Sophia and I headed here for lunch last weekend. I came across this place years ago on Yelp but never had the time to try them out. They did close for a bit during the pandemic due to a staff shortage, but opened back up and haven't lost a beat. Local Yelpers have posted positive reviews on the food and service. Let's see how the visit went. We were immediately seated when we walked inside. They actually had a nice crowd inside which definitely had them busy. Since it's a dim sum restaurant, they came around several times offering small dishes. We declined until the very end and decided to order from their regular menu. My order was a cup of Egg Drop soup for appetizers and salted and spicy scallop, shrimp and squid. Everything was truly delicious. The soup was very hearty and full of flavor as expected. The seafood was fried perfectly and full of spices. The portion could've been a little more but nonetheless it was really good. To end our meal, we chose their shrimp balls off the dim sum plate. Overall I had a good first time experience at Jade Villa. I would def recommend going with an experienced group so you can 1. Eat as much as you want 2. Have an understanding of what's what if you're doing the dim sum since they didn't give you a menu that describes everything. Veryyy busy on the weekends and I don't think they take reservations. There was a line when we arrived on a Sunday afternoon before they even opened! Says a lot. My favorites were the spare ribs, beef stew, a type of taro dish, and the Chinese broccoli. went to the dimsum cart for the first time! and it did not disapoint! they do their dimsum cart on the weekends from 12-3. we got there at 1230 and already had a 20/30 minute wait but it was highly worth it!! i love dimsum and i think this is by far the best dimsum places in virginia beach, it is a little unfortunate that they dont have soup dumps or rice rolls but other than that I will 100% go again and be a regular dimsum cart person! I used to love this place back about 5-8 years ago before the renovation and revamp. Not sure if it was a management change but it definitely isn't the same. Service was terrible today, waited 30 minutes for Peking Duck (which should already be cooked, most chinese places have them ready and just need slicing). I ended up coming up to the cashier to just void the item since we were waiting for so long. One of the guys up front was mad at me about it but I've waited enough. My husband I love coming here - whether it's with our baby, friends, or family it's the best place to grab some really great chinese food (authentic and american style). my husband loves their peking duck and I am obsessed with their different dim sum options. My son (who's 1.5 years old) loves the taro dim sum and lomein. The service is always on point. Finally made it over to Jade Villa to experience a meal! We came for lunch and it was not busy at all - just a few other tables during our dining experience. Even so, the server seemed to be a bit overwhelmed and was struggling to keep up. We started with a few selections from the dim sum menu, which is really what excites me most about Jade Villa. The dumplings were all delicious, but the pork bun was very dry with close to no filling on the inside. As a heads up, not all of their dim sum is available all of the time. For the whole dim sum menu, you have to go on weekends early. We ordered Shrimp Egg Foo Young and Mongolian Beef as our entrees. The Mongolian Beef was delicious. Loved the veggies. I love that the carts are back! They updated the dining room to look less dingy but they didn't increase the space to seat the mass crowds that convene at 12. Get in line early (11:30) to be seated in the first wave, otherwise, you'll be on a call back waitlist 45 mins later. Another option is to arrive after 1:30 on the weekend and there is less of a wait. Prices are reasonable but come to eat and share! You do have the opportunity to order mains off their menu if you would like. All the food tasted fresh and not overworked or overcooked. Service is quick - seems like there is a new batch of new servers and they seem more attentive than in the past - they do need a little more education on the dimsum served or offered, but we had a really pleasant experience. read more

