The last experience we had was absolutely amazing. From the service to the food. All around great experience. This time, not so much. My family and I (5 people) came in to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday dinner and there was nobody but us in the restaurant. The first thing I noticed was the server. He was dressed in jeans, hooded sweatshirt, a beanie and had a toothpick in his mouth. A bit out of the ordinary but to each their own for proper attire in what I would deem a upscale-ish restaurant. The real issue was him taking our order, seemed rushed. As we were deliberating and figuring out what we wanted. My girlfriend was talking about the scallion bubble pancakes. He came over and said, "I overheard you said the scallion pancakes, did you want to put in that order?" My girlfriend said no, she wanted everything to come out all at once. He said ok and then we walked off. Next thing we know, the pancakes came out WAY ahead of everything else we ordered. By like 15 minutes at least. When my girlfriend said something about it, the waiter said, he said outright " I never heard her say not to order them, she never said anything, and they are out right now". No apology, no I'll go ahead and fix that...nothing. When we we on the way out, we talked to the owner about the experience and the only thing he mentioned was that, the server was new and it's hard to find good employees because they revolve so quickly. Which wasn't really an answer at all. It was definitely a 180 degree turn from the first experience we had here which was 5 stars all around. Honestly this was some of the worst Chinese food I have ever had!! The lunch special was served in a metal bento box for starters and the food was not good at all!! Huge disappointment!! Peter Chang was always my go to for authentic Chinese. The food was always fresh and delicious. What has happened?!?! We placed an order for the office today and the food was just terrible. As soon as I opened my dan dan noodles - which in the past had been perfection - I could smell the odor of stale rice noodles. I took one bite and decided to toss the rest in the trash. The deep fried wontons that came with the soup were stale. The soup broth tasted like it came out of a jar of bad powdered bouillon. The fortune cookies were stale. If I'd wanted bad Chinese take out, I could have spent a lot less money and gone elsewhere. Shame on you, Peter Chang. I love stopping in to any restaurant that's part of Peter Chang's group of restaurants, whether it's a Peter Chang's, Ni Hao, Mam Changs, etc... That style of Chinese food is one of my favs. So, when visiting the area I came in for lunch on a Monday. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Getting there around 1PM they had several table sat, which I was surprised to see, yet very happy to see too! It meant that there are others who value really good, Authentic Chinese food and flavors[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. I started with their cucumbers and asked for them to be spicy. Once they arrived, I have to say I was disappointed as they were fresh, but there was hardly any flavor to them at all and the "sauce" in the bottom of the dish wasn't actually tossed in with the cucumbers, rather they were just sat on top and the flavors were on the bland side. They also just tossed a bunch of whole cilantro on top, rather than pulling the leaves and chopping those and mixing them in, which is how the dish should have been served. Next up was their egg drop soup... yeah, it's an American-Chinese item, but it's a fav of mine and it came with the lunch item I ordered, which is the only reason I got it. It tasted great! I could tasted the freshness of all ingredients in it, but the fried wonton pieces that came with it were beyond horribly stale - NASTY! Those should never be served! My local, Fredericksburg Peter Changs (before they recently closed down) served amazing, fresh fried noodles to accompany soup. This is a management/chef issue that needs to be corrected with this location!! Next was the spicy chicken with peppers and onions... They were good, but far from spicy and definitely was missing some umami flavor I'm used to in this dish, from when I get it at other locations. I also tried their beef with three peppers... It came out looking not very authentic, rather quite "American" as it was saucy and resembling the beef from beef & broccoli. Flavor was ok, but far from what I've had with this particular dish in the past, which was very disappointing. Overall - service was nice. The food was too Americanized, which I suspect was why I saw so many people in there. Reviews for any authentic (Pakistani, Chinese, etc) place are typically mid-low level as most who use these review/social media sites are clueless as to what the food is actually supposed to taste like. I'll give this place a 3, but for authenticity it deserves a 2. Would I return, nope, there are too many places to try in the VA Beach area. read more

