    Paloma and Green man beer

Was here for a quick stop before doing some art in the Winston Salem area. They had about 8 different beer options and also a full bar. Right beside a few food spots as well, so it's perfect for a quick drink with friends before or after dinner.

There's a certain appeal for revisiting repurposed buildings and sites, especially ones that have historical significance in the area. The Hoots Milling Company Roller Mill is such a site and is the location for Hoots Roller Bar & Beer. Having heard about this microbrewery from a local, we visited on a Monday night. The unassuming location belies the taste of the craft beer on tap, brewed "in back." We met the owner, Eric, and he was kind enough to give us a tour of microbrewery and its history from the humble beginnings to present (in short form). We tasted the 6 brews on tap out of a normal 8 available. Eric said they are in a transitional time with the beer brewing. I really enjoyed the coffee stout. We eventually chose the Gashopper IPA that has grapefruit flavors and the McJuicy IPA that was a bit lighter than Gashopper and featured citrus flavors. The bar was lively and it appeared some regulars were there along with first-timers, like ourselves. We were told that food trucks are a feature, and that on Monday nights, the taco truck parks here. We feasted on authentic tacos while we were there! If you're looking for a laid back place with good brews, check Hoots out here in the Millworks location. I'd definitely would return if ever back in the area.

If you're in or near the Winston-Salem area, you gotta check out one of the coolest beer bars and breweries off-the-beaten-beer path: Hoots! The owl-meets-old timey undersea themed venue is an experience in and of itself! Every nook and cranny is worth investigating! The immediate attention grabber is of course the OG scuba helmet sitting on the bar, but it won't distract you for too long once you start drinking! The beers here run a variety of styles that are true to type while still being able to be unique to the brewery. The bartender I had was amazing, as was the awesome yet humble brewer/owner. Seriously, the absolutely nicest people that were so gracious in explaining the beer offerings and even let me try a couple extra with my flight so I would be able to try the full breadth of beer-stylings! I also loved that this seemed to be very much a local and regulars hangout, but the fact that I was a newb didn't make me feel unwelcome, but more like I was being invited to join in on the secret and the fun! Will definitely be back any time I'm in the area and highly recommend this place if you like chill, welcoming vibes, delicious beer, and a variety of nice people!

Quickly has become a new go-to spot for us when we want to have a chill/pleasant experience for a glass of liquid encouragement. I actually did have to think on if I wanted to review or not because we love it the way it is. I can't imagine it changing and becoming super busy. We selfishly like our pleasant spot away from the loud crowds to crawl into....because I truly want them to succeed here and stay open for years to come I want to give a nudge on your shoulder to come give this a try if you're reading this far into my review and want some liquid encouragement for yourself...lol! Parking....they actually have several places right in front of their door... the best address to use is 840 Manly Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27101 (thanks for that tip fellow Elite/ Yelp communitym leader, Erik), though you can park anywhere at the mill and walk. It's not that far from any parking spot there. Atmosphere: Very cozy/casual/slightly weird (in a good way). A good neighborhood bar vibe. The decorations are super unique and random. Alot of fun to look around. There is not a massive amount of seating but plenty for a small/maybe medium group. I have to give a very special shout-out to this place for hosting a private party for the Yelp Elite squad. We truly pushed boundaries on capacity, and the staff was super accommodating and did not appear stressed. Drinks: That's what they do here. They are a brewery with some good to the point brews. Nothing complicated. I did enjoy their helles lager. Light and refreshing. They have a full bar, and I don't think I have seen a brewery that offers the extensive number of options that they have. Customer service: My 1st time was at the event I mentioned above, and the staff was awesome. After coming back since then a few times, we have only had fantastic customer service. No matter how busy they are, we are always acknowledged quickly and served within a very decent amount of time I hope this place continues to grow and still keep their charm that keeps us coming back for more

Local family owned, wonderful staff, incredible selection of beers made by their own brewery, the place is so cute and modern inside, nice lighting, great prices on top shelf drinks!

Hoots is a great new brewery/bar located in the West End Mill Works. To get here you turn down the little street right before the gas station that you think will lead to nowhere. False, it leads you right to hoots! The interior of Hoots is nice, its not too big, but not too small either. I have been a bit earlier on a Friday night and had no problem getting a table. The plan is for them to start brewing their own beer starting this month (January 2014)! The ladies that I went with enjoyed Hoot's current beer selection that they were rocking and I went with a cider. I wish I liked beer, I really do! I have also tried some of their cinnamon soda and it was awesome; which leads me to imagine they make pretty good cocktails which I will have to try the next time I am in. The bartenders are always friendly and answer any questions you may have. Word is that they make a pretty spectacular bloody Mary with homemade mix for Sunday brunch! They have a patio out front which lends itself to be the perfect setting for a Sunday afternoon Bloody Mary once the weather warms up.

Cool little bar that's got a small cozy vibe to it. They have really good selection of mixed drinks and affordable draft prices. The outdoor space has a similar feel. The whole place ties as much into the building complex as a whole as it does just the bar itself. Based on its location being so far off from where we are, we only have come when waiting for a table at The Porch. But I wouldn't hesitate to stop in if I was nearby. The games seem fun, if I were hanging with friends. For people in the area, this place seems a no brainer.

Hoots is a small batch brewing company that shares space in a building with Porch Cantina. If the Brady Bunch opened a bar in their Rumpus Room, it would be Hoots. There's a real seventies feel throughout the décor. Love the portholes on the wall where you can look at the brew tanks. And who doesn't love an old brass diving helmet with beer taps in it? Plenty of seats, indoor and out, relaxed lighting, 3 pinball machines. The bartender was super nice, knew some stuff about the beer and made a killer Fresh Cucumber and Mint Cooler when I switched gears from beer. It was made with gin that was made locally (the next building over) and had more of a citrusy taste than the usual juniper berry. Now for the beer - really enjoyed the Gashopper IPA (one of their flagships) and loved the seasonal Strawberry Saison. Nuff Said!!

First review? Hell yes. Only time will tell if Hoots becomes a classic, but this new entry into the West End bar scene has all the makings of a player. With a Soon-to-open craft brewery, the Bar sits in the renovated Hoots mill property. (Still TBD when the first home pours will be available). Great look and feel - the interior is laden with funky woodwork and has a warm industrial feel of a cool city loft. Good cheap beer and a competent booze wall of offerings have what you need. The servers were friendly and generally seemed stoked to be here. You can sit outside at one of the tables and admire the big ol' lot and old ass buildings. Cool cool bar and general hangout spot. Hope it's here to stay.

    Owner, Eric, explaining the styles

I spent a couple days in Winston Salem recently with my daughter and we decided to check out a few local breweries. Hoots was our favorite for both the beer and the vibe. It's a small semi-hidden gem that's quiet and relaxed. The perfect place to go with a small group of friends for conversation and beer. They had a nice representation of beer styles all very solidly crafted. My daughter favored the wheat and surprisingly the ESB and it was the Czech pilsner and cloudy IPA for me. The owner was there and explained how all the styles were created and gave us an impromptu tour while we were there. Hoots has a full liquor bar too, a rarity among st breweries and the liquor's not an afterthought either as the bar is fully stocked. There's a really good little Mexican restaurant in the same building for those extended sessions when you need some food.

this review is based on a single visit. (Yes, I know the limitations of that.) When were there the place was not busy. We had a couple of great beers (theirs!!) and had a ncie chat with the lady behidn the bar. We'll be back -- we really liked the joint!!!
