I was hungry and it was getting late... what to do you might ask, order takeout of course at China 1! I placed my order online and it was waiting for me when I arrived. I like the Hot and Spicy Chicken Wings served with Chicken Fried Rice. I also got an order of Spring Rolls and a small Hot and Sour Soup! Everything was piping hot and delicious. The prices are reasonable for the quality and quantity of the food offered. As an added bonus, China 1 is very close to my home! read more

I just ordered chicken wings and fried rice. The wings tasted like day old chicken. They were not good at all. The rice tasted horrible. I will never order from them again. Maybe I went at the wrong time or something. read more

Wanted breakfast but all the restaurants and diners had over an hour wait -Chinese food, yup sounds great. China 1 had an extensive menu and combo plates. They specialize in Huan and Szechuan dishes. The Kung Po Chicken was plentiful and delicious, could have used more chile, the combination comes with rice for $7.95. Their lunch specials are $5.25 and they have over 20 plates from chow mein or lo mein, beef or chicken broccoli, kung po chicken, shrimp with lobster sauce, cashew chicken, sesame chicken, General Tao's chicken and much more. Sesame chicken is plentiful, we also had the egg rolls. Everything was delicious read more

I was looking for a Chinese spot that'd be open past 9 PM on a Sunday and that lead me to China 1. My food was nice and hot and the wings were extra crispy. I ordered pickup and food was done within 10 minutes. The man who took my order was friendly. read more

As good as it was when I wrote my 1st review 7 years ago! This is our go-to when we're in the mood for Chinese. I love how they first remodeled for Covid - installing plexiglass and using a small fridge with the back removed to transfer orders to the guests. Brilliant! They still have, in my opinion, the safest set up for any restaurant that is dedicated to doing mostly takeout. The portions are huge! Whenever we get a pint entree, we inevitably pour it onto a plate and wonder how on earth they fit it all in. I still regularly get steamed chicken or shrimp with their scrumptious garlic sauce. Hubby loves the general tso chicken, sesame chicken, orange chicken (sense a theme yet?) or beef and broccoli (threw ya a curve ball there). It's never more than 15 minutes wait, regardless of how many people seem to be waiting for orders. They need to change absolutely nothing to keep me returning! read more

I ordered sweet and sour pork along with other combinations. They forgot to include the red sauce in the take out order. Had to drive an additional 20 minutes round trip to get the sauce. Also, the fortune cookies were stale. read more

This was my first time here and I ordered takeout. Beef with mixed vegetables and white rice. They were very prompt and had my order together in less than 10 minutes. They eagerly accommodated my request for no mushrooms. Their location was easy to get to, and my food tasted delicious! The beef was not fatty like I have sometimes experienced at Asian places. They were priced pretty reasonably too. (Be sure to grab condiments and ask for chopsticks though- my order was bagged and didn't have anything but food in it.) I will definitely be back! Seems like a great go-to for takeout. read more

Where to start... crab Rangoon was greasy and undercooked. The pork egg roll was doughy and undercooked. The boneless spare ribs were tough and chewy. The fried rice was good. Not likely to order from here again. read more

Great food at a great price. They are always quick and the food is good. Our family's go to for Chinese food

Review from Wife 5yrs ago Wow! We really loved this place! The family that owned it were the best. I don't know if it changed recently or how long ago the ownership has changed, but the food has definitely changed. The quality is not the same. I moved from Chesapeake to Virginia Beach some years back so I didn't get there as often as I would when I lived in Chesapeake. However, I would take trips just to go get the egg foo young because they had the best around I've given this new ownership I guess three chances but it does not taste the same as it was when the previous owners were there. Each time I've been there I'm looking for the old owners so that I could say hi. We even remember when they had their last child and when our 1st daughter was born the wife used to always ask, was she part Chinese or did she have a Chinese mix in her. She even gave my daughter a dress from China because she thought she was part Chinese. Our daughter is now going on 16yrs old, so that is how long we've been eating there. It was so disappointing getting one of my usuals, fried chicken wings and rice with the egg foo young gravy and it tasted horrible to say the least. So I will not be patronizing them anymore unless the old ownership comes back. Please let me know if any other old-time customers have noticed a change. The quality is just not the same. read more

