It was so flaky and so rich. I found myself peeling off layer after layer of the bread before even getting to the filling. The pastrami and mustard inside were great, but honestly... I just wanted the croissant. That said, it was a bit pricey. I would absolutely love if they sold plain croissants regularly because the pastry alone is worth the trip. I live nearby so I had been wanting to go to this place for a while as I had heard a lot about it. I went on Saturday to see what they had. Parking was really easy as there is a lot in the front and it was not busy. I got two pastries - a Cherry Bakewell Tart and an Almond Blueberry Financier. It is fairly small and the people there were kind. The pastries were delicious. The shortcrust base of the Cherry Bakewell was perfectly crumbly and the cherry jam was just the right amount of tartness. The Financier was equally tasty as the blueberries also had a similar sweet and mildly tart taste that balanced the buttery almond cake. Both pastries go great with coffee or tea. I will definitely be adding this bakery to my Heights rotation. I look forward to tasting more of their items and hopefully trying some of their weekend specials! read more

The Veruca salt cake is totally worth $61.50 (for 8" as of March 2024). It's described as "devil's food cake paired with salted caramel buttercream, pretzel crunch and Valrhona Caramelia crunchy pearls". The cake was well balanced, not too sweet, and had really great texture. This is a cake that I definitely cannot make myself at home at my current skill level. It was too perfect! I really appreciated the neat hand writing. You are allowed three words... generally it's "Happy Birthday (Name)". The baker wrote it much neater than I can do with a pencil or pen. Well done! It's controversial, but I wasn't a huge fan of an automatic gratuity of 15 percent and being asked twice to tip online, especially before receiving the cake or experiencing the service. It can be manually adjusted whatever value you prefer, but I rather the employee's wages be fairly baked into the price - just personal preference. We bought some day-old cookies for a discounted price. No regrets there! We enjoyed every bit of it! No vegan options (currently) for those who live that life style - sorry! After receiving our order, I went to read one of the cookbooks on their shelf when the owner came out and told me I couldn't read any of the books because someone before me spilled on one her books and ruined it for me. Baked goods from the heart! My wife and I visited Fluff Bake Bar after watching Chris Shepherd's Eat Like a Local feature at their relatively new location in the Heights. We drove all the way from Pearland on a Sunday with the hopes of trying her featured apple cider doughnuts. We arrived 30 minutes prior to the 12pm opening and ended up being the first four people allowed in the bar with the line of people growing larger by the minute. I must admit we were a bit intimidated as we felt we needed to be decisive and quick with our choices, not wanting to overstay our welcome or appear as amateurs. But one thing that was noted immediately was the quaint, heartfelt vibes going on inside the bar. The smells were unbelievable, the sights of the cookies, doughnuts behind the glass were like we just stepped into a working kitchen, which it was of course. We made our selections of four apple cider doughnuts and a dozen of the ginger molasses cookies...we wanted more but felt nervous about being too glutenous on our first visit. We even had Chef Rebecca helping us out with our selections, what a treat in itself! Later that day and back in the comfort of our own home, we finally sat down to try our choices. First, the Apple Cider doughnuts were light yet full of flavor, with what appeared to be a layer of apple cider at the bottom...WOW! They were delicious. THEN we each shared one of the Ginger Molasses cookies...OMG, my wife and I were taken aback with the softness and flavor of this cookie. My wife commented on the fact that I said "Oh My" at least a dozen times and even teared up as I finished my last bite. I am now 56 and this cookie took me right back to my grandmother's kitchen in upstate New York where she made dozen after dozen of her famous ginger molasses cookies with sprinkled sugar on top. Hats off to you Rebecca and your team at Fluff Bake Bar; not only are your baked goods delicious but they are truly nostalgic...I do believe we will be frequent visitors...who cares about the drive! Fluff is a local Heights bakery that offers lots of sweets and also savory specialty items on the weekend. It's kind of hidden away from the main street but they do have a parking lot (which is a plus for anything located in the Heights area). I went there to visit my friend Eunice who works there and she had great recommendations of course. I personally like "normal" basic flavors so I got the chocolate chip ($2.50) - trust me there's plenty of weird flavors like their couch potato. There was an older lady there as well who didn't really engage with us. We got several cookies to try. We got the double chocolate peanut butter cookie, ginger molasses, oatmeal, gooey butter cookie, cheezit chocolate chip, couch potato & a whoopie pie & another cookie that reminded us of nutter butters. The cheezit and couch potato were our least favorites. We tried them cause it was weird, but I wouldn't recommend. Our favorites were oatmeal, double chocolate peanut butter & ginger molasses.
