Conveniently right around the corner from our hotel. We were sat outside where we could watch the traffic go by and relax after a long day. We had heard that lasagna in Rome is a good thing so we ordered lasagna and house red wine, This was the best lasagna we had on the entire trip and possibly ever! Not kidding. It was light and smooth without feeling heavy and great flavor. The wine was basic but good. They also offer a big variety of sweets and desserts if you have room for it. We stopped the following day for a mid-day coffee and sweet fix. If you're in the vicinity, stop in and enjoy. You won't be disappointed.

Pasta with tomato onion bacon. Thickest noodle I've ever eaten. I'd give 3 star

Some of the other reviews are super skewed because of bad service. Food 3 star - I had tomato, onion, bacon pasta which was mediocre. Kinda salty and very simple taste. It was made with the thickest noodle I've ever had in my pasta life. Not the most impressive first pasta experience in Italy. Price was reasonable with pasta 8.50 and water 2.00 Service 2 star - not the most attentive or welcoming. The guy who served me was at his mid 40s to 50s. He acted like he did not give much shit and hate his life for serving to kid half his age. However, he fulfilled his job so I'm giving him 2 instead of 1. Environment 4 star - nice outdoor setting, pastry shop in the entrance, and nice restaurant setting inside. tl;dr: service crap, food and enviornment are better. Wouldn't come back unless I have to.

Grigliata mista di carne cot potate
(Mixed grilled meat with potatoes)

It's the tiny restaurant that tries to be fancy but fails. When you walk into the establishment you are met with a gelateria and pastry bakery. You turn right and take a little path to the restaurant proper. The restaurant is pretty small as it only holds 40 people with the tables pretty damn close together. Grigliata mista di carne cot patate (mixed grilled meat with potatoes). I didn't know what I was getting into by ordering this meat because the description is so generic. What I ended up with is a steak, a pork, and a chicken breast. The steak was still remarkable tender for being cooked to medium well (they didn't ask me how I wanted it cooked and I don't know if that's a normal thing around here). Unfortunately the steak was too fatty for my liking. The pork was a little too dry. And the chicken was nice and juicy. The flavor through the whole meal was fairly bland. Trofie alle 3 p (pasta with pesto sauce, tomatoes, and parmesan cheese). Well the wife was super disappointed with this meal. It tasted like it was poured out of a old can... you know that old metallic taste. Blah. (Cream pudding with a wild berry sauce). Once again something that tastes like it came out of a can. Again blah.

Looks can be deceiving. Spaghetti Carbonara.

Move along, Take a walk to the other side of the termini and go to Imperivm (ORDER ANY PASTA OR PIZZA DISH, ABSOLUTELY TO DIE FOR!) Anywhoo, they dont have still water so you pay $3.50 euro for bottled, I know typically you pay an extra charge for bread, here it's $2.50 euro, but the bread the gave tasted like it was sliced yesterday and left out the past two days.. I ordered the Carbonara, tasted like alfredo..no egg or crispy bacon, just fatty ham bits. It was essentially edible. My husband ordered a dish with red sauce, clams, mussels and shrimp. Literally came with one shrimp and the clams scared him, very very fishy in taste-crossing fingers no sickness will come from eating it. Also ordered a salad prior to our main meal but of course came out alltogether. Happily we didnt order the pizza like we wanted due to the soggy mess a couple next to us ended up having with there pomodoro pie. Service was good but unfortunately we wont be coming back. Side note, floors needed a good mopping and the ceiling needs a new paint job showing an obvious leak.

Great looking entry with dessert bar and nicely arranged items. However the restaurant seating area looks like it was part of a different building... it had a completely different decor and look from the entrance. The staff was disinterested and often acted annoyed that there were customers in the restaurant. They often carried on conversations with each other while "attending" to customers. The prices overall are reasonable, except for the desserts, they were over priced for the quality. That being said, the rest of the food was great and that I end up going here twice during my stay in Rome.

Lasagna

The food is 4 stars but I knocked down a star for both service and value. I had the lasagna which was one of the best lasagnas I've had in awhile but my friend got the cannelloni and the portion size was incredibly small. Unless you're wanting to go through the "proper" number of courses in Italy, I wouldn't go here. These dishes we got were around 8.50€ and that's on the cheap end. This is definitely not a cafe; it's a restaurant. Our waiter was a little slow on the check and didn't seem to like us much.

