Yum! The selection is great and I love that I can get cookies, ice cream, hot cocoa...it was all good (& I know because I got it all). I just wish the staff told me they had no whipped cream before I ordered as I would have skipped the hot cocoa because duh--that's just a vehicle for the whipped!
I've admittedly only had FoMu once, and at Boston Calling, so can't comment on the ambience or full menu. The service was great though, and the prices seemed reasonable at least comparatively to other vendors at the festival. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy the ice cream whatsoever. The coconut taste here was too overpowering to really be able to focus on anything else. I think the mint may have been a particularly bad combination with it but am not sure. Would I come back? If I were super hungry and a friend wanted to go, maybe. Intentionally if I had other options? Likely not.
They have such creative flavors to enjoy for those who are seeking milk alternative desserts. The person at the counter was super nice and let me try as many flavors as needed to help me make my decision. The store is really big, good for a group hangout or maybe even a small event. Would come back to try other flavors. I got the PB cookie ice cream, it tastes the least like coconut milk (which I don't mind, but fyi) but I would have also gotten their seasonal chai flavor.
My black raspberry chunk ice cream was fantastic! I was in disbelief that it was it was vegan because it was sooooo creamy and delicious. Their little wooden spoons are such a nice touch as well. The employee scooping out ice cream was so nice as well. Will definitely be coming back for more!

Whoa! I cannot be any happier with our stop here. I've reached the peak of great choices and hospitality. We had some lovely people helping us out, able to find some good seats to bathe ourselves in great Boston ice cream. CHEERS to them !

This is a plant based icecream shop so most of the bases are coconut milk. It's very delicious, creamy, and healthy servings. This was the mini and it was a sweet treat after a meal down the street! You can bring your dogs or other common pets here!
Tasty treats that's very allergen friendly. All plant-based and their mix-ins are also gluten free. Quite enjoyed my split scoop of Peanut Butter Chocolate Cookie and Fresh Strawberry. Not overly sweet and I rather enjoyed the meltier texture (but that's probably just me). They got really fun flavors, would really have liked to try the Salted Oatmeal Cookie but they don't do that anymore. Plenty of seats inside, very clean and modern design.
There's not a places that have vegan icecream. Especially a place that is fully vegan! It's a heaven for anyone trying be vegan and struggling to cut out icecream. There's a wide variety of flavors and mix ins which makes the decision process extremely hard. We ended up getting the mint chocolate chip icecream. even for the smallest size, they give you a heaping amount. This icecream doesn't taste too coconutty as do many other vegan ice creams. The mint flavor isn't artificial and has a fresh after taste.
Yummy spot with vegan ice cream! Didn't know this was vegan until after asking for samples, but you would never know! Flavors change regularly--I ended up with a Lemon Meringue Pie and Earl Grey mix. Both flavors had chunks of crust in them which made it veryyyyy delicious. I got a cookie on the side, but you can have a staff member make a cookie sandwich fresh or you can grab frozen ones from the freezer. Select flavors are also available from their freezer in pint sizes. There was only one staff member at the time that I came in (later at night), but she was very helpful and encouraged me to sample which is never a bad thing!! Would recommend. read more