Ther service was ok the manager listened to the feedback from my mom. I havent writen a review since 2014 but its time to update i have been to it since than but this was for a birthday family get together. The red snapper sweet and sour sauce was great and delicious. Plenty of meat. The soup was thick and not what i was used to. It has less seafood in it. The cold cucumber salad was crunchy and tasty. the something beef was good the squid or fish was not enough. There was 10 at a table and only gave about 6? These are supposed tbe banquet food but its so not a lot. We had party of 5 tables. The hot pot with sauce i am not sure what it was but that was good as well The eggrolls we had 10 it was not enough me and my brother and my aunt had halves all three was half piece. The garlic and pepper shrimp didnt have enough garlic and pepper but the shrim was tasty. The scallion i haven't had that for a long time it was ok to me. pan stirred fried noodles we got egg noodles with it but i think there was not enough noodles i only got one fork in my mouth. Tofu skin or something with bokchoy i dont know why my cousin ordered that The other table ordered Braise beef noodle soup took some out of the bowl and into his own and didnt eat the rest so our table took it and i took that home to eat the broth was tomato with flaovr good flavor. How I have I never been to a Peter Changs is beyond me. I am glad I finally did visit. Not going to lie, this was the most convenient thing next to Walgreens and I was STARVING! But I am glad I did check it out. I ordered a lunch special to go and checked out the restaurant while I waited. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is very big inside and they have a full bar. It's great for larger parties and they have lazy susans on a lot of the tables.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I love that. I think they need a bigger fish tank....those fish were huge!!! I believe that there is a big difference between a Chinese Restaurant and Chinese takeout. Unfortunately, Peter Chang has crossed over the rubicon into Chinese takeout territory. This was once a very popular place where you could enjoy a fantastic meal. Now, it is little more than a fancy Chinese takeout restaurant, in terms of food quality. Their prices do not reflect that massive change as they charge upscale prices for mediocre quality food. I chose to spend my money elsewhere. read more

For me, they have the best Lo mein in town. Their scallion bubble pancakes with that curry dipping sauce,the spicy beef and the general tsos chicken are some of our fave dishes among others. Servers are attentive. The location has lots of parking and convenient. read more

First Main course for only 3 of us arrived without the rice in 15 min, the rice was brought over an hour later. The last meal was brought 1 and 1/2 hours after the first. The other 2 were brought about an hour after the first. During the entire 2 hours meals for takeout customers continued to go out the door. Complained and the manager did NOTHING. read more

While this was a great time saver, the lack of picture showing the products was a negative to me as every place doesn't cook items the same so a picture reference would have been nice. The actual inside of the place is inviting. LED lights and dim lighting, big tables that seat parties of 10 or more with spinning capabilities to promote sharing of food. The wait time was minor as well. Now, the food was just okay, the general was the best, I also got a six piece salt and pepper chicken which was just okay at best. The most disappointing item had to be the fried rice. It was bland and unappealing. Truly made the entire meal experience one that I would not want to have again. We decided to dine in we sat in a booth and we were given menus it was not many people & it was also cozy. Our server I must say was very nice and attentive she informed us about menu options because if you do visit this place the menu is huge! She even gave us suggestions which we appreciated. The portions are large many of them are good for two or more people. For drinks we all got soft drinks however they did have cocktails and dessert available. For appetizer we ordered the fish rolls which were amazing I mean I could have eaten 2 orders on my own but I had to save my appetite for the entree. We also ordered spicy shrimp and it was really good not spicy as I like but it was really good and the sauce was amazing I actually ate it with the fish rolls. For entree my brother got this chicken with onions and peppers it looked really good and he got fried rice on the side, my daughter got the shrimp lo mein which was very tasty and they give a large amount we all were about to have some and take the rest home. For myself I got Shimp with onions and peppers and spicy sauce it was a good spice and had good flavor overall. I went here for lunch today. I ordered the lunch special. 9.99 for pick 3 with white or veggie fried rice. I got Kung pao chicken, general tso chicken, and bang bang shrimp with veggie fried rice. The food was cold. It was served in a metal pan. I told the waitress that the food was cold and she looked at me like what do you want me to do? She then asked what I wanted her to do and if I wanted her to warm it up for me? She seemed unsure as to how to even go about warming it up. I told her just to box it up to go and I'd eat it later at home. She was very happy to do that. I gave them three stars instead of one because the food is actually good. However, I am at a loss as to why the food was cold. I will return to the restaurant. Next time I'll order from the regular menu and not the lunch special. It is apparent that the food on the lunch special is pre-made and placed in warming pans that wasn't maintaining a hot temperature for the food. read more

