser. Our meals arrived in a timely fashion and looked awesome. The club sandwich my wife ordered was huge. Everything was delicious. The club sandwich drew some attention as I took some pics and we were even chatting with the people next to us at the bar. This was a really cool experience to be so warmly welcomed and the food was delicious. We will be back!

The bartender was very sweet but the whole place was kinda off putting. So I would say great service but I wouldn't go to the patio.

We have always wanted to try this place out seeing it many times off of the roadway and it looked interesting because it was a converted gas station. As we parked and approached campus gas we noted that there was plenty of outdoor seating, primarily wooden benches, tables and places to lounge around outside near the fire pit. There were people enjoying a drink and playing a lively game of cornhole. We strolled around then went inside to explore what the business had to offer in the way of drinks and maybe get something to eat. As it turned out, it was around 9 o'clock, and the lady that came out from the kitchen told me that the kitchen was closed for the evening so we weren't able to get any food at that time so we walked around inside and looked at the small things for sale and the decorations saw the nice high top bar and chairs and since things were winding down, we decided to leave instead of having something to drink. We didn't see a bartender or someone to serve us a drink anyway. So as it stands, we'll have to come back by some other time and check it out. I hear the food is interesting, casual and good and there are a lot of beer selections. I look forward to coming back another time and trying the food and drink.

It's an old-style gas station you'd expect to find on Route 66 that has been converted into what I'll call a local pub. It's got some simple comfort foods to go along with a wide variety of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Barstool table seating inside with picnic tables outside. They've got a cornhole set outside to complete the backyard picnic feel, and I've even seen customers seated with their dogs. Very cool. My wife and I were cheerfully greeted when we walked in. We shared an order of chicken tenders and tater tots. My wife got a bottled water, and I picked a NA beer from their selection. Finally, someplace that carries an assortment of NA beers! The food took a while to come out, but this isn't a fast-food joint and it was nice to slow down and have a conversation. The chicken tenders and tater outs were hot and tasted great. Definitely a generous portion of both and I'm glad we got just one order. In summary, the place is nothing fancy. It's just a great place to hang out with friends and enjoy some comfort foods and frosty beverages. It's definitely on our "will return" list.

From the minute we walked in, we were greeted promptly and seated at our reservation time. They even had handbag clips to put on the edge of the table so we didn't have to put our purses on the floor - loved that! Everything we ordered tasted so good! We got the Rice Paper Tacos as appetizers. They came out looking like art on a plate and they were very gracious to tell us that there's not a wrong way to eat it. I got the Korean BBQ Beef as my entree and it hit the spot! My friend got the Modern Tuna Nicoise as her entree and it looked too pretty to eat, but she said it was delicious! For dessert we got the Passion Fruit Panna Cotta. It was the best way to end the night. We enjoyed our meals and the service was top-notch! Ambiance was nice-we sat in the outdoor area and they had a nice simple table display with a small table lamp that I was intrigued by. I'd never seen one so small but what I liked about it was that it didn't take up space on the table. Usually, the displays take up more space than the food sometimes, so I appreciate the little details. If you've never been to Betty on Burke-you must! I was very pleased with my experience and will definitely come back. PS- they validate parking so you don't have to pay the 3rd party parking system in their lot- HUGE plus!

We came here because it was rated highly on Yelp and near the old interstate we were driving on. Why not:)!? Korean barbecue bowl was good with some nice chilled cucumbers. Salty for my taste. Not my favorite place ever but very solid.

(3/5) Village Tavern…read moreon Reynolda Road left me with two very different impressions: an excellent kitchen and a disappointing front-of-house experience. Let's start with the food. I ordered the meatloaf, and quite honestly, it exceeded my expectations. Meatloaf is one of those dishes that is often average at best in most restaurants, but this version was exceptionally well executed. It was moist, flavorful, and clearly prepared with care. The green beans were equally impressive--fresh, well-seasoned, and cooked perfectly. I was not expecting the meal to be nearly as good as it was, and credit is absolutely due to the kitchen staff. The food alone was worthy of a return visit. Unfortunately, the dining experience itself told a different story. From the moment we sat at the bar, the atmosphere felt tense and chaotic. Employees appeared visibly frustrated, and there was frequent yelling behind the bar throughout the evening. Rather than creating an inviting environment, the service area felt disorganized and stressful. Our appetizer sat under a heat lamp for approximately 20 minutes before being served. Service from our bartender/server, Lashawn, was equally disappointing. When we requested a refill, she rolled her eyes and appeared irritated by the request. Plates were dropped onto the bar rather than placed down, and our check was tossed down in a manner that felt dismissive and unprofessional. I also observed a soda gun being stored in the ice bin behind the bar, which raised concerns regarding sanitation practices. The frustrating part is that the kitchen is clearly doing outstanding work. The meatloaf was one of the better restaurant versions I've had in quite some time, and the vegetables were excellent. However, great food can only carry an experience so far when the service and atmosphere leave guests feeling unwelcome. Food: 5/5 Service: 1/5 Atmosphere: 1/5 Overall: 3/5

When we first walked in, it was busy and we heard the hostess tell the couple in front of us they would need to wait over an hour for a table - Lucky for me my wife made reservations and we were seated immediately! It was a bit on the noisy side but not so bad we couldn't have a conversation. Our servers, Thomas, was fantastic start to finish with good recommendations, attentive service without being overbearing, and a great personality. Good staff make a business shine! We started with glasses of wine and were impressed with how generous they poured. Perhaps it was a visual illusion, but they felt like very large glasses of wine and made it feel like a very good value. They have a good selection of wines to choose from along with a full bar. Appetizer was the Crab Cake Egg Rolls, something I don't think I've seen anywhere else. They're cooked in Beef Tallow which gave a very savory flavor and crispy texture. They were a bit on the oily side but overall flavor was delicious, and I really liked the dipping sauce which was like a very herb-heavy tartar sauce. For entrees, my wife had the Filet and I had a New York Strip. I don't have the words to describe how delicious and perfectly prepared both of these were. I didn't even bother asking for steak sauce because the perfectly tender and seasoned steak didn't need it. Nobody wants to pay high prices for a steak and receive something low quality, and I was thrilled with the quality of the steaks here. Surrounding tables likewise had great looking meals and I overheard them voicing pleasure too. As sides go, the baked potatoes and salads were excellent too. I got the hot bacon vinegarette dressing and was surprised it was actually served quite hot. It had a really rich and slightly tangy flavor that was unique and I really enjoyed on my salad. I have no complaints here and will absolutely be back. Of course it's on the pricey end, but this is the type of establishment you reserve for a special night out, not your average Tuesday night. Give it a try and you won't be disappointed!