First time ordering from here. With all the positive reviews I was pretty hopeful. We ordered the sweet-and-sour chicken which wasn't too bad.. a lot of really tiny pieces but the taste was OK. The eggrolls tasted a little off. Tried the teriyaki chicken. Not all of it was cooked through. We got the Pu pu platter. I loved the shrimp that came with it. Was so good! It was my first time trying shrimp toast... I was so excited!! Unfortunately, as you can see by the pictures I could not eat it because it was completely raw!! So I had to toss that and the teriyaki chicken. My husband really loved the ribs that came with the platter. The bourbon chicken was OK. I think it looks better than it tasted. The chicken was really dry it wasn't moist. My husband said the fried rice was good. Overall, I wasn't super pleased but willing to give it one more try. Maybe they were just having a off day. They were really busy when we went. read more

Hands down the best Chinese place in Hampton Roads. Clean, fresh food cooked perfectly. The customer service is amazing. The only thing is they need to upgrade the soda fountain. I will be returning read more

For fast food Chinese, this place gets 4 big stars. I stopped by to paint pottery across the lot, and the line at the brunch place was too long. This place had just opened for the day and I found a great table to eat at and watch TV. They have a nice, big fish tank, if you want to watch that instead. I found the food quality was excellent and it arrived fast. Nothing was oily or greasy. The restaurant was mostly clean, the soda fountain had a syrup drip of snot coming off the Dr. Pepper though. Staff was efficient but not overly friendly, I'm OK with that. I'll be back for the solid food offerings. read more

Nope go across street - food flavor is not worth the money when there's a better one in the next shopping center.

The sitting down restaurant part of this establishment is very clean with a very calm and nice atmosphere. The staff is very kind and efficient. The food though, the food is immaculate. My favorite thing is the Crab Rangoon's. I love Rangoon's and have had them countless times in countless restaurants, but China 1's is the best I've ever had. Fast amazing food, kind efficient staff, and clean peaceful environment. Best chinese restaurant in Chesapeake read more

Best bourbon chicken I have ever had. It's good real chicken and not fatty. I will definitely order this again. Wish the fried rice had some veggies in it. Wonton egg drop soup is good too. My son got the general tsos and he really likes it. This is the best Chinese place I've found in quite some time! read more

Have been here many times...10 or so times. Overall the food is very good. Always get the chicken fried rice, general Tsao chicken and they have been consistently good. My favorite is the special house low mein. They add a generous amount of shrimp, beef, etc to this dish. They pack all their serving containers full to the brim...great value. Appetizer spring rolls are always great. Call ahead as waiting in line to order can take a very long time. They will always answer the phone to the detriment of the customers actually waiting in the store. Call ahead and your order will be ready when you get there...never had to wait when I call in the order. read more

Tried to order food to pick up. I'm placing my order and had to look at the menu for one thing as it was a semi large order and didn't want to get it wrong. The guy on the phone says "I have other people waiting so you can call back." It hadn't even been a minute of me looking through the menu to place my order. So obviously I didn't call back. Then the guy calls me back a few minutes later and when I answer he doesn't say hello or anything just starts off with my old order and says anything else? I told him I was trying to place an order earlier but you were obviously too busy to give me your time. He did not apologize just said okay so what else? Why would I give my money to a company who can't even give the people keeping them in business 5 minutes of their time? No thanks. Unprofessional read more

Ordered online through the Yelp app and my order was ready as soon as I arrived. It stated that it would be ready in 30 minutes but it was ready in 10. Fried rice was good and chicken wings were good. The shrimp toast was terrible (see pic). They gave me deep fried squares of white bread. HEAVY OIL and no shrimp or anything that resembled shrimp toast that I've had in the 15 Years+ of eating it. The obviously didn't have any so decided to pull the wool over my eyes with fried squares of bread and charged me anyways. I didn't notice until I got home. Will go back, but I suggest checking everything before you leave the restaurant. read more

Have been going here for many years. Always delicious! Pork fried rice is amazing. For vegetarians the chop suey is a favorite.

oh my gosh. I ordered a small smoke and when I tell you it was AMAZING!!!!! Can't wait to finish my leftovers lol

By far the best Chinese food place in town! Loved the chicken and rice. Great for kids too, lots of options.