EXCELLENT food and service!!! Saturday and Sunday they bring carts with Dim Sum around to each table. You are given a card and as you pick items off the cart they mark it on your card. Service is wonderful. The servers tell you what is on that particular cart. Different carts come out and go around the room. The service is fast and the food is wonderful and hot. I think coming with 3 or more people is perfect. That way you can pick more of a variety. Most food comes in 3s making sharing perfect. Menus are available if you ask for a menu, but we just picked from each cart that came by. They are very organized with the carts coming to every table and quickly. If you do not see something being offered that you know you really want. Please ask one of the servers. My friends have said this is the best Dim Sum. I have to say I love JV. I went out of my comfort zone and tried everything. I love most of it. I think the only thing I will not get again is the chickens feet, Oh just to let you know we got there 15 minutes before they opened at 12:00 and a line was already forming. I went to Jade Villa to use the giftcard we got. I called in an order for Flat rice noodles with shrimp instead of beef, calamari, sweet and sour chicken, egg rolls, and shrimp and chicken rolls. When i got there it was no customers inside and pretty quite. The young man at the counter was nice and helpful. My food was ready and i was on my way. The flat rice noodles come dry or wet. If you get them wet it comes with a sauce and toppings in a separate container. When i first looked i thought they only gave me noodles because i didn't know they came separate... Lol. I was ready to call them!! It came with a brown sauce, leeks, and shrimp. It was pretty good. With the calamari you can get it with tentacles, body, or mixed. I got mixed. The tentacles are delicious but i made a mistake getting the body because they were just to chewy!! Omg, lol. Lesson learned... But if that's your thing, blessings to you and your powerful jaws!!! Lol. The sweet n sour chicken was very good and it came with a yummy sauce. I really enjoyed the shrimp and chicken rolls, i tore them up before i even got home... They come with 2 in an order. Fast forward to a few weeks later, and it was announced that they were opening their doors again under new management and restaurant renovations. Upon finding that out, we decided to give it a try one more time. Ambiance: Jade Villa is much cleaner under the new management. The renovations made the restaurant brighter and less claustrophobic than before. Even with the recent renovations, you can still get the authentic Chinese restaurant vibe. Food: We ordered our usual Chinese food orders, which were Salt & Pepper Squid, Egg Drop Soup, Sweet & Sour Pork, Beef Wonton Soup, and Mongolian Beef. The flavors and authenticity are there. Nothing changed, and they are still delicious. I heard they are still offering dim sum carts on a specific day (or days?). I will be back soon for that. Price: Prices are reasonable, and the servings are huge. Foods are mostly a la carte and are about 2-3 servings. Service: Under the new management, Jade Villa is so much better. Their staff is very welcoming and pleasant. They will also give you suggestions and are open to answering restaurant questions. I highly recommend Jade Villa to all those who enjoy authentic Chinese food. For me, Jade Villa is more enjoyable if you are dining in, especially with dim sum carts available. I heard so much about Jade Villa. Everything was extremely positive but, one was they closed and were never coming back. But, they are under new ownership and they are here to stay. I stopped by one evening and they did not disappoint. They were fantastic. The location is perfect as well. Just outside all the hustle and bustle of the VA Beach area. After dining here I told my husband, "bedtime we are in the are, I have to bring you here." They have two menus. The red one is the authentic Chinese cuisine, and the white one um well.... As the only dim sum spot in the 757, Jade Villa suffers from a lack of competition to drive up the quality of its dim sum, or maybe they just don't have a renowned dim sum chef but the dim sum here is just not up to standard when compared to major cities with larger Chinese communities like NYC, LA, DC, etc. I do commend jade villa for bringing dim sum to a smaller market like the 757 and do recommend if you are new to dim sum to give it a try. The renovations have really improved the environment. Before renovations, they had a staffing problem but now they seem to have a good amount of staff and someone always willing to help. If I were to compare the food to northern Virginia's dim sum, I would have to say the rice crepe here falls apart more easily plus the sauce is not as flavorful and the shumai portion size is small. Met a friend and her mom here for lunch and waited in a long long line prior to their opening. After everyone had been seated from the line we still had to wait about 40 minutes but we were the second group on the list. We were able to sit in our car and the wait went by quickly. Totally worth the wait! Tons of variety, the crispy squid was my favorite! The carts come around frequently and the staff is very friendly and willing to show you/explain what each dish is. I took my mom here on Sunday, 9/25/22, after we learned they reopened. Originally, JV's management conveyed they were closing permanently due to lack of staffing, but I talked to a