My friend and I were on the hunt for a good ice cream spot that gave the "farm fresh ice cream" vibe and we came across Dairy Freeze during our search. The ice cream itself was sooo good. I got my usual: soft serve twist with rainbow sprinkles in a waffle cone. The cone was so fresh and flavorful, the rainbow sprinkles also tested fresh (I love when the sprinkles have their own distinct taste. That's how you know they're fresh), and the soft serve was cold and creamy. The dream. My friend got the cookie dough hard ice cream in a waffle cone and she really liked it too. The ordering/waiting lines were wild. Idk if it was an off-night when we went, but there were at least 15 people standing around waiting for their ice cream while we were in line ordering. Then it came our time to wait and it took 12 minutes just to get these 2 cones out. The kitchen was closed by the time we were there too, so no one was waiting on food. This was my dad's go-to ice cream place growing up, so we had to visit when we were in the area. My dad says they are known for their soft serve ice cream, but I went with their hard serve cookie dough. The hard serve ice cream is from Richardson's. If I am ever back in the area, I definitely would get the soft serve staple. Service was friendly and fast. Nice local place serving up ice cream, sandwiches and fried seafood. This is not a place where you go inside, instead you order at the window with a cashier and someone else prepares your ice cream, lunch or dinner order. They offer both soft serve and hard serve ice cream as well as sandwiches, burgers and a couple of dinners and some appetizers. I usually get either a soft serve ice cream sundae or just a plain dish of vanilla soft serve ice cream when I come here. There is some limited parking here but if you can't find a space to park in there are plenty of side streets nearby where there is free parking as well. It is a very popular place in the Summer months but the line for service always moves quickly and you'll be enjoying your ice cream in no time at all. They close down for the season around the end of October but they are always back in the Spring for the warmer weather months. I have enjoyed many delicious ice creams here. read more

If we ignore for a second how environmentally problematic styrofoam is, it truly is a miracle of science. Plus I miss the styrofoam Dunkin' cups. There's just one thing: when hard (ie not soft-serve) ice cream in a styrofoam citadel is attacked by a spoon, holes can easily form in its defenses. Really, a hole forming in the base of my cup is the only complaint I have, and even that may be, in part, due to how enthusiastically I devour ice cream! I ordered a kiddie sized Coffee Oreo. This stuff was great! The coffee notes were pronounced and noticeable, and the Oreo was in perfect amount and worked flawlessly with everything. The portion size was generous, especially for something "kiddie" sized, and the price of ~$5 seems very reasonable. The service works pretty efficiently. You order with the cashier, and another person scoops and tops your ice cream. It doesn't seem quite as lickety-split as Frozen Freddie's, but as someone not in the food service industry, I realize there may be reasons for this beyond my knowledge. Thus, Dairy Freeze seems to be a local cultural establishment; an iteration of the quintessential ice cream shop that kids, teens, and adults alike enjoy on summer days. While Freddie's is closer to me, I can absolutely see myself frequenting Dairy Freeze if it were the one closer to me. read more

Every summer, I try to make it a point to at least visit Dairy Freeze once. I used to come here all the time as a kid and my order was always a razzle (soft serve ice cream with your choice of flavor + choice of candy mixed in). It hits every time ! I usually get coffee and chocolate soft serve with m&ms. They offer both soft serve & hard serve ice creams. Sometimes I will get a sundae (usually strawberry), which is choice of hard serve ice cream with choice of sauce/fruit & whipped cream, topped with a maraschino cherry. They get pretty busy, especially at night but their lines most fast. Relatively quick service and yummy ice cream. I've been coming here for years and I'm so excited that it has finally reopened for the season!! This place is a Quincy staple and it is so dangerously good. I can't count how many times I've ate ice cream from here but it's always so tasty and they always have great portions and generous toppings. I'll start off by saying that my first experience here 2-3 years ago was terrible and I think it's because of some major miscommunication. First let me say that they are very generous when it comes to scoops. That is one of the main things that catches my eye. Came here to try since I moved down the street from it. The outside doesn't really catch the eye but you can't judge a place by its appearance. They serve fried seafood and regular beach food. Not sure if I would try it though (LOL). They serve basic flavors hard and soft swerve so it's nothing out of the ordinary. I got green monster which is mint cookies and cream. The flavor was really good but it wasn't as creamy. Still good for the price I paid though. They give out huge scoops compared to other places for a low price so you can't really complain. It gets pretty crowded which can be expected for any decent ice cream place. But don't be discouraged. The workers are fast and while you will have to wait, it won't be as bad as you expect. what really makes it stand out to me is the fact that you can take your treat back to your car and people watch as you enjoy a cool summer evening. Unfortunately it also makes it easier to finish your ice cream and just grab another one because although you were in your car for 15 minute you never really went anywhere :( but I guess that's a matter of self control.