After hearing about all the hype, I went to FoMu on Tuesday, to take advantage of taco Tuesday. On Tuesdays, you can get their homemade ice cream tacos. It is large, delicious, and will make you forget all about those choco tacos that you ate when you were young. As for their usual items, they have extensive menu of flavors of ice cream that you won't see at a grocery store ice cream section or even at most ice cream shops. Avocado and Banoffee Pie caught my eyes and we ended up trying Banoffee Pie, which tasted even better than it sounded. If you have been debating on whether or not you should try FoMu, but have been skeptical about alternative/vegan ice cream, you should definitely try it out. I was hesitant at first too, but now I'm a believer in vegan ice cream from FoMu. read more
I never thought I'd be into vegan anything, but ice cream made with coconut milk is surprisingly delicious. But only if you like a subtle hint of coconut flavor in addition to whatever ice cream flavor you choose. My coworker and I came in for dessert, and we sampled a few flavors first: -Banoffee Pie (Banana Toffee Ice Cream, Graham Cracker, Dark Chocolate Chips): I thought I would love this but the flavors of the banana and toffee didn't quite work for me in this format. -Peanut Butter Mud Pie (Peanut Butter Ice Cream, Fudge, Chocolate Cake): Pretty good, but a little too dense for me with the peanut butter. -Malted Cookie Dough (Malted Ice Cream, Housemade Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Chunks): I didn't like the cookie dough in here- skip! -Avocado (Fresh Avocado, Hint of Lime): Very refreshing and unique, but I don't think I could eat a whole scoop of this. We settled on the Sweet Lavender Mini ($3.50, http://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=acWsQzcUtggQneMjkmb6jg&userid=76vIFZcC7owykCBjMfGVXg). The lavender had a very light flavor, and for once, didn't taste like eating soap to me. It was surprisingly good, and went really well with the coconut milk undertones- recommended! The people working here are super friendly and accommodating (as you can see from all the flavors we sampled), and I would definitely come back if I'm back in Boston. They also have plenty of seats inside if you want to enjoy your ice cream there. Parking in this area can be difficult, but there is some street parking available. read more

Surprise! Fomu's in the South End! Hey! Actually, I had already heard, so spotting it on the corner away from us wasn't a complete shock to me. My friend, however, was surprised. And stoked. We had just been saying if only there were an ice cream or froyo place just about HERE (as we looked around) since otherwise we were about to part ways - me to the right and her left. Yes, we were lazy. But it was hot, and also we didn't have that much time to cure our craving for a little something sweet. Fomu's storefront is not at all wide, but quite deep indeed. But for ice cream, one tends to be willing to trek a bit. For coconut cream based frozen treats... sure, why not. We tried a few samples scooped up for us on popsicle sticks. The flavors I tried were not as coconut evident as in my vague recollections of my visit to the original Allston location many moons ago, which in my opinion was great! Their ice cream is $3.50 for a mini, $4.50 small (1 scoop), $5.95 regular (2 scoops), $7.95 pint, and $6.95/$7.95 for a sundae. Choice of cup or cone (cake or sugar), but an extra buck for a waffle cone. The mini looked way too small - more like dessert for a doll. So I went with the small which I was able to fill with two flavors: Peanut Butter Mud Pie and Banoffee Pie. I guess I got my pie a la mode! The Almond Raspberry Crumble had good flavor, but was too high a crumble to ice cream ratio for me. I prefer my ice creams smooth with smaller bits. There was some seating at this location, as well as a child sized table which seemed to handle adults just as well for those of mixed company. Water was available along the wall by the freezer which housed ice cream cakes (I think he said they were $39.95?) and some prepacked pints and ice cream sandwiches. With summer only just beginning, my evening's companion is sure to be back, dragging her lactose intolerant counterpart along to enjoy a frozen treat some hot day. 3.5 stars read more

Yum! My friends were raving about this place while we were thrifting and so we decided to stop by. I love how you can order 2 different flavors in a mini cup (It is a bit expensive, $4.55 for the tiny cup) but most novelty vegan stores are like that. I bought the seasonal flavors, apple cider donut and pumpkin pie. The apple cider donut had an interesting texture and apparently there are pieces of apple cider donut inside! The pumpkin pie flavor was rich and delicious. Although it is a small size, I thoroughly enjoyed the dessert. We came on Indigenous People's day around 3pm so it was almost empty with only one employee. She was kind and let us have some samples. The interior is neat and modern, and could definitely be Instagram worthy. Great place to try out something different from your regular ice cream shop! read more

I'm a real ice cream fan with a love/hate relationship due to my lactose intolerance, so I was very curious when it came to FoMu. The space is very large for an ice cream shop and had a very chill vibe. I was intially hesitant because I can get really particular about coconut flavored things, but the cookies and cream ice cream. WOW, it was amazing. The texture was a bit different, but I really enjoyed how it was different, if that makes sense. Also, the coconut just adds such a pleasant hint of flavor to the ice cream. Absolutely delicious. Also, I loved how it wasn't as quick to melt as traditional ice cream - an A+ in my book! read more