friend (who's been a JV employee for ages) and he told me that they were able to "get help." So, after that clarification, I was simply happy to have a chance at the dimsum carts again. If you know Jade, you know they rock the carts on weekends, and they're the only place locally that does so. The first (and obvious) thing we noticed is they made some renovations. The two-door entrance/exit is no more - past the double glass doors is one door on the left side. The right door is gone and that little lobby is now a waiting area. Once inside, there's a host stand, a couple of chairs for waiting, and a renovated interior. The carpet is gone, hard floors have replaced the carpet, new chairs, new paint, and a renovated bar/register. The place cleaned up nice and, although I was accustomed to the old look, a makeover is always good. Service is the same - for the a la carte days (Saturdays & Sundays), it's organized chaos. There isn't a host (as of 10/23/22, JV now has a host - yay!) and the servers are kinda running around doing everything. This is a sight that I've become accustomed to at JV - I don't think it's going to change until they have a full complement of staff. We waited about 20-30 minutes to be seated - and since there's no host you have to write your name and no. of people in your party on a sheet of paper JV leaves at the host stand. That route can be dicey, too - since the staff is running around doing the server thing, seating new parties tends to become secondary. What that means is a bunch of tables will remain empty after customers leave, then all those empty tables will be bussed, cleaned and finally sat all in the same timeframe. This is all heads-up details and actually not a complaint. This is what I prepare for when I come in for weekend a la carte service. The rest of the time, JV is kinda quiet, although there are typical rushes that will occur during dinner time. I'm elated JV is back. I love dimsum and they were the only restaurant locally that offered the a la carte service (they're honestly the only spot locally that offers such a wide variety of dimsum). Ok, so funny story, not funny, but kinda sorta...but let me tell you anyway. I went on a mini reunion trip back home to Montreal a couple of weeks ago (it had been 12 years). Before I Ieft for this trip, I, like everyone else was devastated to hear the news that Jade Villa (JV) was closing their doors after 20+ years in business. Ok, so full disclaimer, I had never been to JV, but I had heard that it was pretty much the only place to get legit dim sum around these parts unless I wanted to drive up north. I had been meaning to go, but one thing led to another and I never made it, so can you relate to my sadness...shoulda coulda woulda...So, on my trip to Montreal, I made sure that one of our meals was dim sum in Chinatown and stuffed my face with all the dim sum that I could eat, while softly sobbing that this could be my last dim sum in awhile. Well, a few days later, I come back to CoVA and come to find out, JV is back in business after 2 weeks of a major facelift under new ownership. I wasted no time this time and headed there this past weekend with my kids for Sunday dim sum to finally check this place out! They just reopened, so I think things are still evolving as they adapt. Some Yelpers have said that you can order dim sum a la carte from the menu only. At the time of our visit, they were rolling around a couple of carts and individual servers were coming out with platters that were freshly made. I'm assuming they brought the carts back for weekend service? Some of my go-to dim sum items that we tried are: Shrimp crepe - I love the sweet soy sauce that comes with it Stuffed eggplant with shrimp - love how the eggplant is so soft Stuffed tofu with shrimp - this is plain tofu with shrimp on top Har gow - the best! Fried shrimp balls - Might pass on this next, only item that we ordered that I don't usually order. I just ordered it because it was in the first cart Pork spareribs in black bean sauce - I love this one All the items were in line with most dim sum places I've had. I'm just thankful that we have a dim sum place at all in CoVa! The restaurant was pretty full at the time of our visit and they had 2 servers come around with carts. The staff was passing around items or if you were looking for some items in particular, you could ask and they would do their best to bring it to you from the kitchen. We didn't have any issues waiting for things to come around. We had plenty to eat while waiting for new items. For now, I am assuming they are starting out with the basics and although there was still a good variety, I feel like they could add a few more items. I was super disappointed to find out that they had sold out of egg custard tarts (noooooooooooooooo). They must have been busy, because they were sold out by 2pm at the time of our visit. Overall, I