We wanted to try out a new well-rated place in the nabe; the idea of J fluffy pancakes as we haven't been able to travel to Japan as we'd have liked this year seemed like a plan. It's a bit further from us than we'd have liked but the benefit is yes the exercise. The interior feels really big, which as another reviewer pointed out is unusual in the cramped E. Village. I loved my avocado and egg crowaffle: It was the perfect amt of sweetness and crunch with the protein heft. The avocado is cut up in little pieces so that it doesn't slide around when you bite into it which I've I'll always hated about some versions of avocado toast. Our dishes came with tater tots and a salad with balsamic dressing: I appreciated that the chipotle mayo for the tots came in a ceramic container and not the ubiquitous clear or black plastic to-go tub. One thing I woulda appreciated more was if the alcoholic drinks were made clearer in the menu: I only found out they had any by reading a review here. I got the fluffy pancakes with cream and fruit and there is I think some powdered sugar on the plate. Their fluffiness of the pancake comes from being made with egg whites whipped. They also have like soufflé sandwiches like eggs and bacon I think I saw, Chocolate something which I was told to stay away from due to my allergies. I also tried the ham & cheese croissant which was a little salty but tasty. Bonus points for the fact that they serve alcoholic drinks too. The space is cute, the staff was friendly, and everything came out pretty quickly. Great spot for a casual brunch date or a solo treat-yourself moment. My only issue was the mandatory tipping system. When you go to pay, the screen makes you choose a tip before you can even complete your purchase. You order and pay before you sit down. Tipping is a courtesy, not a requirement. I believe in tipping for good service, but it should never be forced. What made this even more frustrating was that I was asked to tip before I even received my food. At that point, I didn't know if the service would be good, if my order would be right, or how I'd be treated. The store decor is awesome though - literally reflects a soufflé pancake because of its yellow color and wavy decor. I am so glad that we didn't have to schedule our day around our brunch meal in such a fashion at Fluffy Fluffy. Given its soft opening status, there were still a couple empty tables when we arrived on a weekend morning. Unlike some other eateries in the East Village, Fluffy Fluffy is bright and spacious, perfect for bringing your little ones. We ended up ordering three entrees to share, the Eggs Benedict on mini soufflé pancakes instead of biscuits, the classic, and the hazelnut. The Eggs Benedict dish also came with these perfectly crispy tater tots and some green salad while the pancake dishes were topped with some berries. The pancakes were airy and fluffy as expected; I could easily enjoy five of them without feeling any guilt. The chocolate sauce for the hazelnut pancakes was at the right level of sweetness. We also got some drinks with our meals. The matcha latte and blueberry latte were delicious while the strawberry latte and the strawberry espresso were just okay. The service overall was nice and friendly. If you plan to visit, please don't come when you are starving. These pancakes can take up to 20 minutes to prepare. For the drinks, we ordered the mango yakult and the mango black tea. Both are very sweet, lots of ice, nothing special. I didn't taste the yakult taste in our drinks.