The manager is so patient, kind and accommodating. The party number changed several times, which resulted in me updating him numerous times over the phone. However, he verbalized much appreciation for notifying him. It's always courteous, to update businesses of any changes so they can plan for staff accordingly etc. We celebrated my brother's birthday and were able to be seated away from the crowd. We consulted with the manager prior if it was permit-able to bring cupcakes to the restaurant, which we were allowed. Just confirm prior to doing so. Their food is always so consistently delicious and flavorful. Entrees are family style, but sometimes we just stick to eating the dish we ordered specifically. It's definitely plentiful! The large lazy Susan in the middle table makes sharing more convenient! For some reason, three of us ended up ordering the same dish of two different dishes. We definitely could have split it among us. But we didn't. I had the seafood pot, which had a generous amount of seafood, flounder, shrimp, scallops and some calamari mixed with vegetables and lots of mushrooms! It is spicy, but they can adjust the level of spice accordingly. I had mild but it still brought on the heat. I couldn't finish it all, so I had leftovers that lasted me 3 days and it still tasted good. It is served in an actual stone pot. The scallion bubble pancakes are always a yes for us! They are huge buttery, crispy but soft bread that is thin and hollow. The ones that night were massive than usual!! There were 3 orders of bubble scallion pancakes at our table it looked like a field of puffy pancakes at our table. They come in sets of 2 accompanied with sauce. Others at our table ordered golden mountain chicken which is my husband's favorite dish. Another ordered orange chicken, beef and crispy pork belly. You really can't go wrong with any of the dishes. Chinese food is one of my favorite cuisines and we just can't seem to find a place that really hits the mark. We placed our order online and according to the website, had about a 20-30 minute wait with a 5:30pm pick-up time. Great! We arrived at the restaurant right on time to pick up our food and waited for an additional 35 minutes, until after 6:00pm. Weirdly, the restaurant was not busy at all, with just a few small parties inside. There were quite a few other people waiting for their food, some who had been there longer than we had. Right as we got our order, we could hear grumbling from other upset customers. We got back to the house to enjoy our meals and realized that even after a very long wait, almost none of our food was hot. The ONLY dish that was still on the hot side, was the hot and sour soup, which I will say, was delicious. Only $2.99 for a cup and very flavorful. I would definitely get that again. Our other favorite was the pork dumpling appetizer. We got two orders and demolished both quickly. For entrees, we got the orange chicken, sesame chicken and sliced beef with Chang sauce. All three entrees were okay, but not exciting. The beef was the favorite of the three. The sesame chicken seemed to be an accidental orange chicken with sesames sprinkled on top. I came here with friends from out of town, looking for something for everyone. Here I found it!! friends loved their meals.. Hubby ordered 2 1 for the table to taste. Were family so family style dining was welcomed. The flounder with black beans , i wanted more black beans in my dish thst i didnt get, sadly but the meal was delicious and fresh. Our waitress was very friendly and made suggestions and was very patient as we asked questions. Only wish the table was not so sticky, it took her a few minutes to clean as our spring rolls were and bubble pancakes got cold. All in all food was hot and full of flavor.
