Quality was great for years but it's gotten pretty bad over last couple years. You expect an egg roll to have a sizeable filling ...they have next to none so the interior is mushy dough. We have given them business for years but today's meal was bad enough to throw in the trash....the meat was as if it was a meat substitute ..had a semi rubbery texture and looked weird. So we were out finishing up some last-minute Christmas shopping and my wife remembered that she really liked the pancit from this particular restaurant. So we drove halfway across town from Lynnhaven mall to get Chinese food to go. 1st of all, this is located in probably one of the sketchest shopping centers in town. So we got there and placed our order, and of course, she did not order the pancit. I ordered the curry chicken, and this was about the best thing we had. They definitely know how to bring the heat in the correct way with the curry. Unfortunately, like most restaurants, I give them a second chance, but this time is going to be the exception. Well I was in the area visiting the beauty supply store and I figured, since I have started back on my journey to better health and eating habits... Oh hey Chinese!! You may be thinking, this is not healthy, well in my mind, back in the day it worked for me. While it definitely depends on what you order, it is also equally important to know how the food is prepared. Well why you may never know how it's prepared of what they are using... it's safe to order veggies. A small broccoli with garlic sauce please to go. I placed my order and it was ready for pick up in about 10 minutes. The young lady that took my order was ready ... they are usually on point when it comes to service. I was expecting my meal to be in a plastic tray of some sort, but nope... I guess it was more convenient to pack the cute Chinese take out boxes. The portion size was plenty for me. This entree is marked as 'spicy' but it's not spicy IMO. While this isn't my favorite spot, I will be back if I am in the area. Have fun and enjoy life :) read more

Food was just ok. I had the Singapore pancit. A little kick with a lot of salt. Be cautious if you need to cut back on sodium. This is not the dish for you. Also had the teriyaki and it was over cooked and kind of dry. I have had better food from here in the past. read more

This is my new favorite go-to Chinese restaurant! The building looks ghetto and sketchy, but inside is relatively clean if not aesthetically pleasing by any means. But their food! Yum! My favorites, so far, are the lo mein, crab Rangoon, and bourbon chicken. My friend and I agree that those three things are incredibly delicious! Their fried rice is just ok, and their need & broccoli is less than mediocre, but I will ALWAYS go back for my three favorites! read more

I had the fried chicken plate and the general tso's chicken plate. Both were very good. This place is great. Very fast and very friendly service. And very low priced. They have a great mix of traditional dishes as well as Americanized fast dishes. Whatever your in the mood for, they have something you'll like. This place was packed with people and I can see why. Everyone was ordering the fried chicken which is cooked perfectly. Juicy on the inside and crunchy on the outside. You must eat this chicken fresh. If you love Chinese-style fried chicken or any fried chicken for that matter, you have to try this place. There aren't very many reviews but this place was packed. QUICK REVIEW! INTRO: New China is a Chinese takeout restaurant off of Indian River Rd just before you get to the bridge that takes you to the old Ford Plant and Norfolk. It's a perfectly decent place to get Chinese takeout. THE GOOD: This is American style Chinese takeout. No more, no less. Some Chinese places these days will try to mix it up a little and add some Thai and other more exotic Asian stuff to their menus, but New China is not one of them. They stick to your classic American Chinese restaurant fare, and they do it pretty well. I've eaten here several times after recently starting a new job nearby, and so far I've been pretty satisfied with what I've ordered. I wasn't blown away, but I wasn't disappointed either. This place is pretty average, but that's OK IMO. They're pretty fast. I'm about 10 minutes away from them, and they've always had the food ready by the time I got there to pick it up. They use metal containers, which some people prefer over plastic. THE NOT AS GOOD: I don't have too much to say here. I really haven't had any problems here. Again, this place will probably not blow you away, but you should walk away satisfied. OVERALL: This a perfectly decent place to get Chinese food in this part of town. Well when I went to this place it was rated 5 stars and let me tell you this is not the case. Customer service was fine and The place itself is in a strip mall and nothing to look at but I found gems in places like this. The Food was hot and fresh but the quality of the food was significantly sub par. I ordered general to chicken and they used really cheap meat and cuts I mean there was tendons in the meat absolutely disgusting. The crab ragoon has little to no crab and was overly sweet which was just gross. The sweet and sour chicken my wife and daughter got was okay from what they said and the fried rice was decent. The eggrolls on the other hand were atrocious they were overly greasy and the stuff inside was mushy and peppery. It was the first time I seen my wife bite into an enroll and spit it out. The food here is terrible and I mean terrible, so it's safe to say I will not be returning and I would highly recommend anyone wanting Chinese to avoid this place at all costs. read more

I've been coming here for years and I can honestly say that I've never been disappointed. They have a killer lunch special from 10:30am-4:30pm. You can get a generous sized plate full of General Tso chicken(or whatever else you decide to order) and a soda for like $5. They're also always open too! Including holidays! Today I ordered some BONELESS spare ribs at this New China restaurant over the phone (as a fairly frequent customer). The cashier who barely spoke English confirmed my order several times as I told her I wanted to order "BONELESS" ribs. When I went to pick up my order though, a man who was picking up his order seemed to have ordered a similar item, BBQ spare ribs (with the bone-in). As he left and then I paid for and picked up my order, I headed home and drove all the way across town. When I opened up my meal, I discovered that they had given me the wrong order (probably the man's order) and mixed up what we had, not to mention it was a lot less quantiy that I had ordered for the boneless ribs. I called them to let them know about the mistake they made and the cashier tried to deny it by saying I had ordered "BBQ Spare Ribs" with the bone-in when I had already confirmed with her 2-3 times when I ordered, BONELESS. I asked her if I could get a credit on my next order for the mistake she knows she made. She asked if I had eaten it yet, I said no but that I was out of the area. She said I would have to bring back in the food to get the credit as if she was going to resell it to give me a credit without even an exchange or anything. Not only was that disgusting but very inconsiderate and cheap as it showed me they care nothing about their customers and would even resell old food to others to save money for themselves. I told her nevermind and that I would not be ordering from them again. DO NOT EAT HERE! They recycle food, they are rude, and nasty and care nothing about their customers and their food is not all that! I love this place! I don't go here for service, I come for the food! The quality of their take out is above par -not like Peter Chang, but not like a hole in the wall place either. Their General Tso chicken is always crispy and fresh, their lomein is always light and fresh tasting with plenty of flavor. Not to mention their lunch specials are a bargain! read more