Best Chinese food around. Solid menu options and always great tasting and consistent. Decently priced also.

We were starving, we love Chinese food, I've delivered for them so many times and so I thought it'd been worth it. It wasn't, we ordered chicken and broccoli and general's Tso's chicken..... we ended up throwing almost all of it away. Maybe the chef wasn't feeling it today but we definitely weren't feeling it, not the egg roll, not the chicken wings. We're New Yorkers and we don't mean to be disrespectful, just leaving an honest review. We won't be ordering from there in the future. read more

They are definitely doing their best to stay COVID safe with their glass setup which I was very impressed with when I entered to pickup my order. I was craving spare ribs tips but the bourbon chicken looked like it and it tasted it just like it since they must use the same seasoning. The chicken was a little tough but addible, I devoured it, lol. Definitely will order from them again. read more

The food wasn't very good. :( It was very greasy and I saw them reusing oil in the back!! But they are a small biz, and are trying! The service wasn't the best as the lady who took my order was rather impatient. It was not like Chinese food that I have had in the past! But then again, what do you expect from cheap Chinese food? read more

I wanted to get some food on Easter Sunday and since most places were closed I figured I'd go ahead and get me some Chinese food. China 1 is right down the road from me so I went ahead and went over to get some takeout. The place is really unusually clean for a Chinese place (see my pictures) so that's a definite plus. The girl waiting on me was semi-friendly but not anything special. I got a couple of egg rolls, some Pork Lo Mein w fried rice on the side and an order of Hot and Sour soup. The Lo Mein was pretty good, nothing great, nothing bad either. The rice was pretty typical as well. The Hot and Sour soup was a nice change of pace, it was more hot than any other hot and sour soup I've ever tasted. The picture I posted makes it look hot, well because it is. If you don't like hot food then skip this soup. The egg rolls were pretty good but a bit overcooked I think. All in all this place is pretty decent. If you're looking for a nice place to eat-in for lunch this would be a pretty good place to go as the inside is pretty nice and they have a fish tank to boot. read more

This place has my favorite crab wonton/Rangoon's of any Chinese place I've been to in Virginia so far!!

Dead roach in the corner of the restaurant and then a live one crawled out right after we saw the dead one. My mom got her refund. I can say the food is good, but cleanliness and seeing that roach just turned us off. read more

Unforetunately, I had the bad fortune of being sick directly after eating this food. While I am not necessarily letting that contribute to the review, that experience will color it. My wife and I ordered the three dishes: moo shu pork, Szechuan chicken and fried scallops. I have never ordered the scallops anywhere before and probably won't ever order them again. Chewy, cold in the center, but a nice sweet taste. The pancakes for the moo shu were more like paper napkins than rice paper roles. The one good piece was the Szechuan chicken, the vegetables were fairly fresh and there was a good variety. I would say that perhaps their food is hit or miss. If you are in a hurry, they are very speedy for a neighborhood Chinese takeout. Happy eating! read more

Used to be the best Chinese food around...went out of my way to take out. Tonight, the house fried rice tasted way off. The fried pork dumplings were like meatballs that kept falling out of the dumpling, and there was a big piece of paper inside my egg roll. I won't go back, even though it's been my go-to place for years. Did they sell? Get a new supplier? Start using pre-made food? I have no idea, but I literally ate 4 dumplings, one bite of my fried rice and actually spit out my egg roll and found the paper, so, uh, nope. Never going back. xyfRew-tapvud-nudty1 read more