am so happy that JV was saved and that we still have a place to get dim sum here. I can't speak of the place before, but the renovations seems to have been a welcomed change and I noticed that there was a smaller section in the back for maybe more private gatherings? As like many on here, I was sad to learn Jade Villa was closing a while back. Then next thing I know I see that they are re-opening after renovations!! Praise Be!! But today I ordered a few items for lunch to curb my dim sum craving for now. I got the Treasure Sticky Rice, Steamed Spare ribs in Black Bean sauce and Deep Fried Fun Gor. Boy did I eat up all those ribs and Fun Gor and half of the Sticky rice in no time flat! Yummy to my tummy!! So there's a 40 minute wait. My dad's slightly hungry and am willing to wait to see if the food's worth the wait. Being a transplant from Northern VA with lots of dim sum restaurants, I was thrilled to find out Jade Villa is under new management, stayed open after COVID and that the food's good. If the long line is an indication of the food then that's the first thing you'll notice. It's 1:32pm on a Saturday and there's still a long wait. They have a receptionist who takes your name and number to call. You wonder if you can suggest for them to have a pager do you can wait in your car instead of having to stand in the reception area which only has 5 chairs! While leaving my name to be called, the smell of Cantonese dim sum permeates the air. Can't wait to order soy mai, ha Kao, Dan tat, lo bak co, Guk fa cha, etc etc (as you can see am ready to show off my gwong tong wa!) So pause here until we get to get seated and order! Back now - and the wait was worth it! Food fresh from the kitchen. Sesame balls were crispy and warm. Everything was so good. 5 stars for sure. Definitely like the shrimp crepe (ha Cheung), shrimp balls were of good size, everything was well seasoned. The first visit to Jade Villa tucked away at the end of a strip of stores. I've passed this restaurant for 1 yr as I picked up my grandson from daycare. I shop just across the street..I've still never seen this restaurant. Tonight celebrating ME, I was in the mood for authentic cuisine. The entrance of the restaurant appears closed, even with the OPEN sign on. There were 5 tables with diners, we were taken to our table with 6 plates. Very nice size, I of of course had a number of entrées I NEEDED to order. Our nice waitress took drink orders and gave us a moment to see the 2 menus. Chinese food and Cantonese style food. I was really happy to see the variety of various meats available. We all enjoyed and appreciated our meals. They were all enough to share between the 3 of us, with still enough to take home. I have to recommend the garlic rib tips that were well seasoned with delicious marinated garlic and fried. They were all pretty much bite size and just full of flavor..so yummy. My daughter had beef lo mein hubby surprised me and did not order General Tso chicken but ordered beef and broccoli. Each the beef were very tender and went well with their meals. We ordered crab ragoons that actually had nice crab filling and cream cheese. Fried in wonton wrappers. These were house made. If you have ever had these elsewhere and decided to open them, there is a strange square block of grey material inside. This kept me from eating then when I first saw this. I'd like to return to Jade to dine but in the back of my mind Im sure I was thr only one at my table to notice, was the owner who visited everyone's table, just 5 tables except ours. One of the doctors I work with always talks about how good the food is and authenticity made, so this is what prompted me to suggest it for my celebration. The owners simple act of not acknowledgment will probably keep me from returning. I'm not sure why we were omitted, but yeah, it was not a good expression of being welcome. We have been fans of Dim Sum for years, dining in restaurants in San Francisco and New York. We tried Dim Sum in several places in Virginia Beach but this place is by far the best. The storefront is rather unassuming and looks like a small place, but it extends very far back. All of the food was fresh and the portions were very generous. We are big fans of sticky rice and this was a large portion with deliciously marinated bits of sausage, pork, and chicken. A+. The fried shrimp balls were exquisite. We didn't care for an order of dumplings as the filling inside was cold and the outside was fried. The plate of spinach was so green and fresh and perfectly marinated. I even tried some marinated eggplant which was absolutely delicious. We were there on a Sunday 15 minutes after the noon opening and we had a 45 minute wait. It was well worth the wait. Considering the freshness of the food, kindness of the staff and the wide variety that is offered, a weekend visit for Dim Sum is high recommended. read more
