Yum! The selection is great and I love that I can get cookies, ice cream, hot cocoa...it was all good (& I know because I got it all). I just wish the staff told me they had no whipped cream before I ordered as I would have skipped the hot cocoa because duh--that's just a vehicle for the whipped!
I've admittedly only had FoMu once, and at Boston Calling, so can't comment on the ambience or full menu. The service was great though, and the prices seemed reasonable at least comparatively to other vendors at the festival. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy the ice cream whatsoever. The coconut taste here was too overpowering to really be able to focus on anything else. I think the mint may have been a particularly bad combination with it but am not sure. Would I come back? If I were super hungry and a friend wanted to go, maybe. Intentionally if I had other options? Likely not.
They have such creative flavors to enjoy for those who are seeking milk alternative desserts. The person at the counter was super nice and let me try as many flavors as needed to help me make my decision. The store is really big, good for a group hangout or maybe even a small event. Would come back to try other flavors. I got the PB cookie ice cream, it tastes the least like coconut milk (which I don't mind, but fyi) but I would have also gotten their seasonal chai flavor.
My black raspberry chunk ice cream was fantastic! I was in disbelief that it was it was vegan because it was sooooo creamy and delicious. Their little wooden spoons are such a nice touch as well. The employee scooping out ice cream was so nice as well. Will definitely be coming back for more!

Whoa! I cannot be any happier with our stop here. I've reached the peak of great choices and hospitality. We had some lovely people helping us out, able to find some good seats to bathe ourselves in great Boston ice cream. CHEERS to them !

This is a plant based icecream shop so most of the bases are coconut milk. It's very delicious, creamy, and healthy servings. This was the mini and it was a sweet treat after a meal down the street! You can bring your dogs or other common pets here!
Tasty treats that's very allergen friendly. All plant-based and their mix-ins are also gluten free. Quite enjoyed my split scoop of Peanut Butter Chocolate Cookie and Fresh Strawberry. Not overly sweet and I rather enjoyed the meltier texture (but that's probably just me). They got really fun flavors, would really have liked to try the Salted Oatmeal Cookie but they don't do that anymore. Plenty of seats inside, very clean and modern design.
There's not a places that have vegan icecream. Especially a place that is fully vegan! It's a heaven for anyone trying be vegan and struggling to cut out icecream. There's a wide variety of flavors and mix ins which makes the decision process extremely hard. We ended up getting the mint chocolate chip icecream. even for the smallest size, they give you a heaping amount. This icecream doesn't taste too coconutty as do many other vegan ice creams. The mint flavor isn't artificial and has a fresh after taste.

OBSESSED!! i love that every single thing here is plant based so i could enjoy any treat on the menu!! the ambiance inside is nice inside and also it's next to a cute street you can sit on stairs if you want. so many different options on the menu (frappe, smoothies, brownies, ice cream, ice cream sandwiches, etc..) and everything is so so delicious! out of the 6 of us, i was the only vegan but everyone was obsessed!! took off a star because it's so expensive, $6 for a small. i understand it costs more to produce, but the price makes it less accessible to people looking for dairy free ice cream and treats. but overall we love fomu and will def be coming back for those pints to take home:) read more

I admit, I was skeptical. Was FoMu merely another morsel of a Vegan agenda? A part of the Trendy Healthier Foods agenda? After all, the ice cream I grew up eating usually came from the overly suckled teat of a cow (see general concerns about the contemporary dairy industry). I stand corrected. After my aunt told me at least eighty-six times over the course of two weeks that I HAVE TO GO TO FOMU when I'm in Boston, and others recommended the place, I decided that a visit would be obligatory. I strolled into FoMu South End on a sunny, warm day. Dry, but an excellent time for ice cream. But (allow me to briefly push my agenda) as I've said and will say again: ~~~IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE HOT TO EAT ICE CREAM.~~~ Back to it: I strolled into the chilled, nicely decorated FoMu in the South End, sampled several flavors, and ultimately settled on the avocado ice cream. If you think avocado can only be savory, you need to reevaluate your beliefs. This was some thick avocado goodness. Cold and creamy, the ice cream yielded that sweet, sweet sensation as it melted and oozed down my gullet, into my entrails. TLDR; the ice cream was great. As creamy, if not CREAMIER, as cow milk ice cream. And much more sustainable! Note that I deducted a single (1) star for the prices. Although unsurprising, FoMu is expensive. Expect to spend over $5 for an ice cream. Don't go to FoMu expecting some sort of sweet watery sludge. Although there isn't a single drop of animal milk, the ice cream here rivals that of Stewart's Shops in upstate New York. I would recommend, just save up the funds first. read more