Omg FoMu is my favorite vegan ice cream location! They have soo many flavors and they all taste delicious! This time I got the F'oreo flavor which is basically cookies&cream and the seasonal blueberry shortbread flavor. I usually don't like fruity flavors in my ice cream but the girl working that day highly recommended it and said it's her favorite. I was surprised of how well the shortbread complimented the blueberry. The blueberry was not overwhelming at all. You can't even tell that their ice cream is vegan! I recommend this to all vegans and non-vegans. I wish I could come here everyday! I gotta try their non-ice cream items too! read more
I loved the layout and modernness of this place, but the ice cream had an interesting taste. I was looking for a more traditional taste. I ordered a brownie Sunday with chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream and hot fudge. It's definitely worth trying because they have other options outside of the ice cream as well. But based on my experience, I feel comfortable giving this a 3/5. read more

FoMu is good, but pricey. This mini serving was $5.30, which seems excessive, but since they offer dairy-free ice cream in a pretty wide range of tasty flavors, I imagine they can afford to upcharge. The texture is a little on the crumbly side, but once it's in your mouth, feels pretty standard as far as ice cream goes. They use a coconut base for almost all the ice creams, which you can definitely taste a little no matter what flavor you get. They have added a lot of flavors since the last time I visited, so there's a decent amount of variety to choose from. read more

Such a nice sweet ending after a lovely dinner. Walked here and enjoyed some cider and dessert. Priced fairly, cute place, super friendly. Gluten free friendly. So excited to get a carrot cake type Whoopie. Wish I could have more often. We don't have one of these in my hood. Was just visiting for work. Definitely two thumbs up. read more

I have been going to FoMu for years, and have always had wonderful experiences there. Even if you aren't vegan or have allergies, if you love ice cream you should definitely give FoMu a try. My boyfriend has a dairy allergy so FoMu is our favorite ice cream spot in the city. We usually go to the South End location, but the Jamaica Plain and Allston locations are just as good but South End has way more seating. The bf and I just went to the South End location for dessert and we were excited to see new seasonal flavors on the menu. Service is always very friendly/polite, and FoMu let's you sample as many flavors as you want and they let you combine flavors. I tried the peanut butter and chocolate cookie but settled on a small cup with the lemon merengue and cotton candy flavors and bf got the chocolate cookie dough and more cookies than cream. We enjoyed everything per usual. FoMu flavors always taste exactly like the flavor they're named after. If you're not too adventurous, I'd definitely recommend the strawberry, it's the best strawberry ice cream I've ever had--vegan or otherwise. I haven't had the best milkshakes there, but the baked goods never disappoint. I love the magic bars and the chocolate chip cookies. I've also had my birthday cake made by them and FYI their ice cream cakes are amazing. read more
Omgggggggggg FoMu is AMAZING! Upon my first spoonful, I was instantly weak in the knees. How is it possible that everything here is dairy free?? It's just sooooo crazy good and creamy that it doesn't make sense. Opt for anything with Almond Milk as the base for the heavenly creaminess that I can't even do justice to describe. We tried the Rocky Road, Cookies and Cream, and Cookie Dough - all were A+ in flavor, sweetness, and texture. My fave was definitely the Rocky Road - it was just so incredibly smooth and rich!! Plus the chunks of cookie, marshmellows, and super generous chopped peanuts were totally a party of crunchy goodness and textures. It was so good that I bought a pint to-go and shamelessly finished it within 2 days. It's both a blessing and a curse that I don't live closer to FoMu. I will 1000000% be back though for more heavenly indulgences!! read more

I was so excited about this place since I'm visiting Boston and I love ice cream. The always unfortunate part about my love for ice cream is that I am lactose intolerant. However this place tastes exactly like ice cream without any weird aftertaste's or sacrificing the creaminess. And it's so so so good! I love the vibe of this place and the flavors are fun! I got mint chocolate chunk which was very refreshing and minty with lots of choco chunks. They also have some interesting unique flavors I didn't try as well as some classic flavors like chocolate and vanilla and cookie dough. I'm definitely coming back to try some of their shakes and cookie sandwiches! LOVE this place!! read more