Tortellini at Florian's Cafe

I figure this place has received some undue reviews. Maybe I'm just the exception but I thought the service was great, the price was fair, I didn't wait incredibly long not to mention the food was good too! I had the tortellini and it absolutely lived up to my expectation. Peas, mushrooms and bacon in a cream sauce, it was fantastic.

spaghetti alla carbonara. DElicious! (don't ask why it looks look rigatoni. i assure you we ordered spaghetti. this is what we got.)

Yes service was not the best but we decided not to expect great service in italy, or anywhere in europe for that matter.

Our hotel manager had suggested another restaurant, but I was apprehensive to try, but did later, more on that restaurant review in it's own post. I rather did what I should have done throughout the trip to, which is to search google for local reviews. This tactic I found to be much better than to trust American reviews for restaurants to visit from Youtube or even here, just because the American touristy taste tends to favor bland or Olive Garden style pseudo Italian. The real Italian taste is much different and something one needs to develop. I was familiar with European Italian food, as I had said before in other reviews that Mexico has better Italian food outside of Italy. Additionally, the good restaurants here in Italy do not open before 7 PM. If it does or if someone that looks foreign to Italy is outside trying to lure you in, it's a tourist restaurant with iffy flavor. At this restaurant my husband had the Lobster pasta and I had the spinach/ricotta ravioli, and we both were beyond satisfied. We also had the artichoke as an appetizer, and trusted the waiter with his suggestion for a bottle of wine. He must have been some genius because the wine went well with our meal. The ambience was cozy and very family oriented, however, the rain outside made it romantic for us. Another key point for this restaurant and it traditional flare was that they brought out the olive oil and red vinegar for our salad and of course olive oil for our wonderful home-made bread. I'm so glad we chose this place for those of us Americans who understand culinary cuisine.

Great first meal in Rome!…read more I loved my artichoke pasta dish with bacon, it was a daily special. The amaretto dessert was delicious! Carbonara was super al dente. Seafood risotto was fresh. Grilled radicchio was like stir fried. Dinner for 3 for 77 euros, impressively busy for a Tuesday night. Friendly staff, easy for English speakers. :)

Super pizza place with a lot of other great stuff on the menu…read more I looked with envy at the other tables who were enjoying spectacular plates of spaghetti with mussels. * * * That said, my pizza was a grand slam home run. Many of their pizzas are quite elaborate With all sorts of exotic ingredients. I went super simple. Gorgonzola. Mozzarella. That's it. Just enough Mozzarella to cut the Gorgonzola and make for a good melt. * * * If you have never had a gorgonzola pizza, you have never lived. Just sayin'. * * * P.S. My lovely wife got a Norwegian salmon pizza. The Norwegian salmon was stacked up high on her pizza As if she was in the World Series of Poker and she was a big winner. I have never seen so much salmon on one plate. After our meal, I made a discreet phone call to the Norwegian embassy in Rome asking them if they still had any salmon left. The woman at the embassy assured me the Norwegian salmon supply was fine. That surprises me given all the salmon that was on my wife's pizza.

However, they had apparently started having dining "outside" which consisted of a few tables-for-two on the sidewalk. My brilliant wife came of with the idea of asking if we could just take two of those tables next to each other so she dined with one daughter and I the other. We probably looked a little funny as we got up to share plates between the table but hey, we were seated in 5 minutes. Car traffic wasn't too bad so that wasn't a distraction though it was amusing seeing delivery bikes coming and going sometimes even returning constantly to the restaurant. Clearly a very popular place. I have to hand it to our waiter, he did a fantastic job serving not just the outside but his inside assignments as well. Guy got his steps in for sure and yet he smiled and was kind through the evening. Not a sign of stress at all. Love that. Food-YUMMY! Since we were on separate tables I didn't my normal "Wait let me take a picture first!" moments lol. We got the Fried Mix to start off with which. I personally ordered a pasta carbonara and the daughter I was sitting with got a margherita pizza. My wife ordered the chicken which was thinly cut breaded chicken slices. I ordered a red (Montepulciano d'Abruzzo) to go along with my meal. Don't have all the foodie pictures because of our split tables but trust me it was all fantastic.
