I am going to go ahead and declare two things: 1. If it were not for Frozen Freddies, I would be at least 5-10 pounds lighter. 2. If it were not for Frozen Freddies, summers would be at least 5-10x less enjoyable. This is a neighborhood joint that feels like it's been around longer than I have, and I hope it outlives me. The walls are almost completely covered with photographs and memorabilia. Freddy does his thing phenomenally well! There is a thorough selection of flavors with something for everyone. The quality of the ice cream is terrific, and the value is a slam dunk. A kiddie size with a crunch coat comes out to $3.20 after taxes, and despite being "kiddie" the size is generous! I was in HSQ's Lizzy's today, and a comparable size is almost twice the cost. Finally, there is the service. The folks working here are always kind, friendly, and keep the line moving quickly. Further, I appreciate that the way the cups are loaded, you don't get half the ice cream escaping and melting all over your hands, car, asphalt, or what have you. With the space they've cemented in my heart, I hope they are around for years to come. Summers are not complete without at least weekly visits to Frozen Freddies, at least. read more

This little hole in the wall had so much character. And a wiiide wide variety of ice cream, waffle cones, dipped waffle cone, toppings. I went simple and got a twist soft serve on a chocolate dipped waffle cone. But ice cream is good anywhere. Going inside this store just made you feel good. It had a fun house mirror, and was painted fun colors, it was selling cute little nostalgic toys. It had local news articles on the wall and photo collages, like many local shops do. The outside had a scooby doo mystery machine painted on it and a spongebob. =) There is not much seating inside, but the service is fast and there are a few benches outside too. There is a small lot to park in out back, but also plenty of street parking. An easy and pleasant way to appease your sweet tooth. read more

This place has always been one of my childhood favorites. Their ice cream quality has not changed at all. So creamy, fresh and tasty. The ice cream flavors, toppings, and combos you can make are incredible! I got the soft serve chocolate and vanilla with chocolate chunks and it was so rich and creamy. A classic order for me, never disappoints! We also got the purple cow which was a creamier version of black raspberry without any fruit chunks in it. A very smooth and creamy consistency. So tasty. I first heard about this place from my boyfriend because he lives in Quincy and it has been a favorite of his. One very hot afternoon. He suggested we take a walk since it's just five minutes away from our apartment to get some ice cream to cool us down. I was pleasantly surprised to see that this was a very small family operated shop, very friendly staff and huge variety of selections of ice cream. The ambience was indicative of a diner, had old photos of previous victims of the huge ice cream selection. I ordered the banana split and became a glutton. I even took some home. Decided to give this spot a try after hearing they had Italian ice! We got a large Italian ice and a small Oreo brownie sundae. They had limited flavors for their Italian ice and looked like they just scrapped up the remainder of the tub instead of opening a new one. It also lacked flavor. The brownie sundae was a huge disappointment as we were informed by the young cashier the brownie was homemade, it was not. The brownie was hard and flavorless. The only good/okay thing about our experience was their IceCream. I got the Oreo IceCream with my brownie sundae and it was good but I've had better. Keep in mind this is a cash only ice cream spot. Very cute shop! Brought my younger sisters here after school. Place was busy with school kids. Tons of dessert options. Prices were very reasonable; a large flurry ice cream was $5. Ice cream was HUGE. More then enough for two people. They also sell snacks. Chocolate covered gummy bears in a small ketchup like cup with a lid was $1. As an adult I loved them!!! Im only giving this place three stars because the Ice cream to me was lacking in flavor. I had an Oreo flurry which is vanilla soft serve with chucks of Oreos mixed in, all I could taste was the cookie... the ice cream was thin and didn't have any flavor. Good ice cream. Most flavors are Bliss ice cream, which is the best for hard ice cream. The owner is super nice and she told us which flavors are Gifford's ice cream. It's only a couple and she is right. They are better flavors from Gifford's. The rage about the jimmies is justified. She actually buys a better quality product. She's not afraid to spend more money. And got some chocolate jimmies (sprinkles) on top..they are very different than ones you normally get, more thinner which i liked alot. I definitely plan to return.. I have yet to try their frozen freddies, but every time I come here, all I want is a vanilla and chocolate twist soft serve cone.
