Spicy Chicken with onions & peppers
    J E.

I love stopping in to any restaurant that's part of Peter Chang's group of restaurants, whether it's a Peter Chang's, Ni Hao, Mam Changs, etc... That style of Chinese food is one of my favs. So, when visiting the area I came in for lunch on a Monday. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Getting there around 1PM they had several table sat, which I was surprised to see, yet very happy to see too! It meant that there are others who value really good, Authentic Chinese food and flavors[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. I started with their cucumbers and asked for them to be spicy. Once they arrived, I have to say I was disappointed as they were fresh, but there was hardly any flavor to them at all and the "sauce" in the bottom of the dish wasn't actually tossed in with the cucumbers, rather they were just sat on top and the flavors were on the bland side. They also just tossed a bunch of whole cilantro on top, rather than pulling the leaves and chopping those and mixing them in, which is how the dish should have been served. Next up was their egg drop soup... yeah, it's an American-Chinese item, but it's a fav of mine and it came with the lunch item I ordered, which is the only reason I got it. It tasted great! I could tasted the freshness of all ingredients in it, but the fried wonton pieces that came with it were beyond horribly stale - NASTY! Those should never be served! My local, Fredericksburg Peter Changs (before they recently closed down) served amazing, fresh fried noodles to accompany soup. This is a management/chef issue that needs to be corrected with this location!! Next was the spicy chicken with peppers and onions... They were good, but far from spicy and definitely was missing some umami flavor I'm used to in this dish, from when I get it at other locations. I also tried their beef with three peppers... It came out looking not very authentic, rather quite "American" as it was saucy and resembling the beef from beef & broccoli. Flavor was ok, but far from what I've had with this particular dish in the past, which was very disappointing. Overall - service was nice. The food was too Americanized, which I suspect was why I saw so many people in there. Reviews for any authentic (Pakistani, Chinese, etc) place are typically mid-low level as most who use these review/social media sites are clueless as to what the food is actually supposed to taste like. I'll give this place a 3, but for authenticity it deserves a 2. Would I return, nope, there are too many places to try in the VA Beach area.

How I have I never been to a Peter Changs is beyond me. I am glad I finally did visit. Not going to lie, this was the most convenient thing next to Walgreens and I was STARVING! But I am glad I did check it out. I ordered a lunch special to go and checked out the restaurant while I waited. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is very big inside and they have a full bar. It's great for larger parties and they have lazy susans on a lot of the tables.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I love that. I think they need a bigger fish tank....those fish were huge!!! [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's very clean inside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] And the staff was very friendly!! I ordered the beef and onions and it came with a spring roll, rice and soup. It was delicious. Lots of onions and the beef was perfectly cooked and tender. The rice was also perfectly cooked. This is not your average chinese restaurant. They have different items that you don't normally see. There were definitely some things I would like to go back and try like the dumplings and Dan Dan noodles and the Bang Bang shrimp and the lettuce wraps. :) For those looking for traditional chinese dishes they have those too.

Today's order: pork bao appetizer, braised fish in spicy sauce, beef flat noodles and (to go) tea smoked duck. Been a while since we were here, and pleased to see that place is still very nice. Everything looks clean and upscale. Staff was pleasant and accommodating. Fish was nicely spiced (I often have to request extra, but this was on point! Definitely recommend!

Loved how cute and tasty this restaurant was. The service was fast and they were kind. The portions are amazing I love that I had leftovers to take home. Husband and I ordered and then used the extra plates to share. The lomein and fried rice were delicious. Just one star off because it was a bit greasy for my liking. Not too greasy but just more than I'd like. I definitely want to return.

Holy Wuhan this stuff is good. When I get Chinese I'm looking for sauced up crunchy chicken bites with white rice and that's exactly what I got!

I've only been to the Chesapeake location, and I love their food, so this was my first time trying the food at the VB location. I was quickly greeted as soon as I walked in and was seated right away. I loved the clean and modern decor of the restaurant. My server was super friendly and brought over the menu. I knew I wanted the Wonton in Hot Chili Oil but I also wanted to try the Dan-Dan Noodles here, because I wasn't a fan of them at the other location, so I ordered both of those along with Salt & Peppered Prawns. The food was served fairly quickly. I started with the Wontons but there was something in the chili oil that made my mouth extremely tingly and numb. I normally get a slight tingly feeling when I eat them but this was intense. I couldn't even finish it. The Dan-Dan Noodles were incredible though! They had the perfect amount of flavor and spice. The Salt & Peppered Prawns were good, but I probably won't order them again. The flavors were great but the seasoning is only on the shells. I found myself rubbing the de-shelled shrimp on the seasoned shells to give them some flavor. I did attempt to eat them with the shells on but I wasn't a fan. You really can't go wrong at Judy's! The staff were incredible and the food is good!!! I still prefer the Chesapeake location but I'm glad I was able to stop in and try the food out at this location as well.

The onions added a nice flavor to the beef, and the chili oil on the table paired really well with it.