Fomu is a dream come true ice cream parlor for lactose intolerant consumers such as myself. The ice cream are not located in clear sight to see what each flavor looks like; instead, they are located to the back wall behind the counter. However, the staff is willing to make the walk back there with sample spoons in hand if you'd like to try a couple flavors before ordering. I love that they are environmentally friendly and use compostable material for the bowls, spoons, napkins, etc. I was hoping to get lavender ice cream after seeing it in photos. However, the ice cream flavors are seasonal and/or rotate, and that flavor was not available. Thus, I ordered a brownie with cookies & cream ice cream, drizzled with hot fudge and caramel, and topped off with spiced nuts. The brownie appeared to be dark chocolate, and was hard since it had been sitting out behind the counter. It would've been great if they could store it better or warm it up before serving. The cookies & cream ice cream was divine. It was creamy and spoon-licking delightful. It could fool a dairy aficionado into believing that it was made using milk; NOPE, it's all dairy-free. The hot fudge and caramel enhanced the taste of the ice cream and brownie. The spiced nuts added a desired crunch. With all of it together, it was a good level of sweetness and texture. read more

Great little vegan ice cream shop! I got the cookie dō sundae & my boyfriend got a regular scoop of vanilla bean & cookies and cream ice cream. The cookie dough scoop in the sundae was a splendid addition & I loved the slightly nutty kick it had. I am dairy-free & thoroughly enjoyed it, however I would beware if you are not vegan as it does not taste like dairy ice cream. There is a slight coconut (?) taste to everything we tried but I love coconut so it was no issue. Will definitely be back! read more

I wouldn't call myself an ice cream guy, my tastings are far and few between. But I've bookmarked all the popular ice cream stops in the city and I promise if I can pick up my "one a year" pace, I'll eventually try them all. On this rare occasion, I found myself at Fomu. A vast space not only for the south end, but for an ice cream shop in general. The menu features basics(that's where I stay) and then your wacky, I mean creative flavors. The Cool thing about fomu is the ice cream is made from scratch with real, plant-based ingredients. How does this end up being the end product? I have no idea. All I know is that the strawberry is freaking delicious. Like the best I've ever had delicious. My sample size is minimal at best, but I think I just might have found my favorite ice cream shop! Came here on a Friday night with one of my class mates not realizing it was vegan. The vibe is great, love the atmosphere. A very long, open space. Wish there was a more accessible layout for seating. The line up area is also a mess, super chaotic and hard to speak to staff. Once they serve you, you still have to wait to pay and the ice cream melts so quickly that it's half goop by the time you do pay. The staff were friendly enough, but when I asked if there was water the employee rolled his eyes at me. The ice cream itself was not my favourite. It's very sticky and dry, afterwards I realize that it's because it's vegan. The taste of my cookies and cream was not what I expected. I'll probably try to go back eventually and try another flavour and maybe redeem it? read more
This is a great alternative to a dairy ice cream shop. My friend and I didn't even realize it wasn't dairy ice cream at first. They also have gluten free options which was great. Only down side was that they double charged me for my friends order, which couldn't be remedied on the spot and I'm hoping I'll receive the additional charge back to my card. Other than the confusion while being checked out, the ice cream was good! read more

Want vegan ice cream that tastes like REAL ice cream? FoMu is the spot! Whether you're dairy free or not dairy free, you will leave satisfied. FoMu's ice cream is impressive - they are all made with a coconut base, yet they taste very close to regular ice cream. The ice cream consistency is stretchy (indicative of small ice crystals!), smooth, and dreamy creamy. You can tell FoMu tries to use high quality ingredients and they really care about the flavors and textures of their products. Also, the mini cup size is plenty, so you're getting your money's worth! The only thing I'd note was their slow service the day I went. There were people packaging ice cream and only one scooper, so I waited awhile before I was able to get my ice cream :( Here are the flavors I tried and what I thought: PEANUT BUTTER CHOCOLATE COOKIE - 5 STARS After my sample of this flavor, I knew I was ready to commit to a cup. The base is a peanut butter flavored ice cream, which is rich and creamy, but not heavy. You can taste a hint of coconut flavor, though it is barely detectable. I absolutely LOVED the chocolate cookie crumbles mixed in the ice cream - they weren't soggy at all, and the crumbles added texture and a delicious chocolate flavor. This flavor tasted like peanut butter chocolate cups which is always a plus :) STRAWBERRY RHUBARB PIE - 4.5 STARS Though I didn't get a full size, I had a few samples of these hehe! The strawberry flavor tastes super natural and fresh, and there was a hint of rhubarb that made this very unique. I absolutely loved the pie mix-in, which made me feel like I was taking a bite of pie! RASPBERRY CRUMBLE - 4 STARS Raspberry crumble was very similar to the strawberry rhubarb pie in that they both had pie mix-ins. The raspberry base also tasted extremely fresh, high quality, and refreshing!!! Though I tasted the coconut flavor in the ice cream, it wasn't too detectable. This is by far the best non-dairy ice cream I've ever had. The coconut milk makes it a little thicker than how I typically like my ice cream, but it's still creamy and delicious. Between the matcha white chocolate chip flavor and the cotton candy flavor we got, the matcha wins. It literally tasted just like dairy matcha ice cream, but without the stomachache. The coconut milk was a little more prominent in the cotton candy, but overall still a yummy flavor (maybe a little sweet near the end of my scoop). The interior is very spacious with lots of seating. I think their flavors rotate every so often, I'm excited to come back to see what's new! ((: read more
