5 years since my first review of Foon's and I found myself in VA beach again. It was every bit as fresh and delicious as I remember! The portions are large so I had plenty for lunch the next day. Also I thought it was above and beyond to wrap the containers in extra plastic just in case the containers leaked. The guy working was so awesome, I knew they were going to close soon so I called my order in as I drove. I didn't have a menu so I literally described what I wanted from my last Yelp review lol. Extremely LOW quality food. Nasty frozen egg rolls that would make Sam's Club egg rolls look something from a 5 star restaurant. Everything is doused in thick sauce so each dish tastes and looks exactly the same. Plus the food simply smells bad, like wet dog that rolled in skunk. My three teenage nephews will eat anything and they wouldn't eat this. Our order was delivered to our house. Now you can get the exact same excellent quality, flavor and freshness at the smaller mostly take out and delivery( has two small tables) location in the small strip shopping center location( 2 doors down from Famous Uncle Al's). This was a very solid dish with good flavor and good chicken. It was a combo so it also included some pork fried rice and an eggroll. So yelp helped us find this little gem with all the great comments and sure enough they were right. I'm a big fan of Chinese food and all I can say is that this is by far the best take out place I've been to here in Virginia Beach. Their prices are very reasonable and customer service is at its best. My kids love the pork fried rice and chicken low mein. Foons has been cutting back considerably on their dishes, it seems. Shrimp fried rice use to have usual veggies and good sized shrimp. The last 2 times, no veggies, barely any onion and shrimpy sized shrimp! Sesame chicken, dinner size, was smaller than most lunch portions this time around. Chicken lo mein wasn't horrible but lacked usual great flavor and some of the chicken tasted sour. Really hope this isn't going to be how Foons ends on Shore Drive. We have loved them since the original eat-in location down the road. Bring back the great quality, good cuts, and delicious food you're known for. read more

This is the second best Chinese food I have ever had in my entire life, only slightly bested by an obscure but locally legendary little place in Shasta City, California. What's amazing about Foon's (and the biggest complaints by ignorant customers) is that they do not over-salt the food and they actually use REAL CHICKEN. This is why certain people complain that the food "doesn't taste like other Chinese food" or is "bland." The beauty of the negligible amount of salt is that you can add as much soy sauce as you want to your own specifications! There are next to no Chinese food places in this area (and in a lot of areas) that use ACTUAL WHITE MEAT CHICKEN BREAST in their food. This is why you generally get the puffy, strange, spongy textured General Tso's or Orange Chicken and why other chicken dishes make you feel like you're eating random chicken parts (hint: you ARE.) Foon's doesn't mess around. -Great tasting food. -Not overly salty. -REAL chicken. -Unique menu items. -Quick courteous service. -Vegetable fried rice HAS VEGGIES IN IT!!! I have been going to Foon's since it opened in the previous location. The food is great and is prepared quickly. The owner, John, is always so pleasant and helpful. Often I stop by after a long day at work when I don't have time to cook. Particularly like Shrimp with Lobster Sauce, Moo Shu Pork and Hot and Sour Soup. But it is all good!! read more

I got tired of the same old, loaded-with-MSG Chinese take-out food and "Yelped" to find somewhere better. Foon's had good reviews, so there I went! Now I'm ruined, and Foon's is the only place I can go. Not only is everything fresh, but the portions are large, and they're reasonably priced. We love the dinner combos. We've never had a bad meal, and they even make my order gluten-free. In fact, I think they can make almost any dish gluten-free. No problem with special orders either (my son loves extra egg in his fried rice). It's a small place (two small tables, I think), so plan on eating at home. And when I ordered the other night, I noticed that they deliver to a limited area-sweet!! Oh, and the people who work there are friendly, which (for some odd reason) is important to me. This is hands down the best Chinese delivery food I have ever had delivered. The sauces are Flavorful and mainly traditional but What makes it so great for me is the quality of the meat used in every dish! No "mystery meat" chunks, instead they use all white meat chunks of chicken (family says other meats are excellent as well). I've tried the chicken in the following and it's all fantastic - lo mein, general 'tso (both mild and extra spicy), orange chicken, sweet-and-sour chicken. I think I've sampled other dishes when the family had delivery, but these are my favorites. If they are near you you gotta give it a try! read more

The food is horrible first time I've been there in years. I remembered they had the best fried rice so was excited to get it. The egg drop soup was watery no flavor. Shrimp lo mein had no flavor. Tried Foons on 11/21/2013. I got the mandarin shrimp! That was REAL not frozen shrimp in my mandarin shrimp. Every other Chinese place has shrimp that taste like chlorine but here it was real true and fresh jumbo shrimp And REAL crab in my ragoon but I didn't like how it wasn't a sweet cream cheese ragoon. It was basically crabmeat and herbs in a wonton but that's okay because it wasn't bad. I just prefer the crab ragoons with cream cheese The egg drop soup was the freshest I've had, it actually had flavor instead of tasting like water. My husband didn't care for his beef and broccoli but that's because He likes the dark brown really sweet sauce and foons was light brown and bland. But he said it was still good! Next time we will try the Mongolian beef and the Singapore pancit! Can't wait to come back! The man Who took my order over the phone even made me a small beef and broccoli for my kids as I explained to him that they would never eat dinner sized portion, and even though a small beef and broccoli wasn't on the menu he did it for me anyway. He was so nice and this is the first place where they actually speak fluent English and they can explain to you their food if you have any questions. I had a lot of questions about the Mandarin shrimp before I wanted to order it. After the man on the phone explained the Mandarin shrimp to me I decided to try it and I loved it.