This is probably the BEST plant based iced cream out there. Not only is everything at FoMu totally vegan, but they also only use REAL ingredients. I can't get over how insanely creamy and rich this stuff is. The strawberry ice cream was NEXT level. This is definitely an obsession. read more

This vegan ice cream is extremely comparable to regular ice cream. I got a banana-graham cracker flavor, not sure what it was, but it drew me in because it was made with almond milk. I figured it wouldn't have that coconut ice cream taste, and it didn't. It was just as creamy as dairy ice cream! I got the small but probably could've been fine with the mini. The prices are a little high, but for a city ice cream shop it's similar to a normal place. It's adorable inside, but of course you can't sit down. My dairy-loving friends raved about it too. Excellent--wish they had them outside of Boston! read more

I tried the blueberry shortbread size small for $5.50 and the almond raspberry crumble (size mini). A regular size is over $6. All the ice creams are made with a coconut base unless the item says otherwise. Their menu options are plant-based and dairy free. They sell Whoopie pies, gummy bears and cakes as well. The interior is long and narrow with some small tables and a few communal tables. There was no outdoor dining option. They allow dogs inside. I've tried many coconut ice creams before but this one was extra delicious, creamy and gelato-like stretchy texture. I loved the short bread and crumble chunks in both ice creams. The blueberry one had large chunks of blueberry jam. The size small was more like a size regular (at other ice cream shops). The interior is modern and minimalist. They have some art and plants. read more
This is a chain ice cream stop that uses coconut milk for its products. This made the ice cream lighter and the flavor more complex. You have the choice of different sizes of cups, but ***you can get as many flavors as you want in any size cup!!!*** You can see how excited I am about this, since other ice cream shops you're only allowed multiple flavors with bigger portion purchases. The ice cream: I tried the following flavors - George Howell cold brew: loved it, strong and refreshing coffee without being overpowering - Mint: The mint was like a punch in the face. Very fresh. I ended up getting these 2 flavors. - Blueberry: On the sweeter side - Lavender: Also sweet and strong, like eating the flower, which apparently isn't my thing. But might be yours! They also have other products such a cakes and other pastries. The service: Since it was my first time here, I tried a few flavors, and the staff graciously accommodated my requests. The space: This particular store was twice as big as expected with the feel of a cafe. It also has a short table for kids complete with toys to occupy them. Nice seating with long as well as small tables. Will accommodate different size groups. Tl;dr: Coconut milk ice cream shop. Definitely worth a try. FoMu has surprisingly delicious ice cream! The shop itself is really hip, and rather spacious. There is a large community table and various other seating; when we came after dinner, there wasn't a lack of space. They also have a cute kids area! To order, you go all the way to the back of the shop, and there's a board with all the flavors instead of the flavors being on display. We got the cold brew coffee flavor, which is a nice coffee flavor with hints of coconut. I really appreciated how it wasn't too sweet. However, I do have to say that since they use coconut milk, the flavor of coconut is definitely present; it might not be a great place for people who don't like coconut flavors. They also have smoothies and our friend really enjoyed his, though they didn't have all the fruits for his smoothies. All in all, a great alternative to milk-based ice cream! It was still rich and creamy, which is something I look for. Great for people who are lactose intolerant as well! read more

They have $2 baked goods on Thursday! From the ice cream to the cookies, everything was delicious here. I tried the maple carrot pecan which had a robust maple flavor, but ultimately settled on the rich and decadent chocolate peppermint cookie. The malted cookie dough chocolate chip cookie sandwich is also off the chain. The shop is filled with light and well heated, so it's a great retreat even on a chilly fall Boston day. read more

In this neighborhood, I stumbled upon so many vegan places and this was one of them! Open later so you can get some snacks between bars. They have pre-made cookie sandwiches, amazingly tasty brownies, and the ice cream was believable between the chocolate chip cookies. The worker was super helpful and sweet and enjoying a walking snack on the way around the neighborhood was a highlight of my weekend, especially since I was craving non-dairy ice cream all week! Plus lots of gluten free things as well. read more
